We will follow the the events around the Christelijke Volksunie with interest. We want to point out that freedom of religion is also one of the basic freedoms that come with democracy.
We also want to point out that Prime Minister Diepenbrock's position is an extraordinary one. Because of that, his statements as a private person will always be viewed with more interest than statements of unknown persons. Officially, you can say whatever you want as a private person, but if that private person has an importantant role, his words will be judged by the crowd differently. Prime Minister Diepenbrock needs to take that into account.

"As a people who do read their bibles and believe in that Man who, two thousand years ago, walked on water, we will have to remember Prime Minister Diepenbrock true views about us in future dealings."

~ His Most Catholic Majesty, King Armand I, commenting on Batavian PMs view on Christianity.

2 NCD (noorddaalder/northern dollar)

Aren Norse Storm Batavian Border Region

Diesel & petrol is up to 40% less expensive in the Republic

Hilversum, Gauteng Provincie, Batavië.

The Aren Norse have invaded. Their car plates are more common on the streets of the border region. This newspaper counted 15% more 'A' NC car plates as 'B' ones in a half hour period. What are our rich neighbours to the north doing here exactly? Shopping, of course!

Despite both countries now both using the Northern Dollar (NCD), almost everything is cheaper in Batavia. Diesel and petrol, subsidised by Vlaanderen, is even cheaper here, despite Arendaal being a leading producer and supplier in Europe. Groceries, home goods, furniture, fine dining, the cinema, books...it can all be enjoyed and purchased for significantly less in Batavia. With the Aren Norse typically earning triple the salary of most Batavians, not only are the goods at normal rates less expensive, but dirt cheap when compared to Aren bank accounts.

Many Aren Norse who live close to the border with Gauteng Province are native Dutch-speakers, with the city of Leuven hardly more than an hour's drive northeast of the border. Although officially the Northern Council has not removed internal borders (the bill is still going through Northern Parliament in Hilversum), Vlaanderen did away with border checks to and from Arendaal months ago with the local border departments in close cooperation with one another. Batavian drivers seldom drive north of the border unless they are on business or visiting family and friends. Hilversum, the seat of the NC, also lies less than an hour's drive from the border and the slightly accented Dutch of southern Arendaal as well as Aren Norsk are commonly heard among the mix of languages spoken by the denizen NC 'norocrats'.

Coop b.v., the largest grocery and convenience store as well as petrol station chain, is fast on the move building more petrol stations and grocery stores on and near the border where the single motorway passes through, but also where the smaller two lane roads connect the two countries. Alex ten Thije, CEO of Coop b.v. told het Handelsblad:

'We are seeing rapid growth in the Gauteng market, mostly within a one hour's drive from the border...it's obvious most of this is being driven by Aren consumers taking advantage of the much lower prices.'

Coop is also considering opening up petrol stations and food stores in Arendaal itself, further from the border, however, in order to make a name for itself in the Kingdom.

'Coop is quickly becoming a household name in southern Arendaal with families often taking weekend trips to shop in Batavia, frequenting our stores for basic goods such as fuel and groceries. We want to expand on this by opening up stores in Arendaal, most likely in the Emyn Arnen region, which is too far away for it to be worthwhile to drive across the border to shop.'

But wouldn't the reason why Aren Norse shop at Coop in Batavia disappear if Coop had shops in Arendaal as the prices would be higher, we asked. Of course, the company responded, although slightly less expensive than the Aren brands already in operation, the company is not worries about that seeing as most Aren Norsk have enough money to shop where they wish.

'While the cross-border shopping is a significant boost for us and other vendors in the region, we cannot solely rely on this phenomenon, which is why it makes sense to take this opportunity to expand into our first foreign market.'

Are their plans to go up to Suionia, the NC's largest economy?

'Suionia is farther away and more competitive than Arendaal, but we are keeping all of our options on the table.'

Don't forget, if you're driving to Emyn Arnen or elsewhere in the Kingdom for business, fill up at the border before crossing!

het korte nieuws

»» The Prime Minister's Office responded positively to the Government of Warre's invitation for a one-on-one meeting in the NC member-state Éireann. 'I've been waiting for weeks' said PM Diepenbrock, who says he will bring the President of the Republic and Foreign Minister Arjan van Vliet with him.

»» Traders of the Vlaanderen Securities Exchange dumped Bantyr stocks as well as stocks of non-Bantyr companies operating within Bantyr for fear of further totalitarian-style state takeovers. The threat of disrupting NC merchant marine activity in the North also sent shipping insurance quotes to new highs.

»» Secretary-General of the NC Hans-Erik Rasmus said that while Vlaanderen & Lumina discuss their differences at the table of diplomacy, the NC as a whole would like to meet with Lumina in Hilversum or perhaps Södermalm in Suionia as the trade war has now spread well beyond Scano-Germania and is setting markets world-wide into a stir.

»» Batavian Petroleum will be opening up a tender competition for two new oil and gas refineries for the southeast Batavian coast in Delft Province. Meanwhile Eskom, the state electricity company whose board was sacked by PM Diepenbrock in March for failing to come up with a plan for the future, will be seeking expert help abroad for developing the Republic's first nuclear power facility.

»» The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted its counterparts in Warre to investigate the matter of two Batavian citizens injured in a mob protest in the Batavian Antilles last weekend, in which a Warric citizen of Batavian decent was lynched in what one MP in Vlaanderen called a 'medieval display of hatred'. The embassy in Lumina has requested all Batavians residing and travelling in Warre to report their status and a general warning has been sent out, although the Foreign Ministry says that at this time there are no plans to inform Batavian subjects to leave the country.
