Preparations Begin for Feast Day of Sainte-Elisabeth
King to call for solidarity and respect for all communities on national holiday.

12 December 2011, last updated 0431 local time

The Minister for Culture, Arts & Sports, Baron Casseus, estimates more than a million citizens will come to the capital on Friday for the festivities.

The Feast Day of Sainte-Elisabeth, Cœurléon’s patron saint, is one of the largest national holidays. The holiday could be traced to the early 1500s, when it was announced the “heroine of Dojeine” would become the national patroness. Traditional celebrations include a candlelight vigil. Beginning in the 1800s the king of Cœurléon would pay for a public banquet in the capital square.

“This year’s menu will include more than 200 gallons of wine, 1,000 pounds of meat, and the production of enough bread to feed at least half the capital,” said Maurice de Clerc, head of the palace’s court protocol. “More than five local confectionaries have been asked to produce more than 200 five-tiered cakes.”

Per tradition, the king and his family will stay the night before at the Palais National, located in front of the capital square, where he will receive petitions for review. Before the banquet begins on Friday he will give a speech. This year he has chosen to ask for respect and solidarity among all communities of the nation, a request which comes after five gay men were attacked outside a club last week inCôez.

Petitioners camp-out for King
500 individuals are already camping out on the streets near the Palais National

15 December 2011, last updated 0303 local time

Palace officials confirmed the king personally requested the capital’s chief constable to not order the removal of camped petitioners from the square.

King Louis X will receive the petitions prior to the public banquet in a semi-formal Court of Petitions.
Due to the high volume of petitioners camping out in the capital square, it was announced this morning the public banquet would be moved to the nearby Place le Roi. The Constabulary confirmed there would be emergency services provided throughout the night. The economy appears to be on the minds of many petitioners, most of whom are asking for funds to pay bills or tax pardons.

“I’m excited to see the King,” said Miguel Caen, 52, of Montézibar. “I hope His Majesty will grant my petition for my daughter to receive a grant to pay her college fees to continue her studies in medicine.”
His Majesty, along with Queen Isabelle and their children Princess Marguerite and Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, are expected to arrive at the palace later this afternoon.

A palace spokesman also confirmed the king made a royal decree during a meeting with the Royal Council of State to allow the consorts and widows of monarchs to receive petitions on the Crown’s behalf throughout the year. This would permit the present Queen Mother to hold her own Court at her official residence in the southern city of Montézibar. Although she will not be present at the ceremony on Friday, she is expected to be in the capital to celebrate in a private ceremony with her family.
The Minister for Culture, Arts & Sports, Baron Casseus, estimates more than a million citizens will come to the capital for the weekend festivities.

RSRC - Curlan Separatists Arrested

Curlan Separatists Arrested
20 members of a radical separatist group were arrested this evening in an attempt to blow up the main railway system

20 December 2011, last updated 1242 local time

The individuals aged from 17 to 38, all of them from Montézibar.

A high-ranking government official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the nature of the investigation, stated the main railway system was the target. The national railway saw its highest volume over the weekend for the Feast Day of Sainte-Elisabeth. A secondary target has been presumed to be the Palazzo di Montézibar, the official residence of the queen dowager. All the royal residences were put on high alert with additional visible security.

“I noticed the extra guards at the Palais Royal,” said William Notela, 32, from Aix-en-Condé. “I thought it was because they [the royal family] were all there.” The bomb plot was discovered by security services after a tip led them to an internet café in the Canto district of Montézibar. According to employees, the group met over the summer almost every day but slowly “died out” their time at the location. Over the past three weeks one of the members, presumed to be their leader, began sending messages from the café.

“He was charming,” said one café staff worker. “But he was always secretive…never talked about his family, friends or even going away for the holidays.” It was unconfirmed whether the tip came from staff members or patrons. On Thursday afternoon a coordination between the Crown Security Service, the Crown Intelligence Service and the local constabulary of the gendarmerie began their search. After decoded the messages it was discovered a bomb was to be placed at the Marquez junction near Borbone. The bomb was discovered after one of the group members, who went by the name of 868Tazzo, was on-board a train early Friday morning to Borbone. A coded message was delivered to the 19 other members, directed them to meet back at the café. Agents were in place to arrest them. There have been long-standing friction between the northern, Cœurlois and southern, Curlan populations.

“This is another example of the continued cultural divisions between the Curlan and Cœurlois,” said Dr. Antonia Sciriava, a professor of Intercultural Studies at the Olympia Institute. “Their actions should be dealt with under the law, but we should also bring cultural and political leaders to the table to discuss how the nation must go from here.”

An official spokesman for the Curlan Nationalist Party denounced the actions of the separatist group. However, they believe like Dr. Sciriava the necessity for leaders to promote positive intercultural relations. Prime Minister Philippe Coidavid is scheduled to host an emergency meeting of the cabinet later today.

Curlan Separatist Group Named
Government also prepares immediate response on the 20 individuals arrested

20 December 2011, last updated 0549 local time

Called the Light of Curlan (Luce di Curlan), an online message sent on a social media site confirmed their responsibility for the foiled bomb plot.

20 individuals were arrested in Montézibar on Sunday afternoon.

Although their plan was to disrupt the national railway line, the message posted stated they had no intention to kill passengers but “should there have been casualties” they deemed it a regrettable necessity “in the fight for our autonomy.” Meanwhile, the government has declined further comments on the foiled plot, but has announced the arrestees will be arraigned this morning. It was decided charges would be brought before a magistrate in the constabulary in Montézibar. Among them is seventeen-year-old Armand Disannde.

“I’m a little bit shocked and embarrassed,” Carolina Disannde, Armand’s grandmother, was quoted by the local press in Montézibar. “He was always a good boy, a very good boy. He was suppose to go to Sainte-Elisabeth University in September.”

A press conference is expected to be held this morning after Prime Minister Philippe Coidavid meets with his cabinet. His office released the names of the individuals. A majority of them were male, white, and most were from affluent households. All of them either attended or attending universities, while one was an accountant.

Prince Royal Comes Out
In a rare public interview, the heir to the throne announced his longterm gay relationship.

20 December 2011, 0913 local time

His Royal Highness The Prince Ferdinand-Philippe was being interviewed by Olive1 Television, airing at 8:30 tonight.

The interview was originally to discuss his future duties as king, as well as announce his plans to increase official duties. But, after an indirect question made by the hostess the prince responded confidently.

“Yes, as a gay citizen I believe the law should be applied equally,” the prince responded.

After a ten-second pause, the prince smiled and continued the interview. Towards the end of the broadcast the interview again returned to his private life. Prince Ferdinand-Philippe stated he had been in an “almost three year” relationship with a former classmate from the University of Saint-Henri, where he received his degree in Economics and International Studies. Although he did not disclose his name the prince stated his boyfriend was a “a Curlan who loves his culture and his language.”

This is the first time a member of the royal family has come out publicly, although royal historian Wilhelmina LeChase believes this is not the first time for the monarchy to have, as expected, a gay monarch.

“Throughout our history there have been a plethora of homosexual royals,” LeChase said from her office in Borbone. “King Alphonse was reported to have had several male intimates at his court, as did Francois IV. There’s also a growing consensus that Phillip I, the founder of the royal dynasty and the kingdom, also had a male lover.”

But should the Prince Royal succeed to the throne, she added, it would complicate political policies.

“It is highly unlikely that the future king would marry a woman. Should he wish to be with his current boyfriend it would force the government to rethink its position on same-sex marriage.”

Enric Morez, professor of political theory at the University of Saint-Henri, added that the issue also poses a constitutional issue. Should the government not concede to his wish to marry he may decide to abdicate.

“Although it is highly unlikely for the government to go against the wishes of the monarch, should he receive a more social conservative cabinet he [the monarch] would have to agree with their wishes.” Morez also discussed the prospects should the government allow the first royal gay wedding.

“The bigger issue would be how to treat the first gay royal consort,” Morez retorted. “What will his title be? How will he be ranked in the order of precedence? And, most importantly, will he be received by visiting and foreign heads of state who may not oblige with the issue?”

A recent poll done by Cannadine Research Institute suggest more than half the population supports the same-sex marriage.

King receives Altai Ambassador
Government to send humanitarian aid to the Principality this weekend

22 December 2011, last updated 0646 local time

Altai Ambassador Sorin Sokolov was received by King Louis X at the Palais Royal yesterday evening.

The Cœurléonean government is coordinating a humanitarian effort with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide temporary relief for victims in the coastal region of Altai. The region was hit by incendiary bombs earlier this week.

“The government is donating at least 2.4 million Coeur (1.5mn Euro) in food packages and medical supplies,” said a senior government spokesperson Wednesday afternoon.

Although there are no official numbers on the death of civilians, environmentalists fear the long-term effects of the attack, including the destruction of vegetation and quality of water. An environmentalist group based in Sainte-Elisabeth fears it may make the region unsuitable for living.

Aid is expected to be sent beginning on Monday.

DULWICH, FRIDAY, 30th DECEMBER 2011

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the King, and Lordships of the Kingdom of Coeurleon.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE KING, AND LORDSHIPS OF THE KINGDOM OF COEURLEON

I am instructed to PRIVATELY EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

Their Lordships of the House of Lords, in absolute co-operation with the Members of the Commons Assembly, have successfully passed an Act of Parliament deploring the steps being taken by the government of our southern neighbour in Sainte-Elisabeth and in affording the King a serious degree of blame for the impertinence of the Government of Gorno-Altai.

It will be strongly asserted that her Engellexic Majesty has felt deeply wounded in consequence of the ignorance displayed by the Ministries of Sainte-Elisabeth; and naturally the Empire of Great Engellex, between whom and the Principality of Gorno-Altai much violent confrontation has lately taken place in consequence of the aggressive advice of Nurnberg to the Czarina, is of course less enthusiastic to allow a partnership of trade and security between us to receive prominence amongst our regional commitments.

It should also be observed especially by your government, that her Engellexic Majesty may possibly go as far, in her displeasure at your conduct, to withdraw his Excellency the Engellexic Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary indefinitely.

However, I am commanded to convey the personal want of the Queen-Empress to implore the King to abandon this folly and return to the reasoned and civilised circles in Preuti-Borussia.

Cabinet summoned to Chamber
Chamber of Deputies to question the Government on Thursday when legislature returns from recess

1 January 2012, last updated 0533 local time

Prime Minister Philippe Coidavid will open the question time.

The request was delivered Sunday afternoon to the Prime Minister’s Office. It was sent by the First Clerk of the Chamber on request of the majority of the lower house.
In recent months the prime minister has faced serious opposition by members of his own party. Last month, the Libéralist-controlled chamber attempted to pass a bill against the government’s policy, but dropped it after it was discovered there were errors in the debate and final reading of the bill.

The government announced plans to send humanitarian aid to the Principality of Altai, which was at war with the Talemantine Empire, on the 22nd of December. An estimated 2.4 million Coeur (1.5 mn Euros) in food package and supplies were to be shipped to the country following the use of unconventional weapons on their coastal region. A ceasefire has been in effect since Christmas Day and is expected to be extended through the early days - or weeks - of the new year. Although the government financed the project it was coordinated with non-governmental agencies (NGOs). The first of the aid was delivered on the 26th of last month.

But, according to a letter published to the Curlan Daily from the Speaker’s Office, it was the prime minister’s attempt at making the king appear supportive of the policy which has garnered much opposition from the lower house. On the 22nd King Louis X, on advice of the prime minister, received Altai Ambassador Sorin Sokolov at the Palais Royal.

“The blatant use of the royal person as a political tool has caused the members of the Deputies, both on the government’s bench and opposite it, to speak out and summon the entire Ministry on its recent actions.” The letter was also written for the nation’s leading Cœurlois newspaper Le Soleil.

It is unclear whether this would force the prime minister to resign or call up elections, which will be called up in May.

SGC Reorganization Begins
The Société Générale de Cœurléon (SGC), the nation’s largest corporation, is to begin its reorganization today.

3 January 2012, last updated 0350 local time

The restructuring will cost the company approximately 80 million Coeur (50.4mn Euros).

The company will reorganize its subdivisions into four groups, each managing its public, transportation, industrial and banking services. Each division would be co-chaired by two members of the board, while the chairwoman retain her position as the company’s CEO. Prime Minister Philippe Coidavid, a vocal supporter of deregulation, called on the company’s board to draft a proposal for gradual privatization of the company. In 2010, the board recommended four steps over the course of five years to fully privatize the company.

“It is in the best interests of this government and this nation to ensure business is fair and free,” the prime minister said before the Deputies in February 2011. “The recommendation by the SGC’s Board is guaranteed to pave the way for better entrepreneurship in this country.”

The first phase is expected to be completed by April of this year. The second phase, which needs legislative support, would allow the government to purchase stocks from the current majority stockholder - the monarch - so as to gain majority control. The third and fourth phases would create new corporations and begin the sales of their stocks on the market. The entire transition is expected to take place by mid-2016.

Minister resigns after comments
The education minister resigned after comments were made about the heir to the throne.

3 January 2012, last updated 0824 local time

Eugene Cogine resigned this morning after making comments at a public meeting.

The minister was attending a student forum at the University of Saint-Henri yesterday evening. A student asked whether the bill regarding the line of succession, to be voted on Thursday, will be approved.

“I don’t know why it is a big deal...we’re going to have a queen on the throne anyway.” the minister responded, an alleged comment toward the Prince Royal. The heir to the throne announced he was gay last month.

The bill was passed in the Deputies in 2009 but remained stalled in the upper chamber by conservative peers. It gained momentum after the chamber received backing from liberals in the chamber, namely supporters of the National Democrats. If passed it would change the succession from male-preference to equal primogeniture, allowing Princess Marguerite to become heir to the throne.

“In an age where women are taken strides in public affairs, it is fair to say the monarchy should adapt as well,” Shelia Docsur, a spokeswoman for the Nat Dems.

A government spokesman refused to comment on Cogine’s comment. Darnelle Spaki, State-Minister for the National Board of Education, will be appointed as the new minister.

Low Growth but Consumer Confidence Up
Despite sluggish economy consumer spending has increased in recent months

The Milnox 30 hit its low of 200 points midday before regaining in the early afternoon. It ended up 32 points.

The Treasury released its latest figures indicated a year-end GDP growth of .3 per-cent for 2011, less than the forecasted .7 per-cent. At the same time, consumer confidence outbeat expectations for a fourth month in a row.

“The national market appears as if its slowly starting to get back on the right track,” said Carl Bronson, an economist for Buxom-Bromley Group. “But it still has a long way to go.” But the global market is still reeling and it may take a while before things come back to normal for everyone. The global market, too, has a difficult road ahead” While he projected a more positive outlook for 2012, the economic recession in the North and the recent outbreak of violence in Himyar has caused price fluctuations for staple commodities.

While retailers felt the pinch in 2011, consumers in recent weeks and months - due to holiday shopping - appeared in throngs in stores. The Chamber of Commerce reported a surge in consumer spending in the last quarter, with more than 3.2 billion Coeur (2 bn euros) spent compared to 1.3 billion the same time in 2010.

“The holiday shopping season of 2011 was one of the biggest in recent years,” Bronson said. “Retailers did whatever they could to bring in customers.” While unemployment stayed relatively the same over the last quarter, Bronson admits, consumers carefully used their credit cards on deals offered by shops. A national advocacy for credit spending reported 72 per-cent of credit card holders used their cards on consumer goods between November and December, up 54 per-cent from the previous year.

DULWICH, FRIDAY, 13th DECEMBER 2011

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the King, and Lordships of the Kingdom of Coeurleon.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE KING, AND LORDSHIPS OF THE KINGDOM OF COEURLEON
I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

A Minister of Dulwich most certainly desires a jealousy of Engellexic influence to exist in the halls of European capitals – so much so that pessimism has replaced blood of our veins; it has become quite impossible to affect an encouragement of restraint in certain corners of Europe for the benefit of universal prosperity and stability, the lack of Engellexic association of European deliberations has left us concerned.

When the Northern Department obtained the dispatches of Coeurleon in respect of economic disappointment, as far as growth is concerned, it was believed that in full disregard of recent and on-going disagreements over the Gorno-Altai Principality I will venture to invite a delegation of the Foreign and Economic Departments from Coeurleon to Dulwich at the earliest opportune.

It is sincerely, as there can be no doubt, our sole desire to encourage a better political environment with the intention of reigniting regional commercial and industrial growth, and by extention, our shared prosperity.

Cuts to Cultural Events
Government to determine how much to decrease spending for major art & culture festivals

The festivals include the HauteCœur, the fashion week in the nation’s capital, the Curlan Art Festival, and the International Film Festival.

Spending cuts are expected to save the government more than 62 million Coeur (39 mn Euro). If passed, the cuts will go into effect in the 2013-14 fiscal year.

The move for austerity comes after a decision by the Minister for Culture, Arts & Sports, Baron Casseus, in an effort to encourage co-sponsorships with the private sector.

“While these festivals highlight the best and brightest in the nation’s art communities,” Casseus said before the Chamber of Peers on Friday. “It is necessary for the government to minimize its expenditures during a time of economic uncertainty.”

A spokeswoman for the minister’s office confirmed part of the savings will be used to extend the Art Communities Fund, a grant program for low-income artists, which was due to expire last month. If approved, the program’s funding would remain intact for another three to five years.

Parliament Dissolved, Elections Begin
The second in his reign, King Louis read a speech before formally dissolving Parliament.

“This session of Parliament has been an extraordinary one since my Accession,” the monarch said. “I am most pleased to see that, at the end of day, my Lords and Deputies have been able to work together for a better, brighter future for the country.”

Elections are expected to be held on 13 July.

Polls indicate the Government may return with a slight majority. However, rumors speculate the incumbent Philippe Coidavid may step down in favor of the Countess de Corza.

PM Steps Down
In an expected political move, the prime minister announced he will step down while the party nominates their first female candidate.

Philippe Coidavid announced he would not seek another term as Prime Minister.

“While I maintain the support of my family, the party and the nation, I shall not seek another term as prime minister,” Coidavid said early Monday morning. Mr. Coidavid is the youngest prime minister in Cœurléonean history. The son of Baron Coidavid, prime minister in the late-1980s, his casual style to government boosted the popularity of his party among the youth during his premiership.

Mr. Coidavid announced he would favor the current foreign minister, the Comtesse de Corza, to the premiership. Confirming she has been a strong supporter of the current government, the Prime Minister stated she had the “experience, leadership and the full support of the party” to stand for the party.

“She embodies various segments of the population. Not only as a woman and noble, but also as a Curlan,” he said during the televised announcement.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office declined to comment on the minister's candidacy.

Prince intends to Rule
Following changes to the succession, the current heir to the throne states he has full intentions to accede to the throne

Prince Ferdinand-Philippe stated it would be a dishonor to the Crown and Nation if he decided not to accept the throne.

The second-born child of King Louis X, he was immediately vested with the honors of heir-apparent upon birth, including the title of Prince Royal and a private land holdings valued at more than 129 million Coeur (81.2 million Euros). But the passage of the Succession Act at the end of the parliamentary session changed the order, giving equal primogeniture rights to the firstborn child of a monarch regardless of gender. A provision was made in the bill to allow the monarch the right to make the law retroactive for his children - removing the prince from heir-apparent to heir-presumptive.

“My father has encouraged me throughout my life and continues to do so,” the prince said during an interview. “I have no intention to abdicate in favor of my sister, nor does my father intend to forsake me.”

Ferdinand-Philippe, 25, announced he was openly gay in an interview late last year.

During the interview with RSRC 4, he stated the Palace has already made a ‘contingency plan’ for his consort’s title. Stating firmly he will marry a man, the consort would be known as “His Royal Highness the Duc d’Espeyrac.”

The same-sex marriage bill was stalled in the Deputies, but is expected to be debated again when the lower chamber reconvences.

King Hospitalized
Hours before departure to Talamantros, King Louis X becomes severely ill.

The Palace confirmed His Majesty was rushed to King Louis IX Hospital late Sunday evening.

It has yet to be released if the king was injured or succumbed to illness.

“Everything has been very quiet on the king’s illness,” said one palace source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

On Saturday, King Louis X hosted a state banquet at the Palais Royal to celebrate his state visit to the Talemantine Empire. Among the guests was the Talemantine Ambassador to Cœurléon and leading members of the local Talemantine community. The king was scheduled to depart from Caylus International Airport.

Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, along with Queen Isabella and Princess Marguerite, will visit His Majesty on Monday.
