Welcome. I have written a guide to introduce you to the basics of our game:

Furthermore, I have two things you may wish to consider:

a) Carentania is Europes "Slovenia" of sorts. Culturally it features some heavier sicily themed aspects, but the language is Slovenian. We may want to work out a common history.

b) If "Die Doktrin" is supposed to be a socialist stream of thought of sorts, having the Revolution 1904 would make you the first ever socialist country - this can have serious implications for the history of other countries, due to the influence it would have had.

I'm so happy to see all these new people! Both because new people are exciting and breathe life into our community, and because I think I am officially no longer a newbie!

Thank you all!

Hi Carentania if you represent Slovenia, you are more or less the old motherland to my nation, so having a common history sounds very interesting I look forward doing this.

b) If "Die Doktrin" is supposed to be a socialist stream of thought of sorts, having the Revolution 1904 would make you the first ever socialist country - this can have serious implications for the history of other countries, due to the influence it would have had.

Well "Die Doktrin" isn't really a classical form of socialism and throughout its history my nation refused to influence or get influenced by other nations in social matters, so the impact Kransjka might had on other nations is rather small.
But you are right I may consider to rather put the revolution in the period of the Great War on the continent, this will avoid any unwanted impact on other nations and also give me a even better reason why the revolution took place.

Yeo,

So obviously I'm new here and I'll have to poke around to see what this place is about, If anybody has any ideas on what to do for this nation, I'm open to hear them. I had somewhat of an African nation, but that could change.

Right then! Not so much "new" as "returning from a long hiatus so not really new to the game but certainly new to the region so I guess I qualify."

That was exceedingly longwinded. 'course, as far as longwinded goes you ain't seen nothing yet.

At any rate, the glorious has been refounded - or rather reorganized, as Caffeinistan had previously been a Theocracy and my governmental policies are going to shift accordingly. :)

While not having participated in any serious politicking/RPing in the past, here's my rough thumbnail sketch of my concept; if it steps on anyone's toes, of course, things can be worked out, but this should provide a basis for discussion.

***

The history of Caffeinistan is a lengthy and convoluted one, beginning not with the nation itself but with a tiny secret society in the European region founded during the 17th century. Various European mercantile houses, in response to the banning of coffee by Ottoman Turkey, attempted a novel approach to putting political pressure on the Turks - namely, they began to surreptitiously fund a number of religious splinter groups, in an attempt to cause more political upheaval than the regional leaders could easily tolerate. One such group had been founded by a man calling himself Achmed al-qahwah, a Nizari Ismaili who claimed to have become enlightened through the use of caffeine much as Hassan i Sabbah had claimed to become enlightened through the use of hashish. Indeed, al-qahwah adopted many of Hassan's practices and creeds, which proved somewhat ominous, as that fellow had founded the Hashishin - the group whose modern-day name would be 'the assassins.'

Al-qahwah's teachings appealed to certain disaffected segments of both the Muslim and Christian world; several decades after the man's death, these elements managed to infiltrate and depose the government of a small island in the North Sea, sometimes known as 'Shetland,' which is where the history of Caffeinistan as a nation truly begins.

The Theocracy of Caffeinistan, as it was called, had developed a rather... unique set of religious principles, based around the coffee bean as a portal to gnosis, direct knowledge of the Divine (whether said Divine being was the Judeo-christian God or the Islamic Allah was a subject of much debate among certain schismatics; the average Caffeinistanian simply did not care). The immediate distrust of their neighbors for the radical government encouraged an insular, isolationist Caffeinistan, though pains were taken to ensure positive diplomatic relationships with coffee-producing countries the world over; this direct correlation between the radical nation and their beverage of choice was a major factor in associating coffee with radicalization throughout the 19th and early 20th century (there is a reason, after all, why so many radical groups met and recruited in coffeehouses).

In recent years, however, the theocracy has crumbled in the face of widespread cultural exchange; the speed of communication in the modern era makes it nigh-impossible for an isolated populace to remain so. After a period of upheaval and near civil war, the nation has been renamed the People's Democratic Republic of Caffeinistan, and has instituted a new, secular government... though still a rather radical and progressive-leaning one. These major cultural shifts are sure to cause great upheaval in the government's social policies, and truly, a new day has dawned for this small yet prosperous nation.

All of which is my extraordinarily long-winded attempt to justify my not-very-serious nation setup - which can still be at least vaguely serious. :)

...so, yeah. Hi!

Welcome to NSEurope!

Ascalon is a nation controlled by two groups. The mafia and the catholic church. So it's kind of like a theocracy. We have a lot of jews though, and a lot of arabs (or Uroduah as they are called on this forum) so whether you pick to be a jew theocracy or a islamic theocracy im sure we can be friendlies. My society is kind of like Israel, with a heavy focus on the military, and a violent attitude towards my hostile neighbors.

Hello Europe!

As it's probably visibly clear, my nation is Genoliari. I'm big into the whole Sicilian thing and I was hoping to find some place in NS where I could elaborate on that instead of doing the usual regional government crap. :)

Or a Cuban-style nation...

Maybe even Yiddish lol

Not sure yet

But yeah, hi!
