From the Desk of the Lord Warden of West March
Most Secret - Eyes Only
TO: HIRH The Queen-Empress and HRH The Crimson Queen
FROM: His Grace The Lord Warden of West March
YOUR Majesties as has no doubt been brought to your attention the tumult beyond the Marches southern border has caused much upset in Occidentia, and while I would not normally trouble your persons with the minor squabbles among foreigners, I have come to the conclusion in light of recent developments that the crisis is entering a terminal phase. Most troublingly the armed intervention of the so-called "Free Occidentia" has escalated this conflict from a purely local matter to one with larger implications for the balance of power in Occidentia; my councillors are understandably much alarmed that such a populous republic is flexing it's military muscles in the vicinity of the March. I surely do not need to tell you how unfortunate it would be if they were to establish a permanent garrison on the Marches southern border.
These are the concerns which have compelled to make these three requests of you and your governments;
FIRSTLY as I am sure there is consensus among our councillors and ministers "Free Occidentia" must be made to withdraw completely from Wasatch at the soonest possible time. To this end I believe a resolute & united diplomatic response from the empire is the prudent first step: we must make clear to these meddlesome republicans that such aggressive movements along the empires periphery will not be tolerated.
SECONDLY and though as a Marcher I must confess it wounds my pride to ask this of your persons, I humbly request a contingent of Imperial troops be sent to reinforce the Marcher Corps. Well the republicans may be wanting in valour they are great in number and my officers believe we are too few in number to triumph against "Free Occidentia" in the unlikely event of hostilities. Furthermore Engellexic, Cantignian and Marcher soldiery standing shoulder-to-shoulder would be an irrefutable display of the empires peerless strength & unity, whatever their numbers.
THIRDLY I ask for your blessings should West March find it absolutely necessary to intervene militarily in Wasatch, and assurances of your support should the situation deteriorate even further. While I personally do not for the briefest moment believe either Great Engellex or Cantignia would abandon the March in it's hour of need on this point the Marcher Lords have been most adamant. I apologize for their impudence but I humbly request you indulge them.
Yours Truly,
His Grace the Lord Warden of Cobham Stefanus de Vaux
The Rt Hon. Arthur Godwin, Foreign Secretary
