Jag Niwas Palace

The large lakes of Itanagar were man made centuries long ago and were one of the main attractions of the city. Slowly building damns and large earthen works over the few centuries has created a scenic paradise that largely was known to those who know as a resort playground for the rich and powerful. Such was the Jag Niwas Palace; built on one of the few islands in the middle of the largest lake by the local raja as a pleasure palace, secluded from the prying eyes. Now it was one of the many palaces part of the Crown Properties and served as the playground fro the imperial family and government officials. However, now it was cleaned and prepared for a different purpose.

Minister of State, Ahimsa Mayur, waited for her guest to arrive. Minister Mayur was a veteran of the diplomatic service and as a woman in the Varanasese government she had to be ruthless. Thirty years of cunning, manipulation, conniving tactics, and assassination, allegedly that is. It was even whispered in the halls of the Privy Council that she was responsible for the untimely death of her General husband; rumors, or were they. The ruthlessness gave Smt. Mayur a reputation that preceded her in many situations in Varanasi, and let anyone know she was not a person to cross.

Lily Pond

Now Minister Mayur waited out by the palace's Lily Pond where a small table and a set of chairs had been placed next to the pond. A butler informed her that their guest would be arriving by speed boat within 30 minutes. Ahimsa would be meeting with the Eiffellander Chancellor on a prospective partnership. The former colonizer and the former colonized to work together for the benefit of both.

Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz was a 58 year old man who had managed to keep himself in shape. Despite his long working days, he did sports every day. As a result, he still had an athletic body, especially for somebody of 58 years old. His black hair was already turning grey, but still in a manner that it was charming. His rise to power was far less spectacular than the rise to power of his counterpart. He spoke seven languages, among others Hindi. As always, he was wearing a dark grey suit. He always wore white shirts, also today. His tie was dark blue with some lighter blue stripes, all from upper left to lower right. His shoes were black and well-polished. All in all, he was a charming and handsome man with good manners and a sense of humor.

When the speedboat arrived at the palace, he energeticly stepped out at the quai and waited for Minister Mayur.

A valet greeted the Eiffellander Chancellor when he stepped from the craft. "Mr. Chancellor the minister is waiting this way." The valet motioned for the german politician to follow him through the palace to the courtyard with the pond.

"Chancellor von Seydewitz welcome to Itanagar, I hope your travel was pleasant." Minister Mayur greeted Von Seydewitz. Ahisma took her seat at the small table set for them. A butler poured them both tea and after taking a sip Mayur continued. "It appears the decisions and aggressive actions of Ivar has become a threat to the region. In these troubling times old bonds must be repaired and nurtured so that we may meet the challenges of the day together from a position of strength and unity for the region."

“Indeed, I had a very good journey. Thank you, Your Excellency,” Von Seydewitz replied, using the Eiffellandian official form of adress for a minister.

He thanked the butler for the tea, like he would also do in Eiffelland. Eiffelland was more a coffeecountry than a teacountry, but given the historic ties between Varanasi and Eiffelland, tea was also drunk quite often. Von Seydewitz enjoyed the Varanasese tea as much as he enjoyed coffee. He was also glad that the Minister had decided to serve tea instead of alcoholic beverages. Drinking while working is generally frowned upon in Eiffelland, and apart from that Eiffellandians are no big drinkers. As a result, alcohol generally establishes an effect in Eiffellandians quite soon, sooner than in people from other countries.

“Indeed, also we are extremely worried about Kadikistan’s recent actions. Not only in our region, but also in the North. Of course you know about what’s currently happening in Ivernia, and of course you know about the Kadikistani threat against Karintia-Harkány. This means that Kadikistan is currently becoming a global threat. Not only our region is in danger, but also the region around the North of Kadikistan.” Von Seydewitz took a sip of his tea. Then he continued.

“As you also know, the governments of Cumbria and Ivernia are asking for a global boycott of Kadikistan, and they ask that with much emphasis. To be precise, with so much emphasis that an answer is required. We haven’t taken a decision in that yet, because we have doubts whether such a boycott could work. We think a carrot‑and‑stick method would work better. However, in the case of Kadikistan, the stick will have to be a very strong one.” Von Seydewitz took another sip of his tea. Then he continued.

“According to us, Kadikistan can only be contained when it knows that it will loose the upcoming battle. Therefore, it is important to show strength, and to make clear that you will act at a certain moment. But on the other hand, it is also important to allow the country a retreat without too much loss of face. We also believe that isolating the country is not the right way.” Von Seydewitz paused for a moment. Then he continued.

“Regarding the strong stick I referred to, I think it is needed that we cooperate in this matter. Indeed, it is also our wish to strengthen our ties with your respectable country.”
