Philly 1.2.1 will be released today. Note that this is the same as 1.2, but will have the proposed expansion. Before 1.3 is released (1.3 will have the next edition of added nations and cities), I'd like to see general approval of the expansion.

Here is the link to — A reminder, this has no territorial updates, nation updates or city updates. The sole purpose of this update is see where we stand on the map expansion. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself...
1.) Do we need a map update?
2.) If so, is Philadelphia 1.2.1 presenting the kind of update that we need?
3.) Does Philadelphia 1.2.1 look good?
4.) Should anything else be added to 1.2.1?

I'll begin work on 1.3 after we've reached a consensus to some extent on the plausible map expansion. I've made a note of the requests thus far, so no need to repost them.

i think the land bridges between the southern continent and the south pole look a little odd. Overall though, outstanding map. I think the additions are definitely an improvement.

One I dont think we need to expand just yet, but the expansions do look good. I like the new island between me and Belmont.

Only reservations are the land bridges between the now middle continent and the southpole thingy. Might want to make the new americanish continents more raged around the coastline like youve done with the rest. and lastly why did you move Shrinyeo further South? he was fine where he was relevant to rp.

Those are meh thoughts, good work thus far.

The land bridges exist because I felt it looked even more odd to have a very long and extremely narrow strait across the bottom.

As for Shrinyeo or whatnot, he was moved south because where he was, he was so close to Xen, a hop-skip-and a jump would've been an overstatement.

First, I don't think I am real thrilled with the big new continent, as it dries up too much ocean. Second, I don't think it is a good idea to create such a prime map spot in the middle with that island. It is one thing to add area to the outer edges as it is something that is expected and accepted, but to flop down an island that size off the coast of such a densely populated area, and at such a late date I don't is really fair to those who have been there for so long and based their histories and RP on a map without that island.

Nix the land bridges, I know the 'long narrow straight' sounds a bit odd but if you can find a way to represent it as a narrow area that parts of it occasionally freeze over (ala the Bering Strait) then you'll be on to something.

Also I'd separate the new continent to the west a bit more, move the larger continents apart and have the smaller island just a bit further off from the northern piece.

I ask anyone who actually has to change his history due to the island to step forward and say so.
In my opinion we could use more than just that island in central Europe. It's the most requested area and the one where European cultures are settled. We will have a number of players wishing for a spot in that area.

My only problem is the land bridges, they look out of place, but other than that A+

I think the additional continent to the west looks greatly out of place and I think expansion should be focused within central Europe, as someone pointed out because it is the most requested area. The southern expansion looks good although the land bridges do look odd, but I understand your point on that.

Answers on the questions:

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. I agree with Kryo that the land bridges are a bit strange, but for the remainder, it looks well. To overcome the problem with either odd land bridges or an odd long narrow see strait, you could make the sea strait bigger and shift the "south pole" more to the south.

4. The only thing I'm asking myself, is if I should take into account that I have a tropical climate, or if I can continue assuming that I have a meditarranean climate. This leads to a general question to you all: Where are we going to put the equator of our earth? Because that will have consequences for the climate we are going to RP. At this moment, the lowest tip of Dagomba has a similar spot on earth as RL Scotland, but then on the southern hemisphere; so now it's summer there, but in July, he will have to RP snowstorms.

Really, the only problem I have is how out of place the new western continent looks. If it were to appear a bit more realistic, as in, shape-wise, it'd be pretty cool.

1.) Do we need a map update?
Yes we do, I think we need a more flexible attitude towards islands, map borders, etc. I think it's likely that in about 3 months, the amount of nations on our map will start to decrease again, but at this moment we have an imminent shortage of map spots.

2.) If so, is Philadelphia 1.2.1 presenting the kind of update that we need?
It's on the right track.

3.) Does Philadelphia 1.2.1 look good?
The central island looks very good, the southern border of the southern continent looks good, if it weren't for the land borders with "Antartica". The far-western islands don't look that good, too generic.

4.) Should anything else be added to 1.2.1?
Maybe try to incorporate the far-western islands with the mid-western continent, give that coast a bit more detail (maybe some inlets, small islands or something like that). Other then that, it's great!
