We are in complete agreement with the statement of the Aurarine Republic and we will do our best to make the trial as transparent and fair as possible. We hold political freedom and equality in high regard in this country and our very people would never allow us to make such a move based on political motivations. We assure you that there is no negative stance toward any one political viewpoint in Ionia as demonstrated by the fact that only two weeks ago it was some of the government's most prominent MPs that got arrested for the tax evasion as well. All persons in this nation are equal in the eyes of the law, and politicians have to set an example for the rest of us. To that extent any politician who breaks the law is despicable and deserves a trial. Once again we will try to make this trial as transparent and fair as possible and rest assured that our independent and publicly elected courts will be as fair as humanly possible.

Ionia to send humanitarian aid to and Jurzan!

Yesterday the Ionian Minister of Foreign affairs announced that Ionia will be covering all the costs of the Ionian Humanitarian Organizations and their volunteers deployed in Jurzan. "It is our sacred duty to help those in need no matter what the cost is.", he stated, "Human lives are way more important than petty money!" This comes after a request of the government of the Himyari nation that has recently been ravaged by a heavy drought.

You as a player are just too close to the Eastern Cape to use your once secondary, now primary nation to have any stake in the once colony of your formerly primary nation. Also the first picture in your news is from 1999, and I'd guess the second image is also from sometime in the last 20-30 years. It's just unnecessary to use these images here, I would recommend the easiest images to find for this sort of thing would be the Marshall Plan: ; Most of these would be era appropriate, but again: Ionia should not be involved in Eastern Cape.

Ionian trade deal and alliance with Portusgalia fully officialised! First crates of Ionian foreign aid arrive in Jurzan along with Ionian volunteers!

Today the Ethnarch-President of Ionia and the Ambassador of Portusgalia in Ionia signed the needed diplomatic documents to completely officialise the alliance and trade agreement which had been announced a few days earlier. At the same time the first shipments of Ionian Foreign Aid along with about 1000 Ionian volunteers belonging to various Ionian humanitarian organizations, mainly the Ionian Blue Cross and the Hippocratic order.

Template for SOKI trials!

The official model for the trial of the SOKI members and PMs has been announced earlier today by the Ionian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Three supreme court judges will preside over the trials, and they have been selected by vote of the parliament as they are considered neutral. The jury will be made up of 2 PMs from each party and 10 randomly selected civilians. The whole process will be observed by an independent Tyrrhenian committee to ensure the neutrality of the trials and look into the case. The committee will have no access to any B or higher class classified documents. This template bares the approval of the accused SOKI PMs and members, the Ionian Government and parliament and Tyrrhenia.

Eleftherios Venizelos passes away!

Today at 12:35 PM Elefthrios Venizelos one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Ionian leaders in Ionia's modern history passed away at the age of 93. Venizeolos, the first man to be named Ethanrch and the founder of the 2nd Ionian Republic as well as Venizelism was the man that lead Ionia through the victorious Samaritan Wars reclaiming almost half of modern Ionia, doubling Ionia's popualtion and size and turning Ionia into the democratic and independent state she is now. Venizelos had spent the last ten years of his life in exile in Germania but he returned recently after the Ethnarch and his personal friend, Demetios Spirtizis Andrianou overthrew the tyrannical King, abolished the Kingdom and restored the Republic. He had recently been transferred to Ionia's Military Hospital by supreme order of both the Ethnarch and the Prime Minister, with his friends, them included, and family at his side in his last moments. A national week of mourning has been declared and the Parliament has approved a law making March the 11th a National Holiday. The Ethnarch has addressed the nation along with the other important state figures, but the entire nation cannot hod back their grief for the loss of a man who sacrificed so much for and gave so much to Ionia. Rest In Peace.

Flag debate! Government titles changed!

Recently there has been a large debate on whether the Meander Flag, Ionian's current flag, or the Christian Cross Flag, which serves as Ionia's Variant Flag, should be the primary flag of the Ionian Confederacy. The debate was brought to parliament after a request by a member of the Liberal Coalition, while the government has dismissed the issue. At the same time there has recently been a change in the country's legislation concerning the tilt of the Head of State. According to that change the Ethnarch-President will have his current title replaced by tow separate titles: Ethnarch of the Ionians ad President of the 3rd Ionian Republic. The titles will belong to the same person but the Head of State may be refered to as either title or both titles separated by a dash or comma.

Flag changed! Augustaborg debate flares! Diplomatic meeting with Ivernia!

Ionia has officially changed her flag. As a result many of Ionia's secondary flags, jacks and ensigns have also been changed. An Ionian flag is included with each copy of the newspaper while a full list of the new Ionian flags is available at . At the same time Ionia has achieved a joint diplomatic summit with Ivernia to discuss diplomatic issues, treaties and possible cooperation between the two democratic nations. Finally a diplomatic debate has recently flared up after Augustaborg, a city in the Eastern Cape, declared independence, with Carentanian troops being deployed in its vicinity while Asylan's forces have been deployed to ensure the city's safety. Most RTDO nations condemned Asylan and Augustaborg while Ionia, Lisse and the Tripartite Agreement nations have commended Asylan on its efforts to safeguard the Independence and sovereignty of the world peoples and have publicly recognized the Democratic Republic of Augustaborg.

SPECIAL EDITION!

State funeral of Elefthrios Venizelos concludes! Monument to Venizelos revealed! Ivernian diplomats arrive! SOKI trials one step before completion! Territorial waters in the Long Sea closed off!

The State Funeral of Eleftherios Venizelos, the first man to be named President of the Ionian Republic and Ethnarch of the Ionians, concluded today at Algolis' Metropolitan Cathedral, with all going according to plan. The Cathedral was full of Ionian Officials, friends and family of Venizelos as well as Foreign Dignitaries, including the Crown Prince of Suionia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suionia, Her Majesty the Queen of Portusgalia, the Portusgalian Ambassador, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portusgalia and others. At the same time large remembrance demonstrations took place in all of Ionia's major cities, with 2 million people participating in Algolis alone. At the same time the Ethnarch revealed a statue of Venizelos outside the Ionian Parliament and another one in Salonika's main square. Of to another issue the Ivernian diplomatic mission arrived today in Algolis and is currently in the Zappeion Hall, where the summit is taking place. The SOKI trials are expected to conclude tomorrow, as the Jury will deliver their verdict then. Finally Ionia's government announced that Ionia will be temporarily closing off all Ionian Territorial Waters in the Long Sea to any Warships headed for the Eastern Cape so as to not get dragged in a possible conflict, after a Carentanian Naval Force passed right next to Pharos on its way to Augustaborg. The Ionian Government has also offered Algolis as neutral ground for diplomatic talks between the two sides so as to defuse and resolve the Augustaborg Crisis peacefully.

Emergency Broadcast by IRT1!

IRT1 announcer: Ladies and gentlemen we have to disrupt our program as a result of emergency news! The Tyrrhenian Police Force arrested 5 innocent Ionian tourists on chanrges of espionage. The tourists were in fact KKI members on vacation that were visiting Tyrrhenia to show their children the "socialist miracle" at work as stated by their family and friends. The Ionian side is demanding their unconditional surrender to Ionian authorities. At the same time a the Ionian government accuses Tyrrhenia of attempting to influence the legal process concerning SOKI. The Tyrrhenian ambassador has been summoned to explain his government's immoral and down-right illegal and insulting actions. More at tonight's central news broadcast. We will now continue our program.

We find the double-standard shameful with which the Ionian state denounces Tyrrhenian actions as "illegal" when there is ample evidence for the charges of espionage and a fair trial in the making. The insistence of the Ionian regime to pursue its own flavor of political persecution is downright terrifying. It is apparent that, even in a Tyrrhenian prison, the accussed Ionian citizens are better off than in Ionia proper, as at the very least, they can expect their rights as humans to be respected in the free world and to anticipate a trial where their voices will be heard and they be judged by facts and law alone, not put on a hastily concluded trial by matter of their political affiliation.

The Workers' Republic unconditionally stands with its Tyrrhenian allies and will support them in their quest to bring the truth to light and punish Ionian espionage attempts.

It is funny to hear Carentiania, the very definition of a warmongering rogue state, lecturing us about political prosecution and human rights. While I know you surely would have wanted the SOKI coup to succeed so that Ionia too would have fallen to the Communist menace this didn't happen and it will never happen. The SOKI members that attempted the coup are on trial for their crimes against the Ionian people and there's nothing you can do to stop that. If we really wanted a political prosecution we would have also arrested the KKI members, as KKI is far more organized and a member of the Communist International. But we didn't. For unlike Carentania and Tyrrhenia in Ionia we care of one's crimes not their political beliefs when prosecuting them.

SOKI trials conclude! Diplomatic debate flares after arrests! Changes to constitution announced!

The SOKI trials concluded today after the jury announced their verdict. Of the 30 arrested PMs 16 were found guilty and 14 were found innocent. Of the 22 accused party members 14 were found guilty and 8 were found innocent. Of the 16 guilty PMs 6 will pay 30,000 Drachmas each as a fine for tax evasion, 3 will pay 100,000 Drachmas as a fine for tax evasion and be under house arrest for 6 months for taking part in minor crimes, 2 will spend 2 years in prison for taking part in drug trafficking and 5 will spend life in prison for attempts to forcibly overthrow the elected government and partaking in organized crime. At the same time of the 14 arrested SOKI members 8 will spend 2 years in a rehabilitation center and take part in 5 year long compulsory public service for minor drug trafficking, illegal drug possession and heavy drug use while 6 will spend life in prison for weapon smuggling, directly or indirectly aiding attempts to overthrow the elected government, drug production & trafficking as well as organization of illegal prostitution and heavy tax evasion. The remaining 22 innocent persons which have been released will receive a 500 Drachma refund each and may go back to serving the legislative body of the nation as PMs. On to the diplomatic front a debate flared yesterday after Tyrrhenian police arrested 5 Ionians on charges of espionage. It was quickly discovered however that the arrested persons were not Ionian citizens but rather persons who had stolen the passports and IDs of Ionian citizens. The actual owners of the IDs and Passports are living their lifes normally in Salonika, Ionia. The Ionian government has requested more info on the ID & Passport thieves and has requested the return of the stolen Ionian IDs and Passports. Finally the Government announced that the proposed edit to the constitution was passed in Parliament with almost unanimous vote. The only ones who voted against it were the National Dawn and Liberal Coalition PMs who went on to insult both Government and KKI PMs.

16/3/1954 - The New Ionian Constitution!

New Ionian Constitution after the edit of 16/3/1954

On this day of Sunday, the 16th of March of 1954, the Parliament of the Ionian Confederacy hereby approves and ratifies the following edits to the Constitution of the Ionian Confederacy.

Α. Ionia is to be a Unitary State with Federal Republic elements under the name of the 3rd Ionian Republic. Ionia's subdivisions are to be known as States.

Β. Ionia's Head of State is to be the President of the Ionian Republic. The Ethnarch is no longer to be a state position but rather a simple decoration-title granted by the Ionian Parliament or the President of the Republic to living or deceased persons who have served as President of the Republic or Prime Minister of Ionia. The President of the Republic is to be refereed to as His or Her Excellency, depending on the gender of the President, and is to be elected by the Parliament every 6 years. The President of the Republic is to be the commanding chief of Ionia's Armed Forces. The President of the Republic is to be the first citizen of the Ionian Republic. The President of the Republic may fire a Government if he or she considers it to have breached the Constitution or have acted against the benefit of the Ionian people and declare elections for a new one. The President of the Republic may declare a referendum for important national issues.

Γ. Ionia's Head of Government is to be the Prime Minister of the Ionian Republic. The Prime Minister is to be a member of parliament elected to that position by their fellow PMs every time a new parliament is formed after an election. All the government ministers are to answer directly to the Prime Minister who in turn is to answer directly to the President of the Republic. The Prime Minister is to be elected every 4 years along with the Parliament. the Prime Minister may at any time declare elections.

Δ. Ionia's legislative bodies are to be the Ionian Parliament and Senate. Each State is to be represented by 1 senator and a number of National Assembly members analogous to its population. The parliament is to approve or reject laws proposed by the Prime Minister and the Ministers through a majority vote. TO be passed a law must have the approval of both the parliament and senate. All laws have to be signed by the President of the Republic to be valid after being approved by Parliament. The President of the Republic may not sign a law but if it is approved by the Parliament and Senate a second time then he or she is obliged to do so. Ionian Citizens may propose laws to be voted on by parliament. These laws need the support via signatures of 3% of the Electoral Body to be voted on by Parliament.

Ε. Ionia's Legal Branch is to its Courts of Law. The Judges and other Legal Officials of the Federal Courts of Law, including the Supreme Court, are to be appointed by the President of the Republic with the Approval of Parliament while the Judges and other Legal Officials of the Courts of Law of each State are to be either appointed or elected depending on the legislation of each State.

ΣΤ. Ionia's Colonies are to be organized as Semi-Independent and Autonomous Commonwealths. Their Head of State is to be the President of the Ionian Republic. Their Heads of Government are to be Governor generals appointed by the President of the Ionian Republic with the approval of their Parliaments. Each Colonial Commonwealth is to have its own Parliament made up of a Senate and a Colonial Assembly functioning in a manner similar to that of the Ionian Parliament.

Ζ. All persons born within Ionia's borders from parents who are currently Ionian Nationals or one Ionian Citizen and one Ionian National are to be Ionian Citizens & Nationals. If only one of the parents is an Ionian Citizen but neither is an Ionian National the child will be an Ionian Citizen but not an Ionian National. If both parents are not Ionian Citizens and not Ionian Nationals but are permanent residents of Ionia the child will be a Metikos class Ionian Citizen. He or She will have the same rights and obligations as other Non-National Ionian Citizens but will have to pay a special tax, the Metikion, to remain in the country.

Η. All 18 year old Ionian Nationals who permanently live in Ionia will vote or run for office every 4 years in the general elections, mayoral elections and state elections. All 18 year old Ionian Citizens who are not Ionian Nationals, including the Metiki, may vote and run for office in the mayoral elections and state elections but not the general elections. Voting is compulsory for nationals and non-compulsory for Non-National Citizens including the Metiki. All Ionian Citizens may lose their citizenship if they are convicted of Treason. Nationals may not lose their citizenship in any case.

Θ. The Official Religions of Ionia are Orthodox Christianity, Catholic Christianity and the Hellenic Pantheon. In the State of Thrace Islam is also an Official Religion as nearly 50% of its inhabitants are followers of Islam. All persons living in Ionia are equal regardless of Race, Religion, Political Beliefs, Gender, Age, Nationality, Citizenship and any other personal views or characteristics.

Ι. All Ionian Citizens and Nationals born and living abroad are to have the same rights and passports as all other Ionians. After the age of 14 they will have to sign their Passports and pledge allegiance to Ionia, the Ionian President and the Ionian Flag every time their Passport is renews at an Ionian Embassy or Consulate.

ΙΑ. No more than 1,000 immigrants are to settle in Ionia every year. That number may be surpassed by up to 10 persons so as to not split families in half. They may receive Metikos citizenship after staying in the country for 5 years and will pay the Metanasteftikon tax until they become Metiki citizens. They may choose not to become Metiki class citizens.

Ionian diplomatic meeting with Ivernia concludes! Modernization & re-armament of the Ionian Armed Forces announced!

The Ionian diplomatic meeting with Ivernia has ended in a massive success for both of the friendly nations. The two nations have agreed on a trade agreement to increase, improve and encourage trade between the two nations as well as the creation of an Ivernish House in Algolis and Salonika to promote Ivernish culture in Ionia and an Ionian house in Alderburgh with the same purpose, after a most original proposal of the Imperial Ivernish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Additionally both nations have promoted each-other's consul to an embassy, with Ionia granting Ivernia a much larger building near the small Ivernish community's district in Algolis. Finally the two nations will engage in joint Naval exercises as this could prove beneficial to the navies of both sides as well as strengthen the ties between the Armed Forces two nations and demonstrating the close friendship between the two partners. On to the next subject the Ionian Ministry of Defense announced that a program to modernize and re-arm Ionian's Armed Forces has officially begun. The program code-named Hoplon was already being planned and worked on since 1950. As a large number of the program's products have already been produced or are already in production the program is expected to have completed within a mere 6 months.
