IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT OF SIKANDARA
GRAND COUNCIL FOR DIPLOMATIC AFFAIRS

PRIVATE CORRESPONDENCE

10. June. 1955

To,
The Commissar for Foreign Affairs,
Worker's Republic of Carentania

Dear Sir,
In what is a letter most uncommon and unusual, from my office to yours, is written in good faith and with the hope that you and your colleagues in the Government receive it with an open mind.

The recent tensions in the Long Sea are regrettable and the deaths therein tragic. The Imperial Government wishes to assure your good office that we seek a peaceful and neutral Long Sea free of any ideological divisions. However, we must inform you that we believe that the status quo in the Long Sea has been damaged by your allies in Solis. They remain unwilling to truly cooperate with the international community. The International Commission on the Long Sea was very nearly derailed by the refusal of that government to take part in a series of talks aimed at resolving the issues of the first report. Now as the world's harsh gaz is upon the ICLS, we know that it has to provide an answer which is controversial to neither party but wholly unsatisfactory for the purposes of finding the truth.

The claims that we present, while we accept that you may have your doubts as to our version, we simply ask you to investigate the matter using your own channels. The influence of Rijecka in Solis is profound, and that is a fact which no one can deny, and so we look to you. Radicals or any other such element in the Aurarine regime, we believe, are attempting to set the whole region ablaze in a fight which will consume us all.

I know what I ask from you is most unusual but I simply hope that you shall look into the matter and see for yourself that it was not Sikandara which first attacked the ships in the Long Sea. This is not a time to cling to our ideological positions. This is the time for the truth to prevail.

Mir Rustam Ghaznavi
Grand Councillor for Diplomatic Affairs

Private Correspondence

Mir Rustam Ghaznavi
Grand Councillor for Diplomatic Affairs
Empire of Sikandara

Dear Sir,

your letter was received warmly in the Workers' Republic, igniting hopes that, perhaps, peace is not lost yet to Europe. But we must inform you that, while we hope this correspondence can avert the looming threat of war, Carentania can not and will not accept a continuation of Sikandaras current activities that threaten the continued freedom of the Carentanian people.

Our assessment of the actions of our Aurarian comrades can not differ more profoundly from your belief that radical elements within the Aurarian government are desiring a war in the Long Sea. Connections between the two socialist brotherstates run deep on all levels of government and society and we can affirm with certain clarity that all these levels desire a peaceful and neutral long sea open to international shipping, as it is this status quo that has benefitted our two countries for decades and it is the erosion of this status quo that threatens to bring war to our shores.

It is with this certainty that I must instead return the worries about radical and rogue elements within the government and ask you, esteemed colleague, what makes you so certain that it is the Aurarian version of the recent tragedy pertaining a Sikandari ship that is flawed, perhaps even an outright lie. We can confirm through our own channels and by merit of experience that it is, indeed, not an invention by political groups within Auraria that the ship was struck by the Sikandari military. Therefore I ask you:

Is it not possible that there are elements within the Sikandari government or military that seek war with the communist world?

As it seems now, such a war would be fought in the Long Sea at our homefront and from a defensive stance. Does the Sikandari government really believe we or the Aurarians would desire such a war? It would be a foolish undertaking from our side - but for radicals in Sikandara, it would certainly be desirable to engulf the Long Sea in warfare and drive as many countries as possible into conflict with the socialist states in the region.

If the Sikandari government is really desiring peace, it will trust our word that Auraria is not seeking war with Sikandara and that the Workers' Republic would not support such a folly, that it would actively stop any attacks on civilian vessels in the Long Sea, even Sikandari ones. If the Sikandari government is really desiring peace, it will cease its aggressive military posturing and its attempts to gain a military presence in the Long Sea, which can only lead to war with the Workers' Republic, and instead comes around to the negotiation table to secure a diplomatic solution to any concerns it may raise in regards to the safety of its trade routes.

Sincerely
Matija Dracar
Commissar for Foreign Affairs
