International Commission to start the investigation

After the events unfolding in the Long Sea and Auraria, the commission made of representatives of the Galindian Union, Kingdom of Eiffelland, Empire of Volkova and the Confederacy of Heroquoia will start it's investigation by analyzing the documents brought forward by the Empire of Sikandara and the United Communes of the Aurarine State. The commission was formed after two events, the sinking of a ship in Sikandari Waters that brought with it the end of the lives of 150 Sikandari refugees and an attack on the Sikandari embassy in Solis. In an attempt to avoid the escalation of the tensions between the Long Sea nations and with this to avoid an open war that would most likely have devastated much of Southern Gallo-Germania and also disrupted the oil shipments from Sarmatia and Himyar to the West and North, Chancellor Emil Duerr has brought together representatives of a series of neutral countries that solve the issue and the crisis.

In it's initial form, the Chancellor also invited the Grand Duchy of Bourgogne in the commission, but after criticism from Auraria, it was decided that Bourgogne would be a partisan against the Socialist State because of it's war against a communist guerrilla in the Green Peninsula. With both nations agreeing on the structure of the commission and also handling over the necessary documents, by tomorrow their work will start.

"We hope that this involvement of the international stage in avoiding wars and crises can become a positive precedent so that we can develop dialogue. All that we know is that a ship bearing 150 communist refugees from Sikandara was sunk, with the Aurarines reporting that the Sikandari fleet fired upon it. We need to find out who was the one who did it, who was on the ship and what were their motives. As for the embassy attack, it's the same. If we are to find out who orchestrated those attacks and thus find out who is behind a potential war in the Long Sea region," declared the chairman of the commission, Aliza Bachman, State Secretary of the Jewish Autonomous Territory.

We would request the international commission to include the sinking of the three Sikandari vessels on 30th of May, which resulted in the loss of 190 humanitarian aid workers, which is also a very controversial and most tragic occurrence. The fact that the Aurarine Government has expressed strong sentiments against the Bourgogne and its operations in the Green Peninsula, coupled with the fact that these three ships were headed to that part of the world, gives us grounds to suspect Aurarine involvement in this attack. If the commission fails to investigate this matter, it will surely be a slap in the face of the sacrifice of these brave 190 men and women.

Fact of the matter is that the accusations against Sikandara - being responsible for the sinking of the Sikandari refugee ship - still stand and that ample evidence has been brought forward by the Aurarian government that supports this theory. The attempts by Sikandara to include the unfortunate but unrelated incident in the Long Sea into this investigation are a very transparent strategy to muddle the issue and manouver Sikandara from a position of suspect into the position of victim. We do not think that misdirected sympathy should be the guiding principle of an international investigation, as much sympathy as we ourselves may have for the lives lost and their friends and families.

We urge this commission of bourgeoise states not to fall victim to this ploy and risk what little legitimacy they have.

Speech against Burgundian colonialism

A member of the Radical Republican Union, Bettina Habich, held a speech today in the Gross Republikaner Parlament condemning the war waged by the Duchy of Bourgogne in the Green Peninsula. The subject of the War in Green Peninsula has been brought again to attention after the Duchy was banned from participating in the international investigation regarding the sinking of the refugee ship and the attack on the Sikandari Embassy in Solis. The Duchy's participation was rejected based on it's involvement in the War in the Green Peninsula against the communist guerrillas fighting for liberation.

The Burgundians were condemned in the speech of Bettina Habich for bringing the war and destruction to the western Himyari Peninsula. The senator, representing Hermannstadt's 3rd college in the Vereignte Senat, stated that the Grand Duke and his government should stop the rhetoric condemning the communist militias.

"The so called guerrillas are in reality forces fighting for liberation against the Gallo-Germanian imperialism. The fact that the government of Burgundia states that in the 1960s they will retreat shows against the typical arrogance of the colonial oppressor. It is clear by now, that the Burgundians call the liberation army as being a minority, when the Burgundian themselves through coercion and oppression, have dwindled the ranks of the communist supporters. One thing is clear. They are condemning the people of the Green Peninsula just because they want to be independent and call it a move of the minority which wants to takeover the power. The truth is that the only minority there that wishes to keep the power, not take it over, is the francophone white minority of Burgundian descent. To all this criticism, the Burgundians answer with the elections that will take place in 1960. The problem is that the Burgundians are not the ones who should be organizing and patronizing the natives of Himyar. They have no right to be there. I approve of the words of the Carentanian commissar and say that the Burgundians wouldn't have started the decolonization process if there would have been a popular resistance, or how they call it, a <minority group fighting for power>. If the communists wouldn't have fought, maybe we would have seen the Burgundians leaving only in 2060 or even later," declared Bettina Habich.

New Military Unit Created with the Goal to Defend the Jewish Territory

The Jewish Autonomous Territory will be getting it's first military unit for it's defense. Each republic inside the Union has a military force that works in parallel with the Galindische Landeswehr, sometimes called the United Army. The Saare Autonomous Republic was the first to have the Saari Maavagi created as a force made exclusively for Saare citisens. They were followed by the Germans and the Selonians and now the turn has come for the Jewish Autonomous Territory. The new military unit, will be attached to the 3rd Army, which is posed to defend the Puurmani Isthmus, on the eastern border.

News regarding the investigation

Aliza Bachman, the chairwoman of the International Commission presented the first results of the investigation. By analyzing the Sikandari documents and the ship itself, the first conclusion regarding the ship sinking with the 150 refugees has been published: The ship was in fact a fishing trawler that was used by the Sikandari communist refugees to escape the country and try to reach at least Eiffelland, if not Carentania or Auraria. The ship seems to have capsized during a storm and hit a series of rocks close to the shore that destroyed parts of the hull that being the damage that the Sikandari services described in their documents as possibly being torpedo damage.

It is apparent to us that the Honorable Bettina Habich is clearly out of touch. First of all, the plan for elections and independence has been in place since 1955. This plan was put together with native representatives who were appointed by natives; not Bourgogne. The assumption that elections would not have occurred without an attempted coup by communist rebels is utterly and bleakly wrong. Despite being widely public for some time, Member Habich is apparently totally unaware as to Burgundian policies. We are taking systematic steps to help build an independent nation with primary leadership being given by native representatives. Native Peninsulars have been taking over government offices from the Health Office to Civic Planning. Next year, Native Peninsulars are scheduled to take over police and fire services, power and water, and the transport office. The decolonization process has been taking place much longer than the rebellion which only started last year. In 1960, the Green Peninsula will hold elections. We will support whichever party wins, regardless of ideology. Colonial Burgundy is over. The rhetoric being applied is riddled with factual inaccuracies and an apparent lack of understanding. When elections take place in 1960, Bourgogne will not have a hand in them apart from applauding the victors. It would appear to us that Member Habich is disconnected with the very reality that exists.

Given recent revelations in respected international papers, contradictory to the statements made by Chairwoman Bachman, the Sikandari Government expresses its serious doubts on the efforts of the International Commission. The conflicting statements lead us to believe either the Commission is most incompetent or the goal of the Commission to simply pacify the parties rather than investigate the truth.

We request an immediate response from Ms. Bachman to clarify her position and that of her Commission.

OOC: I know you have your exams, it doesn't need to be an immediate response, but I had to word it like that to sound pissed.

International Commission for the Long Sea

The Commission is more than distressed by the comments coming from the Empire of Sikandara. We would be saddened to find out that the Empire of Sikandara would call us incompetents because the preliminary conclusions of the sinking of the trawler, especially because it's not the same as they hoped to be. As much as we understand that both Sikandara and Auraria want the other one to take the complete blame and in this process each would be even ready to delegitimize the International Commission and the states which have representatives in it, we wish that such things do not take place anymore.

If Auraria and Sikandara are just in a race to argue with each other and don't want to cooperate, then this commission shouldn't exist, because it's clear that both governments want war. If not, instead of barking at each other, we should think at how this crisis can be resolved, the best and most important answer being through cooperation. For that, we would ask that representatives from both sides would meet in a neutral spot, Selburg or Trier, and present each other's evidences, while the commission will now concentrate on the attacks on the Sikandari Embassy in Solis.

We would invite to the summit the members of the commission from Heroquoia, Volkova and Eiffelland. We would also like to invite in the commission a representative of the Kingdom of Grosslausitz.

Signed,
Chairwoman of the Comission,
Aliza Bachman

Upon reviewing the initial report released by the International Commission, the Government of the Aurarine State is shocked that torpedo blasts could be mistaken for rock damage. The Aurarine Government cannot and will not accept such a blatant disregard for the truth. The vessel was struck and sunk, this we know. There are clear distinctions between a torpedo’s blast and damage from ocean rock.

If this is the conclusion of several of the world’s nations, then the Aurarine State sees the futility of the international commission more clearly than ever. That being said, we must deny the Galindian Union’s request to host a summit between the Aurarine State and the Empire of Sikandara.

The Imperial Government sees the need for dialogue and for a more direct approach with regards to the investigations of the ICLS. We accept the invitation for such a summit. However, we do not believe that either Selburg or Trier provide the kind of discretion or neutrality that is required for the governments of Auraria or Sikandara to meet. We suggest the summit takes place in Grosslausitz.

International Commission for the Long Sea

As the Aurarine State hasdeclared that it finds the existence of the commission as being futile the Galindian members think that the investigation cannot move forward and have to retreat. The Commission will not be disbanded as there are still members from Volkova, Eiffelland, Heroquoia and recently the Kingdom of Grosslausitz. We hope that the fight for peace may continue so that the Long Sea will not be soaked with the blood of young innocents that are sent to war on an ideological and imperialistic basis.

The fact that the Aurarine State has continuously criticized the very existence of this commission and maybe with it the very notion of peace in the Long Sea. Maybe it even wanted to war with the Empire of Sikandara, we don't know, we do not accuse them of doing so, but their behavior regarding the activity of the commission has clearly shown this. From now on, the Galindian Union resigns from the Commission and hopes that the fight for peace may continue and that the summit would be a success.

Signed,
Aliza Bachman,
State Secretary of the Jewish Autonomous Territory

The Imperial Government is most disheartened to see the Galindian Union withdraw from the ICLS. The effort to resolve this issue by consensus among the international community was a very good move by the Galindian government and their departure is most unfortunate for the efforts of all civilized nations who desire peace in the world. The Empire of Sikandara is committed to pursuing a policy of dialogue and openness with the ICLS and shall hope that the Commission continues with its noble work.

The Imperial Government further commends Ms. Bachman for her work as Chair of the ICLS and wish her well as she returns to her work as State Secretary.

SENATVS POPVLVSQVE TIBVRANVS
RES PVBLICA TIBVRANA - MINISTERIVM DE RERVM EXTERNARVM

MMVIII MAIVS MMXV - PVBLICA CONSTITVTIONIS

The Senate and the People of Tibur are most concerned at the recent developments. Instead of accepting the findings of the International Commission both sides were to quick to fall back to their own theories, rejecting the commission and accusing its member of incompetence. It would seem that both merely pretended to support it to enchance their image in others' eyes, in a popularity contest, while in reality they never had any willingness to truly compromise and accept that either one of them or both could have been wrong in their initial accusations.

With this most condemnable and belligerent attitude they forced the Union of @ , an exemplary state of international pacifism, diplomacy and bloodless, impartial settlement to withdraw from the very comission that it had spearheaded. With all this, along with the other statements and aggressive moves taken by both sides like enchanced fleet patrols in international waters and the armament of civilian ships, one could come to a single logical conclusion: both sides are gearing for war. They want, no they crave it.

And let us tell both sides, as a state that has been on this beloved, beautiful Sea for much longer than theirs, anytime a war has occured in this Long Sea of ours it has engalfed all nations in it and many beyond, leaving behind it an endless trail of blood, pain, fear and destruction and an endless cycle of hate and injustice. And we have no desire to be part of such a conflict, but we shall also not allow others to start one that shall surely engulf us too.

It is for this reason that we request, nay we beg, that both sides reconsider their stance and accept the findings of the International Commission or, should they fail to get over their prides and egos, to at least truly work towards peace in this summit of theirs instead of angrily ranting in parallel monologues and repeating the same baseless accusations at one another, with no care for the consequences of their actions to the average man and woman of both their nations and the Long Sea as a whole. To those whom it concerns within the Edessine Empire

The Commissariat for Foreign Affairs, under the direction of the People’s Council of Commissars and the blessings of the Workers, would like to remind the Edessine Empire that neither the United Communes nor the world has anything to gain from the failure of the International Commission tasked with uncovering the truth relating to what occurred on the night of May 29, 1955.

Yes, the United Communes was concerned with the impartiality of the commission, but an agreement was made. The concerns were addressed and dealt with. Then, the Commission delivered its first report declaring that the sunken ship was the result of mal weather and rocks. This conclusion cannot possibly be substantiated by any nation, regardless of their end goals or biases. This conclusion would demonstrate that the Commission is more concerned with the quick resolve of the situation in the Long Sea than it is for the truth and justice for the fallen refugees. Auraria shall not rest until the refugees’ murderers have been accounted for.

On another note, we would like to address the Edessine Empire’s accusation that Auraria is committed to a war path. The United Communes finds it particularly insulting that the Edessine Empire would act as though Auraria is foreign to the idea of war and the pain it causes. Many of our citizens have fathers that have fought and died to free them from the whims of capitalists, priests, and aristocrats. Since the Workers have gained power in our land, our nation has not been involved in any major war.

That being said, the United Communes rejects the ridiculous accusation that we are seeking a war with the Empire of Sikandara. We would hope that Monarchist, Capitalist blood thirst would hold itself at bay while rational minds complete the investigation.

The Opening of the Imavere - Vendra railway. A future for the north

Chancellor Emil Duerr visited yesterday the Imavere Railway Station together with the Minister for Transportation, Cord Raske as they participated in the opening of the Imavere-Vendra Railway. The two ministers have cut the ribbon on the 4th line of the Imavere Rail Station, where the first train was being prepared to leave towards Vendra, in the northernmost point of the Union. The ministers traveled by train to Vendra and after the ceremony that took place there, were taken back by plane, to Selburg.

Vendra was originally a village of fishers and trappers, then in the late 1890s, nickel and palladium were discovered on the premises and the government organized a series of labor camps inhabited by the political prisoners of the 1907-1916 military regime of General Sternberg which were obliged to work in the nickel and palladium mines. When the regime fell in 1916, the political prisoners were released, but the new democratic republic still kept the camps as a prison. Up until 1945, people who were condemned to life imprisonment or condemned to death could have worked 15 years in the Vendra mines. In time, the camps transformed in a city and since 1945, people came to work in in the mines. Usually people stay in Vendra between 5 to 15 years and when they earned enough money, they leave back to the south, as the average salaries are nearly triple in the Vendra Seat than in the other regions in the country, because of the danger bonuses and the polar bonuses.

"The industry of the Saare Autonomous Republic will surely receive a powerful boost with the opening of this railway. We hope that the city of Vendra will develop even more and now we can easily transport all the ores by railway from Vendra to Selburg and from there by ship, instead of working with the port of Vendra, which is frozen nearly 8 months during the year," stated Chancellor Emil Duerr.

There have been calls by the victims of the Sternberg regime to end the works on the railway and the operations in Vendra, but it has fallen on death ears. The Hermannstadt - Ivernia project was also a railway that was planned to be built by the government, but the apparition of the extreme right-wing regime in Caladbolg has ended the project, leaving a huge railway station in Hermanstadt which is serviced by around 15 trains a day and railways going for 40 kilometers to the west, ending in wilderness.

Selburg prepares for the All-Union Congress of Citizens

Selburg, the capital of the Union is preparing for the 29th All-Union Congress of Citizens. The congress, which will be held on the 27th-28th of June, takes place on a yearly basis since the founding of the Union, in 1925. More than 15,000 thousand people are expected to arrive, this time the Congress taking place on the Roman Holtzknecht Football Stadium, on the coast of the sea. What has been called 'The Congress Village', the complex of apartments and houses owned by the government and built in 1930 especially for this occasion are being prepared for the delegates. The complex is usually rented to other people during the year, with the exception of the month of June, when the delegates live in the apartments. Usually the contracts for renting the apartments by average people are lasting from July to May in the next year, so that in June the complex can be renovated and to provide accommodation for the delegates.

The 29th assembly will be centered around the possible election of a new chancellor, or the continuation of the term of Chancellor Emil Duerr, the civil war in Ivernia and maybe for the first time since the revolution, a possible approach called by Post Delegationist Ideologues with Communism, after the events in the Long Sea and the Red Scare from Sikandara.

"The Congress can even be described as being the heart of the People's Democracy. We have more than 15,000 delegates coming from all over the country that are joined by nearly a thousand of foreign observers and their aides. Even if the world's attention along the equator is attracted to the Long Sea Region where Sikandara and Auraria and Carentania are close to face off in a violent manner and Ivernia is in a civil war, maybe the most important event of the congress will be the vote regarding the post of Chancellor. Even if our dear colleague, Emil Duerr has advised the Galindian people for more than three years competently, he has been criticized for his moderate views in foreign affairs, especially for his inaction regarding the plight of the republicans in Ivernia. It will be hard for him to remain in office, as for more than a year three important persons have been campaigning against him. Those being, Bettina Habich, the radical who recently have given a speech against Burgundian Colonialism in Hermannstadt, Aliza Bachman, a moderate who chaired the Long Sea International Commission and Pavuls Pavulans, the supreme commander of the Selonian Landeswehr and the first Selonian to be considered a favorite candidate since Kristap Ozolinsh," stated Jan Stoppelbein, political analyst.

Galindian magistrates meet with Carentanian Commissars

The Magistrate of Foreign Affairs, Rudiger Holst has met in the last week with representatives of the Workers' Republic of Carentania. As the Carentanian Public Broadcasting have already presented it, the main subject of discussion was the civil war in Ivernia and the offensive of the government against the Vedrarfjord Commune. But the presence of not only Chancellor Emil Duerr to the discussions, but also the Magistrate of Research, Yvonne Kuntz and Wiebke Steinmann, one of the contemporary chief ideologues of Post Delegationism has brought to the attention of the people the fact that there were more subjects on the table, than the Ivernian Civil War.

As the meetings concluded both Galindia and Carentania have expressed their beliefs that the War in Ivernia may end through negotiations and not through blood. Nothing more has been officially said regarding the other two presences in the meetings. There are though some people that believe that the presence of Yvonne Kuntz in the meetings may mean that the Galindian
Weltraumforschungsinstitut, the Institute of Space Exploration may join the Rijeka based European Cosmonautical Union. As for the presence of Wiebke Steinmann, there are many who propose the potential ideological union between Council Communism and Post Delegationism, as Colleague Steinmann is renowned as a Carentanophile. The divide between the two ideologies appeared after the Communists were describing the economy as the primary factor developing the supra-structure, whereas the Post Delegationists were presenting the fact that the political and governmental stage is the first one, from which the economy and supra-structure are developed.

National - Corporatist terror cell suppressed

Pennsans - Votadinia Prefecture

The Woad Guard's Division of Internal Counterespionage has suppressed a National - Corporatist terror cell in Pennsans. The National Army of Celtic Reunification and Rejuvenation (NACRR) is considered to be the military wing of the extreme right and populist party The Celtic Union. The party, classed as a terrorist movement in 1953 has gone underground and has developed a cult following within both the disenfranchised low classes, especially in the mining communities of Votadinia and Maetaia but also in some of the students and the intellectuals from Dumnonia and the capital of the union, Naoned. The calls of the party, to rejuvenate the Celtic spirit that "once brought greatness to Gunnlandia", to create a political and cultural union between Caledonia and Ivernia and to cleanse the Caledonian society of the "unwanted waste and degradation brought forward by capitalism, liberalism and socialism" seems to have touched the hearts of idealists that think that the only way forward may be through the complete political monopoly of the National - Corporatist ideology.

Until the attacks from 1954, the attraction that National - Corporatism had for the youth of the union has been seen as youthful bravado, but when in March 1954 a police captain called Santo Map Trave was killed in Truru, it was clear for everyone that the threat of right wing terrorism is not a false image, but a very menacing one. Though many people left the party and their support diminished after it became clear that they are supporting violence, the arrest of the terrorists in Truru two months later has shown that there still are enough people sacrificing their youth and even lives for the deception that is National - Corporatism. The Woad Guards have arrested 6 people in Truru in connection with the murder of captain Santo Map Treave in July but the attacks continued with the murder of a woman during a firefight between the Woads and the terrorists in December and the death of four policemen in Lulyn in February the current year. In April four more policemen were killed in firefights with the terrorists and in June three men and a girl were killed, all civilians in a botched escape attempt of the National Corporatists after robbing a bank in Pennsans.

The Internal Counterespionage Division of the Woad Guard has since then started a Union wide campaign to suppress the National - Corporatist terrorist cells across the nation and have managed to be in general successful in their actions, suppressing cells in Naoned, Lulyn, Truru and today, in Pennsans. The Woads have arrested today 5 people, part of the NACRR and have confiscated 30 pistols, 4 bolt action rifles, one submachine gun and 7 grenades. It is considered another victory in the war against right wing terrorism. The current toll stands at 9 policemen, 15 terrorists and 5 civilians killed and another 17 terrorists placed under arrest.

"It is our duty to do anything necessary to stop the right wing terrorists and to make Caledonia a safe nation for it's citizens, either Caledonian, or Ivernian, or Norse - Brython or anyone else. We understand that the radicalization of the extreme right wing scene may be caused by the economic downturn that comes from the 40s and from the Ivernian civil war, but if we are to consider ourselves civilized, we must work hard to make Caledonia great again, not kill each other for the sake of ideological phantoms. I thus make a plea to the Caledonian people: Every time you see suspect behavior on anyone, do not hesitate to call the police. The NACRR must be stopped if we are to keep Caledonia safe and democratic," stated General Corentin Map Day, the supreme leader of the Woad Guards.

Ivernian refugee camps set up by the southern border
Sant Piran Truru - Dumnonia Prefecture

In response to the fighting continuing in the separatist Republic of Milesia, the government headed by Benadur Rewan Map Andain has decided to create a series of of refugee camps in the Prefecture of Dumnonia, on the border between the Sea and the lakes. Ivernian refugees have crossed the border since the start of the secession movement in Milesia, but the Kerns patrolling the borders have attempted to stop the Ivernians crossing the borders, fearing that such a dislocation of people might strain and even destroy the infrastructure of the Prefectures of southern Caledonia.

The government, together with the local councils of the Prefecture of Dumnonia have decided to build refugee camps for Ivernians wishing to escape the war that takes place in Milesia. There are more than fifteen camps organized along the border with Milesia and the Kerns are instructed to arganize five crossing points for the refugees to be taken by the authorities to the camps.

"Though we condemn the war in Ivernia and the violence that is taking place, we still care of them and wish to see Ivernia united and great again. But before that, we care of human rights and the rights to have a good life without the fear of being killed every day. We will support the refugees by organizing a fund to help the Ivernian people coming to Caledonia in which we accept donations from our own citizens. On this planet there is no people closer to us linguistically and culturally, than the Ivernians. They are our brothers. We must help them. The Ministry of Finance have agreed to donate on this fund 5,000,000,000 Cynfreds. It may not be a big sum, considering the scale of events, but it's a start and we will see how things evolve from here," stated the Benadur in a press conference.

The government also stated that they are ready to accept asylum seekers from Ivernia in general and Milesia and Formoria in particular. Opposition parties have criticized the move of the Revolutionary Party saying that the government observed that the Ivernians could not be stopped in crossing the border so they decided to accept them and organize them in a legal manner, but are afraid that considering the imperialist and aggressive rhetoric of the government of Ivernia, the Taoiseach and his party may be antagonized.
