Maybe we can create a rule against people attacking NPCs? Or we can have someone RP the opfor if they do?
I think he means that the creation of NPCs is an escapism from war RP happening with primary nations. I think it probably is.

Experimenting in placing some NPCs in greened dead zones like Himyar would probably be the best compromise to this wider discussion.

That might work. I tried before with Central Himyar for that same reason.

We should have at least one nation like the Congo, Brazil or South Africa to be able to refer to culturally in RP, but we don't need a stand-in for every tiny European principality.

I'm against NPCs unless they serve a purpose... like make a caliphate or something to stand in for Mecca? Ok. Sure. Papal States is also a bit of an NPC-ish establishment. NPCs for NPCs sake to fill in the map to make it look pretty? Eh... I don't like that.

As I said in the discord, I am willing to have a yearly vote on adding the top 3 NPC ideas of the year just for fun, as then there is a competition with all of the creativity done throughout the year... that actually seems like it could serve some kind of purpose, like a creative outlet that doesn't go overboard.

Otherwise, I'm kind of against new NPCs.

As for colonial applications, I think we need to restrict those to one time additions to satisfy the opinions of the various players. You can add a colony, but only with your initial application, and then the one time addition.

TBF, Himyar and Occidentia (LATAM) are the areas that see little to no activity or very little (one or two players), Toyou too but Lars brought it to life, especially when Xen is active now too.

I've nearly made a Occidentia colony several times over the past year, simply for some flavor, but have other narratives that take priority and likely won't go on this quest until those narratives are finished.

To be fair, all of this does make me remember Corrientes quite fondly :)))

I don't think these are mutually exclusive. Kind of like how the lands that are now @Remuria were once a placeholder for Italian city states, we can do that with these NPCs. You can assign them a flexible role now that can kinda offer non-binding suggestions for possible future roles.

Doing a moderated close here. If there are interests in NPCs and that discussion it deserves its own thread topic unrelated to this topic.

Further: in the course of this discussion "new map rules" or "new colony application rules" were broached over discord. Either post what suggestions you have for application changes on forum (Map Suggestions, or Community Votes) or contact active staff such as Ovi and I to begin operationalizing your ideas for map rules.
