GOVERNMENT OF SERENIERRE
COMMISSARIAT FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS
PRIVATE LETTER
10. Février. 1957 To, The Foreign Minister of Eiffelland. Dear Sir, The purpose of my letter to you this day is to bring an important matter to your attention. The situation in the region has, admittedly, been rather tense over these past many months between the two Francophone powers of Gallia. With tensions waxing and waning at various points in response to well attested problems on the shared border over the issue of illegal movements by Serenierrese citizens belonging to the Burgundian ethnic minority. Given this matter, and the historical relationship between Serenierre and Bourgogne, the sensitivity of the matter is quite apparent and much documented in international politics. As such, being a great power on its own accord, Eiffelland has frequently played a valuable clandestine role in serving as a conduit for diplomatic messages from our Government to the counterpart in Chagny and I take this opportunity to reaffirm that historical approach of the Trier Government. But in recent time, given the ever increasing belligerence by the Burgundian military, public opinion in our country requires stronger and more robust statements by the Government that may, if taken without context, seem more hostile than is expected in the diplomacy of Gallia. You may well be aware of the fact that our Embassy in Chagny was closed last year and we appointed our ambassador to Eiffelland the charge of keeping contacts open with the representatives of the Burgundian Government by using our offices in the Embassy in Trier. However, it has been communicated to me by our diplomatic corps that the premises on which the Serenierrese Embassy currently is housed is stressed in terms of managing the workload of not just our diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Eiffelland but also with duties and responsibilities regarding the Grand Duchy of Bourgogne. It is thus that the Government of Serenierre officially requests permission from its counterpart in Eiffelland for either allowing us to expand the current embassy by purchasing further property in the capital or by allotting another facility or land which shall be able to meet the demands of the highly important role that the Embassy in Trier plays in the exercise of Villesen's diplomacy. So, it is my hope that Eiffelland shall continue to play this important role in facilitating diplomatic messages and contact between us and Burgundy. C.R. Bertrand Commissar for External Relations |
