From the Desk of the Lord Warden of West March

Most Secret - Eyes Only

TO: HIRH The Queen-Empress and HRH The Crimson Queen
FROM: His Grace The Lord Warden of West March

YOUR Majesties as has no doubt been brought to your attention the tumult beyond the Marches southern border has caused much upset in Occidentia, and while I would not normally trouble your persons with the minor squabbles among foreigners, I have come to the conclusion in light of recent developments that the crisis is entering a terminal phase. Most troublingly the armed intervention of the so-called "Free Occidentia" has escalated this conflict from a purely local matter to one with larger implications for the balance of power in Occidentia; my councillors are understandably much alarmed that such a populous republic is flexing it's military muscles in the vicinity of the March. I surely do not need to tell you how unfortunate it would be if they were to establish a permanent garrison on the Marches southern border.

These are the concerns which have compelled to make these three requests of you and your governments;

FIRSTLY as I am sure there is consensus among our councillors and ministers "Free Occidentia" must be made to withdraw completely from Wasatch at the soonest possible time. To this end I believe a resolute & united diplomatic response from the empire is the prudent first step: we must make clear to these meddlesome republicans that such aggressive movements along the empires periphery will not be tolerated.

SECONDLY and though as a Marcher I must confess it wounds my pride to ask this of your persons, I humbly request a contingent of Imperial troops be sent to reinforce the Marcher Corps. Well the republicans may be wanting in valour they are great in number and my officers believe we are too few in number to triumph against "Free Occidentia" in the unlikely event of hostilities. Furthermore Engellexic, Cantignian and Marcher soldiery standing shoulder-to-shoulder would be an irrefutable display of the empires peerless strength & unity, whatever their numbers.

THIRDLY I ask for your blessings should West March find it absolutely necessary to intervene militarily in Wasatch, and assurances of your support should the situation deteriorate even further. While I personally do not for the briefest moment believe either Great Engellex or Cantignia would abandon the March in it's hour of need on this point the Marcher Lords have been most adamant. I apologize for their impudence but I humbly request you indulge them.

Yours Truly,
His Grace the Lord Warden of Cobham Stefanus de Vaux

OFFICE FOR HER HIGHNESS
THE QUEEN OF & CRIMSON ISLANDS
THE DUCHESS OF HAMMERSMITH

His Excellency Maximus Grantley, Baron Grantley of Persephone, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary From the Royal Court of Persephone

THIS TELEGRAM IS DELIVERED UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE IMPLARIC COVENANT & CROWN

To
His Grace the Lord Warden of the Occident, Stefanus de Vaux, Telegram No. 86, West March

TUESDAY 14, AUGUST 2012
CONTINENTAL EMERGENCY

Her Highness Queen Alice is a faithful adherent of the 'True Peace', extended to the divine vestiges of the Engellexic Establishment as it still exists throughout the modern world. It is your professional, cultural, and racial obligation to ensure the righteous realms of the Great Engellexic Western March remain unmolested by the repugnant forces of republicanism. However, the audacity which compelled you to make this personal appeal to Her Highness the Crimson Queen, and the Queen-Empress, is most unusual and culpable of fraud - if in fact this conflict does not pose a legitimate threat to the Establishment.

The tone in which His Grace' telegram was fashioned appears accusatory and desperate. Lady Alice prays that this is not truly the ambience affecting her Marching Cousins, and should this condition become terminal, she hopes that better minds and higher spirits persevere over the shameful ideas which may now be percolating within Occident Councils.

Despite the shadow of doubt cast by His Grace, the Lord Warden of the Occident, the Lady Queen of the Implaric Covenant & Crown has instructed me to express a willingness to seek a united response from Vesper, as led by Dulwich, to break the will of republican marauders that now threaten every corner of this Great Empire. Composing a marshal force of Imperial Patriots is in fact the duty of Dulwich, and while Her Highness has serious reservations over mixing Grand Covenant Expeditionary Troops with Marcher Regulars, she recognizes a higher Imperial Authority, which might only call for such an arrangement if it was absolutely essential to the preservation of our glorious culture.

Forward !
Maximus Grantley
Baron of Persephone

DULWICH, THURSDAY, 16th AUGUST 2012

The Noble Lord The First Lord of Aldwych d'Evercy has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the Lord Warden, Lords and Commoners of the West March.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE LORD WARDEN, LORDS AND COMMONERS OF THE WEST MARCH
I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

Shall disclaim alike all intention of attempting to criticise conditions of Occidentalis War of which her Majesty and Aldwych d’Evercy House has as yet no complete knowledge, and of impugning the conduct of the West Marcher Cabinet in not having imparted more detailed information to myself and her Majesty. I shall endeavour to recommend to her Majesty and the Cabinet of Ministers the exercise of a prudent but high-spirited reserve, and will also counsel them to watch with the utmost vigilance the progress of developments in Occidentalis, with respect of the West March, Monterrey, and Free Occidentia.

I should also like to express a firm, but by no means a very sanguine confidence in the prospects of a regional war in that part of Europe, and I will denounce the notion festered by journalists who endeavour to become statesmen, that Great Engellex, though she may have gained the substantial objects of the Engello-Montel War, is yet to find strength or courage to continue the fight for the other victories to be seen around Europe.

The Empire has never been better prepared for war than at the present moment, with our strength daily increasing; should a campaign be forced upon us, anyone of her Majesty’s realms, I am with the confidence to say that the results would no doubt enable us to demand conditions more brilliant than those that were taken in the previous; but at the same time if those disagreeable bandits in Free Occidentia should offer something quite satisfactory, it would not be wise to reject them, with a view to the ultimate chances of a more splendid offer.

Nonetheless, I can state that Aldwych d’Evercy House is of course overseeing the preparations to lay the necessary papers before the Council of State relative to the Occidentalis Crisis; and I will determine for a suspension of expectation of direct Engellexic involvement until her Majesty and the Cabinet should be in possession of the whole circumstances of the crisis and potential war, though, I may be indulgent and say that the strong possibility exists here that the Council of State will find it only necessary to make readied an Engellexic Expeditionary Air Force (EEAF) and an armoured land formation to operate alongside West Marcher forces in any theatre of war that should evolve.

The Imperial Cabinet is certainly desirous of peace, if it could be safely and honourably obtained.

By the Grace of GOD, of the EMPIRE of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN-EMPRESS, through the FIRST of LORD of ALDWYCH D'EVERCY, his Grace the DUKE of NONSUCH
