GOVERNMENT TRIES TO CALM TENSIONS WITH FURTHER GREAT SEA WITHDRAWAL

In a likely attempt to respond to international criticism and to calm tensions in the Great Sea the government has announced a significant pull-back of the country's naval presence. Around half of all naval vessels in the Great Sea will be sent back to Europaland while the vessels remaining will be withdrawn so as to be situated no more than half-way between Europaland and Havenshire. According to President Nordahl Engellex has made clear that Europalandian civilian shipping shall not come under attack and that, in the spirit of promoting world peace at a time of continued conflict, Europaland has decided to maintain only a limited naval presence in the Great Sea. Europaland, according to the President, ”stands firmly with working people across Europe who are fed up with violence, militarism and war”, noting that ”liberation cannot be achieved through the gunship, rather it must emerge naturally from the everyday struggles of ordinary people in any given society”. There are indications nevertheless that the government may be split on the issue with all of the ministers from the Revolutionary Left Alliance allegedly pushing for a tougher line while the President and a majority in the Socialist Left appear keen to defuse tensions as much as possible.

Opposition Centre Party leader Jacques Laurent described the decision as a ”wise and sensible step”, commenting that he was ”pleased to see the voice of reason ultimately prevailing within our government”. According to Mr Laurent Europaland should continue to ”stand proudly as a beacon of democracy, human rights and the progressive libertarian values we all share, promoting our model through example rather than the sort of aggressive military posturing which some hotheads within the government have been pushing for”. The reactions from sections of the far left to the withdrawal have unsurprisingly been far from positive. Mass demonstrations in which the flags of countries such as Engellex, Potenza and Kyiv have been burned have continued across Europaland and the police have warned the government about the establishment of small armed groups of anarchist, communist or vanguardist volunteers who may be planning to travel overseas in order to foment trouble. According to Justice Minister Édouard Giraud any member of such groups will be liable for arrest and the possible confiscation of their passport.

FEARS OF MUSLIM ANGER AS FEMINIST ACTIVISTS BURN QURAN, VEIL

Feminist activist burning veil at Europa City demonstration

A controversial protest organised by a group of Uroduah feminist activists in Europa City today attracted several thousand people. The demonstration started with speeches by a number of prominent feminists of Uroduah origin, calling for the liberation of women in their native countries from all forms of oppression and inequality and an end to the religious traditions which have long been used to justify them.

Afterwards a short march was held through the centre of Europa City and culminated in the women burning several copies of the Quran as well as the headscarves and veils which many Muslim women in other countries wear, prompting fears of extremist attacks on Europaland and its interests overseas. According to Rachida Khaled, President of the Association of Uroduah Feminists, the burning of the Quran was aimed at “sending out the message that Uroduah women are sick and tired of having their lives dictated by some ancient and irrelevant man-made text”. The veil was burned because it is, in Ms Khaled's words, a “vile symbol of male supremacy and female submission which must be wiped out before women in our native countries can ever be truly free”.

Around 50 male supporters of radical Islamic groups turned up to shout insults at the protesters, several of whom even threw stones while the Quran was being burned before being surrounded by several hundred feminist activists who apparently knocked them to the ground and kicked, punched and spat on them before handing them over to the police who arrested the men on the spot. Several of the Islamists have now been charged with assault and could potentially face several years in prison if found guilty.

Interior Minister Marie Bertrand strongly condemned the Islamic groups who tried to disrupt the protest, calling them “a tiny extremist fringe who cannot tolerate justified critique against their superstitious, patriarchal beliefs”. According to the minister there is “no place in Europalandian society for those who put religion before absolute gender equality and the right of the oppressed to stand up and fight against their oppressors”. Ms Bertrand went on to note that “there are plenty of backward theocratic regimes these fools can go to if they hate our secular, feminist society so much”.

The right to demonstrate is an important civil right, but the way the feminist activists demonstrated for gender equality in Urudoa was too provocative and therefore counterproductive. This will not help the cause of Islamic women. Especially not the burning of Qurans, a deed which is worth to be condemned in very strong words.

Boliatur has stated that it will continue sanctions as long as a western power supports it, extending a hand towards Europaland in "friendship, peace, and a common enemy in front of us."

I, Delbar Achakzai, Supreme Chancellor of the Second Jurzani Republic and Guardian of the People, do fiercely condemn the actions that have taken place in Europland. This feminist group clearly is plagued by ignorance and intolerance. Public demonstrations does not include the burning of the holy book of the Islamic faith and of our country. The Second Jurzani Republic calls upon the Association of Uroduah Feminists to not only cease these extremely offensive actions, but formally apologize not only to the Jurzani People but all People of Muslim faith.

It is my sincere hope that the Government of Europaland moves to stop these extremely offensive displays of ignorance so that they may never happen again.

We thank Boliatur for its message of friendship and hope for a warm and constructive relationship between our two nations. Boliatur, like Europaland, has thrown off the shackles of tyranny through a popular revolution and the courage of its people has been further highlighted through their strong stance against oppression in Wasatch. There has never been more of a need for all libertarian, post-delegationist and genuinely democratic nations to come together and work for a new and a better world free from all forms of ignorance, prejudice and oppression.

While I understand some of the concerns of Chancellor Delbar Achakzai I must stress that Europaland is a free and democratic society in which people are allowed to protest freely provided they do not interfere with the rights and freedoms of others. As such our authorities cannot and will not act against the burning, as an act of protest, of texts belonging to any religion. Europaland respects the right of all its citizens of Muslim origin and would like to make clear that our government rejects any attempts to portray Islam as an inherently oppressive religion or the Quran as something uniquely negative compared to the books of any other faith. That said I can state as a woman of Uroduah origin that there are real and genuine concerns about the way in which religion has sometimes been used within our community to justify forms of gendered oppression and injustice. These concerns clearly deserve to be heard.

Saida Nasri,
Foreign Minister of Europaland

We will not apologise for this action and feel that burning the Quran was an appropriate form of protest when it has so often been used to subjugate and oppress Uroduah women. We did not mean necessarily to attack Islam or its followers per se but are fed up with its religious texts being allowed to dictate the lives of women particularly in our native countries. No piece of paper written many hundreds of years ago can possibly be considered more relevant today than those universal modern values of human rights, democracy and equality which most Europalandians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds have thankfully subscribed to.

GOVERNMENT STEPS UP MILITARY PRESENCE ALONG BORDER TO STOP SMUGGLING

Guards stand at one of Europaland's official border crossings

In a declaration before the National Assembly earlier today President Nordahl made the surprise announcement that Europaland intends to move to significantly increase the military presence along its borders as well as to increase the funding and resources available to its coast guard. According to the President such a step is needed at a time when the smuggling of drugs and other contraband goods into the country has been increasing: “We have seen drugs and cut-price alcohol flooding into our country in recent months, being transported across our borders and by ships to our beaches. Europaland, which has so far achieved a high degree of success at minimising drug and alcohol addiction among its citizens, is now faced with a possible national health emergency if something drastic is not done. We cannot and will not allow these criminal parasites, whether foreign or Europalandian, to make money off the backs of society's most vulnerable. As such I am deploying the army in large numbers and would like to make clear that criminals and drug-traffickers will be dealt with forcefully and decisively. Those who are armed, and reports lead me to believe that many of them are, will be liable to be shot should they not surrender immediately to our armed forces”.

Although Europaland's long border is generally quite well protected the police have recently reported a significant surge in the amount of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes coming across from Wasatch and Brettaine, much of which has been brought in by organised smugglers and criminal gangs. While some of this passes through official border crossings controls are usually strict with almost everyone undergoing some kind of search. The surrounding terrain though which includes mountains, lakes and thick forest has made it relatively easy to evade the country's border guards, officially part of Europaland's armed forces. In recent decades cameras, sensors and barbed wire fences have been installed in many areas but border guards have still been heavily stretched due to a lack of personnel. The decision of President Nordahl today to more than double the number of troops on the border by sending in the regular army to boost numbers is a significant step and is likely to make things much harder for potential smugglers. The coast guard is also to see its funding increase by 20% over the next year and in the short term other branches of the navy will be brought in to assist them. While some will criticise Ms Nordahl's decision and harsh rhetoric as an act of populist authoritarianism it has been greeted positively by the leaders of all the main political parties.

The chairman has extended a hand of friendship towards Europaland, releasing a small statement on the subject.

"We will cooperate militarily and economically, Boliaturian ships and trade routes will be directed towards Europaland. Solidarity, friendship, integrity, and a deep nationalism shall come from this. To glory shall we go, from across the globe. Steppe to city, ocean to desert, Europalandians to Boliaturians."

The chairman has also offered Europaland several oil barges and off-shore platforms near Boliatur.

I would like to thank Chairman Magleis Nodovinya personally for this kind offer which we accept. Europalandian companies would be happy to expand into the Boliatur oil industry and we will be pleased to open bidding for these platforms. Naturally they will remain under the jurisdiction of Boliatur and pay taxes to the Boliatur government and we hope our companies' expertise can be of help to Boliatur as it further develops this profitable sector.

Our government is interested in building a strong economic and military cooperation with Boliatur and we too will encourage an expansion in trade between our two countries. This will be assisted by the granting of a favoured trading status to Boliatur which means that goods from Boliatur will not be subject to all of the usual tariffs. We will also subsidise the opening of new air routes between Europaland and Boliatur which we hope can help bring our two peoples closer together. As for military cooperation I suggest some joint meetings between our defence ministers to discuss how our two countries can more closely work together in the years ahead. Although far away geographically our nations would I'm sure both benefit from enhanced military cooperation at a time of great instability across Europe. In addition Europaland will grant Boliatur significant discounts should it wish to buy any weapons or military equipment from suppliers based in our country.

The Citizen's Council has allowed Europalandian companies upon the steppes of Boliatur, allowing construction of facilities and other establishments by Europalandian industries by the terms agreed. In another motion, Boliatur has also expressed distress upon the actions of Yujin and hint of hostilities, seeking aid from Europaland in terms of subsidies or weaponry.

Long live us,

Europaland strongly condemns the hostile and aggressive rhetoric emanating from the corrupt and autocratic regime of Yujin and we pledge to give our support Boliatur should it come under attack. In the meantime we would be happy to work with and advise Boliatur in the building up of its defence forces. While we have decided to allow Boliatur to buy arms from our companies at a reduced rate we shall also offer direct aid and long-term loans to help its government and people at this difficult time. Through our contacts Europaland would like to get a better idea of what Boliatur's needs are at this time so we can assist the country more appropriately.

The Republic requires loans towards agriculture and industrialization via infrastructure. The Republic also has requested protective vests, standardized uniforms, and regular infantry weapons for "any future conflict". The Republic eagerly awaits a response.

DULWICH, WEDNESDAY, 28th MARCH 2012

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the Princes, and Chiefs of the State of Europaland.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE PRINCES, AND CHIEFS OF THE STATE OF EUROPALAND
I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

I condemn this aggression, and confidently hope that the wisdom of the Imperial Parliament would permit the authority to her Majesty the Queen-Empress and Cabinet to bring a great limitation, by whatever means, to the intolerable and destructive state of Europaland.

The language of Europaland has long been seen as dangerously arrogant and needlessly offensive to the realms of Europe that do not adhere to perverse and alien character of the feminist regime.

I will not discuss in a public statement how the aggression of Europa City should be met, though, the regime can be sure that the Empire of Great Engellex is now taking the circumstance of Europalandian aggression with more urgency as it appears to not only make target Crown Subjects of the Queen-Empress but also those of the Empire’s partners around Europe, in Wasatch and Yujin.

By the Grace of GOD, of the EMPIRE of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN-EMPRESS, through the SECRETARY of STATE, his Grace the DUKE of NONSUCH

@ Boliatur

The Central Bank of Europaland will offer Boliatur a loan of up to 25 billion Euromarks at 1% interest in order to allow a large-scale modernisation of the country's industry, agriculture and infrastructure. Additional loans may be granted at a higher, but still low, rate. In terms of military support Boliatur will be granted a 40% discount when buying military equipment from Europalandian arms manufacturers. In the meantime our armed forces will provide surplus weapons and uniforms free of charge. 100,000 uniforms, vests and rifles will be made available immediately and shipped to Boliatur along with some more advanced weaponry. We hope this aid will be of great help to Boliatur and will mark only the beginning of a long friendship between our countries.

Saida Nasri,
Foreign Minister of Europaland

@ Engellex

As I have said many times before Europaland does not give in to idle threats from rogue anti-democratic states such as Engellex. Our country, and all other free countries for that matter, will trade with, or impose sanctions on, whatever states it likes and there is nothing Engellex can do about it. The only act of aggression in this case is that emanating from Dulwich and we advise that the Engellexic regime cease damaging its reputation further by inciting hatred, conflict and instability at every possible opportunity.

CITIZEN'S CABINET

Boliatur has granted Europaland exclusive oil trade rights, as well as offering 25 thousand barrels of oil in exchange for the uniform payments. The Citizen's Cabinet is extremely happy and eager to continue the revolutionary friendship forged between our two grand nations, as revolutionary fervor shall begin sentiment in countries as Boliatur wills it. The best and only proper form of government, Post-Delegationism, shall prevail in the name of Boliatur, Europaland, Oikawa, Jurchen, and any other Post-Delegationist revolutionary country. As Europaland wills it, our citizenry will support Europaland peoples to the last drop of our blood. Boliaturian citizenry has taken to begin offering gifts to Europalandians within or visiting Boliatur, and as the agenda of all People of Boliatur has stated, we shall serve Europaland as a faithful ally.

We thank Boliatur for this payment and wish for a long and constructive relationship between our two nations. We also welcome greater economic links and cooperation between the oil sectors of both our countries. Europaland and Boliatur, both being oil-exporting nations, have a lot to gain from working together on this front. Our companies will be happy to extend their activities and investments into Boliatur where the revolutionary government considers this appropriate.

While Europaland is not generally considered to be a post-delegationist state we see many similarities and common interests between Europaland and the post-delegationist nations of Europe. To defeat the forces of tyranny and reaction we must build a strong alliance between all libertarian, democratic and post-delegationist countries. Europaland and Boliatur can hopefully lead the way and provide an example to others of the friendship and solidarity which is fundamental to the construction of a better and a freer world.

EUROPALAND SEEKS NEW ALLIES: WINS CONTRACTS WITH GERMANIAN LEAGUE; ESTABLISHES LINKS WITH BOLIATUR

With the RDTO apparently dead Europaland has, most analysts agree, been moving to expand its relations with other democratic and libertarian states. The fiery socialist rhetoric of the nation's top politicians has been, in many ways, been replaced by talk of democracy, human rights and opposition to all forms of authoritarianism. Where once all capitalist states were presented, at least by some of the more radical members of the cabinet, as the enemy, the government now talks of forming an alliance with the more progressive and democratic of the capitalist countries against what it sees as a hostile axis of autocratic powers led by Engellex. The Engellexic occupation of Montelimar, and Europaland's strong condemnation of it, has without doubt given Montelimar's allies in the EDF reason to look upon the nation in a more positive light and see the common interests they potentially share with Europaland.

In a sign perhaps of improving relations between Europaland and the democratic capitalist states of Europe the nation's largest oil company NordOlje was awarded a key contract by the Germanian League yesterday. The contract relates to the building of a new pipeline in Eifelland, Danmark and Wendmark and is one of the most important awarded to a Europalandian company in recent years. It is thought that worker-owned NordOlje's strong safety record and its reputation for acting ethically helped the company during the bidding process. In other news the new post-delegationist government in Boliatur has, in the face of threats and hostility from Engellex and other rogue states, chosen to seek out economic and military help from Europaland, in return welcoming Europalandian companies into its profitable oil sector. It is hoped that the new partnership will benefit both countries and provide a strong rebuke to the aggressive behaviour of the Engellexic and Yujiner regimes. Despite the ideological difference between post-delegationism and Europaland's libertarian socialism the government appears to see a number of common interests between the two revolutionary ideologies.

According to President Nordahl, in an interview on today's edition of the flagship ERT programme Good Morning Europaland, the most pressing issue facing Europe at the moment is the glaring lack of democracy in key military powers such as Engellex and Kyiv and the willingness of such regimes to repeatedly resort to violence and aggression in order to get their own way. This can only be countered, in the view of Ms Nordahl, through “a strong alliance of all the free peoples and free nations of Europe, united in their opposition to tyranny and oppression and their commitment to the universal values of democracy and human rights”. The alliance should be “military as well as economic” with the “rogue states and enemies of democracy made clearly aware that an attack on one free nation will be considered an attack on all”. The President expressed her desire to include all truly democratic nations in such an alliance, noting that Europaland must “move beyond its traditional socialist allies if we're to work in the long-term interests of a free and peaceful Europe”.
