GOVERNMENT OF SERENIERRE
COMMISSARIAT FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS

PRIVATE LETTER

10. Février. 1957

To,
The Foreign Minister of Eiffelland.

Dear Sir,
T
he purpose of my letter to you this day is to bring an important matter to your attention. The situation in the region has, admittedly, been rather tense over these past many months between the two Francophone powers of Gallia. With tensions waxing and waning at various points in response to well attested problems on the shared border over the issue of illegal movements by Serenierrese citizens belonging to the Burgundian ethnic minority. Given this matter, and the historical relationship between Serenierre and Bourgogne, the sensitivity of the matter is quite apparent and much documented in international politics.

As such, being a great power on its own accord, Eiffelland has frequently played a valuable clandestine role in serving as a conduit for diplomatic messages from our Government to the counterpart in Chagny and I take this opportunity to reaffirm that historical approach of the Trier Government. But in recent time, given the ever increasing belligerence by the Burgundian military, public opinion in our country requires stronger and more robust statements by the Government that may, if taken without context, seem more hostile than is expected in the diplomacy of Gallia.

You may well be aware of the fact that our Embassy in Chagny was closed last year and we appointed our ambassador to Eiffelland the charge of keeping contacts open with the representatives of the Burgundian Government by using our offices in the Embassy in Trier. However, it has been communicated to me by our diplomatic corps that the premises on which the Serenierrese Embassy currently is housed is stressed in terms of managing the workload of not just our diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Eiffelland but also with duties and responsibilities regarding the Grand Duchy of Bourgogne.

It is thus that the Government of Serenierre officially requests permission from its counterpart in Eiffelland for either allowing us to expand the current embassy by purchasing further property in the capital or by allotting another facility or land which shall be able to meet the demands of the highly important role that the Embassy in Trier plays in the exercise of Villesen's diplomacy.

So, it is my hope that Eiffelland shall continue to play this important role in facilitating diplomatic messages and contact between us and Burgundy.

Subject: Enlargement of Embassy of Serenierre in Trier

Dear Sir,

We completely understand the problem you are describing. Therefore, we will grant you permission to enlarge your embassy in Trier.

We think it would be most practical for your diplomatic and other staff in Eiffelland if your embassy is not spread over several locations in Trier. Therefore, to avoid possible problems with purchasing buildings around your current embassy, we suggest that your embassy is moved to a larger building, or that you build a new embassy on a different location. What are your thoughts?

Best regards,

Rudolph Kögler, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chancellor

GOVERNMENT OF SERENIERRE
COMMISSARIAT FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS

PRIVATE LETTER

24. Février. 1957

Mr. Kogler,
At a time such as this, where matters are truly as tense as they are, the revocation of the permission for a pre-approved matter is most unfortunate. The fact that Eiffelland has long acted with a cool neutrality regarding the issues of Gallia, this sudden policy change does disappoint us. At a time when the need for diplomacy and cooler heads to prevail is much greater than before, the Embassy in Eiffelland requires its facilities to not be bogged down as they are. Thus, officially, I ask the Eiffellander government to reconsider its decision.

Subject: Enlargement of Embassy of Serenierre in Trier

Dear Sir,

With apologies for the delay, herewith our answer to your repeated request for enlargement of you embassy in Trier.

Our refusal to provide permission for this enlargement still stands. However, a reconsideration of this decision will result in a decision that is positive to you if you release the Pelasgian journalists currently in your custody.

Best regards,

Rudolph Kögler, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chancellor

GOVERNMENT OF SERENIERRE
COMMISSARIAT FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS

PRIVATE LETTER

10. Avril. 1957

Mr. Kogler,
The People's Republic has noted over the past few months that the Kingdom of Eiffelland has done its utmost to disregard its traditional stance of neutral and well reasoned diplomatic policies. The delay with regards to my letter of February 24 is indicative of the general disregard that has taken hold in Trier vis-a-vis Villesen. It is a sad thing.

However, given the total lack of support from Trier and from your office to our earlier requests to ease tensions with Bourgogne, we have managed to find alternative paths to stabilising the situation. The original purpose for our expanding the premises of the Embassy has been independently resolved and so I officially withdraw the original request. Additionally, I must point out that the manner in which your office has dangled this matter over our head and adopted an inconsistent and incoherent stance is unbecoming of a diplomatic power of your repute.

Additionally, I must say that letters such as the one issued by you regarding the issue of the trial of Pelasgian nationals in Serenierre is an unwelcome intrusion into the matters of a sovereign state and is a gross symbol of disrespect of the ability to provide a fair trial in Serenierre's legal system. The Ambassador of Telora has been present at the main hearings of the trial to demonstrate to the international community our commitment to providing
a fair trial to the arrested individuals.
