Crown Prince denied permission to marry commoner. King's health in question
King Erik has denied the Crown Prince to marry a commoner says Palace sources. Prince Henrik has carried on a very public relationship with ballet dancer Astrid Langkjaer since 1918. The Crown Prince reportedly sought permission to marry earlier this week and was flatly denied. Prince Henrik has since left Tingsted for the remote coastal palace at Olsterholm. Many are speculating at the ongoing father-son feud which has brewed since the end of the Great Contest. Many are questioning if the relationship remains politically viable as the King's health has been rumored to be ill since 1916. The palace has refused to acknowledge any reports on the King's health. However, on Monday the King appeared at the Tingsted Statsopera and appeared to be struggling to walk. The King is scheduled to visit several countries in the coming weeks and to seek new trade deals. The King was scheduled to appear before the Statsgilde on Tuesday of next week. No word has been given as to if the King will still speak.

As funding becomes an ever increasing issue for the Royal Jute Navy, the Statsgilde has cut further funding for the Royal Navy. Statminister Harald Møller has stated that he plans to continue pushing the Statsgilde for cuts as a "large navy is an extravagance and frankly, is anachronistic for our nation. The Jute Navy will continue to be an effective force. But commissioning new battleships and simultaneously allowing old and foreign ships to drain our treasury is unwise".
