United Ionian City States (NPC)

I was recently told by Cantignia that there is no Greek NPC state in this region. My nation is supposed to have stated as an ancient Greek colony so I decided to create the United Ionian City States to serve as this region's Greek NPC.

The United Ionian City States or UICS is a loose confederacy made up of multiple Ionian City States. The nation's capital is Algolis (after which the Valkanian City of Algolis is named). the nation is made up of thirteen city states (Attica, Orbetronia, Lacedemonia, Nicaea, Old Alexandria, Pyrhus, Constantinium, Old Ionia, The Algolian Isles, Arcadia, Old Corinthus, Old Kalamis and Hyperia). The Eastern States (Nicaea, Constantinium, Old Kalamis and Hyperia) follow Orthodox Christianity as their faith while the Western States (Attica, Orbetronia, Lacedemonia, Old Alexandria, Pyrhus, Old Ionia and The Algolian Isles, Arcadia and Old Corinthus) follow the faith of the Olympian Gods (aka the Greco-Roman Pantheon). The Algolian Isles are an exception because even though about 88% of their population belongs to the Greco-Roman Pantheon the remaining 12% is Catholic Christian. While this used to cause problems between the Ionians the gap between the two has long been bridged after several successful defensive wars against other nations have brought them together.

Of the Ionian City States the most important ones are: The republic of Attica (the birthplace of Democracy and many great universities), the Algolian Isles (the birthplace of many great scientists and explorers), The Empire of Old Alexandria (the imperialistic nation of Alexander the First), The Oligarchy of Lacedemonia (The world's only known stratocracy), The Union of Old Ionia (the original birthplace of all Ionians centuries ago and the birthplace of many great advancements in naval technology and world trade), The Empire of Constantinium (the birthplace of orthodox Christianity and the City State where the Official HQ of the Orthodox Church including the Ecumenical Patriarchate are located) and finally the United States of the Algolian Isles (the capital and birthplace of modern diplomacy).

The UICS is a great nation in both population and size and has an equivalent army and economy. Valkany, being an ancient Ionian Colony with heavy Ionian elements in her culture and even a great population of Greco-Roman pantheon followers, has been granted secondary membership to the UICS. This Secondary membership however is only ceremonial as it leaves Valkany with no actual power in a state where the idea of a centralized government cooperating with greatly autonomous local governments is considered normal and even productive.

are you saying that your nation is primarily of Greek culture? Because then you really shouldn't be in Scania (The far north, home of the nordic people).

Actually she begun as a mix of Nordic and Ancient Greek elements after the Greeks established a colony in south Valkany. Since, however, the Greeks where a minority no matter how much the tried to Hellenize the nation Valkany's northern European elements still prevailed simply because of the small population of Greeks and the migrations of Nordic, Slavic and Germanic tribes into Valkany. Since the imperial family and a large part of the royalty and population in three of Valkany's major cities is of Greek origin Valkanian culture shows strong Greek elements when compared to other local cultures but is still, undoubtedly Scanian at heart. Greek elements can also be observed in the appearance of the population with a large presence of Caucasian persons as opposed to other Nordic countries where persons Nordic characteristics are the primary population group. In short Valakny is two thirds Northern European and one third Ancient Greek cause I pretty much wanted it to be exactly that; a Greek colony in the far north of Europe which over time adopted a myriad of local elements while combining them with her own and turned into something unique. Actually I was told that there has to be some process before creating an NPC nation so I guess the UICS are dead for now.
