Prime Minister Faces Fight Over External Affairs Minister

Prime Minister Nikolay Raev faces an uphill battle with his nominee for Minister of External Affairs. Dr. Adolphe Denizot was nominated for the post, by the prime minister. Dr. Denzot, while a notable Austurlander statesman, his poltiical veiws are those of a staunch supporter of Raev's conservative party. The minority Progressives in the house of Electors see Denizot with suspicion and that he will drag the Archduchy further to the right. The progressives, need to be strong opponents during the confirmation process if they want to be able to take a majority of the house in the december elections.

Speaker of the House of Electors, Anton Isakson, the Conservative Party leader, promised Prime Minister Raev a "swift and easy confirmation." Though it is unknown how the Progressives will fight this battle.

Prime Minister Deal Harsh Criticism

Prime Minister Nikolay Raev gave a harsh criticism of Belmont today at a press conference when he was asked about Austurland's position on Belmont.

"The situation with Belmont is very unstable and confusing. Their leadership is showing us a prognosis of bi-polarism, at the same time attempting to play the AGE against the EDF, while their membership with one was pending. My judgement is still in the air on Belmont." - PM Raev

Q: Mr. Prime Mininster what do you make on the information that Belmont may be actively seaking to sponser anti-communist forces?

"That is disturbing even as a rumour. Austurland is a constitutional monarchy itself, therefore our society tends to not adhere to the tenents of communism nor socialism. However, we do not attempt to desabilize any nation, and we do not condone. I mean just the idea is offensive in of itself." - PM Raev

Q: The Belmontian government have denied that fact of supporting anti-communist groups, and claim that it has all been a misunderstanding?

"If it is a misunderstanding then it is a huge, significantly huge misunderstanding. One that they will have to overcome. The support of terrorist groups is something that is not taking lightly and a simple 'its not the truth. They are lying. Believe us.' Is not going to cut it. Especially when they want to join the AGE and several AGE nations border communist and socialist states. They have made the greatest faux pas." - PM Raev

Q: How has this effected Belmontian AGE membership?

"It has weighed on the minds of all AGE states. I have spoken with leaders from Frescania and Levantine Confederation to Skånskige Statsunionen. Nations of the AGE are varied worried about Belmont and as it stands it may be unlikely that Belmont will receive membership. We do not want to have Belmont and they turn out to be a liability to the alliance." - PM Raev.

Cronstedt Incorporated to Reports Profits

Austurlander pharmaceutical company Cronstedt Incorporated has grown in notoriety following the outbreak of the Slavic flu. The CFO is expected to release preliminary reports on the current quarter that announce that the company will be posting a profit.

"The pandemic spread of the H3N2 virus has lead to increase sales, especially of Cronstedt Inc's anti-flu medicine, in recent weeks by citizens and governments. With the expected increased demand for our anti-flu profits are expected to rise following our new discount program to entities that buy large quantities of our product." stated CFO Marianne Tanquist in the report.

The increased demand has led the company to expand globally. With R&D labs in Austurland and Shinryeo, as well as the final set of negotiations to construct a laboratory in the Komoran Special Economic Zone in Serbovia. Cronstedt Inc is also looking for new locations to construct new laboratories in the Levantine States, Skånskige Statsunionen, and Franken. In order to fund these ventures the Board of Directors is considering taking the company public with listing an IPO on the Barca Exchange and the Dalerna Stock Exchange.

One set back has been the denial of samples of the original flu strain in Międzymorze. Without the samples of the original strain the Cronstedt scientists are unable to determine if the virus has mutated and if a proper vaccine is to be made available.

Prime Minister Meets with Kyivan President

Today President of the Allied States, Mikhail Revnik, visited Dalerna in the first state visit to Austurland by a Kyivan diplomat. The archduke and archduchess along with Prime Minister Raev greeted President Revnik at the Valquist Airforce Base in Dalerna.

The occasion was filled with spectators waving Austurlander and Kyivan flags as the Army band played the Kyivan national anthem. The historic moment was not lost on the politics of the capital city. President Revnik is the highest ranking diplomat from Kyiv to visit Austurland or any other nation. Many politicians are wondering about what is going to be discussed as the Ministry of External Affairs had been very secretive about the visit with many finding out the day of the President's arrival.

On the agenda are going to be rudimentary talks about fostering relations between the archduchy and the allied states. Also expected to be talked are topics concerning Kyivan-AGE relations.

Austurland still a Vassal of Fjäderholmarna

Recently discovered in a government archive, or lacking from that archive, may change Austurland's status on the international stage.

In 1301 a few years following the unification of the swedish states into Austurland by Hakkon I, Hakkon swore fealty to the King of Fjäderholmarna. The vassalage began to bring supplies and money into the war ravages state and to gain assistance against the Principality of Guyenne, a new vassal of Montelimar. Hakkon even traveled to Drottninggärden to pay homage to the king in 1304 in a grand ceremony.

Austurland remained a loyal vassal even into the Bergen Union with Arendaal when Arendaal and Fjäderholmarna were united by a single king. Archduke Hakkon II even married the daughter of the first union king. However, when Fjäderholmarna began to rebell against the Union Austurland was supportive and the Aren Archduchess overthrew her son ushering an era of Aren dominance. Following the death of Margrete in 1412 her grandson Eirik over turned her aren policies and ousted the aren ministers and began aiding the Fjäderholmarnan rebels which ultimatly led to the end of the Bergen Union. Eirik once again traveled to Fjäderholmarna to reaffirm Austurland's loyalty to the newly independent king.

Fjäderholmarna also assisted the archduchy in conquering Guyenne from Montelimar and uniting the island. The Fjäderholmarnan assistance proved critical in the fight to unify the island in 1504.

Over the centuries Austurland was one of Fjäderholmarna's more faithful vassals and allies in economic and colonial affairs. This partnership has seen Austurland flourish and stand on its own. However, this rich cooperation has mostly been forgotten in recent years as both government have moved indpendently over one another and have places significantly less emphasis on the vassal-lord relationship.

For the past 150 years Austurland and Fjäderholmarna have acted more as equal allies than a lord-client relationship. However, legally the vassalage has never officially ended, dispite the de facto independence of the two states. This can most be seen in the Austurlander coronation where the Fjäderholmarnan Ambassador traditionally gives his consent as representative of the King of Fjäderholmarna.

The question is how will this new revelation of past agreement effect Austurland today?

We protests this election of the new Secretary general without consensus from the alliance. We will be withdrawing our representative from the alliance and our military from the structure until something is done about this issue.

OOC: Dude I only put him up there because I'm the only active one left. When you and everyone get back with free time we can elect a different guy. Until then this guy can serve as a placeholder to keep the alliance alive.

Truth be told - the Blue Union Captaincy of Životinje shall reconsider its view of positive neutrality towards the Alliance for Greater Europe. If a man or woman from Austurland remains Secretary-General of that Alliance, he or she could only be a detriment to its Member Nations, and ultimately Europe as a whole. Time and time again, the Archduchy of Austurland has shown itself to be fiscally irresponsible on several avenues, this is simply not the right time for Austurland to be granted a position of power on the international stage.

A gruesome turn of events. AGE remains committed to destroying democracy, law and order and deprives the worker of its rightful status as unquestioned ruler of the means of production and capital. We spit on the accursed tomes that dictate AGE and its quest for worldwide domination, oppression of the weak and impoverished and enslavement of all free people. Let it be known, the People's Utopia of Îles du Diable shall one day overcome the terror and proverbial social blight known as capitalism.

The Tsardom of Shcherbatskaya would hope that this result will result in greater leadership from the Alliance for a Great Europe. The Alliance has failed to lead Europe in the past few months which has brought a sense of chao to the post-war order. Mind you, failure to lead will result in severe consequences which may never be recoverable for the Alliance.

Best of luck to Mr. Ortendahl and his first term.
