Until I see a clear-cut problem with postcounts being abused spam-wise, I don't see a problem with them whatsoever. Besides -- vBulletin software allows us to deduct your postcount and far more easily delete your posts... and spam's still a warnable offense. 8)

Plus I remember from an old v-bulletin site I was on, that they were able to have certain forums that did not add to the post count. Nutty.land seems prime for this treatment IMO.

I would oppose customised user ranks, as I see them as an unnecessary evil which lead to a general feeling of laissez-faire, laissez-passer, eventually hurting forum discipline. I am not against visible post count, though. As Tom rightfully states, even when it was hid, there were spam problems. I believe that spam's inner causes are much greater than the simple public display of each user's post count.
