Protectorate Government commences taking charge of administrative functions
The newly appointed Executive Committee has taken over charge of the Directorate of Central Administration, marking the first instance of official activity under the Basic Law of 2018, as duly crafted for the Protectorate under the wise counsel of the Honourable Government of the esteemed Republique Populaire de Serenierre.

Under the wise leadership of His Excellency Lt. General Sylvestre Damas, it is expected that the Executive Committee shall restore order to the territories of the Protectorate and ease the unnecessary burden placed on the military commanders of the liberating army of Serenierre.

Central Secretariat backs civil rights over customary law
The newly instituted Central Secretariat has issued directives to all feudal families currently engaged in agricultural fiefs that under no circumstances would customary law override civil rights guaranteed by the Villesen approved Basic Law. The Central Secretariat announced that it had arrested a number of barons who had been found in violation of these provisions and that they would be tried as ordinary citizens under the Model Code of Law - a legal code designed by the University of Villesen's law department for the Protectorate.

The Government of Serenierre welcomes the commitment by the Central Secretariat of the Protectorate to ensuring equality before the law.

The Basic Law of Occitania (Reg. No. 33387/2018 of the Commissariat of People's Deputies) is a hallmark document which shall be remembered as one of the great liberations of the Occitan peoples, as the principles of civil rights and liberation of the proletariat are embedded and codified therein.

It is hoped the reformed feudal class of the Occitan Protectorat shall be mindful of it.

Agriculture sector lagging as internal displacements continue
The primary economic sector of agriculture was seen to be lagging in its efforts on account of a displaced workforce and due to confusion and mismanagement among the feudal class which has been busy infighting among its own ranks over the past few months, due to family disagreements on account of the new rules brought about by the Basic Law.

The Central Secretariat has taken note of the matter and has urged all feudal estates to resolve their differences within the shortest possible period or face

Serenien construction companies engaged to provide low cost housing in Espidiz and Lions
As the great population shift continues, the Central Secretariat announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with several Serenien construction companies to develop low cost housing in the war ravaged city of Espidiz and in the new capital of Lions. It is said that the low cost housing project in Lions will be completed in six months and would see 50,000 new homes and apartments be made. The capacity of each home would be for a family of five or six, meaning that 300,000 civilians will be easily accommodated in them.

Recovery efforts for war ravaged areas slow
The Central Secretariat announced that efforts to reconstruct the cities of Espidiz, Almezde, Pertu, Coloza and Viasinde continue to be slow on account of financial difficulties and the scale of the work at hand. The state of the cities remains such that normal civilian life cannot be said to be possible at the moment in large parts of the area on account of the cleanup and construction operations. The slow recovery has put greater burden on the city of Lions, Calongo and Megadiea which were the only cities unaffected by the war.

STATEMENT​

The Protectorate of Occitania has successfully obtained the backing of the Consortium of Serenien Financial Institutions (CSFI)

Following a request by the Chief Secretary, the delegation of the CSFI arrived in Lions on April 30th, 2019, and commenced discussions and negotiations designed to resuscitate the economy of Western Occitania while focusing on potential areas to resolve the fiscal and monetary issues plaguing the Protectoral Exchequer.

The CSFI recognized the status of western Occitania as the agricultural heartland of the Occitanian peninsula. However, the CSFI remained clear that the economic standard, hitherto, established by the former Kingdom in western Occitania was an unsustainable model and reliance on agriculture alone, would be inherently problematic for the Protectorate moving forward into the future. After negotiations, the CSFI has recommended an economic structural reform programme designed to lift the country out of its feudal economic model and to address the fundamental problems at the core of the current economic situation.

The Extended Fund Facility is a six billion Euromark programme designed to support the Central Secretariat’s medium term strategy for stronger and more inclusive growth by reducing domestic and external imbalances, removing impediments to growth, increasing transparency, and strengthening social spending. The ambitious structural reform agenda will supplement economic policies to rekindle economic growth and improve living standards.

The forthcoming budget for FY2019/20 is a first critical step in the Central Secretariat's fiscal strategy. The budget will aim for a primary deficit of 20% below the current standard, supported by tax policy revenue mobilization measures to eliminate exemptions, curtail special treatments, and improve tax administration. This will be accompanied by prudent spending growth aimed at preserving essential development spending, the introduction of the Occitanian Welfare Payment Scheme and improve targeted subsidies, with the goal of protecting the most vulnerable segments of society.

The Exchequer will focus on reducing inflation, which disproportionately affects the poor, and safeguarding financial stability. A market-determined exchange rate will help the functioning of the financial sector and contribute to a better resource allocation in the economy. The authorities are committed to strengthening the Exchequer's operational independence and mandate.

An ambitious structural reform agenda will supplement economic policies to rekindle economic growth and improve living standards. Priority areas include improving the management of public enterprises, strengthening institutions and governance, continuing anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism efforts, creating a more favorable business environment, and facilitating trade.

Central Secretary cracks down on abusive barons
Authorities arrest 12 feudal lords on tip offs from peasants

Despite strong assertions of loyalty to the Basic Law, a number of feudal lords have continued to disregard the obligations imposed on them in respect of the peasants tilling their agricultural landholdings and a litany of complaints continue to be received at the Central Secretariat.

Yesterday, the Chief Secretary authorized the arrest of Barons and Counts in the Duchies of Espidiz and Megadiea from where reports emerged of excessive abuse against peasants. The newly constituted National Police was quickly dispatched to the locales and was prompt in taking custody of the suspects.

The Chief Secretary has announced that the Protectorate's government would not allow old baronial rights to be used to oppress the population.

Mayor of Boutenac killed in brazen insurgent attack
Arnaud Diomuoro, 39, assassinated

The picturesque town of Boutenac in the Duchy of Viasinde, today, is the scene of a violent assassination of the local mayor. Insurgents in disguise entered the Mayor's private residence and assassinated Arnaud Diomuro in a targeted attack. The late Mayor was living with his fiancee, 33, and her daughter, 10, from a former relationship, who were also killed.

His Excellency Lt. General Sylvestre Damas, military governor of the Protectorate, has announced additional measures will be taken to guard the officials of the Protectorate and steps will be taken to punish the perpetrators of the attack.

Cathar extremists attack more villages
Massive raids by insurgents, villages ransacked and pantries emptied

The Cathar extremists in the Barimagne mountains have pillaged a number of villages in the Duchy of Viasinde, causing great alarm to innocent civilians and local police alike. This comes as a massive terrorist attack occurred in the Friulian city of Faeie, which caused a number of fatalities. The Serenien Government has also called for an emergency meeting involving senior officials from the Protectorate, as well as Friuli.

The Serenien military's 112th Infantry Brigade has been deployed in full force in the immediate vicinity of the most active insurgent areas, with full support from gunship helicopters. It is reported that the 3rd Regiment of the Serenien Revolutionary Guards will also be deployed into the area in the coming week. The Central Secretariat has imposed a full curfew in the Duchy of Viasinde and other compromised areas.

The government of the Continental Empire of Justosia notes with concern, the erratic, disturbing even nature of the news & reporting of such coming from West Occitania.

One could very easily logically assume this is a state run news 'agency'. That same does itself, Europe, & indeed humanity a great disservice for won tonly infringing on the rights of West Occitan Tiburan Catholics to freely practice their legitimate faith. The majority faith also of your mother/benefactor country.

Furthermore, & perhaps inexplicably hypocritically is your news contributing to further instability in HRM Mirèo de Marsilia-Francisco I's rightful domain of East Occitania by reporting of 'demons'. We will be watching, everything, with interest, concerned interest. God bless you. Viva Justosia.
