Stress is building in financial markets, `serious threat' to fragile global economy

Danzig, 1.8.2012 - Professor of economics at the University of Danzig, Jules Levy, has written an editorial in the Financial Courier newspaper where he opines that the current threats facing the world economy are likely to come face to face with citizens around the globe. He concludes, having interviewed many central bankers, CEOs and financial analysts, the state of the world economy is `worse than many governments are willing to admit' and the war has left an even more dramatic scar on all participants than what is seen `at first glance'. Professor Levy also condemns the `state of inertness and ignorance' by rating agencies Springer and Shaw-Sterling, blasting their actions as `adding fuel to a raging global fire', downgrading various sovereigns. ``I respect the Board of Commerce decision not to intervene directly, but when we saw market response, it clearly signals `a serious threat' to th fragile global economy.

``What we see here are actions by two respected companies with a long history of profound accuracy in their assessment reports. But that was yesterday, now we see these two companies buckle under their own, internal pressure to downgrade economies to be `ahead of the curve'. But that is a logical fallacy. What they are doing now is nothing short of brazen incompetence. We all know those mentioned in their analysis aren't the pinnacle of sound public finance, but I argue for a system not to rate fanatically. Stress is building in financial markets. Danzig banks deposit more cash every month ever since the Banque Nationale de Danzig opened up the liquidity floodgates to prevent a terminal decline of bank balance sheets. Danzig banks have, as it is very well known in the financial community, drowned themselves up to their eyeballs in bad debts shortly before the war started, lending to nations who were short of cash to finance their warmachines. It was offset by huge speculative positions against the Northern Dollar, accelerating its collapse. Especially Mendelsohn's and Wass Molitor are to blame; their balance sheets are rotten and according to my research and investigations by means of FOIA requests, these banks have borrowed up to $230 bn thaler [€78.4 bn] from the BnD.''

``Furthermore, Mendelsohn's and Wass Molitor have deposited this money again with the BnD in the Depository Lending Facility - an account where banks can put away their excess cash at a mere 0.25% interest. Other banks also borrow from the Overnight Lending Facility at 1% interest but instead of putting it away in the DLF, they are actively propping up markets by buying up every asset out there, pledging it as collateral for more loans to the BnD only to buy more. To them, it's a win-win situation.'' An analyst at Lazarius & Monroe (a boutique investment bank) speaking on conditions of anonimity, confirms this is happening `with the implicit backing of our central bank', he added.

Professor Levy agrees. ``It gets worse, still. I believe the BnD is not going to support this scheme forever but given the circumstances, they are left with very few options. Due to ongoing, non-stop buying by market parties interconnected with each other, essentially defunct assets are still being traded on exchanges - Wiese, Montelimar, Suonian government debt for example - the BnD continues to accept it as collateral at face value. This is a ridiculous situation. The banks should take their losses, go bankrupt, move on. We're keeping zombie banks alive with freshly printed money. But, due to statutory limitations, the BnD cannot hold onto these assets forever - the scheme can go on a long time, but not the assets it owns. How is our central bank going to sell assets not marked to market, illiquid and thinly traded? It is repackaged with a variety of healthy government bonds held in its portfolio (except Danzig government debt), aided in sales and marketing of these assets by hedgefunds in Danzig. This is sending toxic garbage into the financial system all over the world - but to what ends, we do not know. We do know the following: everything is sold outside of Danzig. Number of buyers located in this city: zero.''

``I made this startling discovery when I had lunch with the CEO of a major bank where he admitted as much. I have written down his comments: `Of course we need to get rid of these assets. They're not worth the paper they're printed on. But the moment we stop buying, the second the market for these securities collapses. A network of funds around the world are cooperating. This is our unfortunate position. We desperately want to get rid of it all, we are getting rid of it, but at the same time, we need to keep buying to keep the market afloat - thats where the Banque Nationale de Danzig comes in. It's a perfect storm awaiting those who are buying into the tranched securities sold by our central bank and collaborating hedgefunds around the world. In my humble opinion, Danzig can escape the worst calamity, but the rating agencies made time a pressing matter. Still, time is on our side. Through this plan, we are generating cash, improving our cash positions and balance sheet, and we won't be the last ones holding the bag.'''

Danzig Ministry of Trade on mission to enhance trade with Talemantros, proposes new free trade deal

Danzig, 1.9.2012 - A Ministry of Trade spokesperson has announced a Danzig incentive to start up talks with Talemantros, and by proxy, Altai, to boost bilateral trade and enhance already existing free trade treaties. Also on the table is a new deal to replace several old agreements to increase investment in Talemantros and to make it easier for Talemantros and Altai citizens to conduct business in Danzig. Altai refugees have been living in Danzig since the civil war of 1935 and have been lobbying the government to push through these changes. The Ministry of Trade has been `very positive' about the proposals and says it will `send a delegation to Talemantros' to discuss the deal alongside the ongoing peace talks currently underway between Talemantros, Carentania and Altai.

Several consultancies have received Talemantros' requests to negotiate the deal as well as other tasks such as integrating key industries in Talemantros with those in Altai, contribute to a speedy recovery of the Altai economy and to streamline trade with the rest of the world. Altai's ability to raise €1 billion [$34 bn thaler] on debt markets proves to be a `strong signal' to international investors. The Altai government has released a note the government's incentive to pay off the loan within one year after auction, which has sent Altai bonds higher in early trade. The consultancies and banks involved in the deal have not been mentioned.​

Profit Motive: the Danzig Connection in the Collapse of the Northern Dollar
by Karl Holtz, PhD &t associates, published by: Free Press Publishing Company

Danzig, 1.13.2012 - What amounts to become a spectacular and quite possibly, political thriller, professor Karl Holtz (and associates) of the Danzig Institute of Technical Advancement has released what can, conservatively, be described as `monumental research' of recent economic history. The collapse of the Northern Dollar and subsequent plunge of global trade was, according to professor Holtz, not `a dramatic incident', but a `carefully planned and executed script,' with `surgical precision', and presents very compelling - and even convincing - evidence to support this theory. The book, over 700 pages long excluding references, sources and primary documents, is a very smooth read and often reads like a spy novel or a political intrigue. The reader may even at one point forget that what he or she is reading is nothing less than the truth and the cited documents and e-mails are in fact, written by fellow citizens we hold in high regard and are respected within their institutions. Karl Holtz has kept no secrets and has named all important figures, banks, companies involved in the ordeal. Some even threatened legal action against the writer and his team and the institute where he teaches and researches a broad variety of topics, but none were taken to court - thus yet.

Before publishing, Holtz even went as far as to send around copies of the manuscript for a `thorough and rigid peer review process', adding `I wanted to leave absolutely nothing to chance.' The book, well sourced and appealing to those who are not familiar in high finance, find that acronyms and abbreviations are carefully explained in layman's terms without harming content or the aim of this book: exposing a shadowy "conspiracy" of bankers, hedgefund managers and speculators to bring down the ill-fated Northern Dollar. Holtz brings forth several arguments to support his case, all of which ring true in light of events. He rejects the notion of hindsight and places events in correct perspective and remains true to context. While this book doesn't include the findings of professior Jules Levy, Holtz fully agrees with his important research on the global economy today, reflecting: ``the global economy was already in a rough spot when the Northern Dollar crisis erupted in earnest. Banks were having a very difficult time finding worthwhile investments and its shareholders were getting agitated by lower than expected earnings per share, poor stockmarket performance and foreign competition. I believe we must look for the roots of the relentless campaign against the Northern Dollar in this period.''

] writes about ``Bantyr's seizure of all Northern Council assets in the country has sent markets downward, raising pressure on the Northern Council to take action against the renegade country. Currency traders in Danzig anticipate the situation will worsen considerably in the short term and are selling Northern Dollars and buying into safe haven assets such as Danzig and Eiffelland treasuries and strong currencies not aligned to the Northern Council memberstates.'' ``While important, this event isn't the beginning of the crisis. We must look before that event, before Bantyr decided to seize NC assets and nationalize its key industries. My research finds that Danzig banks were hired by Bantyr for consultation, on condition of `absolute secrecy', and I have reached the conclusion, based internal documents and emails from the COO of Mendelsohn's for example, that Danzig bankers were deliberately aiming for severe and more importantly, chronic destabilization of the Northern Dollar currency area. This deliberate misinformation on part of Danzig bankers is only a small cog in the wheel set in motion, but the downward trajectory was clear and irreversible. Cyril Trompetier who is also mentioned in the article, took positions against the Northern Dollar two weeks before that news article hit the presses. At one point, his hedgefund, Speed to Market LLC, even became a marketmaker in Northern Dollar net short/short term volatility derivatives. If anything, Mr Trompetier made at least $1.2 billion thaler from the demise of the Northern Dollar.''

A news article from the Breotish News Corporation BNC reveals another important piece of information: ``It was expected that Bantyric currency would quickly lose ground following the governments announcements of seizure of Northern Council properties but it was not expected that the Norther Dollar would be experiencing such pressures. As it is the the international currency of the Northern Council is experiencing its first crisis. Long feared overvalued by some currency traders the rapid escalation of the trade disputed has thoroughly tipped the scales against the young Northern Dollar which is losing value against other major currencies on exchanges. Fearing further devaluation most investors are flocking to the Breotish Pound, the Thaler, and gold is seeing record highs as people try to limit their exposure.'' ``At the heart of this piece lies an important truth: the very fact a small trade conflict could evolve into such an extraordinary currency crisis was unforseen - except some in-the-knows which I have mentioned in my book, chapter 5. However, overvalued does not equate to crash level correction. A trade dispute can be resolved through diplomacy and there was nothing special or serious about the Bantyr-NC trade conflict. I refuse to call it a trade war because there was hardly anything extreme about it. Looking back at the Danzig consultants who ill-advised Bantyr on its economic policy to follow, I have found out that, through several contacts involved in the talks, the trade war was largely engineered by the same individuals responsible for Bantyr's self-defeating, even destructive economic policy.''

``I remember quite well a dinner meeting I had with a retired negotiator working on behalf of Banque AXIS - which executed trades for several hedgefunds deeply involved - where he literally admitted as much to me. I couldn't believe what I heard and the first thing I thought was, `Holy moly! Straight from the horses mouth!', and he continued to explain how the Northern Dollar was destroyed, in great detail. Another delegation from Danzig, another set of banks and lawyers, advised Bantyr and also Warre to instigate `economic warfare' against the Northern Council and default on its debts to `maximize potential harm'. These banks had set aside billions in emergency funding when the Banque Nationale de Danzig opened up its emergency liquidity facilities on May 25th. The money was borrowed to Bantyr and Warre at higher interest rates (Danzig Funds Rate was 0.50% due to the unprecedented currency crisis) thus generating more profit on top of that. To add insult to injury, the Breotish company Shaw Financials purhashed €200 billion worth of NC assets for a low sum of €130 billion. This deal was brokered by Danzig when our banks backed away from the deal and instead focussed on getting Warre and Bantyr, Bantyr in particular, to repay their loans given the untendable situation erupting in both countries. In secret, our banks threatened to pull the rug from under their feet and announce to the Financial Courier newspaper `no emergency funding to the two embattled countries could be agreed upon', instead, `Danzig banks released a private communique to investors in Bantyr debt instruments that `a secret settlement will be reached' adding that `a haircut will only harm Suonia and the Northern Council.'

``By now, we are reaching ground zero for the crash of the Northern Dollar. Non-NC investors were receiving monthly interest payments on grounds of confidentiality which were paid by a Danzig letterbox firm named `Bantyr Movie Productions Inc.' while NC countries were left out in the rain. These assets were traded in invite-only darkpool accounts outside regulatory oversight. NC member states weren't aware of this secretive plan to fire up repayments from Bantyr debt and if they knew, they'd be all over international media. Many investors didn't bother to raise an eyebrow and weren't eager to ask difficult questions. Ask yourself: why would they? Terms of confidentiality prohibited them from doing so - and even if they did decide to ignore the contract, it would've jeapordized the whole scheme. Bottom line was: don't ask questions, receive the money you owed and keep quiet about it. We are talking about pension funds and university endowments and their position depended on their solvability. Which would be severely crippled if they admitted to owning as much Bantyr debt as they did - and cannot tell the outside world they're getting reimbursed by Danzig banks indirectly. Suonia was the first domino to be toppled when its government decided to exit the currency union on October 31st.''

``Clearly, downward pressure from from Danzig banks and the secret repayment plan added to the situation which became more dramatic by the day. The Northern Dollar was no longer a serious currency to contend with, the final collapse came early November when Wiese's news publication ran the story about the looming collapse. By this time it was obvious to all observers and market participants the Northern Dollar was effectively done. But if we look at 10 year benchmark interest rates for Aarendaal, Batavië and Vistrasia we only conclude that despite their economic woes, solvability remained, given the situation, pretty good. That changed when Suonia decided to leave the Northern Dollar and suddenly interest rates of countries mentioned began to rise suddenly and violently. Sunonia escaped the onslaught because it returned to its currency the Kronor. I have investigated the matter and I prove that this move was planned long before and anticipated by traders who were ordered by the superiors to start a collective attack on sovereign bonds to drive down prices by heavy selling. In the end, the Northern Dollar collapsed because its member nations were no longer able to service their debts in Northern Dollars - it would have resulted in hyperinflation, possibly - and were forced by the market to return to their old currency system.''

Cornerstore or embassy? Danzig embassy in Europaland major supplier of `cigarettes, alcohol and pornography' to local consumers

Danzig, 1.15.2012 - A Foreign Office report finds that the last time a diplomatic cable sent from the Danzig embassy in Europaland contained information related to Europaland dates back eight years ago. Surprisingly, the embassy accounts for a vast majority of diplomatic mail. Out of every ten mailbags sent from the Foreign Office in Danzig to their destination, four go to Europaland and are, according to a spokesperson, `stuffed to the tilt' with `alcoholic beverages, dozens of cartons of cigarettes' and even `pornographic material' such as DVDs and magazines. An internal investigation followed when it became known that the Danzig embassy in Europaland was `making lots of money', and `if it were a company, it would be an incredibly profitable business'.

On several bank accounts in Danzig millions were tucked away, allegedly from dutyfree sales of cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and pornography. On the embassy compound, Foreign Office internal affairs even found a `medium sized movie theatre', quality video and editting equipment and a `vast library of all sorts of films'. Access to the embassy was relatively easy and security lax at all times. Since no sensitive diplomatic documents were present at any time during the past eight years, security guards did little and wasted time watching TV, reading books or `selling smokes and booze' from their security booths near the entrance. Paying customers were permitted entry into the movie theatre where pornographic films played twice a day.

The Danzig ambassador to Europaland, Franck Yves Saint Bartholomeu declined to comment.​

Metropolitan Police seen surrounding Europaland embassy in diplomatic standoff

Danzig, 1.16.2012 - LIVE COVERAGE - While the District Attorney's Office of the Burrough of Taft started a preliminary investigation into the alleged criminal conduct of our ambassador to Europaland, Mr Franck Yves Saint-Bartholomeu, violent criminals, socialist revolutionaries and anarchists hellbent on causing trouble, clearly assisted by Europeland's police by not moving in with full force, were able to break into our embassy building and have taken our ambassador along with his staff hostage. The situation intensified when these scoundrels have threatened to murder Mr Saint-Bartholomeu and Europaland's police force seems incapable (or unwilling?) to resolve the situation and bring to a peaceful end. Tensions between Danzig and Europaland began when this newspaper ran a story detailing the activities taking place inside the embassy, which sparked fury and outage both in Danzig and Europaland.

Despite the best intentions of our government and president Unacodego to solve the matter through silent diplomacy, it became obvious today Europaland is following a `strategy of tension', to put pressure on nations through various diplomatic and clandestine operations. Their "Freedom Fund", dedicated to sponsoring international left-wing terrorism is part of this strategy. Europalands promised amnesty for criminals has been met with uncontrollable anger from Danzig politicians. Due to recent events, president Unacodego decided to intervene directly and sidestepped formal diplomatic channels. Around 2000 officers of the Metropolitan Police have swarmed around the Europaland embassy on Walter Ulrich Court, the Danzig embassy district.

President Unacodego did not want to disclose anything that might put the ambassador in harm's way, "Europaland's blatant disregard for diplomacy by sniffing through sensitive and confidential mail was merely a provocation, the occupation and hostage crisis is act two of this unfolding drama. In light of these violations of common courtesy and diplomacy, I convened an emergency meeting with my Ministers of Defense and the Justice Department. Metropolitan Police has been ordered to surround the embassy of Europaland, no traffic, helicopter will be allowed to enter or leave the premise until all criminals are brought to justice in Europaland and when Mr Franck Yves Saint-Bartholomeu and his staff will be free to travel with full respect for diplomatic immunity."​

From your national news outlet we have seen no evidence to support your claim everything was done within your police' power to prevent such a drama from happening. Instead, in our opinion this was done on purpose with a clear target in mind: to attack and humiliate a citystate which prides itself in its capitalist tradition. It also fits a pattern of an insecure nation seeking to requite past wrongs perpetrated by others. This theme of recurring insecurity, insults, false accusations, is beginning to shape up to be the watchword of Europaland's diplomatic tradition. We are within our rights to protect your embassy against all threats - as is our legal obligation. If Europaland wishes to vacate its embassy in Danzig then we shall provide all means necessary for it to be a smooth exit. On a final note, we do not take kindly on hollow phrases and empty threats and Europaland should tread more carefully if it decides to throw unwarranted anger at the world's first and foremost city of international finance. Your conduct, as we believe, might have serious repercussions for the way international investors treat your nation. It would be a most disheartening result of what began as a small diplomatic disagreement.''

Danzig, 1.23.2012 - Aaron Rambot, owner and 3rd generation CEO of the similarly named Danzig jeweller, has released a new set of top-of-the-line cigar and cigarette lighters, fountain pens, paper weights and other articles meant solely for the world's upper class. The set, of which the `Grande Prestige' is the most extraordinary in terms of materials used, will retail for $100,000 thaler and that price will buy you a fountain pen (full platinum body, encrusted with numerous flawless grade A diamonds), a pocket lighter (platinum inlaid with rubies and emeralds to create a `rose garden' effect), cufflinks (platinum, diamonds), a crocodile leather belt (pure platinum belt buckle) and a variety of other luxurious articles.

Other Prestige themes center around Gothic Architecture, Rainforest, Pharao, Danzig, and Aviation. Most extraordinarily, the `Grande Prestige' set is dedicated to no other nation than Europaland. Why, we asked Mr Rambot, who replied, smiling: ``A nation that taxes to oblivion so its citizenry is not permitted to enjoy the finest things in life, such as my masterpieces, to cap personal income at a ludicrous, a petty €M60,000 [around $100,000 thaler] should be honored with humor. That is why I dedicate the Grande Prestige set to that country - as a statement against everything that goes wrong when citizens give their government an amount of power so it can take as much as it needs through taxation to sustain itself.''

Only 1200 sets have been made and all have sold out even before official release and is specially marketed to men. Every piece is handmade by the most experienced employees of Rambot &t Cie. The first set made will be put on display in the Rambot Family History Museum and will become part of the permanent collection.​

I condemn this sickening display of inequality and greed by Mr Rambot. There is no clearer indication of what is wrong with the global capitalist system than rich people wasting €M60,000 on a piece of jewellery while tens of millions struggle to find enough to feed themselves or heat their homes. While Europaland's tax system does indeed serve to keep top wages much lower than in many other countries those at the bottom of the pay scale tend to earn much more. The minimum wage in Europaland is higher than the income of probably 90% of the world's population. We are a country where not a single person lives in poverty and where everyone, as of right, has access to some of Europe's best hospitals, best schools and best universities completely free of charge. For us it's a matter of priorities. Whereas Danzig prioritises the right of the wealthy few to make as much as they want off the backs of working people we prioritise the right of everyone regardless of background to a good and fulfilling life. I certainly know what kind of society I prefer.

Fight erupts at University of Danzig after three foreign students accuse fellows of `racism'

Danzig, 1.24.2012 - Police and university security had to quell a fight that erupted on the university campus after several native Danzig students, allegedly, `ignored' three foreign students and refused to speak in a common language, instead they chose to speak German with each other. Soon after, an argument started between the students who believed `foreigners' have no right to enjoy education in Danzig. Insults and abuse was thrown back and forth and, according to witness testimony, one of the foreigners was first to attack one of the Danzig students. Soon after, University security officers managed to calm down the two parties - the incident drew an audience but was quickly dispersed by university security.

During the fight, radical members of the Student Progress League passed around pamphlets expressing extremist views about society and called for `immediate action' against the `repressive atmosphere' at Danzig's highest bodies of education. These irritants were promptly removed from the university grounds by Metropolitan Police officers who had arrived at the scene.

The Student Progress League is an organisation that promotes left-wing causes in Danzig and abroad. Several students, mostly sympathizers of the group and there were even several members who also attend classes at the university, protested the arrest of the foreign students. They were told all participants were taken to the local police station for questioning. The headmaster, professor Max Mehl said that `institutional racism has no place in our hallowed halls of knowledge, companionship and new ideas.' He promised `the most stringent measures' against the students responsible for the fight but also said that `non-students who were also present on campus' passing around `material of questionable content', are not welcome as they only abuse `small incidents and blow it out of proportion.' Professor Mehl declined further comment.​
