Senior Communist Party official criticises Sereniérre
AP International
In the third day of debate at the National Congress of the Vangalan Communist Party, Chairman of the ‘Romesh Nabi’ Young Communist League Subrato Praminik denounced the liberal reforms in the fellow socialist state of Sereniérre and urged against further market reform. He claimed Sereniérre was ‘surrendering’ to capitalism and described the recent flag change as a ‘disgrace’. His speech received a standing ovation from many of the attending delegates.
The ‘Romesh Nabi’ Young Communist League, named after the famous Vangalan guerrilla fighter who participated in many rebellions abroad, is known for its strong anti-revisionist stance and many of its leaders are well-known hardliners. Chairman Subrato Praminik is a controversial figure in Vangalan politics and has publicly clashed with prominent reformers and moderates, most notably External Affairs Minister Ajoy Qamaruzzaman, who warned today’s speech ‘threatened revolutionary solidarity’. The Chairman, has previously called for Sinhese diplomats to be executed and is linked to attacks on foreign embassies and businesses.
Sereniérre has yet to comment, although Subrato Praminik’s words are likely to damage relations. The speech is particularly inflammatory because of the planned high-level meeting between the two Communist nations later. It is unknown if Chairman Praminik is invited.
