Roerganger de Graaf Calls for Emergency Meeting of IRB

Vlaanderen, Batavië
Roerganger (supreme leader) Jap de Graaf spoke before the Centraal Comité (CC) in Vlaanderen today announcing his intent to host an emergency meeting of the International Revolutionary Bloc. Ushered out of the chamber by a boisterous applause, our ageing but iron-fisted Supreme Leader was hailed as a pillar against fascism and the right wing. As Roerganger de Graaf was driven back to his residence outside our glorious capital city his son, General Karel de Graaf resumed his guest appearance at Centraal Comité headquarters. Presiding over the session, it was unanimously approved to host the emergency IRB meeting in Vlaanderen at the earliest possible convenience.

General Karel de Graaf appeared before a press conference afterwards and said that, 'All 336 CC members voted in favour of this proposal and therefore we must prepare for the arrival of our allies. All the people should be prepared to do whatever is necessary in Vlaanderen to make it a comfortable and prosperous setting for our foreign Comrades.'

Meanwhile the capital city is preparing to host this event with the city streets and parks being swept clean and the venues for the meetings being prepared. The Komisariaat Buitenlandse Zaken (KoBuZa) (Commissariat of Foreign Affairs) has sent invitations and notices of this scheduled meetings to members of the IRB. Jap de Graaf People's International Airport outside of Vlaanderen is also preparing for the arrival of foreign dignitaries, many of who are expected to arrive within mere days. The IRB headquarters, located within the Government District of the capital city, will play host to most of the meetings. Yet utmost on the agenda, said an IRB spokesman, was organising the alliance against the growing threat of fascism in the East.

General Karel de Graaf finished his press conference today by saying, 'We cannot allow this tumour to push upon our neighbours and comrades. We must stand together as one People.'

Kommissaris voor Buitenlandse Zaken van Vliet Warns Arendaal

Vlaanderen, Batavië
Arjan van Vliet, the Kommissaris voor Buitenlandse Zaken (Commissariat for Foreign Affairs) warned Emyr Arnen that to allow the Belmonti Queen Diana to visit would put a stain on Bataafsche-Arendaal relations. Yesterday, prominent media sources in Belmont, along with independent news sources, claimed that the Belmonti Prime Minister had given verbal authorisation for the country to change its foreign policy into one that threatens communism and global peace. Meanwhile, Queen Diana of Belmont has scheduled a visit to the Volksrepubliek's northern neighbour, Arendaal. Kommissaris van Vliet, along with General Karel de Graaf, said that to allow an enemy to communism to visit a state so nearby our own would surely hamper relations unnecessarily.

A professional letter was despatched to Emyr Arnen early this morning from the Batavian embassy in the Arendaal capital. Politely and in a civilised tone, the letter called for the government of Arendaal to 'rethink' its position towards allowing the Belmonti Queen a visit in Scania. The letter was signed by Ambassador Remco Drans, Kommissaris van Vliet, General de Graaf and Roerganger de Graaf. Although no ultimatums were put into the letter it is expected that 'appropriate' actions will be taken both against Arendaal and Belmonti interests in Scania. The Centraal Comité (CC) discussed Belmonti Queen's expected visit yet did not reach consensus on whether or not to officially condemn the visit as a Belmonti gesture or provocation against Communism. Some CC members proposed at one point during chamber debate to halt all grain exports to Arendaal if the Queen is allowed to enter the country. This was seen as out of proportion for most CC members.

  • A full harvest in the grain producing regions of Northwest Batavië has resulted in robust exports to IRB allies and other traditional buyers, most notably Arendaal and Skånsige Statsunionen

  • A People's Navy patrol boat is sent to the Oostende Bay, an area of water where the Batavian and Skånsigen maritime borders meet. Unknown amounts of natural gas and oil have been discovered there over the last few years prompting Party and Military officials to safeguard Batavia's marine territory

  • Windhoek Eiland to the south west of Scania will receive daily air service from KLM between Jap de Graaf People's International Airport in Vlaanderen and Windhoek People's Airport located in the small city of Zuidstad. This will be mainly for Party and Military officials

  • Health officials are 'not concerned' with Slavic Flu outbreaks in the East citing that the country is well prepared for an epidemic. LFS are also on a trade embargo list further limiting the possibility of the disease reaching Batavië via trade.

Skånsige Delegation Arrives in Vlaanderen
A brief clip is shown of the arrival of the Skånsige officials. Cut back to the studio.

A diplomatic delegation from the Skånsige Statsunionen arrived in the capital city of Vlaanderen this morning by aeroplane. The group of diplomats is expected to stay in the People's Republic for two days in order to discuss bilateral matters. High on the agenda are the oil and gas fields which straddle the international maritime border between Batavië and the Statsunionen. Until clear demarcations are set, few expect substantial exploration and extraction to commence.

Staatsveiligheid Submits Request to Alter Visa Regulations
Archived video of the SV headquarters in Vlaanderen is shown. Shots from earlier in the day display bureaucrats and officials bustling about the lobby outside a press conference.

The Staatsveiligheid (State Security, SV) has submitted a formal request to the Comisariaat Buitenlandse Zaken (Commissariat of Foreign Affairs) to alter its diplomatic visa distribution to Belmonti citizens. Sceptical about Belmonti intentions, the SV hopes to prevent security breaches by preventing any Belmonti officials from entering the country whether they be on personal or business trips. By temporarily halting the distribution of diplomatic visas to Belmonti government officials, the SV would achieve an unprecedented manoeuvre in directly affecting foreign policy. The request is pending review.

Seven Year Plan On Right Track
A wide-shot pan of flat fields of wheat zooms into a reporter holding a microphone amidst the light rain and grey sky.

The Seven Year Agricultural Plan, which was started in 2001, remains on track despite several setbacks in earlier part of the decade. With grain and dairy production at all-time highs, it seems certain that Batavië will remain the 'bread basket of Scania' and certainly for the IRB. The Politburo recently approved an increase in exports to non-IRB members meaning Arendaal and the Skånsige Statsunionen could be receiving more bushels than originally expected. The Seven Year Plan expires in 2010. A shorter plan has been under revision since last year.

Supreme Leader de Graaf Assures Capitalists of Peaceful Intent

Roerganger (Supreme Leader) Jap de Graaf addressed the country and world today from the Central Comité's main chamber. Standing at the podium, as strong looking as ever, he graced the CC members and television audiences with his words of wisdom. In recent days, certain foreign media outlets have labelled communism, the ideology and way of the People, as a threat to so-called democratic and capitalist states. Roerganger de Graaf took aim at these completely false accusations, echoing the words of newspaper journalists in places such as the Levant.

Roerganger de Graaf said that, 'Communism, the greatest system of government to grace this troubled planet of ours, is in no way a threat to other countries, be they near or far. Member states of the IRB are supporters of peace, prosperity and eternal progress for the People.'

During his twenty minute speech he highlighted bigger concerns that capitalist states should focus on, such as LFS states. The right wing and fascist regimes of the East, he said, were taking aim at the entire globe. 'They seek to destroy what is natural. They seek to dominate what is not theirs to control or tread upon.'

Closing up his speech, de Graaf said that Batavië will always be open to dialogue with democratic states even if they do not follow a socialist or communist path. He mentioned specifically AGE member countries. At one point he stated that he 'admires' the cooperation seen amongst AGE states but wishes that it was pursued in a communist system more fair to the People. Currently a high-level conference between Batavian and Skånsige officials is under way in Vlaanderen. The Comisariaat voor Buitenlandse Zaken is also planning to appoint a Special Envoy to deal with AGE related affairs.

Perhaps the Batavian government should focus in bringing a remedy to its own internal complications before attempting to pursue a campaign of defamation against the League of Free States.

The internal complications of Batavië are those of every day occurrences seen in any country. Thanks to our strong and wise leadership, we do not have worries over domestic strife such as those seen in the Eastern regimes. Our hegemonic and peaceful society progresses forward while the weight of a flawed system holds the East back.

Prime Minister [WIKI]Svea Bjornsen[/WIKI] and her cabinet regret that Government of Batavië should view the upcoming visit of Her Majesty Diana I of Belmont to Arendaal in a negative light. Much as we wish to maintain cordial relations with our Batavian neighbours, we are also keen to maintain our relationship with Belmont and, after all, we cannot possibly ask our King not to receive one of his royal relations. We trust, in turn, that our relations with Batavië will not suffer as a result of this gesture of familial solidarity.

Kommissaris Van Vliet Welcomes Belmonti Foreign Policy U-Turn; Advises Caution

Vlaanderen, Batavië
Speaking at his daily press conference outside the CoBuZa headquarters in the Government District, Kommissaris Van Vliet warmly welcomed Belmont's foreign policy u-turn while still urging cautious across the IRB member states. The new Belmonti Prime Minister, Monsieur Millerand, even went so far as to end the trade embargo with communist countries, such as those within the IRB. Although all of these steps towards rapprochement have been welcomed in Vlaanderen, Van Vliet said that 'more than words' will be needed.

The seven members of the Politburo, of which Van Vliet is one member, discussed the matter at their morning briefing. An official Politburo memo was then sent out to relevant commissariats, including the CoBuZa. Kommissaris Van Vliet will be arranging a bilateral meeting between Belmonti and Batavian officials to take place hopefully this weekend.

Although not able to comment on the matter due to personal affairs, Supreme Leader de Graaf's signature appeared on the Politburo memos, indicating his steadfast support for the bilateral talks. The Supreme Leader's son, Karel de Graaf, also a member of the Politburo, was not present at the CoBuZa press conference. An aid to General de Graaf said that this was a CoBuZa organised affair and no comment from the People's Military would be necessary at this time.

Should the new Belmonti Prime Minister's administration accept the invitation for bilateral talks, this will be the second meeting of international stature to be held on Batavian soil in one week.

  • The border with Arendaal will not receive extra troops when the Belmonti Queen visits next week. Rumours were circling in Vlaanderen that a heightened alert would be in effect during the visit. The rumour has been confirmed just that by the People's Military.

  • Carentania appears to be isolating itself from fellow communist countries claiming to be the true communist bastion of hope. Clearly not working to its advantage, the falsely governed state is making few friends and acquiring more foes.

  • Annual IRB military exercises will take place this winter as scheduled. The exact location of such events has yet to be determined. Analysts expect land, sea and air units to be used in 'more than once location'.

If it takes that long for Batavie to notice our stance regarding the IRB, we may have some additional news for its leaders: the Great War is over, Oikawa annexed Jizhou and, oh shock, Kyiv has been couped by fascists!

BREAKING NEWS: Kryobaijani Government Undergoes Rapid Change

The People's Republic's great ally of Kryobaijan has recently undergone a rapid government party change. Everything, however, was known about by the proper IRB authorities and officials. Brewing for some weeks now, the new governing authority in Derjiste has launched a social campaign to reform and revitalise the country, much like that which was done in Batavië during the early 1990s. Supreme Leader de Graaf wrote a letter of congratulation to the new leadership and expressed his personal wishes for continued cooperation between our two mighty bulwarks against the typhoon of fascism. Meanwhile, a diplomatic delegation has been sent to Derjiste to conduct bilateral discussions ahead of the IRBs Winter Congress.

Gas-line Explodes in Vlaanderen Grocery Store; 4 Dead

Vlaanderen, Batavië
Chaos engulfed much of the downtown stretch of De Graaf Boulevard this morning as a small corner grocery store exploded. Fire and other emergency authorities quickly determined that the cause of the explosion was an ageing gas-line pipe system which heated the store-front. Four morning shoppers perished in the explosion and about twenty others were injured. Emergency authorities arrived on scene within minutes of the explosion and began to tend to the fallen pedestrians. The fire was put out this afternoon, little remains of the store.

Supreme Leader de Graaf was touring military training facilities on Windhoek Eiland today but was informed immediately of the tragedy. Speaking from the official government 747 aeroplane, The Griffin, our leader cited the need for calm and reason to overcome this disaster. He has ordered a full city inquiry into the explosion to prevent similar aged gas systems to fail in such a horrific way. Meanwhile, Staatsveiligheid officials were seen at the cite of the explosion interviewing witnesses and others nearby at the time of the explosion.

Staatsveiligheid Head Commissioner Adriaan de Bruin said that, 'This is standard procedure when life threatening events occur anywhere in the country, especially in our glorious capital city of Vlaanderen. We do not, at this time, expect this to be a terrorist related activity.' During the Revolution of 1949 when the proletariat, led by Roerganger de Graaf, were fighting the capitalists for freedom, pro-Republican supporters had used bomb attacks as a scare tactic. The tactic failed amidst the united strength of the workers and there has since been no internal strife since the end of the Revolution.

Citizens! Remember that you are obligated to report any suspicious activity of strangers, neighbours, friends and family to your local municipal police station or SV centre. They are there to keep you safe, you are there to keep them informed!

Deputy Police Chief Assassinated in Vlaanderen

The Deputy Police Chief of the Industrial District Precinct was assassinated yesterday afternoon after returning from a conference in the Government District. Hans Boerman was returning from a weekly precinct conference downtown when he was crossing the street with two police constables. He was shot once in the head and probably died before hitting the ground. The two constables managed to take cover before the second and third shots were fired. The gunman most likely made use of an old factory building. Although the area was sealed off shortly after the killing, he or she managed to escape the scene.

A manhunt has begun in the capital city with double police presence until further notice. Staatsveiligheid inspectors were called onto the scene. Bullet shells were found in the supposed vantage point of the gunman and they are being tested for finger prints and DNA samples. Supreme Leader de Graaf vowed to 'overturn the country if necessary' to find the killer. Deputy Police Chief Boerman will be given a proper state burial this weekend. Meanwhile, citizens are being reminded to report any suspicions or potentially useful pieces of information to their local Metropolitan Police or SV centres. It is a legal obligation and not an option. Your information is worth the lives of fellow citizens.

CoBuZa 'Disappointed' After Receiving No Invitation to Scanian Council Meeting

Kommissaris voor Buitenlandse Zaken, Arjan van Vliet, did not look pleased at his press conference today. Speaking before the room of reporters he said that the Comisariaat voor Buitenlandse Zaken (CoBuZa) was 'surprised and offended' that Skånsige Statsunionen did not send an invitation to Vlaanderen to attend a regional meeting. The annual Scanian Council meeting will be attended by representatives from Arendaal, Skånsige and Fjäderholmarna. Officials speaking on the condition of anonymity said that the Supreme Leader himself felt this as a 'snub' to the great country of Batavië.

'Everyone knows that because Batavië chooses a different way to run its democracy and economy it is not expected to blindly nod in agreement at multilateral conferences. But to not extend an invitation to the People's Republic was surely a big political mistake that will not be ignored by the CoBuZa or the Supreme Leader.' said one member of the Centraal Comité. Kommissaris van Vliet said that should a belated invitation be sent to his office he would still send a representative, 'to at least observe' the proceedings.

'Målmöholm will never achieve continental-wide goals if Batavië is ignored. We all want to see progress and cooperation. It just doesn't make sense for us to be left out.' commented Van Vliet before departing to his countryside home for the weekend.

Arjan van Vliet Interviewed; Talks About AGE

You must be registered for see images

Kommissaris Arjan van Vliet arriving at a Politburo meeting

Vlaanderen, Batavië
De Volkskrant has been given the opportunity to interview the Kommissaris voor Buitenlandse Zaken (Commissar for Foreign Affairs), Arjan van Vliet. Mr van Vliet has been called the 'face of Batavië' for the last years now representing Batavian interests abroad. Senior Reporter Herman Ham interviewed Mr van Vliet at his country villa yesterday afternoon.

Herman Ham: Thank you again, Kommissaris van Vliet. I would like to begin with a question over the upcoming AGE summit in Skånsige. Will the CoBuZa have representatives there and what do you expect to come out of this conference?

My please, Meneer Ham. The AGE summit being held very soon in the neighbouring country of Skånsige is a very large event and it is going to affect a great number of states regardless of whether or not they participate in it. I can tell you now that the CoBuZa will not be sending any representatives to observe the conference as, as far as I have been told, it is an alliance only affair.

The AGE is undergoing a process of choosing a new Secretary-General and will probably be examining its economic policies and foreign policies. What I hope to see is more communication between AGE and the IRB as well as with Batavië. For example, in my scheduled meetings with Skånsige officials, I intend to propose a number of features that will increase regular, even daily communication and also put in place measures to prevent events leading to misunderstandings.

Do you think that the AGE will be open for such communication initiatives?

I don't see why not. It depends on a number of factors, one of the foremost being who they elect to be their next Secretary-General. With Batavië in a leadership position of the IRB, it will only be natural for me to meet very soon with the new SG. I hope to build a strong rapport with him or her and discuss possible new cooperative measures.

What do you say to those in the Centraal Comité opposed to working with the AGE?

Well, I certainly understand their qualms and fears. AGE is certainly a capitalist driven alliance and a very influential and sturdy economic community. But while I have heard their concerns, the Politburo and the CoBuZa have come to the final decision that cooperating to a moderate degree with AGE is not only necessary, but totally unavoidable and inevitable. I would rather see AGE and the IRB work together in peace than have us both face the much greater concern out East alone. The LFS is certainly a greater threat to communism than democracy and capitalism in the AGE framework.

Could you allude to any plans the CoBuZa has for dealing with AGE?

Of course. The Centraal Comité's Foreign Affairs Committee has opened an inquiry and research project into the prospects of setting up a Department within the CoBuZa to deal just with AGE. This would likely entail appointing a Special Envoy to constantly be in talks with AGE. If the AGE framework even allowed, we would probably want to place that Special Envoy in the AGE headquarters as a sort of ambassador.

About the upcoming IRB Winter Congress, will relations with AGE be on the agenda?

Absolutely. Not only will it be on the agenda, it will be a primary focus of the Congress. We also, of course, intend to spend a great deal of time discussing Inter-IRB affairs such as trade, defence and other forms of cooperation.

Kommissaris Van Vliet, thank you very much.

My sincere pleasure. Alstublieft!

Van Vliet Set to Unveil Economic Proposal at Nordic Council

You must be registered for see images

Arjan van Vliet speaking at the Nordic Council yesterday

Nystrå, Skånskige Statsunionen
Official but anonymous sources within the Foreign Commissary say that Commissar Arjan van Vliet, currently attending the Nordic Council conference in Skånskige, will unveil an economic proposal to the other attending countries. Although no details were given, the source said that this proposal will 'usher in a new age of commerce in Scandinavia'. Mr Van Vliet and the Batavian delegation arrived at the conference in Nystrå yesterday after receiving a late invitation to the conference.

Fjäderholmarna, Skånskige and Arendaal are also in attendance and relations and affairs between these countries are on top of the agenda. Meanwhile, AGE is holding its summit in Skånskige as well. They will be choosing a new Secretary-General to lead the alliance and economic bloc. On the other side of the spectrum, the IRB is holding its Winter Congress in Vlaanderen this week in which a new Chairman will also be elected by the representatives. A spokesman for Mr Van Vliet said that 'he will be watching the events and results of the AGE summit very closely. Mr Van Vliet hopes to engage with AGE as never seen before which will ultimately depend on who they elect as their new Secretary General.'
