The Reformed Church of Potenza is the second largest church in the Grand Duchy of Potenza, with a history going back to the Reformation itself. We believe in the Doctrines of Grace, which are taught within the pages of scripture itself, and uphold a biblical view of all things regarding salvation and God's moral law. We have communion with many Reformed churches across the Gallian region.

Our missionaries, nicknamed Vergi (a name given in the 1950's, in reference to the missionaries sent out by Paolo Vergerio in the sixteenth century) operate throughout the world in various functions. They are paid for by the church itself, from the donations of her parishioners. Their functions are various: in many areas they simply start house churches or church plantings to reach out to believers in the region; in others they serve strictly evangelical purposes in handing out Bibles in the local languages and preaching to the unregenerated; in still other parts of the world they serve humanitarian needs. They are told to uphold the local laws and authorities, but in all things to never compromise secular rule over the teachings of Christ.

OOC: I basically started this to further add religious RP. If your nation has any situations (ie., immigration laws, religious bans, etc.) that would impede or prevent missionary activity, please let me know here and I'll make the relevant changes. If you'd like Potenzan missionaries in your nation or think they would do activity there, likewise let me know and I'll make adjustments.

Status of Religious Persecutions

Boganhem - DANGER: Anti-Christian propaganda is being given to the populace, calling Christianity a "disease of the soul" and "it is an enemy of the People." The slogan of "Christians, OUT!" has been shared publicly as well.
Breotonia - DANGER:
Religious activity not sanctioned by the state is forbidden. Those performing religious activities not approved by the government are detained.
Fennian Union - SAFE: Religion is permitted, but missionaries may experience a certain level of scrutiny by secret police to make certain no sedition or espionage is committed.
Franken - SAFE: All Christian denominations are permitted to worship and proselytize.
Mezhist Union - SAFE: Like the Fennian Union, all religions are permitted, but groups outside the Union's church may experience scrutiny to make certain anti-government actions are not being taken.
Miroslavl - RESTRICTED: The nation of Mirosavl is a mixture of areas of tolerance and areas of hostility. The majority Orthodox populations tend to show antipathy to non-Orthodox Christians. In the Soviet Republic of Khitai, Buddhist traditionalists and rebels regularly harass missionaries and Christians, with even more trouble from militant groups.
Nichstein - SAFE: Religion is permitted with freedom. As the large majority of the population is Reformed, Reformed Potenzans can likewise find great fellowship among the populace.
Parthavan Union - SAFE: Missionaries find little trouble the government or general populace, and often find good opportunities to witness to others as the Diagist religion says that one needs to be open minded towards other beliefs.
Potenza - SAFE:
The home nation of the Reformed Church of Potenza maintains freedom of religion, though Reformed Christians remain in the minority to the Tiburan Catholic Church.
Sikandara - RESTRICTED: While missionaries may evangelize to the Catholics, Hindus and pagans in certain parts of the country, proselytizing to Muslims is forbidden by law. The RCP, however, is permitted to operate by imperial mandate.
Talemantros - RESTRICTED: While not directly persecuted, non-Eastern Orthodox Christians often face harassment from local populaces and civil authorities. Permission is required for religious buildings to be constructed, and they are almost always turned down. As a result, most missionaries and pastors hold churches inside the homes of local believers.
Vangala - RESTRICTED: While missionaries are permitted to operate on a humanitarian basis, proselytizing is forbidden by the government.
Yujin - SAFE: There have been reports in foreign media that Christians are targeted, either by the populace or by the government. However, investigations by the RPC have confirmed these reports to be false, and the Christian faith itself is not under direct threat by the government of Yujin or its people as a whole.

While they wouldn't be banned from preaching, they certainly would be harassed by people and local officials. Also they would need permission from the government to construct places of worship, which of course wouldn't be given. We most certainly don't like you heretics coming to our true Christian lands.

OOC: That's actually given me a good idea to add to the OP - a Voice of the Martyrs-type listing of religious persecutions. B-)

OOC: While the Soviet Republic might frown on non-Miroslav Orthodox Church missionary work, they wouldn't do anything about it. Just don't expect many converts in heavily Orthodox areas. You might have more success amongst the predominantly Buddhist Kushans living in the Soviet Republic of Khitai, but the traditionalists and rebels there already harass Orthodox missionaries despite severe crackdowns, so non-Orthodox missionaries would have even more trouble with the militant Buddhists. The nationalists would ignore them, though, since they aren't allied with the Soviet Republic.

Feel free to try to work in the Volga, though. Just be warned that there's already Swieczieman and Miroslavan political and religious tensions there, so it'd be like trying to teach Islam to Croatians and Serbians at war with each other.

OOC: Note that the antipathy from the Orthodox is only towards proselytizing, though - they don't actually have anything against non-Orthodox Christians, they just don't favor their beliefs.

OOC: It would be illegal to proselytize Muslims, however the Reformed Church would be free to present its teachings to the Hindus and Pagans living in some areas of Sikandara, as well as having a free hand with the Catholic and Protestant community, which although small, is visible in the southern metropolises. As with all sects, the RCP's main church would be granted permission and protection under Imperial mandate.

OOC: Wendmark/Westsachsen is no more. Nichtstein will be majority Zwinglian, minority Catholic, just in far less radical proportions than in Wendmark. Something like 60/40, rather than 85/15.

Ayep, just to clarify, we're not Orthodox. The United Catholic Chuch / Church of Sarmatia is more "Anglican" i.e. "kind of Catholic, but not subject to Tibur".
