“You know what they say about there being no atheists in a foxhole?” Sheryl-Lynn asked William MacLeod, “Well I think the same may have happen to me out there, Will.”

The experience of true helplessness outside of a test, from her perspective at least, had finally cracked the foundations of her world view. The Engellachians would have left her there to die merely to avoid entanglement, and she was now genuinely considering aborting the mission voluntarily or seeking a way out.

“I’ve heard of the men and women in Human Commodity finding Nativism in their service, but even if it was only a few days for me I realized somewhere in that darkness that I love you, and that . .” Sherry stumbled with her words, “I needed a reason to continue through the illness and the ordeal and realized, and that . . William, I want you to introduce me to your Catholicism. I do not feel the presence of Christ or anything really - but I want to!”

With an IV running in her arm and covered in the local hospital gown; Sheryl-Lynn felt and looked like a sad sack. She hoped this ordeal had endeared her to William, because it certainly did for her to him.

“I knew from the evening I met you that you were capable of great things, Will” Sherry stressed, “Perhaps I have nudged you into becoming who you are a bit. I mean: you saved me, you introduced yourself as an asset to your country, and soon you will lead your clan through a nationwide re-alignment after what you said happened to Mister Robert.”

Sherry reached her hand out with the arm anchored down by an IV, “I followed you here, and I’ll follow you anywhere darling. Will, I’m sorry for everything, please take me with you?” Sherry pleaded with tears welling up in her eyes.
