The clergy of Cortona are urged to hold special services in all churches of Cortona. Marcus Clemens II stresses out members of criminal organisations as the Maffia are risking their very souls and eternal life. Any Catholic must know the path to heaven isn't that of corruption and violence.

The D’Annunzio Administration

Prime Minister D’Annunzio faces several things as his first days as Prime Minister. The biggest news is that Prime Minister D’Annunzio has just fired Foreign Minister Basso and replaced him with Elia Abu Madi, the first Muslim Foreign Minister. Prime Minister D’Annunzio stated that after the embarrassment in dealing with the Vangalan Wreck issue and Basso’s opinion in foreign affairs, he was not the right man to serve as D’Annunzio’s Foreign Minister. However, Elia Abu Madi is an interesting pick. He is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but he has only been in that position for three years. The Senate still needs to approve Madi.

In only two days, D’Annunzio announced he plans to write a proposal to Parliament to begin work on a Civil Rights Bill. He claims the bill will be one of the largest Civil Rights initiatives in history. This is also raising concerns as Prime Minister Capriani claimed that “no bill or law will change the hearts and minds of the people, social change must happen by will of the people.” This, added with the several Ministry Positions being threatened, has raised the thought that D’Annunzio will not be Capriani. The Civil Rights bill will address matters based on religion, race, orientation, and nationality. Many within Parliament are eager to see what the Prime Minister has in mind.

D’Annunzio also requested that Parliament make the Canal Zone the 15th Region of Cortona. He has also sent a massive amount of troops to the Canal, a total of 16,000 to begin fighting back what is now considered to be a terrorist organization, the Mafia. It is the largest deployment of troops in Cortonan History. The Prime Minister said that the conflicts should end quickly with the new troops. Also, the police forces of the Canal Zone have been relieved of their duty and the Gendarmerie has taken over police actions.

D’Annunzio also stressed increasing Cortona’s place on the world stage, rumors of a second world tour have risen, but there hasn’t been a comment from D’Annunzio on the matter. D’Annunzio has also said he is concerned that Cortona and Abruzicstan have distanced too far and that it is extremely important for the two nations to remain close allies. D’Annunzio did say that he would like to visit Abruzicstan, Belmont, the Talemantine Empire, and Batavië.

Boluxia Crisis

Today, Prime Minister D’Annunzio announced that Cortona was involved in the Boluxia Civil War, backing the democrats. The Prime Minister authorized C$16 Billion in aid to the unofficial nation to aid in direct relief to the civilians. However, Cortona’s commitment to militarily intervene if necessary has caused several problems.

Carentania and Volga, two socialist nations, have both stated their support for the Socialist North in Boluxia. After the murder of 348 protestors by the Socialist Government, the Prime Minister decided to openly pledge support for the Democrats. This was not received well on the world stage. The Prime Minister declared that the reason for intervention was to prevent capitulation of the democrats by military force.

Kyiv later announced that they would not tolerate foreign intervention in Boluxia. Cortona addressed Kyiv’s declaration, to which Kyiv replied with stating they would “What you send to Boluxia we will destroy.” While this was happening, the Prime Minister was addressing the people on his Civil Rights Bill and has yet to make a comment on the threats made by Kyiv.

Thankfully, the rhetoric of the Socialists changed and they wish to discuss a peaceful resolution to the Civil War. The Prime Minister did state that he welcomes the peaceful resolve, but the offer still stands if the negotiations fall through. Determined to end the Civil War peacefully, D’Annunzio himself offered to go to be an advisor to the two parties.

More on this story as it develops.

We bring to you live, the Prime Minister of Cortona, Massimo E. D’Annunzio.

“Hello fellow Cortonans. Tonight I address you on matters I find to be imperative to our nation. It has been almost a week now that I have been Prime Minister of Cortona. In this week, it may seem as though I haven’t been looking into the social problems in this nation. This is the reason I am making this address. Tonight, I am going to present my plan for a new Civil Rights Bill.

This Bill is extensive, it is meant to be. It will not be a simple bill, in any way. It will involve intensive debate, but that debate is necessary. This Civil Rights Bill will address discrimination against Women, Muslims, Homosexuals, and Minorities.

First, before this bill is written, I am requesting that Parliament hire a special team to investigate fairness in employment. We will be looking for any forms of discrimination. From the results of that senate investigation, we will know what problems we need to address when working with this bill on employment.

Secondly, we will address discrimination against the Muslim Religion. This discrimination has gone on for years, too long in my opinion. Many Prime Ministers have attempted to rectify the situation; their noble attempts have made differences, but none that were significant enough. This bill will be significant enough. We must understand that no law will change the hearts and minds of the people, but that cannot be used as an excuse for us to ignore it. It has been far too long for us to ignore it. My plan is to eliminate employment discrimination, as stated earlier. Segregation, although not wide spread throughout the nation, is still in existence. This bill will make it illegal. This will not only affect Muslims, any public area must provide service to anyone, regardless of their gender, race, orientation, or religion.

On the issue of Homosexuality, we have confirmed that the homosexual population is increasing. This bill will guarantee that they deserve equal rights that a heterosexual couple will receive, including the right to marriage.

This bill will be fair reaching and it will change the “social norms” of our society, creating a more equal nation. I hope that our efforts will be received well among the public, I hope that this bill will be effective. I hope that the debate will be clean and productive. And, to conclude this address, I hope that all Cortonans have a good weekend.”

Riots erupt at the Presidential Convention

The way the Senate selects a new President is they go to some city to host a convention. There, each party in power will nominate who they feel is best suited for the job. The nominee only needs one more vote than the rest to gain the position. Because of this, it is said that the majority party selects the President.

The Presidential Convention was held in Zallah, Misratah. The United Democratic Party was the first to speak at the convention and name their nominee. Next came the Equality Party and then finally the Socialist Party. When the When the Socialists began to speak, that’s where the problems arose. The Socialists claimed, and quote:

”The Equality Party has dominated National Politics for decades. It is my opinion that when Prime Minister Capriani, god bless his soul, relinquished his allegiance to the Equality Party, they couldn’t stand losing power, therefore either did it themselves or cooperated with the Mafia for the assassination of Capriani so that D’Annunzio would become Prime Minister and they’d be able to select an Equalitarian to the Presidency, thus regaining control.”

Because the convention was open to whoever wished to attend, civilians were there when the socialists made their claim. This resulted in a massive mob rushing the stage. Policemen and Gendarmerie Units tried to stop the rush, but they were soon overpowered. Equalitarian erupted, screaming at the Socialists.

The rioters were stopped before they could get onto the stage and the Socialist Senator was removed from the area, for his own protection. However, the riots continued outside of the building, but this was ignored and the Convention went on as planned.

Without surprise, the Equalitarian, Guido Monte, won the Presidential Election. The Prime Minister is expected to appoint Monte as soon as possible.

We bring to you live, the Prime Minister of Cortona, Massimo E. D’Annunzio.

“Good Afternoon Mr. President, Sir Speaker, esteemed Senators and Representatives, Justices of the Constitutional Court, Chiefs of Staff, Members of the Press, and citizens of the Cortonan Republic. This is my first formal address to the highest levels of our Government. I am making this speech on the topic of my domestic policy. Cortona has come far in the last fifty years, we’ve experienced immense growth. I was in my teen years in the 1950s, the decade that things began to change. I saw the change as it played out throughout my life, I vividly remember this change. Now it is time for our Government to continue the change. Today, I am announcing the Immaculate Society Program. The Immaculate Society Program will make this nation an industrial giant, provide for technological breakthroughs, a nation that combats poverty on all fronts, and ultimately, an Immaculate Society. It will not be easy, nor will it be cheap. But this program isn’t going to be a justification for massive spending; it will be an investment into our futures, an attempt to rectify problems now so our children will not need to.

The Civil Rights Bill is the first part of the Immaculate Society Program. If we are to build this Immaculate Society, there needs to be justice and equality in our society. The second part of the Immaculate Society will be a transportation bill. Our National Highway System hasn’t received much maintenance in over ten years. Potholes plague them, so I’d like Parliament to provide the funds to fix the highways. Also, in this bill, extend the reach of the highways to cover more of the nation. Also in this bill, I’d like Parliament to work together will railroad companies to begin to construct a national high speed railway system, to provide fast transportation across the nation. Some of our ports have deteriorated, so in this bill, Parliament should provide the funds to repair our ports, as they are vital.

There are more goals I am looking to achieve; however, I do not want to flood Parliament with requests for legislation. I conclude this speech with my best wishes to Parliament. I thank everyone for their time and I say, goodnight.”

Parliament to Prime Minister: You’re too ambitious

Today, many members of Parliament openly condemned the Prime Minister’s continuous requests for legislation. Parliament claims that the PM’s Civil Rights Bill is taking up much of Parliament’s time and resources, as this is its main concern. Then, the Prime Minister is continuing to ask Parliament to make the Canal Zone a Region, which hasn’t even gone into formal discussions yet. On top of that, the Prime Minister just put in a request for a transportation bill and the construction of a high-speed railway system across the nation.

The Prime Minister responded saying “In 2001-2005, I was dealing with a Parliament that got things done when asked. They never complained about being overworked. I expect the same from this Parliament.” In 2009, many new Parliament members were sworn in, as the 2001-2005 Parliament was largely out. When Parliament received this they responded claiming they wanted to get these bills done right so they wouldn’t need to relook them ten years from now.

Parliament was even more ticked off when the Prime Minister announced a world tour, to which he would be gone from Cortona for much longer than Capriani was. The Prime Minister plans to visit more nations, as well as the ones that Capriani visited. The Prime Minister said he wanted to familiarize himself with the world’s leaders. Members of Parliament claim he should postpone the tour and continue to look at Parliament’s progress over the Civil Rights Bill. The Prime Minister said he would not postpone his trip.

D’Annunzio announces a World Tour

Today, Prime Minister D’Annunzio announced his plan to go on a world tour, one larger than Capriani’s, to familiarize himself with the world’s leaders and establish even stronger bilateral ties. For the nations Capriani didn’t visit, D’Annunzio plans to open student exchange programs, sign some form of trade agreement, and more or less “get to know the person.” Some have looked down on D’Annunzio’s plan, claiming he has just flooded Parliament with requests and is now leaving the country. The list of nations D’Annunzio wishes to visit are as followed:

Talemantine Empire
• Levantine States
• Abruzicstan
• Belmont
• Radilo
• Frescania
• Carentania
• Hajr
• Anbat
• Oikawan Empire
• Franken
• Životinje
• Batavië
• American Union
• Marquette
• Papal States
• Sinhai Union
• Wiese
• Makai Islands
• Jizhou

The List the Prime Minister submitted adds seven nations. Despite the criticisms, many are interested to see how they go. And, of course, some of the countries are beautiful this time of year.

Protests amass in Muslim Populations

Several Muslim populations are complaining that the delay on the Civil Rights Bill is because of Parliament’s unwillingness to bring equal rights to the nation. The occupation of the Canal Zone (a heavy Muslim populated area) has been criticized as a way to keep “Muslim terrorists” at bay. Many Catholics still claim that Muslim Extremists were behind the murder of Capriani and the destruction of several Catholic Churches.

The protests are inspiring new ones on the mainland. Brak and Zallah are hosting the largest demonstrations of people screaming “equal rights now!” Parliament has stated that they are working as fast as they can on the Civil Rights Bill, but it is difficult because of the Prime Minister’s wish for speed. D’Annunzio did not like being blamed for the delay and condemned some members of Parliament for putting the blame on him. From this, many people are afraid that D’Annunzio will isolate the Rossetto Mansion from Parliament even more than Capriani had. However, D’Annunzio promised he’d get the legislation passed.

Several Muslim leaders formed the “United Cortonan Muslim Society” or UCMS to officially organize peaceful demonstrations on behave of equal rights for the Muslim people.

(OOC: Again, I don't want to RP each meeting. If anyone wishes for something different or unique to occur at the their meeting then PM me and I'll make it so)

The Republic is very eager to receive the Prime Minister. We regret that His Excellency may not have an opportunity to meet President Zhang due to health complications. But Premier Li is eager to discuss the future of the Jizhou-Cortona relationship. His Honor has already hinted at advanced economic cooperation and guest worker programs.

Massive find has companies and the Government watering from the mouth.

A week ago, teams from Cortonan Mines went to investigate the Northwestern sections of the nations to look for natural resources, mainly coal. What they did find wasn’t coal but another resource, coltan.

They didn’t find it in small amounts either, massive reserves were discovered and almost immediately Cortonan Mines sent in their crew. The find was said to guarantee massive success for the company in the new future. At C$160 per pound, the material is quite valuable. However, once the company announced their find, companies flocked to the Northwest to exploit it. Other companies, not of a mining nature, have moved to purchase land in the Northwest to force mining companies to purchase the land. Spallazani, one of the first to begin purchasing land, has made a profit of C$650 Million.

The Socialists in Parliament pleaded for Parliament to seize some of the land and begin mining the product so the Government could rake in money. The plea was met with harsh backlash from Equalitarians, who believed the companies are benefiting society more than the Government is. Prime Minister D’Annunzio stated he would support no action by the Government to seize any land with the intent of mining or selling it to businesses.

Estimates say that around 6,000 new jobs will be created by this find.
