Strike at Liaojiang Railroad, Foreign Hostages

Worker's working on the Liaojiang Railroad, which connects Zhenjing with Danbin, have begun striking following the collapse of a bridge and the deaths of eight railroad workers. Citing poor working conditions and low wages, the worker's, represented by the United Railroad Worker's Association, have petitioned the government to review the contract given awarded to the Danish Norgaard and Larsen Far Eastern Development Company.

Worker's have taken project overseers hostage, including seven Danish nationals, sparking concerns from other foreign companies as to the security of their projects. The Imperial Ministry of the Interior has yet to comment on the situation, and local authorities are attempting to handle the situations.

The Liaojiang Railroad was set to be completed by December of this year and aspired to connect the developing industries in the south to the Imperial seat of Zhenjing, increasing connectivity between the two regions ten-fold since the destruction of two other rail connections in the south during the 1947 Luhu Dam collapse.

Imperial Government Warns of Poor Crop Yields

The Imperial government has begun releasing rice stockpiles to select regions in anticipation for a low yield season, an unpromising sign as the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches. Poor weather in the northern regions of the nation has resulted in crops with exceptionally lows yields, and agricultural experts warn that the northern regions risk famine if measures are not taken by the provincial leadership and Imperial government.

While stockpiles of grains are normally reserved for wartime provisions, Yujin has been plagued by insufficient rainfall and poor crops for 3 harvest seasons, with many peasant farmers unable to pay rent and malnutrition becoming endemic in many regions of the country. Despite repeated pleas by farmers for debt amnesty, many hundreds of landowners have begun removing their tenants and saving land until fair weather returns.

Imperial authorities assure afflicted regions that grain stores are sufficiently capable of providing food for residents, and that every effort will be undertaken to ensure that famine does not become an issue.

Historically, Yujin has undergone prolonged periods of drought and famine every century, and scholars express that this unfortunate blight is a natural occurrence. Regardless, the need to import basic necessities as well as slower than expected growth is driving the Empire further into debt against nations such as Engellex and Danmark, which provide the majority of loans to Yujin.

Crop yields in the southern valley prefectures of Karakhstan have been particularly robust this season thanks to the fertile loess and good spring rains earlier in the year. With domestic consumption quite small compared to our stock, the Government of Karakhstan is prepared to offer discounted grain and corn shipments for disbursement in Yujin for those in need. If this is agreed upon the next cargo trains destined for Lianggang from the industrial corridor south of Almatii can be loaded with said crops by early next week.

As ever we seek to help those in need and forge healthy business ties with our neighbours to the south.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE
CONFEDERATION OF FREE OCCIDENTIA

The Confederation of Free Occidentia is offering to send excess grains to Yujin in order to aid in a relief effort. The Confederation for a long time has been fruitful in its harvests and will not stand by as people in Yujin suffer from the shortages. The payment of the excess grains shall be done on a loan of sorts. Yujin will receive the grains requested free of cost for the time they deem necessary, however, the price of the grains they request will need to be paid at some point. The Government is willing to eliminate interest rates due to the severity of the situation.

Should the Government of Yujin have a better deal worked out or agree to our own deal, trade ships leaving Miracle Harbor to Yujin will be refitted to handle more grains. The Government of the Confederation is determined to work along side the Government of Yujin to aid in the relief of the the issue and ultimately rectify it.

Department of Agriculture and Industry

HIM Xiong Qirui wishes to express his gratitude towards the esteemed nations of Karakhstan and Free Occidentia for their offers. The Empire of Yujin will finance these purchases through the mortgaging of several properties in Lianggang, and will be prepared to receive shipments via train at that port for distribution to nearby commanderies. However, Lianggang port is currently at full capacity to unload dry bulk cargo ships, and as such all Occidentian cargo ships should unload their cargo at Nianxu port.

As of yet, a crisis has not presented itself, but the Empire is taking preparatory measures as harvest levels are expected to yield thirty percent less product as before. Imported grains and Imperial stockpiles should offset this, and the Empire will begin exploratory measures to avert famine in the future.

The Imperium protests vociferously at the treatment of our citizens whilst conducting their legal and private business whilst nominally under the protection of the Empire of Yujin and we demand that the seven named Danish citizens are released forthwith with no harm. We expect that everything within the power of the Imperial government is brought to bear on the situation as a matter of extreme urgency.

His Majesty's government expects its citizens to be treated with courtesy and respect in whatever walk of life they operate in, save gross violations and illegality, and not to be subjected to the ordeal of the threatening of life, cessation and impediment of liberty and personal safety wherever they may be across the world and this applies no less in this case.

Furthermore, subjects of the Realm cannot and should not be used as pawns in the internal political machinations within Yujin. Whilst we have the greatest of respect for local sensitivities, a line must and has been drawn.

I shall be calling in the Imperial Ambassador to the Court of St Ansgard to the Foreign Ministry here in Christiansborg for a debrief and to communicate our supreme displeasure at this incident.

The families of the hostages have been informed of the news as soon as we have been informed and shall be kept abreast as and when necessary.

We hope that this incident does not spiral out of manageable control and that it can be swiftly drawn to a close. However, in the event that the hostage crisis drags on, the result could be irreparable damage to Dano-Yujiner relations in its many manifestations and to those between the Occident and Yujin as a whole which will be watching closely.

Violence at Liaojiang Railroad

The Imperial Ministry of the Interior announced today that protesters at Liaojiang Railroad in Jiangbei Province have been arrested and detained following reports of violent clashes between Imperial Police and striking workers who had taken seven Danish prisoners hostage. Imperial Police report that they had attempted entering negotiations with the worker's when gunfire was heard within the camp. Assuming worker's had begun executing prisoners, Imperial Police units quickly moved to eliminate the offenders and ensure the safe retrieval of Danish hostages.

Imperial Police met resistance, and officials report that eight police officers, including Commander Ge Cailian have died from gunshot and knife wounds, and four Danish hostages were executed by Union member He Dianle, with police postulating that He Dianle may have acted under orders of the United Railroad Worker's Association.

"A full investigation will be launched into URWA activities, and we will discover if any conspiracy to commit sedition against the Empire exists," Police commander Pang Daochian stated. "We apologize to the Kingdom of Danmark and the families of those innocents who have died in these events, and will do our best to ensure that these crimes are not repeated."

URWA Leader Chuan Mengde Arrested, Connection to Violence

Imperial Security announced today the arrest of URWA leader Chuan Mengde in connection to the outbreak of violence at Jianbei Province, where either police officers and four Danish nationals were killed by a worker riot.

"After searching the URWA premises, it was apparent that the leadership of the union was in direct contact with the strikers at Liaojiang railway, and that Chuan Mengde in fact ordered the attack on police personnel there. As such, the state will move forward with the investigation into a possible conspiracy by the URWA to commit sedition and treason. These are heinous and malicious capital crimes which target the security and sovereignty of the Emperor himself, for which there can be no other recourse than death," Imperial Security spokesman Hu Jiedao stated shortly after making the arrest.

"Chuan Mengde was taken into custody after resisting arrest, along with six of his colleagues. The URWA Hall is no considered a crime scene, and as such has been cordoned off. Any union members wishing to speak with their representatives should instead contact the Ministry of the Interior."

Communist media in Carentania has already implied a connection between the URWA and the radical anti-Emperor leftist movement, a threat which police have said they are not ruling out. "Carentanian media has never been a reliable source of information. Despite that, we can not rule out anything at this point, and will be looking into all possibilities."

The Reformed Church of Potenza would like to respectfully ask the government of Yujin to explain, and perhaps correct, statements made by the Miroslavan Central State News, which stated:

Several days ago minority Christians in the Jiangbei Province of Yujin were massacred by Yujin government troops commanded by Danish Satanic priests while attending a pro-communist worker's strike regarding unsafe working conditions and low pay. While twelve Yujin soldiers and four Danes were killed in the ensuing combat, several dozen Christians and more than a hundred communists were shot dead by their Satano-fascist oppressors. [OOC: ]

This sounds like clearly propaganda rhetoric, but we were curious if Christians were targeted for their faith, hence the mention of the victims' faith. We are not launching accusations at the government of Yujin, only asking for clarification and a chance for your institution to defend itself. We thank you ahead of time for your response.

The Miroslavan news agency is a venomous organ of the fanatical Communist Party of that state, existentially aligned against the existence of the Empire of Yujin and accountable to no one except the party. As such, the Miroslavan news agency serves no other purpose than to advance that malignant organizations view.

In relation to the allegations, we can state that of the dead, eight Yujiner police have been killed, another seven wounded, and four Danish nationals were executed, as well as numerous striking workers who resisted arrest and violently attacked our security personnel when they attempted to intercede in the ongoing executions of Danish nationals. Any deaths caused in relation to the attacks were related principally to their association with a vicious and unwarranted attack on our police forces, and are not due to any relationship with any creed or religion. The Empire of Yujin does not maintain a policy of oppression against any minority, and actively investigates any allegations of corruption by ministers accused of doing so. No accusations of anti-Christian violence have, as yet, been raised by subjects of the Emperor, and as such we have no reason to believe this has transpired.

We will continue to remain vigilant against any threat aimed at our Empire or His Imperial Majesty Xiong Qirui, and we thank the Reformed Church of Potenza for its concern regarding the integrity and honor of our nation and its people.

Chuan Mengde On Trial

Chuan Mengde, leader of the United Railway Workers Association, plead not guilty before the Imperial Jury today, which will force the URWA and Imperial government to go to court against each other over allegations that Chuan Mengde and his union were responsible for the deaths of eight police officers and four Danish nationals. Alongside Chuan Mengde, a number of other union workers will be tried in a far-ranging case that seeks to eliminate corruption in unions and restore order and faith in the Imperial security forces.

Chuan Mengde's lawyer, and de facto representative of URWA, Li Jianshen has warned that the coming trial is nothing but an attempt by the government to persecute associations of workers who are increasingly resistant to limited regulations and poor working conditions. Numerous other similar strikes have been dispersed over the past several months, often with several wounded workers, but Li Jianshen stated that "this particular strike was only notable for the involvement of violence. If the government wants to create meaningful solutions, they will need to pay attention, before violence becomes the standard way to gain attention."

The Imperial Ministry of the Interior contested this argument, saying that it does everything within it's power to accommodate the needs of the workers with the desires of foreign investors and the practical capabilities of the Imperial government. "We simply cannot yield to every reform that every striker has. The moment we do, we will pave the way for dozens more reforms. The fact that workers are resorting to violence only highlights the necessity to prevent them from being given further liberties."

Already several dozen protesters allied with the URWA have begun picketing outside the Imperial Court of Nianxu, with slogans ranging from pleas for the Emperor's intervention to "Free Mengde". Imperial police units remain on vigil to ensure that malignant elements of political society do not infiltrate the crowd and attempt to stir further violence.

Chuan Mengde Verdict Delivered

Chuan Mengde was found guilty today by the Imperial Court of Nianxu, along with his fellow peers, for their part in a conspiracy to commit treason and overthrow the Empire. In what is being called the "Worker's Plot", evidence was presented by the prosecution that showed that Chuan Mengde had not only planned the assassination of foreign investors and assistants, but had plotted to instigate violence against the Emperor's police as well as violence elsewhere around the nation.

As the verdict was delivered, protesters outside the Imperial Courthouse attempted to revolt and free their deceitful commander, but were met with stalwart resistance by the Emperor's own, the New Army. New Army units successfully repelled an attack by protesters, and reportedly discovered URWA members among the dead and wounded who were carrying among them weapons varying from grenades to pistols.

The Emperor himself has decreed that the URWA shall henceforth be banned, and that all members associated with the URWA should immediately abandon their ties to the traitor organization or face banishment from the Empire.

With the "Worker's Plot" foiled, and the URWA banned, the state is prepared to send off Ge Cailian and several other police who were killed in the line of duty and in the service of the Emperor. A state funeral will be held in Zhenjing at the Emperor's palace, and their bodies will be interred in the mausoleum of the Emperor's Guard.

The Soviet Republic of Miroslavl condemns this flagrant show-trial of patently innocent individuals and accompanying massacre of unarmed civilians by the Yujinese government. All diplomatic and economic ties between the Empire of Yujin and the Soviet Republic of Miroslavl are hereby severed.

Bomb Attack at Funeral Kills 96

A bomb attack occurred early Tuesday evening at a ceremony being held for nine dead officers killed in clashes with seditious elements of the rebel worker organization known as the URWA, responsible for the massacre of officers and foreigners at Liaojiang railway last month. Among the 96 dead include High Commissioner of the Imperial Police, Deng Xilian and Governor of Zhenjing Xiong Kelai, and over two hundred others were injured in the blast.

Witnesses report that the blast originated from within one of the caskets, implying that the attack was performed by an organization with connections to law enforcement, and as such Imperial New Army General Huang Zhu has declared martial law to be in effect for Zhenjing until an investigation of Zhenjing Imperial Police is conducted. Units of the Imperial Army within the capital have been mobilized and conscripts have been called to duty.

No organization have yet taken credit for the attack, but initial government speculation suggests that rebel URWA workers or affiliated unions may have been responsible for the attack.

Demonstrations in Liangang

Despite increasing security presence, demonstrators took to the streets of Liangang early Monday morning in force. With over ten thousand participants, demonstration organizers claim that thousands more are due to join. Several unions have sided with demonstrators, likely in response to the governments response to the URWA's affiliation with terrorist actions in Liaojiang and Xianxu, though local governor Wang Jianzhong stated that the disruptions should not impact Liangang's port or industrial sectors.

Police units have mobilized to contain the demonstration, which does not maintain valid demonstration permits, though Liangang Police have stated that they will first attempt to give the demonstrators diplomatic options for dispersing.

Demonstrators in Liangang are protesting harsh working conditions, recent anti-Union events, pay discrepancies, and corruption in the workplace. Some among the protesters have also accused governor Wang Jianzhong of corruption as well, though the governor has refuted such claims and has actively advocated against corruption within the government in the past.

Qiangzhou Anarchists Claim Credit for Funeral Attack

Qiangzhou Christian anarchists, loosely affiliated with a radical faction descending from the terror regime of the Eastern Saints, have claimed responsibility for the attack on a Yujiner state funeral bombing which claimed the lives of Deng Xilian and Xiong Kelai, as well as a large number of other innocent onlookers. The anarchists have stated that more attacks will follow unless the Emperor immediately abdicates his thrown in favor of a popularly established government.

Imperial Chancellor Li Tieshan has stated that the Emperor vows to bring justice to the anarchists for their crimes against the Empire, and New Army units have intensified security within the capital. Several armored units have positioned themselves around key government buildings, and checkpoints have been established at all major roads into the capital. Though martial law on the city has been lifted, a curfew has been enacted to ensure the security of the denizens of the city.

Christian radicalism in Qiangzhou has been on the rise in recent years, with reports of various factions rivalries leading to gang conflicts becoming more frequent in recent years. Security experts believe that these various factions may have external support, however the Qiangzhou region is isolated and local authorities are often too stretched to enforce Imperial law on the frontier regions of this mountainous region, with much military focus in the region being directed towards guarding the Meghalaya's from Vangalan aggression.

Protests in Liangang Close Businesses

Protesters in Liangang have forced businesses to shut down, closing down popular shopping districts and sending workers home early. The scale of the protests is reported to be small in scope, and governor Wang Jianzhong has stated that local security units are on watch to ensure that order is maintained.

"We can ill afford for these rabble-rousers to damage the safety of our citizens so close to the New Year," the office of the governor was quoted as saying earlier today. "The protesters will be forced to disperse before the festivities commence on February 14, and we will welcome the Year of the Snake harmoniously."

Protests within Liangang have developed concurrently with other notable developments in Yujin, including terrorist actions undertaken by the rogue workers association known as the URWA, whose ringleader Chuan Mengde was found guilty of conspiracy to commit treason earlier. Chuan Mengde faces death for his part in the Worker's Plot, which killed eight honorable officers of the monarch. It is currently unknown whether there is a connection between the current protests in Liangang and the terrorist actions at Liaojiang.

Explosion in Liangang Harbor, Military Mobilized

An explosion tore through the Yujiner harbor of Liangang on Tuesday, igniting a fuel storage facility and setting off a blaze that claimed the lives of 132 workers, with more than two hundred wounded, including numerous members of the Imperial military. The damage to the facility has significantly hampered the amount of goods that can be imported and exported into Yujin, and the facility itself has been forced to close as a thorough investigation into the causes is launched. Commercial traffic has been rerouted to Nianxu, the nations second largest port city in the south of Yujin.

It is currently unclear what caused the explosion, but the governor of Liangang, Wang Jianzhong, stated that he suspects a terrorist organization known as the Hongmenghui, a rebellious Communist institution believed to have masterminded the Liaojiang revolt and murder of Imperial police. The Hongmenghui, or Red Oath Society, is a Marxist organization led by terrorist commander Wu Jindiao, a rebel with a long criminal history who was educated in the West.

The Imperial government has begun moving military units into Liangang city in an attempt to isolate pockets of unrest and prevent any more attacks from being initiated against the public. "The security of our citizens is paramount. The Yujin government does not hinder the free expression of its citizens in regards to their quality of living - we seek to negotiate with the protesters to find a common ground to move forward on."

Counter-protests against the movements in Liangang have been started in Zhenjing and other cities within the interior as peasants, upset that their produce is unable to reach coastal markets, rally against the demands of what many see as the wealthy underclass of merchants and businessmen.

Emperor Praises Global Alliance Against Communism

The office of His Imperial Majesty Xiong Qirui has declared in favor of the Empire of Sikandara in its war against the Communist enemy in Raigestan and Miroslavl.

"The Empire of Yujin fully supports it's friend and neighbor, the Empire of Sikandara, in it's righteous and noble actions against the Communist threat in Raigestan and Miroslavl. Furthermore, we praise the actions of all those who have taken part in a campaign to unravel the grave threat these Communists present to our way of life. Everywhere, from Volodymr to Rijeka, the Communists plot our demise. Soon, they will fall, and the rule of the just shall continue."

The rogue state of Miroslavl earlier initiated a campaign of aggression seeking to impose authoritarian leftist rule over a number of states in the East, and is widely suspected within Yujin for supply and arming rebels within Yujin; in particular the Hongmenghui as well as Christo-Communist radicals in Qiangzuo.

Violence Flares in Liangang as New Year Celebrations End

Gunfire rocks the port city of Liangang as fighting erupts in the port city of Liangang hours after celebrations heralding the start of the Guisi Year ended. Sources within Liangang indicate that the fighting began when Imperial Army units encountered suspected Hongmenghui members on the outskirts of Liangang, smuggling in various weapons and equipment into the city. The shootout quickly spread into a wider engagement as sporadic firefights broke out across the city.

Hongmenghui members are suspected of having detonated a bomb at the Liangang Harbor, destroying a fuel storage facility and damaging many of the nations most valuable docks. Imperial police were investigating the incident further when the firefights began.

"In the early hours of the second day of the Guisi year, members of the criminal organization known as the Hongmenghui attacked several Imperial Army soldiers as they attempted to seize contraband from suspected terrorists. The Imperial Army responded with force, but more violence erupted throughout the city as further attacks ensued. The fighting has stopped, and we are combing the city to root out these aggressors," General Yang Zidi stated in a short press conference.

Preliminary reports suggest that as many as thirty Imperial Army soldiers have been wounded in the fighting, including nine deaths. It is unknown how many criminals have been killed, though the Imperial Army suggested that the number of dead may be as high as sixty.

Rebellion in Liangang, Nianxu: Imperial Forces Counterattack

Flags of revolt have been raised in the cities of Liangang and Nianxu as foreigners and merchants have taken up arms against the legitimate Imperial rule, destroying the harmony of the Guisi Year and plunging the regions into chaos. Armed rebels associated with the terrorist organization known as the Hongmenghui agitated large numbers of foreign educated merchants and bought the loyalties of many others with foreign money, raising an army of "demonstrators" who undermined the authority of the regime by pleading for foreign intervention in domestic politics before foreign ambassadors. Despite maintaining a public stance of Non-Violence, this was little more than a facade to draw foreign support for their cause, while traitors attacked Imperial Army units in the suburbs of Liangang and Nianxu.

In Nianxu, traitors were able to capture the City Hall and publicly executed regional governor Tan Xinyang, as well as seize multiple police precincts and take hundreds of officers as hostages. Imperial New Army 62nd and 88th Divisions were able to intervene shortly after the execution of the regional government, engaging the traitors in combat and capturing the rebel commander Han Juemin, leader of the Nianxu revolt. Traitors continue to fight against New Army forces throughout the city, which has been placed under martial law by General Zhao Yue.

"These rebels are threatening the security and livelihood of the hardworking subjects of the Emperor who live in Liangang and Nianxu. The traitors are paid for by the Communists and Republicans who see Yujin as a battleground in their worldwide conflict. The people of Yujin support their Emperor, and only those traitorous money-hungry merchants can be bought. We will continue our operations in these cities until order is restored," Governor Yang Jianzhong stated at a press conference.

Numerous traitors have taken refuge in the premises of the Carentanian and Parthavan embassies, straining relations between the Empire and those nations. The Empire is looking to move forward through diplomatic channels to resolve the situations peacefully.
