Danzig markets ready for further expansion, growth, experts say

Danzig, 11.09.2009 - Large Danzig banks are ready to use the extensive networks of the Danzig capital markets to finance further expansion into the rest of the world, experts say. The top banks of the citystate are likely to attract new customers, businesses and to provide necessary capital to start-up firms in emerging markets and guide established companies through the rough economic waters of the time. ``Now we are heading towards a more stable economic system with a new era of business. Cleaner, more efficient and above all, durable growth made possible'', a person familiar with the matter said. The expansion plans encompass most of the world except Oikawa which is deemed `too unstable', as the situation is likely to deteriorate over the years.

Available capital for these ventures will be provided by a pool of bank assets which will be used to set up closed partnerships or strategic joint ventures between banks. Primary markets chosen for this new strategy are Skånskige Statsunionen, Frescania and Levantine States. ``These markets will provide an excellent starting point where we can expand our busines models. Consolidated Tobacco seeks expansion in east, Dai Viet, Serbovia and Oikawa

Danzig, 11.09.2009 - President CEO of Consolidated Tobacco Philip Maurice said in a press statement after delivering surprisingly good and upboat Q3 figures and business outlook, he eyes expansion in the east. ``Capturing market share in emerging economies is integral part of our growth story for the coming years'', Mr Maurice said. ``Oikawa and Dai Viet are high-potential growth markets of quality cigarettes. We are in the process of arranging the paperwork to start selling and promotion of our products.'' Cigarette volumes amount to over 1000 billion sticks sold annually making Consolidated Tobacco one of the largest producers. It's flagship brands include Silver Lake, Neptunus Menthol and Light & Mild. It's primary competitor on the Danzig market remains Didier & Vitroux Tabak AG which has a stable marketshare of 45% and continues to grow with brands that attract youngsters and improvement of established brands. Marquette economy headed towards dangerous `debt deflation spiral', economists warn

Danzig, 01.03.2010 - Analysts at Delbrück Golomb & Cie., one of the oldest and most respected private banks in Danzig has issued a major warning concerning investments in the northern French state of Marquette. A dire prediction will be published in their 2010 Investment Outlook concerning the rapid expansion of the Marquette money supply and more worryingly, how Marquette sovereign debt is likely to face downgrade by international ratings agencies. Danzig firms have already put Marquette financials on negative watch and Moffat & Company even went as far to start downgrading Marquette banks and insurance companies. Danzig markets have lost some ground following the news as well as other markets around the globe.

Marquette bonds are trading lower while yield is shooting up, signalling warning signs all across the board, the report will say. Tomorrow when markets will open for the first time in 2010 it is extremely likely (institutional) investors and other holders of Marquette debt are going to liquidate part of their holdings and retain a marginally small part as a high risk, high yielding investment. `Marquette is going to become a casino for the world. People go in, trade, make money and exit the market as quickly as possible' an anonymous trader said during an interview last week. `I do not think it is entirely out of the realms of reality that their sovereign bonds will be traded as junk paper, pushing yields even higher as people lose confidence. Belmont takes singificant credit risk buying Marquette government debt, risks downgrade, analysts say

Danzig, 01.07.2010 - Banc of Danzig Securities LLC analysts say Belmont is taking `significant credit risk' buying Marquette government debt. The amount, which is supposed to bring some relief to markets around the globe and meant to stabilize Marquette government finances, is going to bring Belmont in `a precarious situation', according to a report released today. Support includes an interest free loan of $560,000,000 and $1.2 bn of Marquette government debt. An additional support package of $ 125 million is being considered but Danzig banks are starting to bet against the sustainability of such enormous stimulus, paid by Belmonti taxpayers. `The downward risks are significant. Rating agencies in Danzig are starting to get anxious. Marquette has already been downgraded and now Belmont faces the same situation as it buys too deep into Marquette. Risk appetite by investors is low, in terms of the situation in the northeast. Why any government would risk tax money is not entirely clear', mr Lucius Winesap, senior government bond analyst at Banc of Danzg Securities LLC wrote.​

Danzig Fiscal Police (DFP) and Danzig Taxation & Revenue Authority (DTRA) raids Islamic bankaccounts, seizes `illegal assets', `closes terrorist funding'

Danzig, 01.08.2010 - Today the DFP and DTRA closed down a number of investment funds, bank accounts and arrested a number of assetmanagers working without license who managed money, illegally according to the Danzig Banking & Finance Statutory Agency, and performed halal and islamic finance. These organisations operated outside the scope of the law and during `Operation Seabreeze' government authorities raided these businesses and frontcompanies. Many were making use of taxloopholes and shifted taxes and debts onto shellcompanies. In total 17 individuals were arrested and facing charges which will be released by the district attorney next week pending investigation. Most of the funds on the closed bankaccounts belongs to expats from Wazistan, Hajr and Anbat. The amount of money seized is around $ 12 million on bankaccounts and $ 31 million in assets under management.

How the money made its way to Danzig remains subject of speculation and the DA suspects that most is the result of illegal fundraising, invest and distribute the proceeds to terrorist organisations operating in said countries. A spokesperson for the DTRA, familiar with the matter and carrying out Operation Seabreeze said that `a major source of terrorist funding has been shut and their operations stopped dead in its tracks,' adding `the DTRA is not going after individuals who have clearly nothing to do with the investigations.' Assets of the people who held Islamic bank accounts will be taken over by chartered Danzig banks. Moffat & Company has made certain they will take over the business after striking a deal with the DTRA. Islamic banking is outlawed in Danzig since 1962 after a series of scandals and lack of transparancy. The government has stressed that their policy is to limit funds of unknown origin entering Danzig and to crack down on tax constructions and so called `letterbox companies'.​

Batavian nationals arrested on suspicion of sabotage, espionage and to thwart `future destabalizing events'

Danzig, 01.08.2010 - Danzig Metropolitan Police and the National Gendarmerie have made surprise arrests in the Batavian expat community after reports came in of a successful assassination of a mayor in the small town of Sjärholm in Skånskige Statsunionen, in the northeast. This assassination sent shockwaves through Europe, many people fearing Batavian infiltration to upset our democratic and capitalist system and install a communist dictatorship. For public safety's sake, the police has acted swiftly and apprehended an unspecified number of individuals holding a Bavatian passport, among others in several cases. Police will thoroughly investigate the matter and, if criminal acts are uncovered, these individuals will face long prison sentences in Danzig and will eventually be repatriated back to Batavië. The mayor of Danzig, Eugène Patrice Beauregard, has reacted with great dismay and expressed how appalled he was at the assassination, sending his best regards to Skånskige Statsunionen and hopes everything will be resolved peacefully. Danzig Navy to expand fleet, president announces

Danzig, 03.04.2010 - In a communique issued by president Alphonse Unacodego the Danzig navy will be expanded. Several shipyards in Eiffelland have been contacted to provide the most modern line-up of ships and coastal patrol vessels. According to the president, illegal immigration from `poverty stricken' states such as Wazistan and Anbat have caused a massive influx of immigrants and the government of Danzig is focussing on ways to prevent it from increasing. A more efficient navy is part of solving the problem, but it treats a symptom and not the problem at the heart. President Unacodego also slammed Carentaria for their unilateral sea project to cover the body of water between their country and Danzig. Specialists at the Centre for Advanced Strategic Questions, a defense thinktank which offers advice to governments around the globe believe the Carentarian sable rattling is a core reason for Danzig to expand the navy. To date, the Danzig navy has not seen great updates because Danzig enjoys protection from a joint defense treaty with Eiffelland. The project has been signed into law by a rarely used presidential decree. It is estimated to cost around 4.3 billion thaler and will be paid for by selling long-term foreign government debt held by the Treasury and central bank of Danzig.​

Illegal Vangalan citizens arrested during police raid on sweatshops

Danzig, 03.09.2010 - Police chief Eduard Lazard gave a press conference today announcing a tougher stance on illegal immigration especially from Hajr, Anbat and Vangala. Many of these immigrants work in sweatshops in the Tropolino Disctrict where most of the citystate's industrial activity takes place. The small district has the highest population density in the world and fire hazard, crime and racial tensions are the dominant factors for the police and fire services to cope with. Most of the immigrants from Vangala, Wazistan and Hajr send the money they earn home and a black market thrives in these streets. Roughly 85% of the Tropolino District's population is of foreign decent and half of them are illegal residents in Danzig. Yesterday a large action against illegal Vangalans was particularly successful with 90 individuals arrested facing deportation back to Vangala and around 290,000 thaler in funds confiscated from the sweatshop's owner who will be tried for tax evasion.

Eduard Lazard has been tasked to crack down on illegal immigration and closing down sweatshops where a wide variety of articles are made, mainly for export. Because most of the activity taking places are outside the scope of law, these goods remain untaxed and are not subject to laws and regulations concerning quality and safety. Many politicians are worried about illegal immigration from problematic nations resulting in clashes between people from Anbat and Wazistan. A surveillance society is being set up in these `hotspots' with 24/7 CCTV in operation, police patrols and random searches. All weapons are confiscated and the police has been instructed to round up and deport all people (men, women and children) who are not in possession of a Danzig residential or commercial permit. Oltremare: an emerging risk.
An analysis by the Centre for Advanced Strategic Questions

Danzig, 03.12.2010 - After the expulsion of Catholics from Oltremare, the nation wedged between Oikawa and Shcherbatskaya is in turmoil. With potential political pressure from both sides, the nation is resorting to extreme measures to keep internal security issues under wraps and is taking steps to prevent foreign intrusion into its affairs. It is also seeking new allies to the north where the Commandry, a nation in the northern wastes, seems to us a candidate with great potency. An alliance between the two gives the Commandry access to the Vostok Sea and therefore to a globalized world, easier access to capital markets in Danzig for commerce and markets for its industry. In return, Oltremare gains political support for its radical policies and finds security it needs to protect itself politically - and quite possibly - militarily from a belligerent Oikawa and awakening Shcherbatskaya. Pondering about these issues, it is tantamount to see the bigger picture emerging. Is Oltremare a threat to the world due to its internal hostile nature or is it an emerging market? As strategic analysts we feel it is necessary to refute the notion of Oltremare being an ordinary nation. It is at the heart of a geostrategic balance and proxy-conflict between eastern regional powers such as Oikawa, Cassiopeia and the Commandry. Hate runs deep between the old Empire and its western counterparts and it remains to be seen how the west will respond to it. Apathy may reign supreme to prevent the conflict from spreading.

Clearly we see risks in the fundamental lack of international cooperation and the lack of bilateral agreements concerning NBC weapons, reduction of stress on borders, immigration, terrorism and the fragmented internal structure of the crumbling Oikawan Empire, a remnant of colonial times. We believe internal desintegration of Oikawa will be sped up by stronger ties between the Commandry and Oltremare - including Cassiopeia - and the possibility of joint defense projects and according to political and military theorists in the employment of the Danzig Ministry of Defense, nuclear weaponry may not be ruled out as the crownjewel of cooperation within several years. It is difficult for Oikawa to enforce its will onto the Commandry with internal threats - terrorism being the main focus. Security forces will have to deal with uprisings in the near term and quell rebellions of people who have long suffered under the yoke imposed by the Oikawan imperial capital. This begs the following question: if nuclear weapons are a likely reality harmonized by two nations destined for closer collaboration, what can the globalized world do to stop two regimes from attaining these weapons? The CoN is a lame duck; we cannot expect more than words that ring hollow which lacks the slightest bit of authority outside its building in Wiese. Oikawa cannot act on its own, the nation is too vast for efficient military deployment and it will be fighting a three-front battle.

What may not be ruled out are the challanges posed by two smaller nations with a history of discontent towards Oikawa: Vangala and Ratomkira. Both states have 'unfinished business' with Oikawa and its bloody colonial legacy. Two smaller states may muddle the mixture of complex political alliances and may be drawn into the conflict when Oikawa is faced north, west and south to confront the Commandry, Cassiopeia and Oltremare. Another important issue rises from the aforementioned conclusions: does Oikawa have the spine to confront a potentially nuclear Commandry and Oltremare? The answer is a resounding 'no'. In a research paper published by the Danzig Ministry of Defense, an authorative analysis was written supported by intelligence that Oikawa does not posess the manpower or equipment to sustain a prolonged offensive conflict with Cassiopeia and the Commandry alone. Defensive any conflict will become an equilibrium because of the sheer size of Oikawa and the logistical difficulties such a massive operation poses for armies involved. If we throw in Oltremare and the highly likelihood of Vangala and Ratomkira the big picture becomes dramatic for the eastern empire. Catastrophic losses will be the norm and the scattered internal structure of the empire will, in due time, collapse as provinces collapse or declare sovereignity. In the event of provinces or republics seceding unilaterally, the eastern empire will be faced with the most dangerous opponent of all: itself.

The key to this potential timebomb lies in the capital city of Oltremare, Corpus Christi. There the ties will be forged with the Commandry that may eventually pave the way to a catastrophe. We have established that nuclear cooperation in the future is be the only means to lock-in any and all political attachment but it will come at the cost of a Sword of Damocles hanging over the east. The future of the east has been mortgaged to the brink and because the path Oltremare has taken. In its boldness by expelling Catholics the only real ally Oltremare can find is the Commandry. The international community must work together and prevent the Commandry and Oltremare from finding each other in despotism and military cooperation.​

Danzig investment firms urge caution when dealing with new Batavië, see `many hurdles' on road to financial stability

Danzig, 03.14.2010 - Batavië reminds me of the saying "meet the new boss, the same as the old boss". What looks brand new is in fact the old packaged in a fancy wrap. We at Lambert LLC do not believe in the Batavië miracle and the sudden shift from an oppressive communist dictatorship to a free market oriented state. The shift will come with dramatic problems and I foresee great instability and challanges going forward in 2010, 2011 and even 2012. After 2012 the situation may stabilize if the global economy shows growth and Batavië can keep on track of sustainable growth, low wages and political reform. Quoting the primary Batavian newssource BCN "Beginning tomorrow a new government bond programme will be unveiled to help finance the improvement and expansion of the country's road and rail system." First of all, this statement is evidence of the delporable state of the Batavian economy. Railroads are the arteries of a nation and they must start by revitalizing it? Surely the Batavian government is in need of funds but instead of immediately plunging itself into huge government-funded projects (transportation, reconstruction) why not manifest itself as a combatant of the Old Guard? It seems more logical to us to clean out the country of its old ways rather than focussing on `growth'. Stability first, growth comes next. Not the other way around.

Another problem arises: Batavië is plagued by ultra-low wages. Normally for a reasonably developed economy this should come as a relief. For Batavië it is a burden hanging around their collective neck like a millstone. The second Batavië will open its doors to foreign markets it will instantly become the least competitive economy in the world. Massive investment (upwards of hundreds of billions thalers) will be required for the Batavian economy to come even close to 2nd world developing economies like Oltremare or Hajr. In terms of globalization Batavië is ranked in the bottom 5 in a list compiled by the Danzig Globalization Institute (Danzig ranks 91, Batavië 22). When international conglomerates start to invest in Batavië the world economy has already picked up growth and it will fall behind the curve. Because internal stability is still a farfetched dream, companies will be reluctant to invest causing the stasis to continue. This inactivity, standstill, will only cause more problems because more investment is necessary to keep up with the world economy - or at least, attempt to keep up with yesteryear's inventions and developments. Therefore investors must be extremely cautious when dealing with Batavië. The announced bondprogram does not have a rating by any respectable ratings agency (neither Danzig, Franken nor Wiese firms have reacted positively but refrained from rating it) and issuance is beset with creditrisk which cannot be ignored. Interest rates are likely to be artificially kept low by government subsidizing or governmeng guarantees of coupon payment. If interest rates are high it is a telltale sign for pensionfunds and banks to stay out unless there's risk appetite and acceptance of losing money. It may yet to be seen if investors are keen to digest such a risky investment.​

Human rights activists gather to demonstrate outside Wazistani embassy, demand peaceful resolution, support CoN intervention

Danzig, 03.17.2010 - At least two thousand human rights activists have gathered outside the Wazistani embassy in downtown Danzig to demonstrate against the Wazistani response to insurgents and rebels. The violence with which the Wazistani government is trying to quell the uprising is according to a demonstrator `appalling' and `must be stopped as soon as possible. In the Avenue of the Hanseatic League, the government neighborhood, outside the newly created CoN office (to handle all foreign affairs, meeting of foreign dignitaries pertaining to the Council of Nations membership of Danzig) protestors demanded a statement from the Danzig delegation to support resolutions against the regime in Wazistan and put a stop to the human rights abuses going on. Danzig is a supporter of tough measures against Wazistan and the government perceives the situation as `global security risk' and calls for an international peacekeeping force to prevent further deterioration of security and stability. `Wazistani sovereignity is subject of discussion amongst my peers', Felix Löll, minister of foreign affairs, said during a press statement on Wazistan. `we must not keep up the illusion of the 19th century concept of a nationstate when there are global risks in terms of terrorism, financial crisis and security. Wazistan is a nation in turmoil and the international community cannot stand idly by and watch the situation explode. We must act regardless of Wazistani objections, the CoN must have a final say in this affair.'​

Terrorist bomb plot foiled by police during illegal immigrants crackdown

Danzig, 03.18.2010 - Fifteen illegal Wazistani radicals have been arrested by a special division of the Danzig police department after they were connected to a series of bomb plots and plans to wreak havoc in the Danzig financial district, the heart of international finance. These fifteen illegal immigrants have resided in Danzig for over a year it appeared and were `ahead in preperations' to detonate explosive devices on Taft Avenue and the government district. Computers, documents and portable harddisks were seized during the investigation. All of this was coincidence because the Immigration Service and Danzig police were combing through a building which was labelled as a `safehouse' for illegal immigrants. It is likely that these Wazistani terrorists were sent by the rebels to disturb Danzig policy of joining the Council of Nations and is a fervent supporter of tough sanctions against Wazistani rebels. A higher state of awareness immediately went into force with police patrols doubled in risky neighborhoods.

The president is working with his coalition government to increase city-wide security and is drafting laws permitting the government to install `sleeper agents' in all mosques and islamic organisations to search for `subversive literature and activities'. Such activities are grounds for immediate repatriation to nation of origin. Human rights organisations - the same one protesting how the Wazistani government reacts to the rebels with even more bloodshed - have said they will fight these laws in the Danzig Constitutional Court as they violate freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Even hatespeech is protected by the Danzig Constitution as long as it does not incite or call for violence against an individual or a group.

Despite best efforts by the international community, Wazistan is getting increasingly unstable and since the violence started many residents have fled the country and moved to Danzig, Levantine States, Carentaria and other nations. With problematic results in all affected states who see dramatic increase in criminal behavior and associated problems. The Danzig government is working on its own to repatriate all illegal immigrants back to Wazistan. Prisons are crowded with illegal immigrants resorting to crime to feed themselves and their families.
