The Grand Duchy is very concerned regarding the events occurring within Liege, and offers her assistance in any way feasible.

OFFICIEL ERKLÆRING

His Majesty's Danic Government welcomes the initiative demonstrated by the Rousseau administration to get to grips with the calamity and we will offer support in that endeavour. But we would be cautious against holding onto emergency powers for any longer than is necessary. Enhanced powers must always be a temporary measure.

I can't believe that the enemies of the Catholic faith would act so low to keep our people down, but I am glad that the Catholic people were able to come up on top. If the English continue to cause trouble, just call me and I will send our military aid you and your people. I have sent my best doctors over to help your people before I could even ask him, Cardinal Rousseau had left to go aid your people, you know how our relative is with is passion. May God help your people in this troubling time and may he have mercy of those who have died. Oh, and I am glad that you chose to keep Mr. Hall, I like him.

Office of the Chancellor

I wish to express my gratitude to those that have kept my people in their prayers. I also want it to be known that I shall not turn into the same despot that ordered the massacre against my people. I have learned, and my people have learned from the past, this will be a new Republic, a better Republic; one that truly reflects its people. As such, there will be changes in the coming weeks, all for the benefit of the people. These changes will include; a better representation of our Christian faith, the development and research of clean power, such as wind turbines to be constructed off our coast, away from shipping lanes, and the first nuclear power plants, in order to best care for our people and the environment. Along with many other changes. I will lead Liege to glory, in the way of advancing the lives of by citizens. I was a military man once, and now I serve the people. I know the horror of battle, and I shall do my utmost to spare the people of Liege from that knowledge.

I will also take this time to thank the Holy Kingdom of Corsica, our brothers and sisters which defend the Holy See. I appreciate the aid you have given to the people of Liege, the plight is now less, due to the forward thinking of their King. I have also welcomed my kinsman; his Eminence the Cardinal Rousseau. With his aid and the strength his name brings my people will most surely be able to find peace, for some they will succumb to their injuries, and know the peace of God's embrace. For most they will see that this is truly God's work, and will be able to work on knowing they are in the right. I am also sure that Cardinal Myriel will love to talk with my kinsman. He has been preaching how the new cathedral should be named in honor of the martyr that gave her life for the start of this new Republic, maybe with him here they can start to at least officially beatify her. As for Mr. Hall, he has proven to be a most loyal defender of the people. To have him tried with the former ministers would be an injustice. I am glad that we can still benefit from his long experience.

DULWICH, TUESDAY, 15th MAY 2012

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the Princes, and Chiefs of the Republic of Liege.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE PRINCES, AND CHIEFS OF THE REPUBLIC OF LIEGE
I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

Her majesty the Queen-Empress and the Imperial Government of Great Engellex is aware of the feeling which was allowed to be encouraged against the Engellexic populations within Liege by a disturbed and violent section of the French political class that exists there, but I trust to be able to inform my sovereign and parliament, in discharging the difficult and arduous task which had been entrusted to the Imperial Government by the vocation of its position within Europe as an Anglo-Saxon Great Power, that, not only shall the conduct of the Imperial Government be exemplary in this matter, the government of the Republic of Liege shall co-operate dutifully with Great Engellex on this endeavour.

While a motion upon the subject of the treatment of Engellexic populations was pending in the House of Lords, it remains appropriate for myself to the necessary questions to the government of Liege.

I shall divide this letter into three parts – first, alluding to the political condition of the ethnic divisions within Liege; secondly, the massacre; and, thirdly, meeting the allegations against the demeanour of Engellexic peoples which had made against those that exist within Liege.

Upon the first point, having been appointed Secretary of State only quite recently, I had risen to the duties of state to find the social conditions of the Republic of Liege in a deplorable condition, indeed, to remedy which I shall immediately propose certain measures to be sincerely considered by your government. A measure I believe to be of great importance would be the establishment of an Engellex-Liege institution to research and produce advice for the government of Liege to act upon. The division that has been tolerated and encouraged is not befitting of a civilised state of Preuti-Borussia.

On the second point, I remind Mister Rousseau that the unscrupulous and provocative character of the Liege Defence League youth association made it necessary for President Alfred Hughes to act differently with the unsanctioned revolutionary assemblies in the capital, and it is the firm belief of the Imperial Government that the rebellion of the youths, which had its rise in the jealousy of Engellexic peoples and from anxiety on uncertain election results, was a most serious one indeed, and that but for the steps he had taken it would have produced destruction to a much more shocking degree. It was always difficult to decide upon the amount of precaution which should be taken in such instances. Therefore the announced trial of the president is an affront to the democratic and civilised codes that have shaped the continent, particularly grave, too, it is with the matter of Roussau’s victory lacking verification from independent observers.

As a Secretary of State of Great Engellex, with the absolute confidence of my sovereign, I declare the insistence of the Imperial Government for the immediate release of President Alfred Hughes from revolutionary custody and for the formation of a European Committee to independently investigate the allegations made against him.

The third point, on the matter of the character of Engellexic peoples that populate Liege, I wish the accusations against the Engellexic communities of Liege had been brought forward to the attention of the Imperial Government, where they could have been met with remedy; lacking initiative, the members of the Liege Defence League have instead caused great offence to the dignity of her Majesty the Queen-Empress, her Crown Subjects, and peoples of the far flung realms of Europe.

By the Grace of GOD, of the EMPIRE of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN-EMPRESS, through the SECRETARY of STATE, his Grace the DUKE of NONSUCH

As Chancellor of the Consistory of His Majesty's realm I express my great wishes to Mr. Rousseau as the new Chancellor of Liege. The corruption of the Hughes regime that denied the people of Liege to be led by their chosen leader deserved to be removed from this earth so that the Liege nation can move forward with its God given destiny. Even thought his majesty disagrees with the ideas of other, we still reflect the voice of the people in our nation and government. I extend the blessings and wishes of his majesty to the people and Chancellor of Liege.

I look forward to further cooperation between the Republic and the Empire.

______________________________
VESPER, WEDNESDAY, 16th MAY 2012

THE Oceanic Realms has suspended operations of our Foreign Office in Verdun as of May 16. Sir Alfred Wickham Hirrod, the assigned Foreign Officer, and all Cantigian personnel have now been ordered to depart the Republic of Liege. The recent surge in violence, including the spilling of Engellexic blood in Verdun, has raised serious concerns that our Office is not safe given the current climate of racial strife.

While Officer Hirrod has left Verdun in body, he remains in spirit with the Peoples & Patriots of Liege, both Engellexic & Francophone. As the Crimson Queen’s representative, he will continue his work and engagement with the people of Liege as head of our mission office in Vesper. Together with other regional offices, such as Dulwich and Lunden, Officer Hirrod will maintain contacts with peaceful entities in Verdun to continue our efforts and support of a political regime in Liege that recognizes Engellexic culture and rights with the reverence it duly deserves.

This suspension of diplomatic operations, we hope, will clearly reflect our opinion that regional peace and security has been undermined by destabilizing entities of a rancorous nature. Whether delivered by Engellexic Authority, or International Commission, we believe in the inevitably of justice that shall be served under faith or fire, by the end of this calendar year. And while we do not recognize a direct connection between violent entities in Liege, and Liegois residents within these friendly confines, we will not hesitate in monitoring radical entities that may have or might take form here in the Oceanic Realms.

Forward !

:!: Local authorities confirm that the death toll rises past 7,000 in the capital city of Verdun as the clean up of the devastated French Quarter continues. The french quarter saw heavy devastation following the massacre in mass of French citizens ordered by President Hughes after the initial protests and small riots spurred by the election results. The English Guard locked down the capital city preventing anyone from fleeing as homes and businesses were burned and civilians executed in the streets by the guardsmen on the alleged order of Alfred Hughes, in what is becoming known as the "Bloody Verdict of Verdun." The carnage continued through the night until the Hughes Regime was over thrown by the LDL Militia and elements of the army under General Lamarque, when they retook the capital and stopped the massacres. Nearly all the fires have been put out as Verdun begin the long work of picking up the pieces from that night.

:!: General Jean Maximilien Lamarque, former Minister of War, stepped down as commander of the military and turned himself in to civic authorities for crimes he committed in the retaking of Verdun. After taking Verdun, General Lamarque order the execution of 150 members of Hughes' English Guard who were participating in the "Bloody Verdict of Verdun" the massacre of French in the capital. General Lamarque stated that "I knew what I was doing and after seeing that those men had done to innocent civilians I couldn't let them go unpunished and gave the order. I knew in that moment my actions were a crime and it made me no better than Hughes, and for that I give myself to the authorities to receive punishment for the crimes I committed on that awful night." Many rallied to the defense of the General and protesting that his actions were justified, while other praise Lamarque for turning himself in placing the law above himself and that the Rule of Law is still supreme in Liege.

:!: Interim Chancellor Enjolras Rousseau was in the city of Marlborough in western Liege to meet with several leaders of the English community of Liege. The majority of Liege's 2.3 million English Community reside in the western areas near Breotonia and along the Liege southern coast and is made up of mostly of Breotish and Havenshireites with some Engellexic Anglo-Saxons in the south. The Interim Chancellor traveled to ease the minds of the leaders of the English Community following the overthrow of the Hughes Regime. "We are not here to attack the English-speaking communities of Liege," The chancellor went on, "We only wished to remove from our Republic a oppressive government and a dictatorial regime that only serviced itself and not all the people's of Liege. All the French, English, and Lusitanian communities need to come together to rebuild our republic and enjoy a government that is truly representative of all Liegeois." Chancellor Rousseau also stated that the Most Serene Republic of Liege looks forward to working with the international community, but that the republic will never yield away any part of its sovereignty over its people or laws.

M. Rainer Beaumont, Chargé de l'Intérim du Ministre des Étrangères, le Republique de Liége,

His Majesty's Danic Government welcomes the invitation extended to attend an international conference to seek to resolve the impasse that has effected Liége in recent weeks and shall accept.

We wish to indicate our support of the Rousseau administration in demonstrating init
iative in order to resolve this crisis which is an admirable and commendable trait.

In accepting the invitation, we wish it to be known that certain conditions should be met.

Firstly, we urge that leading representatives of the opposition be present at the talks in order to give a complete perspective of political views within the Republic and as an acknowledgement of the divided political and social structure of the Republic.

Secondly, representatives from all concerned international parties are present. We understand that this has been forthcoming from the Rousseau administration.

Thirdly, a representative of Engellex be present. On this latter point, it has been brought to our attention that an invitation to the government of Engellex has been extended. We welcome that development.

We are of the understanding it is of significant importance that all concerned parties are represented and we shall attend in that spirit.

It is important to everyone, especially the new government of Liège, to realise the composition of the sovereign nation of Liège: A nation containing three different kinds of people. General Rousseau's speech to the English speaking people of Liège indicates that he realises the multi-ethnic character of his country. We will follow his steps with interest, especially to this subject. We also give our support to General Rousseau.

Furthermore, the government of Engellex has already dramaticly shown its interest in the French culture and shows it once again. Given the fact that Liège is a sovereign nation, it would be wise and according to international law if the Engellexic government enjoys the French culture in Liège from a distance.

Chancellor Rousseau, was never a general in the Liegeois Army, but left as a former colonel. He remains a private citizen of Liege and greatly welcome the kind words of encouragement and support from the Kingdom of Eiffelland.

:!: The interim government of Chancellor Rousseau announced today that the nation will once again find itself in election season. The government officially voided the results of the past election and announced the planning of new elections. New elections are scheduled to be held in the middle of July for all the positions that were up for election in the race that sparked the Liegeios Revolution. The election will be monitored by a team of international observers and the composition of that team is expected to be decided in the special meeting called in Toulon. The elections will have new results before the new terms begin at the end of the summer in accordance with the constitution of Liege.

:!: Owain Robinson, the Mayor of Marlborough, made a public appearance today to announce his support for the interim government. Marlborough is the largest city of English population in Liege and its mayor has become the unofficial leader of the Liegeios Anglophone populace after the overthrow of President Hughes. Mayor Robinson’s support is vital as the nation prepares to re-elect members of the government and as Rousseau works to bridge the divide that he claims “is being perpetuated by those outside Liege’s borders. Hughes was a friend to no one and killed both English and French in his reign over the Most Serene Republic.”

:!: The death toll from the events of the “Bloody Verdict of Verdun” top out at 7,086 as local aid workers comb through the last areas of rubble in the burnt-out French quarter of the capital city. Construction workers will begin to bulldoze the wreckage of burned buildings and damaged areas of the French quarter. The government will be issuing humanitarian grants to those families that lost their property in the destruction of areas of the city in order to help them rebuild their lives and businesses. The Ministry of Finance will be handling these claims and the distribution of the grants to effective families.
