Gathering of Cardinals does not produce Pope; voting continues stiffly
The process for the ascent of a new Holy Father for the Catholic Church continues as black smoke has risen from the conclave of cardinals in the Capitoline City State. While there is no information about the process in present time, several favourites had been considered, among them His Eminence, Paul Cardinal Mayer, Archbishop of Augsburg, Primate of Wieserreich, Metropolitan of the Kingdom of Swabia, Titular Church of Sancta Felicitas.

Paul Cardinal Mayer was considered a favourite in the previous papal election as well, with the Archbishop of Augsburg representing the conservative wing of the Catholic Church. Cardinal Mayer's positions on social issues are known to be relatively tough on certain 'neo-modernisms' including the 'extreme tolerance' of subjects such as abortion and premarital sex, and the Cardinal has been an active advocate for their reconsideration by the central government in Wieserreich.

Cardinal Mayer is also known for his negative outlook on homosexuality, which he has previously actively opposed, justifying his position by addressing concerns with quotations from the Bible. Cardinal Mayer, though he has never taken the same militant stance against homosexuality as he has done with premarital sex, abortion and an other number of pressing social issues, has previously justified his outlook by stating that the Bible considers sodomy a sin.

With his social conservatism in mind, Paul Cardinal Mayer has also been an active supporter of international and national charity, and an opponent of the unnecessary use of force in international diplomacy. Cardinal Mayer has also been critical of governments promoting the use of force and discouraging diplomacy between nations, and has established a special relationship between the Catholic Church in Swabia and the Knights Hospitaller, who control Ascheburg to this day.

Considering Paul Mayer's influence among cardinals and the size of his flock, it is considered that he will once again be a favourite among cardinals, and perhaps even the second-ever German pope.

Schwarzenberg praises Q2 financial report following business legislation

Prince Schwarzenberg, Imperial Chancellor has praised the state finances report for the second quarter of 2012, which is the first after the successful passing of his business reforms earlier this year. The business reforms, which simplified the process for domestic and international investment and eased the regime under which corporations may operate in Wieserreich, has reportedly contributed significantly to the increase in investments seen during the second part of Q2 2012.

Financial activity seems on the general increase, recovering from the earlier slump due to the major conflicts in Solaren and Montelimar and the unilateral exit of Danmark from the Germanian trade bloc. While this has contributed to price increases for Eiffellandic goods in Wieserreich, the state has also benefited from the re-entry of border tariffs and taxes on products to and from Danmark, which, while insignificant in terms of affecting a product's price, have helped further improve public finances.

"The second quarter report is very encouraging, and it shows a trend that will continue into the rest of 2012" stated Prince Schwarzenberg before the Reichsrat. "With Augsburg fully rebuilt and our economy on the recovery from the August and September Catastrophes growth slumps, the Reich can fully focus on continuing its independent and sovereign international policy, a war on all illegal arms trade, and an active conflict against state and interstate terrorism" he added, to be praised by his governing bloc's members of the Council.

In the meanwhile, the Reichsrat was also informed on the progress of the League integration of air defences and early warning systems with the EDF network, of which Wieserreich is an active part of. While a lot of 'strategic details' were withheld by the government, the progress is considered to have gone 'excellently' in the words of War Minister Maximilian von Bumgarner, who also stated that 'the Reichswehr is fully prepared to deliver war at the enemy's homeland, should the Reich ever be challenged or threatened accordingly.'

Schwarzenberg and Bumgarner will attend missile tests during September, with the Reichswehr having planned three such during the month.

Emperor celebrates 102nd birthday amidst dazzling festivities

Emperor celebrates 102nd birthday amidst dazzling festivities
The Emperor's 102nd birthday festivities were completed, lasting several days and between the 6th and 10th of August, which attracted a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. From famous classical music to colourful traditional military and civilian outfits to delicacies unique in each state, Wieserreich displayed its best colours for its emperor's birthday.

The pinnacle of the celebrations, on the birth day of the Emperor itself on the 8th of August, was a national holiday for the country. Emperor Friedrich Wilhelm and Emperor-elect Karl both attended the birthday celebrations the former organised in the Archducal Palace in Saxony's capital Preßburg, which were attended by prominent commons, gentry and nobles from around the country.

During the celebrations, Emperor Friedrich Wilhelm also attended celebratory fests in his honour in Saxony and Swabia, which the House of Thießen has been ruling under the same crown since the ascension of Franz Josef I in 1809. The Emperor, despite his age and rumoured health issues, repeated his established tradition of appearing close to the people of his realms. Outside Saxony and Swabia, he was represented by Emperor-elect Karl, citing stress and health concerns however.

The Emperor's health continues to be a public question after well over two decades in the spotlight, and in 2012 alone several rumours rose mentioning a deteriorating health condition. Though the Emperor proved rumours to be unfounded, he did indeed seem to be under the weight of his duties and years. In his address to the Reich, His Majesty thanked the people and governments of the realms, and vowed to continue upholding the tradition and honour bestowed upon him until his "dying breath".

Schwarzenberg: Rumours of our demise or impotence are "unfounded" and "mistaken"

Price Schwarzenberg was rather critical in his latest interview, with journalists asking him concerning the recent rumours and talk of certain foreign media about Wieserreich's demise and impotence as a major power into the 21st Century. The Imperial Chancellor was rather harsh on the criticism, citing that such rumours were "unfounded" and "mistaken", and shocked the Reich with some rather bold, if not entirely appropriate comments.

"Such lies... such rumours, they are all unfounded, they are false. Totally mistaken. The Reich is steadfast in continuing its independent and sovereign foreign policy without any restraint or constraint that is unnecessary. The appearance of fledging powers on or near our borders is as minor an occurrence as the disappearance of those aggressive regimes that preceded them" commented the Imperial Prince.

"You might very well take the path of lying, or take the path of accurate informing... If you continue speaking about impotence, I will show you what we, this Nation and this People who inhabit this land, are capable of" he added later, pointing a finger at a foreign journalist who accused him of impotence and ineptitude in the handling of the Reich in the first months of his chancellorship.

The chancellor's aggressive rasp at the journalists was highly criticised by several members of the Reichsrat, including several of his own governing coalition. Communist and nationalist deputies almost universally called out against the chancellor, the former citing that "this undiplomatic and ungentlemanly behaviour shows the true face and intent of the God-forsaken capitalism that rules us" and the latter calling Schwarzenberg's fit a "sorry, ungerman and barbaric excuse".

Habemus Papam! Cardinal Mayer elected second German pope!

Habemus Papam! Cardinal Mayer elected second German pope!
Habemus papam! The Catholic world rejoices as white smoke rises over the Capitoline City State, and a new pope takes the reins of the One True Church. Paul Cardinal Mayer, Archbishop of Augsburg and Primate of Wieserreich was elected by the College of Cardinals, taking up the papal throne as Martinus VI. Pope Martin VI is the second German pope after Pope Marcus Clemens I.

The similarities between Marcus Clemens I and Martin VI continue, however, as both served as Archbishops of Augsburg. Marcus Clemens, born Wolfgang
Ritter von Braun in Augsburg became a cardinal in 1972 and was elected pope in 1981 after the death of Clemens XI. He died in 1992, twenty years before Martin VI took up the papal mantle.

Martin VI, formerly Cardinal Mayer, was a leading conservative figure of the Catholic church, with a stance against abortion and premarital sex, both of which he had called 'a modern plague eating Wieserreich's traditions and culture' in a 1996 interview, and is also rather critical of same-sex marriage and adoptions. Like many prominent figures of the Catholic clergy in the Reich, Martin VI conducted his military service before becoming a priest, serving with the military ordinate. Pope Martin VI is also critical of the lack of diplomacy and recent conflicts, and has been active in national and international charity.

Martin VI's ascension was met with positive comments from all prominent political figures and parties. The Emperor is reported to have congratulated the new Pope by a personal phone call, while the Foreign Ministry issued a statement shortly after his election. Among the political parties, the nationalist DNF standed out by calling Martin VI "a Swabian faithful and patriot that has made all Germans proud" and the Christian-communist KPW expressed its hopes "for a reconciliation of the clergy with the faith, though Mayer's conservatism is alarming."

Emperor-elect Karl to visit the Papal State on Emperor's behalf

The Imperial Household has announced that the 81-year-old Emperor-elect Karl, King of Wieserreich will be shortly departing for the Papal State to represent the Kaiser and the Reich before the Holy Father. The trip, which is customary for Wieserreicher emperors and their successors, comes as a mild surprise as this will be the first time Emperor Friedrich Wilhelm has sent his heir-apparent to a papal election, rather than go himself.

The 102-year-old emperor has firmly followed the Imperial tradition, which dictates that the Defender of the Faith shall attend all Papal funerals and elections. Indeed, His Majesty has attended the funerals of seven Holy Fathers and the ascension of six, from Benedict XI's death in 1939 to the death of Stephen IV in 2012. Karl IV's choice for this seventh customary trip is considered not only as one meant to pave the way to Imperial succession, but also a rather unlucky choice, as seven has been traditionally the guardian number of Emperors.

While the Emperor himself has been unavailable for comments regarding his choice, the Palace denied rumours of ill health for the fourth time this year, citing that His Majesty desires to open the way for younger generations. Communist politician Martina Schwabacher rebuked the palace's statements, citing that 'one old man succeeding another is hardly paving the way for younger generations. The statement was met with staunch criticism in the Reichsrat, and the DNF has reportedly filed several lawsuits for Ms. Schwabacher, while the Palace dismissed the comments as 'disrespectful and unworthy even of unloyalists'.

On a brighter note, several consider Friedrich Wilhelm II's choice of Karl IV for the seventh ascension of a Holy Father a rather lucky choice for the 81-year-old Emperor-elect and heir-apparent. The symbolism of the circumstances are rather bold indeed, and there is little doubt that this may be the mark the beginning for Karl IV's coronation, perhaps meaning the first Imperial abdication ever. Such speculation is ripe, however the Palace remains rather critical of any such rumour.

The government of the Great Danish Realm is somewhat perturbed by the rash and erratic press statement of Prince Schwarzenberg which does little in terms of mending largely fraught Dano-Wiessereicher relations. It is lamentable that such a leading and significant statesman of the Wieserreich has let down not only himself but his nation.

The Kingdom has, in its own independent and bold initiative showing mature international leadership, sought to initiate a reignition of relations deserving of both our peoples. However, due to the crass and unstatesmanlike ventures by Prince Schwarzenberg, these noble overtures have been somewhat soured.

HDMG, in a policy of pragmatism, to assist Danish citizens in the Wieserreich and Wieserriecher citizens in the Kingdom, deemed it appropriate to upgrade diplomatic missions though in light of the negative and ungainly utterances by the Prince, these shall remain relegated.

HDMG, for the current, will relay its dealings with the Wieserreich via the Great Danish embassy to the Kingdom of Eiffelland. This is a sad occurance for both our peoples. But, Eiffelland the emergent leader of Germanian-speaking nations in the international sphere and the leading exemplar of the old-age tradition of the genuine spirit of moral clarity and tolerance syptomatic of decent Germanian values since time immemorial, is a natural course to take.

The Kingdom shall look to Eiffelland as the true moral weathervane and exemplar of virtue, an end to which we shall work closely, in replacement of the multiplitudinal decrepitude of the Wieserreich as exemplified by the the boorishness of the Prince Schwarzenberg.

Imperial Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Conveyed through extraordinary telecommunication

"His Imperial Majesty's Council of Ministers, exercising His executive authorities in Wieserreich on His behalf, are universally baffled by the Danish communique. Under no circumstances was the Danish state or nation named or portrayed negatively by the Wieserreicher Council of Ministers or any of it members, including the Rt. Hon. His Grace the Imperial Prince of Schwarzenberg. It is unfortunate that Mr. Westerveld wishes to convince otherwise.

"Nevertheless we are watching with great caution and regret the continued inflammatory policies of the hypernationalist Danish regime. Moving without provocation, it continues to irritate and cause harm in bilateral relations, creating rifts where once were roads and preventing the building of bridges as though they are the Antichrist. But most alarmingly, we watch in shock as the current government of Danmark attempts to intervene in interior Germanian affairs.

"At this stage, the Reich continues to see no point in maintaining direct diplomatic relations with such a threatening state, despite the ancient friendship between Germans and Danes, which the Reich continue to embrace and desire. As a result, the Imperial legation to Denmark will unfortunately have to remain closed, and it services will not be relegated abroad to another diplomatic mission; however our consular missions will continue providing their services as normal.

"In the unfortunate event that the Danish hypernationalists attempt to continue meddling with Germania's and the League's interior affairs, and continue to pin blames and other unfortunate lies on pacifist powers such as the Empire, we will be left with no other option but to study and proceed with any and all solutions as they might seem necessary, as the severing of diplomatic relations is obviously not enough to severe the head of the beast that this problem has long become.

"We pray that the Reich's friends the honourable Danish people elect the option to continue in a path of cooperation and diplomacy the soonest possible, rather than this path of immorality, blasphemy and madness. May peace and clarity of mind persist."

The government of His Danic Majesty, operating under and behalf of His Majesty, receives the communication from you with a mixture of puzzlement and fortitude. The government believes it is essential to correct misconceptions and to set the record straight and ensure the correct narrative is crystal clear for the benefit of both governments.

The reaction of the His Danic Majesty's government was naturally and realistically expected given the pronouncements of Prince Schwarzenberg. In particular, we give reference to the exact quotation "t
he appearance of fledging powers on or near our borders is [a] minor an occurrence". This is and was perceived as an insult to the Kingdom and whether it was meant or not, the choice of words was both unfortunate and misguided in diplomatic relations. In retrospect, His Royal Highness might have chosen greater due care and attention in his words to avoid the diplomatic hot-water that he is currently experiencing.

As such, given the position he holds, we would both expect he have diplomatic consideration for the nations bordering the Reich as much as we do for our neighbours. Lamentably, it appears that this is a deficit in his character as he seeks to play to the home audience within the Wieserreich. As such, given his lamentable and woeful lack of judgement and choice of communication, we are drawn to the inevitable conclusion that he is inadequate for the illustrious position and role he inhabits. But this is a matter for the government of the Wiessereich to consider, beyond our jurisdiction as it is to intervene.

This government also proclaims that contrary to the pronouncement by the Imperial Government, the Kingdom of the Great Danish nation has never sought, nor seeks, to "meddle" in Germanian affairs whether that be the Wiessereich, Wendmark, Franken or Eiffelland. To suggest so is absurd, a falsity, and entirely ridiculous. The Kingdom retains an utmost respect and policy of non-interference for its neighbours of which it has never had cause to intervene. We peacefully coexist with our neighbouring Teutonosphere as we have since the regaining of sovereignty in 1660, moreso in recent history. To suggest that the Kingdom interferes in the policies of its neighbours is untrue and ridiculous given the specific intention of the Danish government to work peacefully with our neighbours irrespective of the outcome of the popular referendum on continued membership of the Kingdom within the Germanian League.

The Kingdom furthermore is drawn to remind the Reichsministerium of the inaccuracy of its own position and that of our own. Let it be on record, that the Kingdom took the first bold step, with no nudge or pressure, to interact with the Reich. The comments of Prince Schwarzenberg set this back comprehensively assisted by the Wieser government providing his refuge. It may also be necessary if the Reich truly desires friendship with the Danes, for it to reign in its errant officers for the common good.

Finally, His Danic Majesty's government also draws attention to the official statement published by the Reichsministerium, quote: "[W
e] will be left with no other option but to study and proceed with any and all solutions as they might seem necessary, as the severing of diplomatic relations is obviously not enough to severe the head of the beast that this problem has long become". We seek clarification on this matter as it is clearly itself unduly aggressive and harmful to the position of the Reich. In this vein, we seek to shed light on our earlier statement. The issue was never about our issue with the Imperial Government, but with Prince Scwarzenberg, a figure who has caused immense harm to the rapprochement in Dano-Wieser relations but which the Reich appears determined to cover in a flak-jacket without, as we say, seeing the wood for the trees.

Nevertheless, as a demonstration of true leadership, I invite you to the Rhine valley border town of Tyskr
ød in order to put paid to the main areas of dispute and hopefully get out two nations to the level of dialogue deserving of two neighbouring powers.

Communist spy jailed for 14 years

A leading Wieserreicher scientist and academic professor at the Royal University of Swabia, Emil Nikolaus Fuchs,
has been found guilty of espionage for foreign powers in violation to Swabian and federal law. Emil Fuchs, 59, worked as a professor at the Royal University of Swabia and was considered among the leading engineers in Wieserreich. Beneath this façade, however, was a committed communist who had been spying for the Carentanians for nearly two decades.

Fuchs was convicted on five counts of subverting, promoting Communist and leaking industrial secrets to the Carentanians. It is believed that Fuchs led the communist ring that took responsibility for the 1949 riot near the university in Augsburg, which led to four people being wounded and serious damage to Imperial and private property. According to the attorney Heinz von Blochowitz, his motivation was his "unswerving devotion to Communism".

Passing Fuchs' sentence, the judge Marcus Oldenburg said "you have betrayed your fatherland's, your students' and your compatriots' trust, faith and protection given to you, by the grossest and most disgusting means possible". Fuchs was sentenced to fourteen years in prison, and investigations continue in his close circle to ensure no further aggravating incidents take place.

Wieserreichische Welle to run television program

Following the example of private broadcasters, the federal government passed a motion to add a television program service to Wieserreichische Welle. Television, which was introduced in the 1930s and began gaining popularity in the Reich in the second half of the 1940s, has been regarded as an invention that will change the world around us, making the spread of information easier. Others remark that it cannot replace the radio and its ease of use.

The television program is expected to begin broadcasting in 1953, following the completion of broadcasting facilities and the program itself that are already underway. The Wieserreichische Welle television program will include broadcasting in two frequencies as Wieserreichische Welle 1, devoted to news, and Wieserreichische Welle 2, devoted to entertainment. It will be first available in Swabia, though plans for nation-wide broadcasting have been made.

News of the expansion have come under criticism, however, by KVP members opposing the expansion of state enterprise, and supporting more private ventures in the sector.

It is with a degree of comfort that we see the authorities of the Wieserreich bring the necessary full force of justice upon the agent provocateurs who seek to sow havoc and reap the fruits of their sweaty labours throughout the civilised world, its metropoles and all-encompassing national states. Their fruit can only wilt and be a thoroughly poor harvest in the full glare of truth and justice. Communist-indoctrinated individuals, as the perilous ideology itself, cannot be allowed to be unquestioned and unpunished. For too long has civility borne the cancerous scourge of communism and it must stop henceforth.

Communism brings little of consequence and improvement to the lives of ordinary people. For all their talk, it merely ensures the power of elites that claim to represent them whilst they, the people, remain downtrodden under the squelching hob-nailed boot of their apparent 'equal'. Not this for the sentient world!

I, and the government, look on this development that has taken place within the jurisdiction of the Reich as proof positive of its righteousness in adhering to truth and it acts as a deliverance for the Reich in its place in the Nations that unequivocally take the side of right over wrong.

"The Imperial Council of Ministers, the Imperial Police Corps and the Imperial Gendarmerie continue to actively protect the Reich from any threat to its peace, prosperity, stability or self, be that of any sort of extremist political alignment. Revolutionary communism and fascism are both stains on the good faith and intention of humanity to progress, and the misguided who are lured by those malicious ideologies unfortunately commit themselves to sometimes extremely volatile beliefs and tactics.

"The agents provocateurs of anarchy, revolutionary communism, hypernationalist fascism, and all other such extremist, shameful and terrorist ideologies that seek the destabilisation of society and the state shall find no fertile ground in the Reich for as long as the Emperor, people, the state and the armed forces of Wieserreich stand united against the common threats of humanity.

"It should be noted however that we are not a people keen to pin the blame on states, but rather on misguided individuals. Wieserreich continues to be a strict and adamant practitioner of non-interference in the interior affairs of foreign nations, faiths and states.

"The Reich condemns any state that seeks to imperialistically expand at the expense of others through the means of political extremism or otherwise, as is often the case with regimes that seek to export their failed revolutions and fanatical ideologies. However this does not bar our will and intention to continue conducting peaceful bilateral relations with any country that respects other countries, and adheres by the policy of non-interference in others' interior affairs, as well as the principles of respect towards other nations, states, and humanity.

"The Rt. Hon. Mr. Westerveld can therefore be certain that we at His Imperial Majesty's Council of Ministers, under the watchful eyes of His Imperial Majesty Friedrich Wilhelm the Second, by Grace of God Wieserreicher Emperor and the People of the Holy Germanic Empire, shall continue to strive under the principles of sovereignty, respect, peace, and cooperation.

"Under those very principles, and with this circumstance serving as a bold occasion for an initiative, I therefore invite the Rt. Hon. Mr. Westerveld
on behalf of his King and government to meet me on behalf of my Emperor and government in order to discuss matters of good neighbouring, cooperation and coexistence.

"I look forward to your response."

Reichsrat: Klimburg trade proposal sparks debate

After a month of deliberation and private discussion, Freiherr zu Klimburg announced that he is to introduce a draft of the government's proposed trade measures for the period 1953-1955. The trade minister's proposal includes a number of temporary measures aimed to further improve the efficiency of the Wieserreicher economy and strengthen its position in Gallia, Germania and the world. The proposal has seen a mixed reaction before its official presentation, sparking a discussion in today's Reichsrat meeting between members of the CSU, the KVP, and the trade minister.

Amadeus Freiherr zu Klimburg's proposal includes several articles involving the improvement of the country's industry. Most notably, the Ministry for Trade seeks to codify legislation to help bolster research and growth into the field of electronics, seeking out partnerships among Wieserreicher and foreign institutions. It has been stated that the Royal University and the Thießen Group, currently partnered in the field of computer and electronic research and development in a 1948 programme, have been seeking out partners from abroad including Telora.

The measures are also speculated to include a temporary tariff-rate quota on foreign vehicles and certain engineering equipment. The move to implement temporary import restrictions for vehicles has previously been lobbied publicly by the industrial conglomerate Wain, which owns the Opel and Sachs brands, as well as MAN, a major bus and truck manufacturer. Other companies, however, including Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and vehicle importers, have been sceptic about the move. Importers have preferred absolute quotas instead, which could instead improve their short-term profits.

The bill will be introduced before the Reichsrat in the form of a draft the coming week. Thus far, it has been officially stated to include electronics and small arms manufacturing, with vehicle imports remaining a wild-card.

Women's rights group seeks support from Imperial family, royalty

The women's rights group "Society for the Rights of Women Isabella of Swabia" from Mannheim, Burgenland (Swabia) has officially called for the Imperial family and other royals to show greater support for women's rights. The group has been noted for its campaigns since it was founded in 1945, but this is the first time it appeals to such a high level for its goals. The group has previously come under fire for certainly "overly feministic" demands, such as calls to allow women to participate freely in all combat and officer positions in the Reichswehr and even to drop the eponym "the Manly" from Isabella I, Wieserreich's first female monarch (r. 1644-1707).

According to the group's spokeswoman Franziska Wegmann, group representatives have been accepted in auditions with "high profile" members of several major houses, including
both the Imperial Thießen and the Gießen-Wetzlar of Braunschweig. "We are hoping that the establishment will understand us" commented Mrs. Wegmann. "Wieserreich has a long history of decent woman rights, including three empresses-regnant and several duchesses-regnant, but women are still facing significant discrimination in many fields in society and work."

According to Mrs. Wegmann, royalty such as the Duchesses-regnant of Braunschweig and Crown Princess Eleonore of Swabia serve as positive examples. "Crown Princess Eleonore is already serving her military term, and has repeatedly stated she wishes to be treated based on merit and not blood or gender.
She is among the few female junior officers in the army." said Mrs. Wegmann. "Elisabeth of Braunschweig is also setting the way for greater political rights for women too" she added, referring to the Duchess's capacity as spokeswoman of the Reichsrat.

According to the group, however, such action is not enough. "Women still face daily discrimination that is largely institutional" added Mrs. Wegmann. "The vast majority of women in the armed forces are barred from armed service of command, which is based on the traditional idea that women should be housewives. Similarly, almost all of our women politicians are scions of noble or rich families traditionally ruled by women, especially those from Braunschweig. It is our hope that support from royalty will continue the trend of improving women's rights by setting an example for all."

Reichsrat: Klimburg proposal controversial, to be presented in two bills?

Trade minister Freiherr zu Klimburg's proposed trade legislation came under significant fire during today's Reichsrat session, with members of the Reichsrat favouring more open trading policies and lobbyists attacking the trade minister for his proposal. While the bill has not yet been presented before the Reichsrat, it is due to be introduced in the form of a draft the coming Monday.

The bill, which makes up the framework for research and development in electronics between Wieserreicher and foreign institutes and firms, also allegedly includes protective measures for the country's automotive and engineering industries. When CSU member and Saxon representative Adolf Richter inquired about whether the electronics bill will include clauses for the automotive and engineering industries, a new debate was sparked.

According to sources from the government, it is becoming increasingly likely that the research and development bill will be presented separately from the protective tariffs bill, ensuring the government enjoys maximum support for the two separate issues. The same sources also seem to confirm rumours that Freiherr zu Klimburg is currently engaging in moves to bolster trade with particular foreign powers.

The Klimburg bill is seeing mixed reactions from industries and lobbyists, with some corporations such as Wain openly favouring the bill while others like Krauss-Maffei openly reject it.

Karlovia accuses Wieserreich of increasing border forces

A leaked memo from the Karlovian foreign ministry has led to a fierce debate in the small Sarmatian country, as it allegedly accuses Wieserreich of increasing its border forces on the two countries' common border. According to the sources of Journal Karlovia, Imperial troops in the Aussig region alone have increased by 17.000 in the past three years.

The leak is not the first incident to hint tensions between Augsburg and Brünn over their common border, with the two countries sharing a long history of rivalry over the ownership of the Aussig border region in the Duchy of Thuringia. The imperial legation at Brünn has, however, stated that Wieserreich's government has "unlimited faith" in Karlovia as a respected and neutral country.

Unfortunately both the legation as well as the war ministry have refused commenting on the accusations, with the latter simply stating that "the Imperial Army is vigilant to protect the Reich from all threats, direct and indirect". Karlovia's chancellor Jan Beran has also maintained silence as he comes under fire from both members of the Karlovian parliament as well as citizens, with many doubting his ability to maintain a majority for his Orange Party.

The foreign ministry has stated that the situation is overestimated, and that Augsburg and Brünn are working in harmony towards positive results.

We are concerned about the parts of the Klimburg Trade Proposal on protective measures favouring the Wieserreicher automotive industry. Please keep in mind that it would be against the Treaty on the Germanian League if a memberstate would take protective measures against the industries of other memberstates.

Reichsrat: Trade ministry introduces automotive, electronic, petroleum bill drafts

Trade Minister Amadeus Freiherr zu Klimburg presented today the draft forms of two separate bills on the automotive, electronics and petroleum industries, dubbed the National Framework for Technological Development 1960. The National Framework bills received mixed reactions, with the Reichsrat engaging in hot debates over the automotive industry bills, whereas the the electronics and petroleum industry legislation drafts were generally welcome by both the CSU and the KVP.

Klimburg's automotive bill, which has seen firm opposition from junior producers and even foreign governments, involves the establishment of temporary protective measures to help spur the growth of the native automobile industry. Wain, the corporation behind the Opel and Sachs brands that dominate Wieserreicher consumer car production, has openly lobbied for the measures, citing it will assist the two brands in competing with foreign ones like Volkswagen.

The electronics bill, in turn, mainly concerns research and development framework between private and public entities from both Wieserreich and abroad. The R&D department of Thie
ßen AG has stated that through the funding and incentives that will be made possible through the new legislation, and through cooperation with other national and foreign (including Teloran) entities, computers can be miniaturised through the use of transistors, a brand new technology.

On the front of petroleum industry, the trade ministry seeks to address and alleviate concerns over the national fossil fuel usage. While the Imperial oil monopoly KIW is a major producer of crude oil and associated products, increasing domestic demand has drastically reduced the country's export capacity, something that has caused concerns among policymakers. The Klimburg bills seek to provide incentives for KIW to increase production as it might be necessary.

The electronics and petroleum bill drafts were well received by the Reichsrat parties, and voting on the drafts is expected to begin tomorrow. The automotive industry draft, however, is seeing an increasingly hostile response, with prominent members of the Reichstag who back the Schwarzenberg government opposing the measures. Debates are set to continue tomorrow, with several KVP members actively lobbying for Klimburg to withdraw the legislation.

Scientist says, homosexuality may also infect women; sparks outrage

Alfred von Zinzendorf, a notable psychologist of Schaumburger descent, has shocked the public with a new study that reveals that women may also be subject to be infected by homosexuality. The mental illness, which is currently thought to be extremely prominent with the male gender, is considered a sin by the Catholic Church and it is banned by federal laws against sodomy and pedophilia. Several prominent homosexuals in history have been excommunicated.

The revelations, in line with archaic stories and myths about the legendary Sappho, might cause a great concern with lawmakers and the justice system, especially as women are physically unable to sodomise and thus violate the present laws. According to Mr. Zinzendorf, however, female homosexuality may be a very real phenomenon that could, allegedly, be related to the woman's menstrual cycle and related mental instability.

Feminists and woman rights supported have responded with unprecedented outrage, citing that Zinzendorf's claims and terminology are unscientific and discriminate against women. Mr. Zinzendorf on the other hand, as well as notable Catholic Church officials, cite that the scienfic research is aimed towards safeguarding men's rights and to ensure the equal treatment of men and women before the law. If the findings are correct, sodomy laws may have to be amended to formally include female homosexuality.

One person notably stated that the current state of women's rights may be directly harmful for the public. "We are the only country in which women can both vote equally to men, as well as be conscripted equally with men" said the 90-year-old Mr. Bimbeck from Waldberg, Thuringia. "I am concerned that it might be crushing tradition and ethics" said the elderly man. "I am going to trust the Emperor, however, to help uphold tradition and ethics like he always has."

Babelfisch hints shifts to foreign policy, increased attention to trade?

Foreign minister Graf von und zu Babelfisch characterised trade as 'fundamentally important' to the Reich's foreign policy in a recent interview in Wieserreichische Welle-Radio Augsburg. This marks a rather interesting possible change, as trade policies had rarely been handled by foreign ministers during the 20th Century. In his interview, Babelfisch made reference to several countries.

According to Babelfisch, the Germanian League will continue to be Wieserreich's main focus in all sectors. Franken, Eiffelland and the Reich Customs Area constitute a single trade area and military alliance, and their position as leading regional industrial economies are expected to heavily influence national politics.

Particular reference was made to the small country of Karlovia as well, which has recently seen a state visit and high profile summit. Babelfisch explained that Karlovia's neutrality was worthy of respect and protection, and that Augsburg believed in the principles of good neighbouring with the Slavic principality. "We will continue striving for the best relations with our dear neighbour" promised the foreign minister.

In other regions, Solaren and the communist world were also referred to. Babelfisch stated that Solaren was an alarm for regional security in Eiffelland, and that Augsburg would assist Trier "as we always have", while he condemned Carentanian expansionism. The same was not said for other communist countries however, stating that certain nations provide "model examples" and can help fostering bilateral relations with great mutual gain.

When asked about recent Danish government statements about Wieserreich, Babelfisch smiled and appeared relaxed. "Christiansborg of course continues its own foreign policies" he commented, stating that bilateral relations would be conducted based on Imperial and national sovereignty and interests. When asked about rumours of a summit in Danmark, he commented that "we have discussed a possibility or two, though no decision has been made. Roskilde was one suggestion, as was Einsiedeln."

Klimburg promises amendments in automotive bill to Reichsrat

Following days of debate over Klimburg's proposed automotive bill draft, the trade minister has finally conceded 'strong amendments' to the proposed legislation. "I still maintain that we must fortify our industries" he stated, "but we must take the interests of the entire industry in mind, including importers" Freiherr von Klimburg said. He also promised that the bill would be in full accordance with the Germanian League Treaty.

The disputed bill has seen various reactions, with national commercial car producers openly favouring it
while commercial car importers opposing the bill. Legal concerns had also been cited by several bodies, including Supreme Court judge Hans Berchtold, that the law might prove 'adventurous' in relation to the country's international obligations towards certain partners.

The opposition, which includes members of the Reichsrat supportive of the Schwarzenberg cabinet, is significant enough to have warranted direct intervention from the Reichskanzler. Prince Schwarzenberg recently stated that "the government is working carefully on the law" while not ruling out 'any possibilities' over the final draft of the bill.

Other bills introduced together with the automotive one included bills on electronics, as well as petroleum. The final concerns itself with increasing Wieserreicher production through incentives, while limiting the growth of domestic consumption to help increase exports, and thus federal government profits; in turn possibly opening the way for tax cuts that will benefit the various estates.

Ministry report shows 15% increase in industry reinvestments
Industrial profit reinvestments in the period of January to September 1952 have seen a 15 percent increase according to an official report from the Imperial Ministry for Industry and Energy. The report, which includes heavy industries and the energy sector, was presented before the Reichsrat by Minister Hans Freiherr Fraydt von Fraydenegg this morning. This is the largest such increase since 1949.

The study shows that industries reported significant reinvestments of profits in several fields, including research and development, expansion of operations and worker welfare. Leading corporations in reinvesting were the Thießen Group, with 18.77 percent of its operating profits reinvested; KEF, with 15.04 percent; MAN, with 12.01 percent; and Königliche Schwäbische Ingeniurwesen, with 11 percent. The efforts of the Reich's aircraft industry would have ranked third if combined, at 14.97 percent.

Military research and development accounts for a significant portion of the increase, with all of the leading corporations taking direct or indirect part in arms and armaments manufacturing. The Thießen Group continues its research into rocketry and electronics in cooperation with junior partners, while the various aircraft manufacturers have recently announced their intention to cooperate with the aim of creating new modern combat aircraft and a new heavy-duty transport aircraft for civil and military applications by 1955.

Since the entry of the National Industrial Incentives Law into effect in January 1948, companies active in the heavy industry and energy sectors have had significant incentives to reinvest their profits and particularly in research and development and worker welfare. The various incentives include tax returns and reduced bureaucracy, and were particularly welcome by the sector. Energy monopoly KEF has notably used the law in cooperation with Thießen to heavily invest in new technologies for electric plants and petroleum production.

Bumgarner unveils details of War Ministry budget, drills for 1953
Minister Maximilian von Bumgarner publicly unveiled various details of the Ministry for War's budget and planned drills for 1953 during an interview broadcast by radio and television in Augsburg earlier today. The minister responsible for national defence appeared particularly positive about the revealed plans, stating that they had been drafted with 'absolute respect' for the Reich's interests as well as neighbouring powers, with 'continued adherence' to the principles of reciprocity and mutual respect.

According to the 1953 federal government budget, military funding will only see a minor increase at an estimated 5.5 percent of the national economy. This means that defence is remaining the primary concern for the federal government, which delegates other financially demanding responsibilities such as education and welfare to state governments, private companies and other bodies such as the Catholic Church and the Knights of the Silverless Saints.

A number of major military drills were also scheduled to be repeated in 1953, including the GEIST 53 exercises during spring, war games during the summer period, and the WECHTEN 53 drills during winter. Several smaller-scale exercises, including rocket tests, aircraft demonstrations and administrative exercises have also been announced, in line with the trends of recent years. The larger-scale drills are scheduled to take place mainly in the Alps, the Rhine, Ostmark and West Saxony.

Military spending on armaments has seen a significant increase however, and the minister unveiled that the R-3 rocket was expected to enter service in significant numbers during the year, over one year after it was formally accepted into service. The replacement of older military equipment and its delegation to Landwehr units also continues, with modern jet aircraft and universal tanks to also enter service with many frontal divisions.

Germania: Augsburg in Transalpine talks with Christiansborg?
Breaking news come from the Palace as Foreign Minister Heinrich Graf von und zu Babelfisch has formally invited his Danish equivalent to hold direct, high-profile bilateral talks between the Reich and Danmark. The invitation, which appears as the first serious attempt to normalise relations after several months of suspended diplomatic relations and uncomfortable rhetoric from both sides, has been characterised as 'of grave importance' to Transalpine relations by Chancellor Schwarzenberg.

The foreign minister invited Mr. Westerveld, his Danish counterpart, to closed-door talks between themselves to be held in the [wiki]Nymphenburg Palace[/wiki] near the capital city of Augsburg, as generously offered for this purpose by His Majesty the Emperor himself. The two foreign ministers have previously personally exchanged rather negative comments, famously leading to the withdrawal of the lead Danish and Wieserreicher diplomats from each nation. The two diplomatic missions continue to offer consular services to this day.

Mr. Babelfisch has hinted that the discussions will follow a strictly defined agenda, possibly to open with the mutual re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and to include key matters over trade, finance and security for both sides. According to sources from the Imperial Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Wieserreicher minister and his Danish colleague have been in indirect communication over the possibility of talks for some time now.

There is public scepticism over the recent rapprochement attempts between Augsburg and Christiansborg, given how cold relations have appeared to have become after months of public offences from both sides. Danish media have repeatedly characterised Wieserreich as a second-rate expansionist nation with no future, whereas Wieserreicher media often question how great a power can be when its overseas holdings are limited to only a few "rocks on the other side of the globe". It is unknown if these trends will affect the talks, if at all.

Imperial Post to tighten delivery rules; nationalists rejoice amidst criticism
Wieserreich's Imperial Post has famously proposed to cease deliveries to "non-existent destinations" starting with January 1953, following a row between moderates and nationalists that now enters the sector of services. The move, which will mean the postal services will return packages and letters that are sent to destinations not listed under official Reich of Estate names, has been criticised by several independent members of the Reichstag as "overtly nationalist".

Among the "non-existent destinations" come several names for the Reich itself abroad, including "Wiese" and "Pratia"; according to Imperial Post spokesman Ernst Edelweiss, the proposed new policy will not return deliveries targeted to "Wieserreich" in specific, or other official localities. The move is well-received by nationalists and especially the radical DNF, which has been repeatedly accused of concealing a pan-German agenda in its policies.

Moderates have asked for the move to be watered down, however, citing that it should allow for more time for foreigners to adapt to the proposed change, and ask for the specific proposal concerning deliveries based on the Reich's name to be properly repealed in its entirety. According to Braunschweign representative and KVP member Linda Halle, the proposal actively infringes on the culture of foreign peoples, and will send out a very negative image of Wieserreich to abroad.

With discussions in the Reichsrat continuing, the row is expected to escalate as Saxony's first minister Gustav Adolf von Nichtstein (KVP) is expected to refer the matter to the Reichstag, amidst concerns that this can actually hurt the financial performance of export-oriented corporations that base themselves in the Archduchy. Thus far, no Lords seated in the Reichstag have taken a public stance on the matter.
