Dear Europe denizens,
last night we were attacked by hackers from China who managed to temporarily hack the forum and include destructive code into the forum, which could have led to trojan horse infections on user computers. Fortunately, we were able to notice the hack pretty much right after it happened and were able to take counter-measures. Unfortunately, this attack had several consequences:
- For now, the wiki must stay suspended for security reasons. Updates to follow.
- All posts from the last 24 hours were lost. This is unfortunate, but a complete return to a previous backup was necessary to ensure that the forum was not compromised. This also means that all users who registered in the last day will have to register again.
- I cannot guarantee that passwords continue to be secure. Please change your password as soon as possible.
This is an extremely unfortunate event, and I hope that this does not repeat itself. I have blocked Chinese IP addresses from the forum (at least for now) and upgraded the forum to a newer version. There are a bunch of new features, but I didn't bother to check them out yet as this was about addressing a security issue and not introducing new features. Still we are lucky, since this is only the second time in 10 years that we got hacked and seriously compromised.
Thank you for your patience and understanding and stay vigilant for suspicious behavior on the site in the upcoming days in case our hackers return.
