Insurgents Attack in Pasha, 13 Dead
Insurgents attacked in Pasha Wednesday, March 3, killing 13 according to official sources. Unity Front officials tell us that the incident occurred shortly after Police received valid intelligence from Citizen Informants which allowed Police to raid insurgent cells within Pasha.

However, insurgents were well armed with automatic rifles and body armor, as well as explosives. Police forces were rebuffed and forced to regroup, allowing insurgents time to seize a nearby office building. Insurgents immediately began to capture hostages, which is when police units mobilized to take the building by force.

Moments after insurgents began executing hostages, police forces gassed the structure and assaulted the insurgents. However, 13 citizens were killed in the firefight, as well as four of the five insurgents. The fifth insurgent, Ashok Talara, was arrested. His trial is expected to begin within the month.

Police have issued statements regarding the incident, and sources within the Pasha PD have suggested that Citizen Informants have provided Unity Front officials with information suggesting a solid connection between the attack on Pasha and the communist fraction in the North. More information as it is released.

Economy Continues Stability, DoI Expansion
The economy has continued to increase at a stable rate despite setbacks, sources within the DoI stated earlier today. The Department of Industry announced that it would look forward to expanding the services sector, as well as direct investments towards the electronics manufacturing sector.

Currently, the Unity Front economy relies heavily upon various exported products, primarily refined oil, aluminum, and consumer products. Despite several setbacks throughout the decades in the Unity Front's ongoing conflict with the communist fraction in the North, the Unity Front has maintained a strong control over it's industrial strongholds and has largely foiled any efforts at sabotage.

The DoI claims that over seventy plots to sabotage the offshore oil fields have been prevented, and over six thousand arrests have been made in the defense of the nations economy since 1943.

The DoI has cited claims to show that the Unity Front dominates the Sinhai economic landscape, the number of poor and starving within the communist fraction has continued to grow, with unemployment having risen to 28%.

The Unity Front claims that it's policy of containing the communist fraction and denying it access to imports is 'winning the war', and refutes citizens suggestions that posture that lifting the siege will cause the communist fraction to collapse entirely.

Unity Front Juggles Politics
The Unity Front continues it's struggle to be recognized as the legitimate national government of Sinhai, despite the ongoing schism between North and South. Unity Front officials cite the fact that the South's economy remains significantly stronger, literacy rates are higher, and standards of living are among the strongest in the region.

However, detractors of the Unity Front within the communist fraction point to the Unity Front's appalling levels of democracy and immigration policies, calling the Front a 'destabilizing element' in the region.

Regardless, Unity Front officials acknowledge the fact that global recognition will probably not be received until a more solid peace has been achieved between the two parties.

The Tsardom of Shcherbatskaya will take aggressive action against the Freedomstate if such expansionist policy is taken in the realm of Varjhal affairs. Varjhal and the Varjhalian people are free from the shipwreck of the Freedomstates' politics and should not be forced into any situation which propagates the failures of one state, moved into another.

The Tsarina gives her personal condolences to the people of Varjhal in these brutal attacks and hopes that their struggles may be solved in a quick and orderly manner. Terrorism is a tragic reality in many nation states and we will stand in union with Varjhalians against such heinous attacks.

Despite Shcherbatskaya threats, we still wish to aid The Unity Front. We have the military strength to aid Varjhal, and we believe that if they wish to have peace in thier nation, that supporting the Unity Front is the quickest way to do this. However if Varjhal does not wish for our aid then they do not have to accept it, if they do accept however, we could have an estimated 10,000 soldiers well-armed and ready to assist in any way Varjhal seems neccesary.

Breaking News
Foreigners Offer Assistance
Inflamed at yesterdays insurgent attacks and the deaths of Sinese citizens, several nations have rallied in support of the Unity Front. The esteemed nations of Freiheit and Shcherbatskaya offered their sympathies for the dead, as well as assistance in rooting out the communist-funded terrorists. The Tsarina of Shcherbatskaya is quoted as saying that she "hopes that [our] struggles may be solved in a quick and orderly manner".

However, President Marjhan Visariya announced that she would not be accepting the foreign aid:
"I, on behalf of the Unity Front, am grateful for the support of those nations that would lend us their hand in our cause to create a lasting peace in Sinhai. This is our duty, however, and it is through the hard work and toil of good Sinese citizens that we will triumph over those evils that seek to bring us down. I would like to thank those Freiheit men and women who would leave their families aside to come assist us, your offer is as generous as any action. Our soldiers will continue their vigilance, and I will see that this threat is ended."

Nationalists in support of the Unity Front support Marjhan in her decision to refuse the foreign aid, and measures are being taken by defense personnel to increase security along the neutral zone with the communist fraction.

Citizens Demand Execution of Ashok Talara
At approximately 2 p.m. today, spontaneous protests were held in the capital, demanding the execution of Ashok Talara. Ashoka Talara, 28, is being held on charges of treason, terrorism, thirteen counts of murder, and conspiring with communists. Despite protests, Unity Front officials stated that Talara would "stand trial for the atrocity he has committed, and will be an example to all those who pretend to fight for peace." Ashok Talara currently faces execution by gunline, and evidence against him is strong enough that the public views any trial as an unnecessary procrastination of justice.

Unity Front officials will continue to question Ashok Talara for any information leading to the arrest of any insurgents within the State. His trial is scheduled to begin on March 6, despite protests from the defense counsel. The judges overseeing the case cited the heinous nature of the crime, as well as Talara's history of anti-government action.

Communist Fraction Denies Connection to Talara
The interim Communist Fraction government of Northern Sinhai has denied today any connection to Ashok Talara, one of the gunmen who Wednesday killed 13 in a firefight in Pasha. This comes as an investigation tying the communist fraction to increasing insurgent activity in the interior continues.

Chairman Suresh, leader of the outlawed People's Independence Party, stated today in a private interview with unnamed sources that he fervently denies accusations that the PIP is connected to the attack in Pasha, and that the death of any Sinese worker is as tragic for the fraction as it is for the Unity Front.

Detractors within the Unity Front call the statement nothing more than propaganda disseminated to diminish the importance of Ashok Talara's trial.

The trial is scheduled for tomorrow, and communists note that the urgency and haste with which the trial is conducted has left the government little time to gather information to provide it's judges, and accuse the system of denying Talara a fair verdict. The Unity Front dismisses the notion that a fair verdict has been denied, and points to the plethora of evidence available as enough to deliver a fair verdict.

Think Tank Has Ideas
A government-sponsored policy institute today delivered it's findings to the Unity Party. The policy institute, named Democratic Sinhai, was licensed by the Unity Party fouryears ago, and has since proposed several reforms which have become actual over the years. Some of these reforms include Citizen Council's, a widely popular reform that has allowed citizens voices to be heard more clearly by the government.

At the turn of the century ten years ago, citizens of Sinhai became increasingly aware of the low democratic expectations provided by the Unity Front. After several protests and harsh government crackdowns, then local Citizen Elect Marjhan Visariya pushed forward a plan through the National Assembly which would stop government actions against the pro-democratic reforms, and promised compromise. This action led Madame President Visariya to her supreme executive position three years ago, and since then she has executed her promises successfully.

Needless to say, the people of the nation eagerly await the findings of the think tank, as well as the President's response.

Though Butuan sympathises with the people and government of Varjhal, as we too have felt the savage nature of communist insurgency, we also caution the against any rushed trial of the suspected terrorist as it may look to be an act of vengence rather than one of justice.

Butuan, On Behalf of the Unity Front
Rājkumār Salamat Lakandula, the Unity Front wishes to reassure the Rajahnate of Butuan that our intentions are noble. It is our cause to pursue rational justice, and not vengeance. While the trial of Ashok Talara is scheduled to begin by tomorrow, our system does not cease investigations during the course of a trial. As the trial is not a contest between lawyers, but an inquest by impartial judges who are tasked with fairly determining the guilt or innocence, we do not view the quick assumption of trial to equivocate to a quick verdict.

Sincerely,
Arun Iyengar

Khalistan, On Behalf of the Unity Front
Our Minister of External Relations, Valavan Shukla, will happily meet with the dignitary of Khalistan at Lahore. It is our hope that we can discuss co-operative solutions in combating rogue elements in both of our nations, as well as discuss options for the creation of a consulate which will allow Sinese citizens to safely travel within Khalistan.

Sincerely,

We understand the need for Varjhal to solve its own problems, however if they find themselves in need of aid, they know were to find it. We Freiheitians have had a history of civil war ourselfs and are experienced at stopping such.

Ashok Talara Trial Begins
The trial of Ashok Talara has begun as scheduled. Reports from within the courtroom say that Ashok Talara has been fully questioned, and that he "appears worn and weary". Other reports suggest that Talara may be bruised as well, however this is just dismissed as poor lighting within the courtroom.

Protests were held outside of the courtroom, protesting the trial of an enemy of the state. The idea is fundamentally based off the Sinese interpretation of the social contract; the people give power to their government, and in return the government protects the people. Ashok Talara, however, has forsaken his contract, and the people do not view that he should be given a trial accordingly. The government has yet to make a decision concerning this issue.

Despite protests, Ashok Talara plead innocent; his defense attorney is likely setting up a defense based on insanity. However, as the crime scene in Pasha closes and evidence available becomes less common, the judges will be forced to look into Ashok's past to determine whether or not his actions fit insanity. It is unlikely that this defense will succeed.

Madame President Announces Reform
Madame President Marjhan Visariya announced today important news that, despite the widely know trial of Ashok Talara, has quickly become the talk of the country. The findings of Democratic Varjhal have been accepted by the Unity Party, and are scheduled to be voted on in the National Assembly tomorrow.

The reforms will give citizens of the nation the right to create referendums for the National Assembly to vote on, significantly increasing citizen participation in government. The only limitation of referendums is that they may not go against or alter the General Law of Sinhai.

Already Citizen Council's throughout the country, most significantly the Citizen Council of Sri Rama, have begun discussing and reviewing the law, and optimism is high.

The law will officially allow Citizens to doctor referendums and sign them; with enough citizen signatures the referendum will be placed on the National Assemblies docket. The National Assembly will then review the referendum, and either deny it or sign it into law.

This is a level of democracy not available in most countries, and is a significant step in Madame President Marjhan's battle to democratize Sinhai.

Military Activity Increases, Skirmishes in Neutral Zone
Military units on the neutral zone have stepped up their activity in an attempt to crack down on communist interaction with insurgents already infiltrated into Sinhai. Reports from sources within the Sinese Defense Forces say that the communist fraction guerilla's attempted to cross the neutral zone, and were promptly fired upon by SDF forces. The communist fraction withdrew before the skirmish escalated.

SDF Military Intelligence units have suggested that insurgents within the Unity Front may actually be communist paramilitary units or trained by the communist proto-government; if this is true then the situation between the Unity Front and the fraction are sure to flare.

The Unity Party has yet to release an official statement concerning the flare of hostilities that occurred late last night, and seems more concerned with the new democratic reforms.

It is merely a suggestion as our experience with such things have shown us that, if done wrong, a savage murderer can suddenly be hailed as a martyr.

Butuan, On Behalf of the Unity Front
Honorable Rājkumār, we understand your concerns and will take every precaution to ensure that such events are not precipitated should such an verdict be reached. However, the Sinese justice system will not be bent to accommodate the politics of rogues who have already forsaken the nation. The trial of Ashok Talara is not a precedent in the Unity Front's long interaction with the rogue communists in the North; and as extremists it is unlikely that any trial of a communist would not be played off by the communist propaganda machine as a martyrdom for the worker's revolution. The Sinese justice system will not show weakness in the face of pressure by radicals.

It is the Unity Party's wish that Butuan understands the Unity Fronts need to stand strong in the face of this communist threat, which has plagued our nation for decades.

Insurgents Attack Debal, Unity Front Retaliates with Air Strikes; War
Insurgents attacked the Commerce District in Debal on Sunday at approximately noon. The attack consisted of no less than six bombings which claimed the lives of more than ninety citizens and wounded over three hundred others. Among those locations attacked were the Debal Citizens Center, the oil refinery, and the Turas Oil headquarters.

The SDF and SSDF began retaliatory attacks shortly after, and have been sustaining the attacks throughout the night. Initial targets were airfields and static radar sites, as well as railroad stations and road connections connecting the North to the world. The SSDF has begun attack power plants throughout the North.

The Unity Front issued a statement early this morning announcing that it would no longer tolerate the continued hostilities of the PIP and their continued persistence in preventing Sinese unity. The Unity Front has announced it's intent to destroy the structure of the PIP and assert it's control over the northern territory of Sinhai.

Madame President Marjhan Visariya stated the intention of the Unity Party clearly today;
"'Self-determination for all people', that is what these Communists call for. And yet they continue to prevent the Sinese people from speaking together, as one. It is time for this malignant warband of the North to be extracted from the nation like a parasite from the host. We have ignored this problem long enough, and we have suffered for our lenience. Now it is time to cut out the cancer, instead of letting it grow and spread. We have been separated for seven decades. It is time for a united Sinhai to be realized."

At 6:00 a.m. Monday morning, the SDF mobilized it's reserves and prepares to begin an offensive against PIP-held Sinhai. The SDF has announced today that it will not attack the civilian population of PIP-held Sinhai, and is looking forward to working together with the northern population is combating the Communists.

Ashok Talara Trial, Protests Monitored
The Ashok Talara trial commenced Sunday, with Judges looking over evidence relevant to the case. The Defense has, as predicted, plead innocent through insanity. Talara is expected to be convicted and executed by firing line.

Despite the war, the Unity Front has allowed controlled citizen protests against the trial, despite wide protests from other citizens throughout the nation. The Unity Front has addressed these counter-protesters by announcing that it is the right of any citizen to protest any action. Resident protests continue to be suppressed.

National Assembly to Vote on Referendum Bill
The National Assembly has prioritized the Referendum Bill and announced that it will begin voting on the bill on Wednesday, March 8. This move was expected by citizen councils throughout the nation, as the popular support for the bill has been higher than any other bill passed by the National Assembly within 2 years.

Polling suggests that over 80% of citizens support the Referendum Bill; and citizen council's throughout the nation have begun drafting referendums and campaigning for funding to hire campaigners to work to get signatures for the various referendums. Several major companies, including Rastha Kor Foundries and Kambas Co., have begun financing these companies according to government financing regulations, which prohibit corporations from lobbying the government.

Mayaland, On Behalf of the Unity Front
We would be happy to host Noah Singh Burns within Sri Rama to discuss the relationship between our two states. Rest assured that despite the newly sparked conflict with the rogue elements of our state, they are and will continue to be isolated in the north, and security will be optimal. If this is not agreeable, then we would happily be hosted in a location more preferential to yourselves.

Air Strike Hits PIP, Chairman Suresh Suspected Killed
Air strikes against PIP-held Sinhai have continued for the second night, with initial priority targets having been satisfactorily destroyed, SSDF officers stated today in an interview in Kurasprastha. "We have moved on from attacking key infrastructure and military sites, and are now prioritizing proto-governmental structure in an effort to destabilize PIP's hold on the North."

SSDF officials also stated that strikes against Sai Yok, the administrative center of PIP-held Sinhai, may have claimed the life of Chairman Suresh, leader of the PIP, as well as other notable members of the party. SSDF officials insist that air strikes are being used with precision in order to minimize civilian casualties, however they have not stated whether or not civilians would be taken into account when commencing future strikes against targets of opportunity.

Referendum Bill Becomes Law
The National Assembly voted today to sign the Referendum Bill into Law, signalling dozens of citizen councils throughout the nation to begin moving forward to gather signatures at the citizen councils, as well as on the streets.

Notable referendums include:
Liberalizing gun control, legalizing prostitution and pornography, removing the bans on smoking and 'soft' drugs, increasing citizen rights to defend their property, creating environmental protection laws, and expanding military education. The National Assembly has stated that they look forward to citizen referendums, but caution that while referendums will be permitted, they are not guaranteed to pass. The UBN will continue to monitor the progress of these referendums.

Council of Nations Denies Batavie Assistance
The CoN has refused to provide the junta in Batavie assistance in it's upcoming elections. This surprising apprehension and animosity to democracy seems to originate from the Levantine States, who are concerned with the affiliation of states proposed to assist Batavie.

The Unity Front has expressed it's sympathy with Batavie, as it also knows the necessity for democracy. Whether or not the CoN will reverse it's move and assist Batavie will be an issue the UBN will continue to watch.

SDF deploys to the North, PIP withdraws to Mathurah
The SDF has deployed ground forces in Northern Sinhai in an attempt to attack the People's Independence Party on the ground and re-assert Unity Front control over the region. The operation consists of 30,000 soldiers and is the largest offensive action the SDF has undergone in nineteen years.

Despite SDF predictions, PIP resistance has thus far been minimal. Twelve towns were taken overnight, each welcoming the SDF with signs of praise, Sinese communists eager to abandon affiliations with the PIP. The SDF has begun deploying humanitarian units to captured regions, distributing food supplies and clothing to the region of the country that has been economically isolated for six decades.

SDF intelligence has re-evaluated PIP actions and believes that the PIP has lost significant support from it's population and has retreated to the administrative capital of Sai Yok.

Commentary: Reasons for the Collapse?
Why could the PIP regime have been weakened to such a point? This is a question many of us will ask ourselves in the future, as we study the history of our country. The PIP has reigned over Northern Sinhai since the collapse of the Augustists in 1951, and has implemented a strict form of communism that has left the region of the country economically and politically isolated in the wake of Jizhou's fall.

The economy of the north has been defined in recent years by it's growing poverty, it's lack of widespread industrialization combined with it's reliance on subsistence farming leading to a country that would only suffer more by allowing the global economy to enter.

Within the past two years, though, the economy has been ravaged by continuous drought and crop failure, leading to growing famine and the depletion of food reserves. The drought resulted in dry vegetation as well, and several fires have destroyed large swathes of the country.

The recent increases in insurgency activity may be related to PIP posturing to increase the popular support for their regime, as communists they support global revolution. Regardless, Northern Sinhai has been economically devastated, and may take several years to recover, though the society is likely scarred by continuous famine and economic isolation.

Referendum Hits the Floor, Stir in National Assembly
In astounding news today, a referendum has within two days accumulated the required number of signatories, putting it before the National Assembly much quicker than the National Assembly had predicted any referendum to be completed.

The referendum is titled "Presidency Revised", though it is becoming known as Referendum Zero because of the unexpected quickness which it came to appear before the National Assembly, is doctored to the effect that our current Madame President would revoke the current Unity Party law that prohibits a President from maintaining their office for more that twelve years.

The referendum, written by Ahrakor Third Citizens Council, also significantly increases the power of the Presidency, granting the President veto powers against National Assembly, as well as making it a criminal offense to make derogatory remarks concerning the President.

It should be noted that the referendum was written shortly after the Referendum Bill was signed into law, and that Madame President Visariyas popularity is the highest legitimately recorded in Sinese history. The referendum itself has met with surprising popularity in the National Assembly, the Presidium of the National Assembly, however, which retains veto rights, has not expressed a clear opinion on the referendum.

SDF Presses Onward, Sai Yok Beseiged
Despite slowly increasing resistance for the SDF, our Armed Forces are making excellent progress in their offensive campaign in the North. With PIP forces surrounded and trapped in the Sai Yok pocket, SDF forces are effectively besieging the city while materials are gathered for an offensive that is likely to uproot the established government and replace it with Unity Front control.

Little has been heard from the PIP since the SSDF strike hit the structure known as the "People's Seat", but it is unlikely that resistance in Sai Yok will be as light as it has been in the northern Sinese countryside.

Though still light, reports of increasing resistance are coming from along the Tamal Mountains to the north, closer to the Viet border, as PIP affiliated units flee to less developed terrain and where it will be difficult for SDF forces to destroy them.

Northern Sinese Unsatisfied With PIP Government
After several interviews with Northern Sinese yesterday, it has been determined that public dissatisfaction with the communist proto-government in the North is very high. There are rumors that the ex-communists are in talks with Unity Front officials to request amnesty and possible rights to citizenship, as well as full integration into the State. These rumors are, as of now, unfounded.

The Unity Party, however, stated that it was considering many options regarding the reunification of Sinhai, a goal that has been the Unity Party's namesake since the 1943 War. Madame President Marjhan put the Unity Party's agenda into a simple statement: "If we see an opportunity to unify our nation, we will. The time for war is drawing to a close, we need to embrace our lost brothers as family, we need to work hard for the betterment of all Sinhai."

Insurgents in the State, Police Crackdown
In the wake of the war with the PIP, insurgents have begun initiating attacks throughout the State, and authorities suspect more attacks are to follow within the week. The SDF is already considering the options of declaring martial law and a 7 to 7 curfew, but is awaiting approval from the National Assembly.

Three independent strikes occurred last night in the cities of Ahrakor, Abhira, and Vidarbha, claiming ten lives and wounding several dozen others. Police forces throughout the nation, in particular the tehsil of Sri Rama, have begun offering rewards for information that leads to the capture of insurgents and other enemies of the state.
