The morning fog was intense as the aircraft carrier Dál Riata cut through the water, a squadron of destroyers and cruisers on either side of her. Not even the tall island of the carrier could pierce the top of the fog. The flight deck was quiet as she sailed toward Caorachstyr Island for joint exercises with the Warreic fleet. Everyone knew what it was meant for, the presence of two Batavian destroyers near Warreic territory required a large boisterous response from the Celtic peoples, it was their way of doing things. The sound of the waves and noisy diesel engines could be faintly heard from the bowels of the ship in the quiet command bridge, coupled with the sound of quiet conversation over the RADAR scope built a particular ambience as Captain Scott Kerr looked out the window directly into the fog. He had dreamed of a day where he wouldn’t simply be patrolling a sea directly outside of Bantyr but out there in international waters where anything could happen. He though that day had come when he had enough seniority to take command of the Dál Riata, but it wasn’t until now that he had found the feeling he was looking for. Ships had been detected to the south but a quick radio call determined to be Warreic Navy most likely on their way to Caorachstyr Island as well.

The carrier group took the long route north to avoid trouble with the Batavian and Serenierrian Navies. This netted the crews of the ships a days stay in a smaller Bantyric Naval port where while they re-supplied the men sampled the alcohol and the women. The departure north into a well traveled sea lane used by Warreic and Bantyric shipping companies caused a spectacle to be seen as fishing ships and ships full of shipping containers followed them periodically blowing their horns in triumph and pride as their fleet sailed the cold waters of the north. Moral had been boosted several times as they sailed through the northern Warreic Islands as waving Warreic people could be seen on the shores they passed nearby. The escort of random civilian ships grew and shrank several times during the course of the few days it took to sail around the eastern Warreic mainland. But now in the present they were gone, no more waving people, no more triumphant whistle blasts. Only the hard cold and heavy fog greeted them now.

The fog broke to overcast skies, the blue gray seas slapping against the side of the ship. To the south the Caorachstyr Islands could be seen as well as a few other Warreic ships in the area. Kerr took a few glances through his binoculars; an attack sub was visible a few miles in front of the Dál Riata, its design was common in the Bantyric and Warreic navies. A few flashes from the periscope confirmed it to be the BRN Morrigan. Bantyric subs had been picketing for the fleet, watching for underwater threats. Radio silence was the way Kerr liked it and he was lucky to convince the Rear Admiral to put it into effect, obviously a fleet this size would be easily detectable in any case, but radio waves were to easy to jack in this twenty-first century world and he found that fleet commanders relied on it way too much.

“Officer on deck!” someone yelled cutting through the bridge’s silence. Kerr turned toward the voice and saluted.

“At ease men.” It was the admiral coming up from his quarters to check the command crew of his flagship. He was only a lower half Rear Admiral but Roger Locke acted as if he was in command of the entire First Fleet much to the annoyance of Captian Kerr.

“Sir,” Kerr said, saluting again. “The Caorachstyr Islands are in sight. The Morrigan reports no abnormalities or enemy contacts. Warreic ships have been sighted to the west, they’ve been signaled with intentions.” The Admiral simply nodded as Kerr reported what little there was to report. It would be a long few weeks and to add to that the Batavian government had yet to make a peep about the joint exercise with the Warreic. No doubt the large naval presence near Caorachstyr would prevent any shipping disruption by Batavian intruders, but just like the seas anything could happen and Kerr expected it to.

"So I hear the new term for our long-time alliance of cooperation, defense, and friendship with Bantyr is viewed as 'Celtic Cronyism' suddenly by Suionia?"
"Fucking Mooses, hahaha."
"Dunnae know why the Ri doesn't respond to such aims with 'you can kiss my big pink and white celtic ass, ye Northern Council Imperialist'."

Then the junior officer grinned to the commanding officer of the newest Flagship of the Warreic Navy, the Helicarrier 'Manaan Mac Lir', as he pointed to the ochre, azul, and green banners flapping from their ship and from the destroyers and which accompanied their battle group. "I believe one would call us the third finger o' the hand, Captain, and I believe our grand King is waving us in a way that should tell the entire Northern Council and other Batavian Criminal cronies, 'Pogue Mahone you bunch of southmen!'

It was a joke between Celts, who knew full and well that the Nords called themselves Nordic, when there was not a single Nordic homeland which was higher in latitude than any of the Celtic nations. And as the flags fluttered in the wind, the Bantyric bears could be seen flying over their opponents in these war games, and the games would shortly begin.

The Captain just had to do the ritual which the Brothers Mac Lir had done since their earliest military practice skirmishes. To the bridge, where he would challenge the Leading ship within the Bantyric Fleet's Captain that he and his fleet were true men. Then the games would begin, definitely.

"I didn't know Polar Bear's could swim this far south." blared across the radio.

The jab over the radios netted laughter from all those on the command bridge, the Warreic were known for their quick sarcastic wit and it was nice to know they still had it.

"A polar bear will swim far for food, it just so happens that there seems to be a large amount of helpless weak seals in this area." Captain Kerr quickly radioed back. The bridge filled with laughter again. "An invitation, brother, for dinner on the Dál Riata tonight with the Admiral, myself and my staff before we commence the festivities, what say you?

The Warreic Bridge was filled with laughter for a moment, before they turned to look at the Warreic counterpart of the Bantyric Captain, and his answer was quick, and sarcastic indeed, as well as aimed for humor.

"I would be happy to have dinner upon the Dal Riata, my brother, but you had better show me some of this fabled Caorachstyr Seal, we hounds have yet to see anything but goats in the area."

Kerr smirked as he radioed back. "Well then I will just have to point them out to you when you get over here tonight. Dal Riata out." He un-keyed the mic and set it back into it's cradle before turning to one of his officers. "Ensign, have the flight deck notified of an arrival at twenty hundred hours tonight. Also have cook in the officers mess prepare some traditional Warreic and Bantyric dishes and to break out the scotch.

"Aye, sir." The Ensign saluted and went to call in the orders.

They would drink and eat well tonight in the traditional pre-battle fashion.

The meeting was to begin shortly when the call came. From the Stormmaigh, the city wherein the Warreic navy's headquarters were, the call had come to the Captain of the head ship of the battle group. The war games were to be canceled, and so would the feast. The order had apparently come straight from King Therran himself the battlegroup would leave Caorachstyr guarded by it's normal fleet, and the entire battle group complete with the recently completed Manaan Mac Lir Heli-carrier would be going to Aresura, accompanying diplomatic personel that would be landing in Caorachstyr and landing on the ships from helicopters sent to ferry them onto them- not far after.

The implications were that not only was the battle group there to allow the interim government ['the rebel government'] a chance to have a voice, but also to keep neo-imperialism from Nokanawa at bay, and so too any neo-imperialism from the part of Winchester. The Warreic manifesto within this situation was that the Aresurai were to choose their own way, and so long as they did it peacefully, Warre would support them in this.

Warre would also happily protect international sea lanes, as it was doing in it's own home islands; and all the while giving Serbovia and Touzen a reminder to not attempt to force the hand of the Aresurai. Democracy was not a matter of heavy handedness.

Captain Kerr sat in the Admiral's suite waiting for the arrival of the Warreic Captain. "Been keeping up with the news captain?" The Admiral asked.

"Yes sir, lots of activity and trouble out there in the world these days it's a wonder a full scale war hasn't.." The captain's answer was cut off by the sound of a printer coming to life. The printer quickly spat out several sheets of paper. "What is it Admiral? Wasn't expecting new orders this soon."

The Admiral walked over to the printer and read the new orders. "We are to re-position the fleet to Aresura!"

"Aresura? I heard they were having a civil war but I didn't think the government would deem it pertinent to our operations in the north." The captain wondered aloud.

"Well, The government has been shifting it's policy so as to try and take a larger role in Borean politics, this doesn't surprise me one bit. If we can stablize the Aresurai problem we can show we have sway over Boreas. Apparently the Warreic have also been ordered to sail to Aresura as well according to these reports here. Captain, order the fleet to set sail at full speed and prepare to position around the Aresurai east coast. We are to watch out for any contacts, apparently a Pasila backed fleet is on it's way to Aresura as well." The Admiral ordered.

"Yes sir."

"Also a ship will be joining us along the way with the necessary diplomatic personnel" The Admiral added.

Captain Kerr moved as fast as he could to the bridge finally making it after dodging people in the cramped hallways. "Lieutenant radio the fleet that we are to plot courses to Aresura. We are to make our way there at full speed and join the Warreic fleet. A ship with diplomatic personnel will be joining us on our way there."

"Yes sir, right away sir." The Lieutenant responded quickly carrying out his new orders.

Captain Kerr looked back down toward the page, this was new for him, finally carrying out the foreign policy of his government in a way that might not end well for anyone. He just hoped they knew what they were doing back in Bangleann.
