PEOPLE'S DIRECTIVE MEETS OVER ESCALATING EUROPEAN CONFLICTS
With the intensity of reactionary violence escalating in Europe, there have been growing demands for Havenshire to clarify its position, as for the first time in decades the Homeland is threatened, if at present only indirectly, by the violence of fascists and capitalists in their self-destructive greed.
"This is not the first time that the atavistic and archaic imperialists have thrown themselves into the dire machinery of war." stated eloquent Minister of Information Winston Hope. "Sixty years ago, Europe was plunged into a similar war of destruction, which cast its dark pall even over our own island home. Though Germania and Gallia have been at peace since those dark times, their recidivist regimes have shown their true colours, and once again throw their people and expensive toys into the bloody carnage of an Imperialist war."
Whilst such sentiments have been less forthcoming from other members of the Cabinet, it is clear that there is a prevailing mood of uncertainty here in Westhaven, and the people have begun writing letters to their Representatives demanding immediate action.
The spread of knowledge about the unfolding War in Europe is also a concern for the Ministry of Information, who admit that they have been "caught off-guard" by the ease at which both violent and distressing footage, and also deeply offensive propaganda, can be accessed via the internet. "MyTube and Yourbook in particular have been considered, not for the first time, for a blanket ban. The ease with which impressionable young minds can access such distressing material has long been a hot issue, but we have to concede that the availability of such material has become so ubiqtitous that we must regrettably allow it, and instead focus on fortifying the moral and social will of our children."
Clips of the incredibly brutal and rapid battles occurring between the Engellex Fleet and its targets have also found their way onto social networking sites, as many online have expressed awe at the ferocity such modern technology can unleash. An astonishing current of jingoism also exists amongst many Havenite commenters, who have repeatedly expressed a desire for our own, much vaunted Navy, to "get stuck in."
"We hear all the time about how the People's Navy is the world's greatest and purest. Why the *** aren't we stepping in to save our fellow Proles, and bang some ****ing heads together?" said ClyneFan81.
Whatever the sentiments, it is clear that the War is not something that can be ignored for much longer, and it is hoped that ageing Premier Michael Foot will issue a statement before long.
