Oswald Ceawlin King to Head Committee for Thaumantic Alignment

New Westellex Senatorial Scion and TA&E Exec tapped by Drummond House to bring Beautancus into the future

(Fair Market) The Orton Administration has been the most vocal supporter of the great enterprise of political reunification within the Thaumantic Domain since its ascent to Drummond House in 2012, and after today is another step closer to realizing the dream.

According to sources close to the Executive Office, His Excellency, First Citizen Orton traveled to Fair Market, capital of the Commonwealth of New Westellex on Friday, in order to personally meet with his top-pick to oversee the process of Beautancus' integration into the League of Four Nations. At 42, Senator and eldest son of the preeminent political dynasty of New Westellex, Oswald Ceawlin King's name had been the favorite among those on a very short list Drummond House had been considering to chair the Committee for Thaumantic Alignment. For many in Welmonton this comes as a welcomed, if not entirely unexpected relief.

Speaking at a small press conference held at Home Farm (the King Family's New Westellex estate) once Mr. King's agreement to accept the nomination had been given, the First Citizen had this to say,

"I feel that Oswald - Mr. King, or I suppose Chairman King now if you prefer - has a better eye and ear for the inner workings of the Thaumantic Domain than many men almost twice his age. We've got a better idea of what Beautancus is looking at to make the League a reality than some of our other partners, but it will still take a fair bit of work to get us there. Mr. King's time at TA&E has provided him with the experience and perfect model for how to do that."
Mr. King will assume the duties of his new office as the Chairman of the CTA immediately, with plans to establish a base of operations in Statesboro already in the works. Similar efforts are already underway in Engellachia, overseen by Dictator Heydendahl, and should begin in the League's other two founding member-states, Clarenthia and the Southern Constituent Republics within the month.

The League of the Four Nations of the Thaumantic Domain, as the Engellkin Union will be officially known, promises to formalize and institutionalize the sense of kinship that has already allowed for such unprecedented cooperation in commerce, culture, defense and intelligence, multimedia and science in the Western Thaumantic Horizon. This initiative comes 178 years after the original separation of the Old Confederacy from the First Republic, with the promise of bringing the history of the Thaumantic People full-circle.

We would like to inquire whether Dr. Koscialkovski could also visit Trier. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet when Chancellor Rheinfeld returns from Kashtan, and His Majesty King Albrecht is currently not able to receive guests, but we as the Government of Eiffelland-Retalia feel that we have to explain some things to the Government of Beautancus. Dr. Koscialkovski will be welcomed to Eiffelland-Retalia under diplomatic status, and he will be the personal guest of Vice-Chancellor Fritschler, who will act on behalf of Chancellor Rheinfeld.

We read about the investigations by the Masonic University of Chicora regarding a new treatment against Malaria, and we are very much interested in it. Given the fact that resistance against the current Malaria treatments is on the rise, we have to continue to develop new treatments. Attacking the sporozoites before they enter the liver cells is something we have been working on as well, but we were not successful in that.
We would like to cooperate with the Masonic University of Chicora in order to develop this new medication further.

First Citizen in Elephant & Castle for Address on the Burgundian Intervention

The Unified Armed Forces of the Domain are working to liberate the failed proto-state of Neustria - westernmost of the Post-Burgundian taifa - as the forces of nihilism advance from Pillau and farther East - the Leaders of the League Speak

(Elephant and Castle) In their first meeting since the conclusion of the Summit at Banner Elk, Their Excellencies, First Citizen Orton and President Underwood appeared in Longacre Square to deliver twin-addresses earlier today, before one of the largest audiences ever recorded by Thaumantic multimedia. Rough estimates have it that 2.5 million South Engells were on hand to hear what the leaders of the Thaumantic Domain's largest two constituents had to say regarding the recent, and as some have called it - "shocking," joint-police action precipitated by the ongoing collapse of Gallia's (former) preeminent power, Burgundy.

Those lucky enough to be present today were treated to fly-overs by quartets of every aircraft of every classification in the combined-inventories of the Thaumantic Domain, as well as broadside salutes by four of the "Living History Battleship Museums" operated by the Navies of Beautancus and the Engellexian Republic. Chosen in each case to represent the united industrial and military might of the League of Four Nations, there could be no more appropriate accompaniment for the spirit of the addresses that would follow.

President Underwood, as stunning as ever in a smart Thaumantic Blue number that is sure to set trends for a season, was somehow even more impressive on the stump. With her message amplified threefold by the building-sized screens behind and to either side, Her Excellency drove right for the heart of the matter in saying that "...whatever future awaits the Civilized Order of Nations, it will be decided in part by the Thaumantic, and it has been a miscalculation most grave to ever assume the Domain would ever be a passive observer of this madness. It is lunacy to think we would sit idle, as a Tide of Proletarian Anarchy charges toward the Engellsea."

The First Citizen echoed her sentiments later, linking the current state of shock common to many in the international community to the "historical bigotry shown towards Engellexican Civilization by the Fictionals of the Old World." Driving even further, His Excellency stated in the plainest Engellisc that: "They would rather pretend that we didn't exist, ignore our achievements and the great progress we have made here - in a New World we have remade in our own image. They envy us the strength of our convictions and the obvious utility of our institutions, and they project onto us their own self-loathing, for lacking the conviction to do the same themselves! We cannot allow their inattention and unwillingness to confront reality let the specter of cultural nihilism and proletarian dictatorship rise up in such strength, so near to the very Heart of Thaumantic Civilization! Our eyes are open, and we are no more fearful of what must be than were our ancestors before us!"

Though it would be some time before the roaring applause from the crowd filling Longacre quieted enough for the First Citizen to continue, he spoke directly to the resolve of the League of Four Nations on the matter of Burgundy. "The lesser principalities and competitor powers of Gallo-Germania have squandered a year and more on their petty squabbles, trapped now as ever in a mindset of vulgar medievalism. We are as committed to the liberation of the Burgundian people from this state as we are to preserving them against the relentless advance of International Communism. If the world thinks what it has seen in Ouistreham so far is something, just wait til they lay eyes on the wonderland we will leave behind in our passing. Nothing is ever going to be the same."

Admiral Speier, Grim Tidings & 1st Fleet to Join Burgundian Intervention - Already on-station and at maximum readiness levels as a result of the early Summer Justosian Crisis, the Thaumantic Fleet is often regarded as Beautancus' single greatest concentration of force. Highly regarded Admiral Heracles Speier was recently tapped to command the 1st by CNO, Lord First-Admiral Erskine Hadley as part of the wider shake-up in the service's brass that began with Lord Admiral Hadley's own appointment some months ago. With Admiral Speier commanding from the Gogmagog class Grim Tidings, a number of new possible avenues will be opened for League Armed Forces operating in West Burgundy...[cont'd]

Worst Timed Hair-Brained Shakedown Ever- Swallowed by news and live combat-feeds, the Vrijpoort Affair appears to remain unresolved as yet. Sensational rumors, a number of faked leaks, countless retractions and several dozen international lawsuits are but a few of the least serious consequences of the arrest of number of Engellkin businessmen in Nedernesia, among them two Cussians. No verification of the authenticity of supposed "evidence" has been made, and the State Foreign Service is reportedly "quite displeased" with the degree of difficulty the are having in communicating with the northern territory... Silvercreek Lion Pride Successfully Evacuated from Path of Wildfire - More than half a million acres of croplands and Upcountry woodlands have already been claimed by the hellish advance of the "Buckroad Fire" through the Commonwealths of New Westellex, Vance and Wrenn over the past three days, and firefighters and jumpers are concerned that wind conditions are going to make it even harder to slow down. With the fire projected to overtake the region of lightly wooded transitional prairie around Silvercreek, famous for the wild pride of Cussian (or Occidental) Lions named in its honor, Wildlife Service personnel had to act quickly to safeguard these precious national treasures... More than 30,000 people in and around the capital of the Cape Commonwealth reported hearing and/or seeing "the booms and fiery lights in the sky" over a period of time local PBS outlet CCNT 9 estimated at "15 minutes or so, beginning just shy of midnight." UCS Pres. Dane Black & Gardens of Gabood to Organize Impromptu Charity-Ticket - In a move the more jaded insiders in Middle Plantation are calling a "shameless attempt to promote UCS 277 using the suffering of others," the premier MMA League's President, Dane Black, has announced plans for a four-ticket card at the Gardens of Gabood Casino & Arena - next Friday night. The UCS boss and representatives of the Azraqi-bankrolled casino were at a joint press conference last night, outlining plans to dedicate 60% of the proceeds to charitable organizations dedicated to assisting with the relief effort in Burgundy - and talking up the still relatively new venue. Black revealed that top billing was going to promising Middleweight up and comers Travis "Minotaur" Darden - a monstrous striker and wrestler from Chicora, and Crotian-born shinboxer and submission artist, Marco Orcrop, a match he admitted to "wishing he could jam into 277 somehow." ... The Passing of a Legend, Howard Rutgers, Dead at 79

Hyperlords Fans Come Together to Honor the Memory of Rutgers, Famous for Portraying 2nd Hyperlord, Honorato the Bold

(Kitchen Hill) Fans of Speculative Fiction throughout Beautancus and beyond were shocked and saddened by news of the passing of Howard Rutgers, aged 79, earlier today. No details on the cause of the beloved star of the big and small screens, but Stewart Rutgers - eldest son of the deceased - was on Twatter this evening to thank fans for the outpouring of support and to say that his father passed away at home, surrounded by his family.

Rutgers was a Cape native, and resided therein, between Cape Fair and Kitchen Hill for the whole of his professional life, which began in the heady days of the 1960s during the "2nd Golden Age of Cussian Cinema." Beginning his career working with industry legends Lonnie Donovan and Marcus Warner, Rutgers has long remained among Kitchen Hill's most awared, beloved and respected leading men.

Best known for his portrayal of Honorato the Bold, 2nd of the titular Hyperlords in the SpecFic epic and decades-spanning television series Saga of the Hyperlords. Enjoying one of the longest runs of any of the two series leads (Series 4-8 between 1970-1975) Rutgers is often credited with cementing the place of the genre in Cussian popular culture. Rutgers was predeceased by co-star Isabella Rehnquist (who played Arrandessa, Consort-Prime of Honorato) by three years, though the two are reported to have remained close for as long as she was alive.

After spending much of the 1990s in semi-retirement, Rutgers career was reignited in 2001 with his Huascar-award winning performance as Lt. Darby Caliver in The Woman in the Deepest Bunker. In much the same fashion that Hyperlords is credited with the genesis of Cussian Speculative Fiction, "Deepest Bunker" is regularly cited as having reinvigorated the genre through the popularization of the Counterfactual in visual media.

Rutgers' most recent and final performance aired in December of 2018, with his return as Honorato for PBS' 9th Hyperlords Misrule Special. Cast and crew alike noted that Rutgers made the absolute most of this last adventure, for which the Kitchen Hill veteran was joined by all seven of the other, former Hyperlords - and their most recent successor, "Nameless," portrayed by up and coming lead, Dustin Springer.

When contacted for comments on Rutgers' passing, long-time friend and manager Brett Copperstone noted that "the analytics I've seen from Natflick indicated that as soon as word of his passing hit the internet, Hyperlords flew to the 'most-viewed spot.' I can't think of anything that would've made Howard happier."

Top Stories for Monday, 5th of August

TAC Chairman Oswald King in Palmerton for League Talks -
Recently named Thaumantic Alignment Committee Chairman Oswald King received a somewhat mixed welcome in the Clarenthian capital of Palmerton today, for the first of several days of discussions on wider Thaumantic Alignment among the League's four constituent nations. Popular demonstrations against the League's ongoing Joint-Intervention in the Burgundian Crisis have only served to exacerbate many of the Commonwealth's opposition leaders and lawmakers already quite outspoken disapproval of the reunification of the Domain, none of which has escaped the note of policy-makers in Welmonton.

It is likely the hope of the Orton Administration that Chairman King's prior experience and deep family ties in Palmerton will be of some use in assuaging the worst of the opposition's concerns over the matter of Thaumantic Alignment...[cont'd]

Progress Secretary Dismisses Concerns over Potential Trumm Tariffs -
Accustomed to dealing with the often misunderstood nature of the Cussian Human Commodity System in his two decades with the Department of Progress, Dr. Farnham Leary is "unimpressed" with threats of tariffs from the SWR's Trumm Administration. "This isn't the first time some two-bit Pinko Demagogue has attempted to extort our nation into lawlessness, and it won't be the last. These villains who attack our legal institutions without the faintest idea of what they [our institutions] are -or the unparalleled, transformative benefits they provide to the urban poor - these people are more interested in introducing chaos into our society, so they can exploit it for their own gains. We are better and smarter than that, we can and will outlast them in every case."... [cont'd]

Continued Political Instability in Himyar "Closely Observed" by Welmonton -
While the ongoing Crisis in Gallo-Germania has taken precedence in receiving Welmonton's attentions over the last few weeks, the worsening political climate in Himyar has not escaped the notice of the Orton Administration - or Mint Hill financiers.

The abdication of Pelasgian Emperor Isaak Laskaris, and subsequent reluctance of the Imperial Senate to elect a successor or name a regent only compounds the tensions within the ancient West Himyari power and longtime Cussian trade partner. While the declaration of a Pelasgian Republic would be greeted as a victory for liberty by many around the Domain, Welmonton has often taken a more nuanced and pragmatic view on the value of the stability the institution of the Imperial Throne has brought to the country historically.

The situation in East Himyar is no better with Beautancus' primary non-Engellkin trade partner, Azraq. Prince Dalmar, scion of the influential Haradhera Dynasty, is embroiled in a scandalous international, inter-Fictional romance that threatens the stability of two empires. Racial tensions have not been higher in the country for some decades, with Shamo and other Nethian groups...[cont'd]

Severe Weather Brings Widespread Power Outages to Chicora, Clarendon -
Thunderstorms and torrential rains blew through the Eastern Coastal Plain today, downing trees and powerlines and inundating roadways for several hours and reportedly spawning two funnel clouds. Hardest hit was the town of Wolfscrape in Waylin Prefecture of Chicora, where winds toppled the belltower from the District Courthouse and damaged the local school's gymnasium. More than 35,000 residents of Chicora and 12,000 in Clarendon remain without power this evening, as crews race to repair...[cont'd]

August Midway News Round-up

Burgesses Debate Switch to Republican Calendar Only -
Every school child in Beautancus can tell you what year it is in two different ways, according both to the Fictional dating system used throughout the Old World and the more precise and culturally pertinent Republican Calendar. For the former, it is drawing near to the final quarter of 2019, and for the latter it is only just barely 463.

Official documents to be circulated on the provincial levels typically only ever use the Republican System, but State Government, military and State Foreign Service documents have used both dating systems since time immemorial. Ramses Buncomb, junior Burgess for the Norman River wants to change that.

"Given the present state of affairs in the world, and the apparently unavoidable Contest of Civilizations facing Beautancus and the Domain, we have to ask ourselves what good it actually does to continue to humor these people in these ways...

Seymour Jensen AFB at the Forefront of Continuing Support for ODoD -
While the rest of the world continues to dither and navel gaze, Beautancus and her allies and partners in the League of Four Nations maintain the full tenacity of their commitment to the principles the Domain was founded upon. Chicora's own Seymour Jensen AFB, located two miles outside of Jamesboro, is taking the lead in the combined efforts of the Cussian, Clarenthian, Engellachian and South Engell Armed Forces in ensuring that the tide of manpower and materiel flowing across the Thaumantic maintains the pace necessary for achieving an unquestionable victory.

In what some analysts are dubbing "the largest continuous military airlift in modern history," hundreds of aircraft have been funneled to, loaded and funneled right back out of Seymour Jensen in the past weeks. A feat of nearly stupefying proportions, Base Commander General Freyr Crane is confident the Air Force can maintain this level of intensity...

SFMT Officials Reportedly "Very Unhappy" Over TEZ Engelsea -
The days when the State Foreign Mercantile Trust dominated the news out of Statesboro weren't that long ago, no more than a year and most and not even in some cases. The strange effects of the prolonged hypervigilance Cussian investors have experienced over the summer, coupled with grim quarterly prospects from almost every major regional market around the globe - and we find the captains of industry and counts of commerce pulling the levers at the SFMT in a particularly curious state.

Word out of Mint Hill and the Office for High Custom in Statesboro in the latter part of this week has been that the country's largest mercantile syndicate is placing enormous pressure on the Orton Administration to reduce or suspend the recently imposed Total Exclusion Zone in and over the Engelsea and West Burgundy "as soon as fucking possible."...[cont'd]

First Citizen Dismisses Implarian States "Self Interested Doublespeak"

Red Sheep of the Engellkin Family Continues Meddling in West Gallian Crisis - in which it has no stake - Attention Seeking, Saber-Rattling, or something more serious?

(Welmonton) Appearing to be more bemused by the announcement of the Implarian States' refusal to respect the imposition of TEZ Engelsea than anything, His Excellency took the time to address the nation's growing concerns with its southern neighbor this afternoon.

Already scheduled to speak before an assembly of elder-jurists and orators at the Midengell Nativist Convention Center, First Citizen Edward Orton merely incorporated the development into the remarks he'd already prepared, with further insights offered during a short Q&A afterwards.

"It's not exactly like we're not well accustomed to being greeted with this sort of intensely propagandized rhetoric from them [the Implarians], but I think it would be hard for even a passing observer not to note the increasingly erratic behavior from the administration of their recently elected President Trumm."

The recently elected Implarian President was in Welmonton only a week ago, where she and the First Citizen seemed to have gotten along fairly well, and where no such melodrama was apparent.

"Those people [the Implarians] have no interests in the region, where the Domain most assuredly does - the ancient homeland of our Civilization is separated from this contagion of anarchic Misrule by the narrow waters of the Engelsea alone. The Implarians are, well, Implarians [laughs]. Never fail to expect that demagogues and ideologues will happily exploit the misery of others though, to further their own, often nefarious schemes...you just figure the boogers would learn a new trick after a while [more laughter]."

As inflammatory as the rhetoric exchanged between the two Engellkin nations can be, the last decades have been the most peaceful enjoyed in Westernesse by a fair margin. The memory of those days when blood flowed freely on the Southern Frontier has grown dim and distant to the Cussian populace, but it has and continues to shape policy in Welmonton, often dragging lukewarm Cullowhee with it kicking and screaming. A recurrence of such belligerence could only result in destruction the likes of which has never before been seen.

Later asked if the Confederated Republic and wider Domain were concerned with the possibility of an armed conflict with the increasingly combative and openly self-interested Implarian States, His Excellency remained unfazed. "I can't imagine that it will come to that, even given the presently confused state of affairs. There is no indication that Trumm is committed to this business enough to seek an open confrontation, which can and will only go disastrously for the Implarians. We have far more to gain from our neighbors through dialogue than we do through a war of annihilation that will likely see them nearly extinct and a generation of Cussians exhausted...no, if anything, they are as aware of present realities of the Balance of Power in the Far West as anyone, and their obvious self interest will preserve them from dying on this hill."

Domestic News Round-up for September 3rd

Meteorological Service Warns Hurricane Dolan "On Track to Swipe The Cape"

(Cape Fair) - The strongest Thaumantic storm of the year appears to be maintaining a course that will bring it ashore in the NE of the Cape Commonwealth tomorrow. This news has left citizens and officials in parts of Beautancus' SE-most commonwealth scrambling to effect last minute preparations to safeguard the homes and businesses from which they are mandated to flee before the end of the evening.

Officials with Beautancus' Meteorological Service conducted their most recent aerial survey of the now Category 5 Hurricane Dolan just before noon, where they recorded sustained winds of 163 mph (262 kph) on the leading eye-wall of the gargantuan storm.
These tremendous winds are driving wave heights of over 100 ft. (100+ meters) on the open ocean - which officials warn "may translate to a storm surge of 20-30 ft in affected coastal regions," equalling or even exceeding the the floodtide produced by the Implarian-born Typhoon Miquel last year.

Though the Cape Commonwealth has been long famed for its abundance of oceanfront property, historically this association was typically made with the sheltered, paradisiacal sands of the Cassiopeian Sea's beaches - until Typhoon Miguel. With most of the Cape's best Cassiopeian beaches wiped off the map by Miguel last summer, the Thaumantic Coastal region that is now predicted to absorb the brunt of Dolan's fury had, perhaps somewhat ironically, experienced its best-ever summer vacation season.

With the aforementioned destruction and horrors of the previous year firmly affixed in memory, and reconstruction still ongoing in many areas, district and precinct-level governments began to issue localized evacuation orders early this morning. They were joined by the Cape's Lord-Governor Preston Morris in an emergency press conference shortly after 1400, during which he issued a general order for the mandatory evacuation of all precincts in the path of Dolan. The hurricane is now predicted to make landfall near Busco Beach, 84 miles north of Cape Fair on I-59 and roughly 120 miles E/SE of Kitchen Hill (the Cape's capital and most populous city). The affected region boasts a population of more than 8 million, of whom just under half are now being called upon to flee for emergency shelters set up on higher ground inland.

This mandatory evacuation was accompanied by an order for the general mobilization of the Cape's Fire Brigade and Relief Society Emergency Management Contingents, in an effort to "get ahead of the situation as much as we can this time - Dolan is not going to catch us like Miguel did last year, with our damn britches 'round our ankles..." ...

Yamassaw Relocation from Coaree Dominion "90% Complete" Says Marshals Service

(Turkey Courthouse) - Eclipsed by stories of international scale, and slowly drifting from the consciousness of the wider Cussian public in recent months, the court-mandated removal of the Yamassaw people from their remote holdings in the Coaree Dominion has continued apace all the same.

The prideful and warlike Yamassaw, a part of the wider Kamawkee Language Group of the Eastern Woodlands Indigene Culture, were first settled in the lands that would become the Coaree Dominion after their 1813 rebellion against in the Midengell Mercantile Administration. They have been engaged in some form of
intermittent social strife or open insurrection against the Coaree and National Governments for more than 120 years, stemming from the ongoing refusal of the so-called tribal leadership to enforce their host Dominion's legal code and "Standards of Civilization," imposed with the foundation of the Dominion.

Met with dogged resistance from loosely associated clan-based warbands early on, Dominion law enforcement agencies and the Confederated Republic's Marshals Service worked together closely in shutting down efforts of some of the more radical bands to enlarge and expand the scope of the low intensity guerilla conflict. Several small and medium-scale engagements were fought between law enforcement and the Yamassaw throughout the Fall and Winter months, the last and bloodiest of which took place the day after Misrule.

Evidence of foreign assistance being rendered to these would-be Yamassaw insurgents has been discovered on multiple occasions, most likely originating in the Implarian States or Serenierre, according to...[cont'd]

Suspected "Imperial Spy" Apprehended in Cassiopeia City

(Cassiopeia City) - Last Friday's arrest of a "suspicious foreign national" by officers with the Cassiopeia Greater Metropolitan Police continues to baffle many in and around the southern Sea's eponymous commonwealth. Initially taken into custody in the course of an unrelated sting operation focused on a dockside Relief Society clinic, further suspicions were immediately raised by the man's obviously foreign accent and dubious identification documents - leading police to notify the State Service for assistance over the weekend.

Described as "a well-kept, mild mannered, multilingual Germanian man in his 20s" by CGMPD and SSB spokespersons at a downtown presser earlier this afternoon, this individual was operating under the aliases "Vincent, Vincenzo and/or Vinnie," and affecting cover as a Fictional proselytizer of the addicted and downtrodden. A number of associations cultivated by "Vincent" in his time in Beautancus have been identified, with at least three remaining in custody at the time of publication, ostensibly "for further questioning."

Speaking on behalf of the SSB, Deputy Investigator Minerva Harkness explained that "such a controversially fantastical cover is likely to have been chosen in order to throw law enforcement off the trail of espionage. It is a well established ploy in the field to give foreign governments a false story that seems bad enough in its own right, that the true danger of the matter might never be spotted...[cont'd]

Geologists "Perplexed" by Formation of Acidic Reservoir in Mt. Olive Caldera

(Callsport) - Scientists with the Confederated Republic's Geological Survey have remained on the island of Mount Olive and close to the country's largest active volcano since it first roared back to life ten months ago. Those events prompted widespread evacuations of the normally dreamy Cassiopeian Sea island, with many fearing that a potentially catastrophic eruption was merely hours or days away at the time.
Most of the islands residents have opted not to return, even after the first wave of evacuation orders were rescinded.

This seems, increasingly, to have been a wise decision. Spurred by a marked uptick in gas venting and tremors along the inner and outer slopes of the fiery mountain in the past week, images taken during an aerial survey revealed that a large, furiously steaming "pond of liquid" had formed within the base of the caldera. Further chemical analysis of this "pond" revealed it to be a highly acidic compound of ground and seawater, though scientists remain baffled by the mechanisms that deposited this reservoir within a rather infamously active volcano...[cont'd]

Domestic News Round-up for September 10th

Domain Forces to Remain on the Offensive Despite International Communist Meddling

(Welmonton) - With The Domain's Joint Intervention in West Burgundy now well into its second month, and Cussian casualties climbing into the triple figures, the campaign for the liberation of the abandoned Gallian territory faces potentially very dangerous new hurdles tonight.

The Department of Defense has confirmed foreign media reports of the - as some are saying illegal - arrival of the almost entirely Communist coalition calling itself "CONPROFOR" in-theater. Leading this charge, as one might expect, is an enormous expeditionary force sent by the "Prison of Nations" itself - the Kadikistani Union. Long suspected of having been behind the opportunistic treachery of the criminal regime propped up in Pillau, this move seems to all but confirm this as a reality.

Compelled to join in this ill-conceived enterprise also are forces of the Kadiki-vassal, Nitra, heretofore a relatively quiet and unimposing regional player long-since drawn into Ivar's orbit. T
he nation of Ostmark has likewise sent forces, a hasty move for a nation that collapsed into the decay and murk of Socialist Dictatorship only a year ago and is already being dragged into a conflict that could potentially exhaust the whole nation.

DoD maintains each of these so-called powers is in clear violation of TEZ Engelsea, and as such, BURCOM would be well within its legal authority to engage and annihilate each and all as the enemy combatants they seem so determined to present themselves as...[

Clean Up Continues After Dolan, Damage "Not Nearly as Bad as It Could Have Been"

(Cape Fair) - Four days after the monster Thaumantic Hurricane Dolan made first landfall over the NE Cape Commonwealth, residents of this and two other "Old Eastern Commonwealths" continue the now annual ritual of cleaning up post-storm.

As expected, Dolan made landfall near Busco Beach, from there tracking northward along a line conforming roughly to the Chicoran coast, before at last being pushed back out to sea by an incredibly well timed cold front. Dolan has still maintained some structural cohesion as it churns out into the Mid-Thaumantic, but has since been downgraded to a Tropical Depression.

Waters have already mostly receded in the affected regions, of which the hardest hit were the Cape's Busco District and Chicora's Barrier Islands. Of these, the relatively isolated Blackshire Islet suffered the most damage, with the southeast face of the island eroded by nearly a quarter of a mile in places - claiming nearly a hundred homes...

Lancaster Automotive Confirms "Big Money" Collaboration with Eiffel-based Darner Werke

(Whitemere) - In a closed video-conference with industry journalists earlier today, Beautancus' largest auto-maker confirmed insider rumors that it had successfully negotiated what might well prove to be the largest such undertaken by the corporation. In the course of this conference, Lancaster's President Raymond Faulk not only confirmed, but provided some crucial details on the "Darner Werke Deal," which was apparently finalized only last week.

Faulk indicated that discussions thus far had been focused on collaborative R&D "for the immediately harnessing the most forward thinking renewable energy sources" and the further production of engines based upon these "renewables." He also expressed how ""genuinely impressed" the Lancaster leadership was with their DW counterparts, stating that "...we all got along so famously that I'd sort've hate for this to be the only thing we work on. I'm already looking into a number of other projects that would benefit enormously from furthering this partnership with DW, and I'm told they can say the same."

The Albemarle-based Lancaster is only the latest Cussian firm to benefit from the recent thaw in relations between the Confederated Republic and Eiffelland-Retalia, a nation long counted among the Old World's most respected powers...[

VICTORY FOR PATIENTS SOVEREIGNTY IN KEY STATE HIGH COURT RULING

(
Welmonton) - The decade-spanning battle over the right of patients to choose between Private Pre-Paid Healthcare Providers and Syndicated Insurance Providers in the New Model Republic's western Commonwealths was resolved in the nation's highest court earlier today, with a resounding victory for the former party.

The Private Pre-Paid Healthcare model (3PH) is based on a physician-provided insurance, associated and reciprocal provider networks and voluntary patient subscription system allowing for a premium of patient control over their own healthcare, and has long been the primary system in use throughout most of the eastern and central NMR.

The
Syndicated Insurance Provider system, or SIP, was first developed alongside the Dominion-centered State Healthcare Reforms of the last century, which saw strict limitations placed on the ability of physicians to operate private practices and autonomously associated networks, or to exert localized control over rates and prices for healthcare...[cont'd.]

CONFIDENCE IN ENGELLEXIC PARTNERSHIP SHAKEN BY "30.12.18 REVELATIONS"

(Welmonton) - Though perhaps not as severe as many of the Orton Administration's rivals may have had us believe on Monday, there's still no way to deny that the exceptional degree of trust the NMR has placed in the Engellex is and has never truly been fully reciprocated.

The admission of the severity of the situation posed by the largely Fictional conspirators behind the so-called "Enterprise." Drawing upon a vast and deeply entrenched network of criminals and traitors with the common aim of the full, immediate and unconditional independence of the First Republic's trans-Thaumantic Sovereignties, the Enterprise constituted perhaps the single greatest threat to Thaumantic Civilization for some decades.

That this was the first occasion that this information had been made available to most elements of the New Model Republic's gov't, and that it was conveyed in such a manner - via Thaumantic News Network - has been taken as yet another insult by oversight by many Cussian legislators, and is only the most recent such instance of similarly casual disregard for Welmonton... The Times is attempting to follow-up on the Welmonton Nativist's "POWERFUL BED-FELLOWS FOUND DEAD W/ INFAMOUS COURTESAN IN ROANOKE CITY HOTEL" story. Roanoke City is an important trade hub for Ambrosian business interests, and we are seeking the name of the hotel to further investigate whether Ambrosian citizens were present and can offer comment for a St. Theo Times report to follow.

Milton Freeman, Welmonton Nativist's Roanoke City Bureau Chief

Absolutely - it was the Fitz Carlton Luxury Suites, uptown on 17th and Spade. 20th floor, Executive Suite. We've got three conflicting reports on the identities of the fatcats, including that one was indeed an Ambrosian citizen.

Courtesan was Jenna Kilpatrick, 22, confirmed. Highest paid "not a hooker" in Roanoke, dead on a bed between two 250 lbs+ millionaires, in their 50s at the least. Will forward confirmation on the CODs/IDs asap.

The Emperatriz believes strongly in the sanctity of human life. As do I. As do all true Christians & the rest of faithful Europe. While your situation is tragic, one cannot help but wonder if the chickens have finally come home to roost for your creeds.

Nevertheless, we express condolences for this avoidable loss of life. We implore your government to stop discriminating against the faithful. It will stop the bleeding. In every sense. Viva Justosia.

IDENTITIES OF "DEAD BEDFELLOWS" RELEASED BY RCPD

(Roanoke City) A spokesman for the Roanoke City Police Department's Vice Crimes Unit confirmed the identies of the so-called "Bedfellows" that perished in an apparently fetish-related accident alongside the previously identified Ms. Jenna Kilpatrick on Wednesday evening.

Most prominently is Mr. Declan Bradshaw, aged 63, of Ambrosia, the well-known CEO of Climatier Air Conditioners. Climatier is the much beloved, primary provider for the all-important AC systems that safeguard both Ambrosia and Beautancus from the often sweltering heat of summer that both nations are annually subjected to.

Joining Mr. Bradshaw in this ultimately fatal misadventure was Mr. Ramsay Turner, aged 58, of Beautancus, and the CEO Turner Refrigeration, a major Cussian partner of the aforementioned Climatier. Turner Refrigeration has historically focused upon the application of Climatier-made climate control hardware in industrial refrigeration units and ventilation for the Roanoke City meat packing industry.

No official cause of death has been made available to the public for any of the three victims of Wednesday evening's fetishist shenanigans, though a Fitz Carlton employee - speaking under condition of anonymity - had previously indicated that these unfortunate deaths somehow involved an excess application of lubricants and other, more illicit substances.

I must surely thank the Foreign Minister for his patronage and readership of our paper, which is the finest and foremost example thereof to be found in the NMR. It is thus with some not at all minor trepidation that I must confess to a certain degree of confusion over the content of your recent correspondence.

Though I am not at present, nor have I ever been a member of the government of the New Model Republic, I do fancy that I have gained a measure of insight into the affairs of the Cussian state that are otherwise denied to or impossible to attain for many of my countryfolk. Despite this, I cannot for the life of me cipher what you mean to insinuate in regards to the New Model Republic's government, as relating to those admittedly regrettable deaths in Roanoke City, and especially as related to this country's long standing and well established policy of Freedom from Religion.

It has been, and as far as I am aware or concerned, shall ever remain the case that Beautancus and the Cussian people believe in and rigorously uphold the sanctity of human life, independently and regardless of any Fictional creed or doctrine. It is just simply the decent thing to believe and do. A goodly portion of that sanctity includes the deeply enshrined belief in liberty, and the right of people to choose how to lead their own lives, unto whatever end - however accidental or intentional.

While the deaths of these three private citizens are, again, regrettable - neither their deaths or their private lives have or had the slightest thing to do with the government of this great nation. It is not only beneath the dignity of the Government of the New Model Republic, beyond the most basic and day to day business of law enforcement, it is simply not their business.

I should thank the Foreign Minister to remember that Beautancus is a free nation, peopled by truly free men and women. Likewise and once more, I thank you for your continued readership, and will see what I can do about ensuring that your office receives each new printing completely free of charge.

Regards,

Selkirk Cawl,

TAC DISSOLVED BY WRIT OF EXECUTIVE OFFICE

(
Statesboro District) - The Thaumantic Alignment Committee of the New Model Republic was formally dissolved by Executive writ this morning, formalizing what most have known now for some weeks: the Pan-Thaumantic Dream of First Citizen Edward Orton is over. Coming a little more than a week after the so-called "30.12.18 REVELATIONS" concerning the bureaucratic chaos and potentially catastrophic territorial separatism gripping the Engellexian First Republic, insiders have warned that such a move was in the offing.

Rumor and speculation first began to swirl that such a dissolution was being contemplated by the Office for the Administration of Government when it was learned that the now-former TAC Chairman, Oswald C. King had been recalled from Elephant and Castle over the weekend. Mr. King was spotted leaving Drummond House - via the side exit - by the Executive Press Corps Sunday evening, though no indication of his business there was forthcoming in this morning's press briefing.

This was followed by a press conference conducted by the First Citizen personally, just before noon. Speaking for only "a few minutes and very plainly," His Excellecy lead with the announcement of his decision to dissolve the Thaumantic Alignment Committee.
"We've been in deliberation over this matter since last week's TNN broadcast - which was the first anyone in Drummond House had heard of these matters. To say that this was a blow to the New Model Republic's confidence in our Engellexic kindred and partners is, of course, a gross understatement, and while I am not at present inclined to seek the formal termination of our relationship with the United Republic - I think it is clear for all to see that the goals of Pan-Thaumantic Alignment are simply a bridge too far given present circumstances..."

Engellex remains one of the barest handful of nations with which Beautancus maintains any significant treaties, including the eldest of its three mutual defense agreements...[cont'd.]

MAJOR HURDLES REMAIN FOR RESOLUTION OF SUNSET CITY LABOR DISPUTE

(Sunset City) - Teachers and now other Cullowhee Commonwealth Public Educational System employees are on strike today, in the NMR's southwestern-most Commonwealth, as many have already for the previous two weeks. Demonstrations expected to draw thousands are planned outside of the Governor's House tomorrow, with many times that number expected to stay home.

The dispute stems from the repeated failures of both the Governor's House and Commonwealth Legislature to even fractionally improve benefits, pay and working conditions for professionals on any level of one of Beautancus' largest Commonwealth Education Systems.
A recent "Government Employees Pay and Benefits National Analysis" found the otherwise conspicuously wealthy Cullowhee to offer the 2nd lowest compensation for educators nationally, and the 5th lowest for education system support personnel such as janitors, cafeteria workers and transportation workers - with both ratings having remained the same for each of the previous 13 years.

Speaking before journalists and television media at a hastily organized press conference on the steps of the Commonwealth Board of Education, Cullowhee Association of Educators Chairwoman Laura Chatham promised that ever more teachers and support staff would be staying home from work until some action was taken to remedy the situation...

UBS AMENDMENT FAILS MUSTER IN BURGESSES, UNREST IN TENEMENTS

(
Statesboro District) - Officials are describing a state of near lawless unrest in several of the primary Urban Reservation Tenements on the Far Bank of the Claybourne tonight, as relatively calm demonstrations this afternoon degenerated into arson and looting after dark. Several dozen law enforcement agencies from the region are engaged in containing the unrest at this hour, with details from within the affected areas incredibly scarce at the moment.

This afternoon's demonstrations were planned by the Poorfellows Voluntary Association to protest the failure of yesterday's proposed amendment to the Universal Basic Subsistence Charter that would have allowed UBS recipients to exercise legal franchise in local and municipal elections, with less than a fifth of the Burgesses standing in favor. That so few legislators, including many noted proponents and supporters of the UBS Program stood for this amendment, which the Poorfellows have described as a "critical right denied to the most downtrodden," or the matter of their ability to vote in any elections being mutually exclusive to receipt of UBS benefits in other words. As UBS benefits are a strictly Federal matter, it had been hoped that some comprise might be found.

A series of rolling power outages and water failures, suspected to have been acts intentional sabotage by agents provocateur, caused tempers to soar wildly in the afternoon's heat and according to eye witnesses "things were already mean by sunset." Emergency Services were "swamped" in short order, with the overflow causing a short network outage in parts of Welmonton, shortly before Statesboro District was locked down for the evening.

Worst affected are the Boroughs of Castle Hayne, Culpeper, Lafayette and Leland, accounting for four of the five most densely populated of the Federally Administered Satellite Boroughs of Welmonton, well known for being the stronghold of Poorfellows support. Similar unrest has been reported in Roanoke City and Kitchen Hill, though the situation in these appears to be much closer to contained...[cont'd.]

FORMER JUSTOSIAN MISSION DEMOLISHED

(Welmonton) - In a show of quiet solidarity with the New Model Republic's northern neighbor, the former Justosian Mission in Welmonton's Diplomatic Quarter was flattened by bulldozer on Saturday afternoon. Vacated after last year's serious row with the erratic West Implarian nation, First Citizen Orton had insisted upon maintaining the premises in the state in which they were abandoned.

With key subsidies and leasing agreements secured on behalf of Ambrosia earlier this week, the case had apparently changed...

FIRST CITIZEN VISITS FIRE RAVAGED TENEMENTS, LOCKDOWN CONTINUES

(
Leland Tenements) - In only his fifth visit to the farside of the Claybourne for the entirety of his soon expiring term, First Citizen Ed Orton conducted an "Executive Tour" of portions of Leland Tenements earlier today, reportedly "dismayed" by evidence of the carnage carried out by disaffected residents earlier this week.

The country's leader began his visit across the river with a tour of the fire-ravaged Historic District, a once charming riverfront nestled along the banks of the Claybourne tributary river, the Skyeaja. Looting and innumerable acts of arson and vandalism began shortly after sundown Sunday, spurred on by opportunistic Poorfellows gang leaders, many of whom now lie dead or remain in state custody.

First Citizen Orton has persisted in being glib before the media since ordering Fire Brigades, municipal and federal law enforcement agencies and some elements of the New Model Army to action in order to prosecute the "swift and firm re-establishment of the rule of law" in affected areas. Operations continued well into Tuesday throughout most of the Urban Reservation Tenements stricken by this unrest, though officials state that limited riot suppression operations are still underway in portions of the vast urban sprawl of the mid-continental metropolis, Roanoke City's infamous Westside.

Estimated loss of life is high, but as yet no official confirmation or statements have been issued by local, Commonwealth or State authorities...[cont'd.]

SENATE PUTS THE KIBOSH ON AMBROSIAN SUBSIDIES, GREENLIGHT FOR AZRAQI £££

(Statesboro District) - With rumors flying that the end of the era of Ambrosian armed neutrality has come, a measure was put forward to temporarily suspend all subsidies to the NMR's northern neighbor - including the substantial hike authorized by the House late last week.

Putting the apparently last minute measure forward was none other than the Honorable Welf Russel, the Senate President himself. Warning that conclusions shouldn't be jumped to as a result of this precautionary action, Mr. Russel nevertheless made it clear that Beautancus had no intention of rewarding an end to good sense, or accelerating the rate at which the nation was being "surrounded."

Similar subsidies were authorized for the Jugol however, where Beautancus' long-time Azraqi ally and partner recently announced plans for military expansion. Again Mr. Russel made no bones about the decision before his fellows in the Senate, saying that "so long as our partners maintain their agreements with us, and continue to be governed along the lines and by the principles we recognize and support, the New Model Republic remains committed to upholding our not inconsiderable support for them."

Details on the exact contents of the approved Azraqi Subsidy will be published in full later this week, and are rumored to include authorizations for the sharing of key assets in military hardware and technical support systems as well...
