I will roleplay considering only the true Twentish Holy See! :eek:rly:

But there never was a Twentish Holy See in this world's history. You might want to read these two threads.

IRL the language used in the Vatican is firstly Italian, and then you have more change someone speaking French, 'cause many of them working there are Italians and they tend sooner to French as second language. English is not that common, except for the newest generation clergy.
IRL most spoken language among catholics are Spanish and I guess French (South America and Africa southern the Sahara desert count most catholics. Among USA-American Catholics many speak Spanish as well ).
The most important language in theology is German, as many famous theologicans were/are German. Tending more and more towards English.

So in "catholic life" Spanish is most important, and Italian and French within the hierarchy!

In NS it is indeed French because most catholic countries -including the Holy See- are Francophone.
