Belmont Military Expansion Worries Juarez Government

Tolede - With the announcement of the Belmontian government of a pact that would allow military forces of the Greater Sarmatian Empire access to Belmontian bases as well as the announcement of the expansion of both Belmont's conventional and nuclear forces, President Fernando Calderón Juarez has met with his cabinet and through a message from the Ministry of External Affairs, has made it clear that the Republic does not see the move as peaceful not purely of defensive in nature, but instead more as a form of intimidation.

Relations Between Francophone Gallians Deteriorates

Tolede - For some time now, diplomatic relations between the governments of Belmont and Lorraine have been sliding down hill with one of the latest senseless disputes being when Belmont complained of a few extra Lorrainian border guards and Lorraine claiming there wasn't and threatened to reevaluate its border policy turned into a diplomatic row that got government from both the EDF and the LFS to comment on it, with each alliance taking predictable sides.

Belmontian Foreign Minister Renaudiere did say though that in the interests of peace and stability that talks be held at a neutral venue, he claims that neither party contacted, Lorraine nor Montelimar, have accepted the offer as of the time of this story.

Any increase, if approved by the National Assembly, should not be seen by Coronado as a threat. Frescania is not looking for a fight and it is just interested in its national security.

Frescania's Treaty of Friendship with Belmont, which is described as similar to the one Belmont has with Greater Sarmatia, and the timing of the announcement so soon after the Belmontian announcement of it own expansion of its armed forces, especially its nuclear force, has given the government of Coronado cause to be cautious of Frescania's motives.

The People's Republic of Vangala views Western militarisation efforts as unnecessary and potentially dangerous for our friends in Coronado. We will continue to monitor the situation and call for Belmont, Frescania and others to stop increased defence spending and production.

Paris Issues Ultimatum to Toledo

Toledo - After the Minister of External Affairs, Sr. Carlos Mendez, charged Paris officials of being duplicitous in the document leaks that falsely implicated Coronado in the assassination attempt on Premier Matinique, and stating that such action was one of a coverup, the government of Belmont issued a 24 hour ultimatum demanding an apology otherwise "considerations will have to be made". Mendez responded that there would not be an apology and also a warning that Coronado does "not respond to threats lightly".

Ultimatum From Paris Not Taken Lightly
After being informed of the ultimatum from Paris, President Fernando Calderón Juarez immediately ordered a bulstering of internal security personnel along the northern border.

President Juarez did comment that "...being that this government had nothing to do with the attempt on the life of Primier Martinique, we can only reason that there is something nefarious behind the Paris attempt to implicated the Socialist Republic in the deed."

Not surpising, Coronado's application for membership in the CoN, along with those of New Paristan, Jurzan and the Judean Republic, were all vetoed by the Empire of Oikawa preventing all four governments their rightful voice in the General Assembly of the international organization.

CORONADO DEFENCES PLACED ON HIGH ALERT
Coronado Falsely Accused In Assassination Plot; Paris Cuts Diplomatic Ties With Toledo

Toledo - After what has been termed as an "outrage" by Exterior Minister Mendez when Paris accused Toledo of being behind the attemted assassination of Premier Martinique, and still after the Republic of Judea released evidence of Coronado's innocence in the Plot, the Kingdom of Belmont proceeded to cut diplomatic ties with the Socialist Republic by ejecting Coronadan diplomats and recalling their own. Though such a move is not uncommon where Belmont is concerned, as severing tie is the usual Belmontian knee jerk reaction, Toledo is not taking chances with the untrustworthy government in Paris. President Juarez, upon being notified of the diplomatic move by Paris ordered military and civil defence placed on high alert and prepare for any eventuality until ordered to stand down. Though such the alert places the military as well as the civil defence into high gear, this is what both have trained extensively in for the past five decades as the threat from Belmont has always been at the forefront of Coronado's military and civilian planners.

Though some believe it is just another of Belmont's bluffs, President Juarez is not and has had all foreign embassies in Coronado contacted to alert them of the situation and to inform them that Coronado's military and civil defences have been placed on high alert and the facts for the actions. The foreign delegations have been informed that they need to take appropriate precautions and to notify their governments that their safety is of a high priority of the government of Coronado.

The malign influence of the League of Free States is evident in the belligerence and hostility shown by Belmont towards Coronado. The People's Republic of Vangala is gravely concerned by the threat posed by Belmont to Coronado's national security and suggests bilateral discussions at the highest level to consider possible solutions.

The RSC has expressed such belief that there is a great deal of LFS influence upon Belmont and agree that there should be discussion between our governments concerning the matter.

PRESIDENT ACCEPTS TELORA/NORTHERN COUNCIL AS MEDIATORS FOR PEACE NEGOTIATIONS
Ceasefire Ordered Along Front; Military Forces Will Remain On Full Wartime Alert

Toledo - After announcement by the government of Belmont of their decision to enact a unilateral ceasefire was skeptically received by Toledo and allies, a communique was recieved by the Ministry of External Affairs from the Secretary-General of the Northern Council, Hans-Erik Rasmus, inviting the Socialist Republic of Coronado to sit down and negotiate a Teloran/Northern Council mediated peace with the Kingdom of Belmont. Though there has not been any release of what conditions were discused for such a meeting to take place, it is known that President Fernando Calderón Juarez has authorized Minister Carlos Mendez to accept the invitation and has ordered a ceasefire to show that the government of Coronado is sincere in its acceptance of the mediation.

The government and citizens of the United Territories embrace these talks as a first stepping-stone towards peace between these two civilized nations who have only more to lose than gain if this bizzare conflict were to continue. We trust they will resolve these differences like grown diplomats.

It is a relief that President Juarez and his government has committed to an end to hostilities through civilized negotiation rather thanprolong an unwarrented war in order to seek retribution on the battlefield.

Civilized is one word for it, humane is what I would perfer to call it. There are those nations that claim to be civilized societies with civilized governments, but some of those governments react on baser instincts, such as lashing out at those that they do not agree with, or, as in the case of the government of Belmont, try to destroy those they cannot control or intimidate, for it is those that they fear the most. We of Coronado did not start the war, but when we are given the oppertunity to end it rather than prolong it, we choose to end it. We will bury our dead and mourn their loss, but unlike those in Paris who ordered the attack that took their lives, our hands will not be stained with the blood of the innocent.

Toledo Prepares For Arrival Of Vangalan President

Toledo - With the country still mourning its dead, security still high in the capital and External Affairs Minister Carlos Mendez at the headquarters of the Northern Council in Hilversum, Batavië, negotiating the end to the war, President Fernando Calderón Juarez will be meeting with Vangala's President Moheen Chatterjee at the Presidential Palace in Toledo. Though what the subject matter of the meeting will be has not been revealed, it is expected that due to the fact it was postponed because of the war with Belmont, what was originally on the agenda may likely be overshadowed by new subjects that are directly related to the war.

"The Governments of the Kingdom and the Socialist Republic are involved in a series of intensive dialogue in Hilversum and as such the timing of the visit by President Chatterjee is concerning. We are at a critical juncture and we do hope that this visit is not exploited by anyone to derail the delicate negotiations."

> Coronado Advocates An Independant Bombaim
While the governments of Anglyn and Khalistan, with the later actually being supported in this by Vangala, argue over which country should own the canton of Bombaim, a former Khalistani city that has been under Anglysh rule for centuries, the Socialist Republic of Coronado has publically advocated that Bombaim should become a free city, under it own rule, and not be given over to Khalistan to be ruled by a monarch in far off Lahore, or remain subject to the rule of a monarch in even further away in Winchester. The people of Bombaim are neither Khalistani nor Anglysh and they should not allow their city to be used by the governments in Winchester and Lahore like some prize to be won or lost with little concern for their well-being. It is the people of Bombaim, the people who it will effect the most, who should be the ones to determine the future of their own city.

Chief Minister,
Bombaim

I must disagree with the statement that we in Bombaim are not Anglysh. Under the Overseas Territory Act of 1953, citizens of Bombaim became citizens of Anglyn with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities such citizenship entails. For the Coronado government to declare we of Bombaim are not Anglysh can only be seen as an attempt to deny us our rights as citizens of Anglyn.

Though I disagree with the statement denying we are Anglysh, I can agree that it is we of Bombaim that should and will decide the future status of our city. Under the Bombaim Constitution by Order of 1959, Bombaim is part of His Majesty’s dominions and His Majesty’s Government have given assurances to the people of Bombaim that Bombaim will remain part of His Majesty’s dominions unless and until an Act of Parliament otherwise provides, and furthermore that His Majesty’s Government will never enter into arrangements under which the people of Bombaim would pass under the sovereignty of another state against their freely and democratically expressed wishes.

The Socialist Republic has its doubts that many of the people of Bombaim would agree with the Chief Minister's appraisal of their feeling toward being called Anglyshmen as I am certain that they feel themselves to be better. What I am happy to hear though is that it would be the people of Bombaim's decision on what direction their city will take, so I know you would be supportive of their wishes to be free of their colonial past and embrace a free and independant future.

> Government Doubts Cantigny Motives
Though Toledo agrees with the idea of independence of what is seen as holdovers of colonialism, places such as Bombaim, Tangaloa, Wightland, Cedar, Abalach, Karoskland and Zedar-Istrian, just to name a few, the Commonwealth of Cantigny has only concentrated its campaign on the Anglysh holdings of Tangaloa and Bombaim and have suspiciously ignored the colonial holding of those nations it has alliances with, including its own mother country, Engellex. Though the government of Coronado advocates the independence of all those mentioned, and more, the Cantigny government's being so selective in their call for independence has Toledo questioning the stated motives and seeing it more as new form of imperialism, one ochestrated by Cantigny, but backed, not only by Engellex, but also by the Pasila Accord.

> Last Of Coronado Diplomats Leaves Sereniérre
With the Villesen cutting diplomatic ties with Toledo last month, the last of Coronado's embassy staff and their dependents have been evacuated ending decades of what has been considered close Trans-Oceanic ties. Any future diplomatic contact will likely go through Carentania, which Sereniérre still maintains limited diplomatic relations with.
