Did the Queen find her Prince Charming?
Merteuil

The Queen and her sister Princess Catherine had plenty of young, eligible bachelors to look at Monday evening as they attended The General's Ball. With their clean boots, shining medals and well-trimmed faces, it was safe to say the young princesses had plenty of gentlemen to fill their dance cards.

Fortunately, they had the good graces of their mother and grandmother to ensure they remained on their best behavior.

The cotillion is as an annual fundraiser for wounded war veterans and their families. This year the Ball was hosted at the residence of the queen's uncle His Royal Highness General-Brigadier The Duc de Bon, who has spent most of his life in armed service to the Crown.

Both courtiers and the press watched carefully as Queen Marie danced with several colonels and commanders, hoping for a sign of approval. The unmarried queen has yet to choose possible suitors among the Cœurlois aristocracy. One imagines that, should she not find a possible husband as The General's Ball, the Government may have to find one for her abroad.

Meanwhile, the Nation prepares for the Coronation ceremony in a month's time.

Budget is Unveiled
Merteuil

The Treasury Secretary revealed the budget Thursday morning. It has been announced there will increasing spending for military and infrastructural programs.

Victor Guyon presented the Budget before the Chamber. In its current form, 100mn francs has been earmarked to invest in modern technology for the Royal Army and Navy. This will also be used for recruitment of personnel.

“In a time of tension between states, Cœurléon must be prepared for the unknown and uncertain,” M. Guyon said before the Deputies. He also called for plans to build the first Cœurlois nuclear power station, deemed “the greatest contribution for the future of energy.” If passed, 300mn will be used to procure a site for the plant and stockpile uranium for use.

No new taxes have been raised, though a tariff on imported timber, coal and steel will be renewed this year.

Queen gives Speech at Palace
Merteuil

"As We prepare to take the Oath and Service for Our Coronation in a weeks time, We reflect on the life and dedication Our late and most beloved grandfather. His Majesty King Louis the Tenth inherited the Crown of Glory at a time of great uncertainty both at home and abroad. And yet, during the fifteen years of the Republic, his continued dedication to his country never faltered. It is to him that inspires Us to dedicate a lifetime commitment to you, the people.

Within a weeks time, I shall be blessed with the oil and take part in a ceremony that has been passed down for generations. And yet, for the first time ever, this device shall be broadcasted to televisions across the country. Do not reflect on the jewels and rites, but remember that this ceremony is for you. In fact, it is for all of us - for we are family. And as much as I rely on the wisdom of my family, I entrust myself to you. And I hope and pray that, with the Will of God, I shall do my duty with all my heart.

Next Thursday, whether you are in your homes, at a tavern or participating in the streets, look upon this Coronation Day as a day of renewal. A day to celebrate the rituals of the past, but also to celebrate the wonders and hope of the future. And whether my reign be long or short, I sincerely pray you celebrate that my reign be joyous and fruitful."

The Imperial Government seeks to open dialogue with its counterpart in Merteuil to allow greater access between our government and financial institutions in the great country of Coeurleon. It is our hope that the counterpart government realises the mammoth battle that Sikandara is fighting against communism in Touyou and how great the responsibility it is that we bear.

Royal Engagement to End?
Merteuil

A group of 100 petitioners in Parlement has drafted a letter to Queen Henrietta Maria, weeks after her Coronation, asking her to end her engagement to The Marquis Valois de Saint-Germain.

It has been revealed in the press that the 27-year-old's father had dealings with Jean-François Disannde, the former dictator of Cœurléon.

On Monday, a report delivered by Mssr. Jean-Claude Ursens, the Populaire Deputy from Montbeau, alleged the late marquis used his family's bank to make secret transactions on behalf of the former President. Over the course of his brutal regime, the Valois Bank held nearly a quarter of Disannde's assets. The report also states the family bank still has reserves amounting up to 3.2 bn Cœur. The Marquis' personal wealth includes full control of the Bank.

The Palace has yet to make an official statement.

The Imperial Government is alarmed by the findings about the prospective royal spouse of Coerleon. The Dissande era is known for its brutality and the nascent democracy in Coerleon shall be adversely affected if this engagement is allowed to continue. Furthermore, the ties between our government and its counterpart in Merteuil shall also be placed under review.

Queen breaks off Engagement
Merteuil

An official press release confirmed Queen Henrietta Maria has officially ended her engagement to Louis Joseph, the 27-year-old Marquis Valois de Saint-Germain. The announcement came after a petition in the Chamber of Deputies asked the Queen to cancel her engagement over issues regarding her betrothed’s finances.

On Monday, a report confirmed the Valois Bank had dealings with former President Jean-François Disannde during his brutal regime.

The Queen arrived back at the palace in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after spending the past couple of days with the Royal Family as her grandmother Queen Joséphine remained ill. Shortly after it was announced the Queen Dowager’s health improved the 23-year-old Queen immediately returned to the capital to handle the situation.

The question now remains: will The Queen have a happily ever after?

The Imperial Government is pleased to note that HM The Queen of Coeurleon has chosen the side of democracy. The Government of Sikandara is placing Valois Bank under its list of banned organisations until that company does not openly disclose the role it played during the Disande era. Furthermore, we call on the Government of Coeurleon to act as a responsible government and conduct inquiries to establish whether or not other companies served as the facilitators of the dictatorial regime. The Imperial Government of Sikandara awaits the response of its counterpart in Merteuil.

The Republic of Asylan is sorry to hear of the unfortunate cessation of wedding plans for Queen Marie II Joséphine, and Asylan wished her the greatest luck in finding a suitable partner in life. As a result of this new evidence from Cœurléon regarding the Valois bank, Asylan wished to apologize for ever using its services at any point during the regime of President Jean-François Disannde, and has cut any relationship between our two organizations.

Queen Dowager to find Royal Suitor
Merteuil

In a rare and surprising move, The Queen Dowager has sent a letter to be distributed from all the Cœurlois embassies, calling for a list of potential suitors for her granddaughter The Queen.

Queen Joséphine, 65, returned to her Merteuil residence Sunday morning. Her Majesty, who recently recovered from an illness, was warmly welcomed by an exciting crowd of well-wishers. Hours later the Foreign Secretary and his wife were received by the Dowager. It is believed during the two-hourlong audience she gave him her letter.

In the letter, Queen Joséphine expressed the need to find a suitable husband to continue “the great and royal bloodline” of the Royal House. She also quips that, while a Prince would be suitable, “if one must settle for a Duke, one settles.”

“Her Majesty the Queen gave her blessing to Her Majesty the Queen Dowager,” a spokesman for the Foreign Office. “Her Majesty wrote this not as an official of the Government but, first and foremost, a loving grandmother.”

All of Cœurléon will surely be waiting to hear for responses.

Nation Prepares for Queen's Birthday
Merteuil

Weeks after her coronation, and days after the breakup of her engagement to the Marquis Valois de Saint-Germain, Queen Henrietta Maria will celebrate her 18th birthday on Saturday the 17th.

The Queen was born months before her grandfather King Louis X was restored on the Cœurlois throne in 1936. Her father, Prince Henri, was heir-apparent but died when the then Princess was only six years old. He left behind his wife Princess Marie, the present Queen and a younger daughter, Princess Catherine.

A service wil be held at Notre-Dame de Merteuil, followed by a parade and a flyover by the 1st Grand Squadron, Royal Air Force.

OFFICE OF THE KOMMISSAR OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

We at the Commonwealth of Vendland wish to express our hopes that the celebrations put together by the royalist government of Coeurleon are not too extravagant that it takes away money meant for the people, be it in their health, their safety or their education. While we understand and appreciate the celebration of life, we hope that the Queen of Coeurleon remembers it is she who should serve the people of her nation, and not vice-versa.

Sincerely,

Government to audit Valois Bank, Guarantees action
Merteuil

The Treasury Secretary addressed the Chamber of Deputies this afternoon, promising a full investigation of the Bank.

“The brutality of the regime did not include the execution of thousands of individuals, but also their loss of life and economic liberty,” Mssr. Victor Guyon stated in his address. “Her Majesty’s Government must prosecute any and all individuals who collaborated with Mssr. Disannde and his cohorts, to the fullest extent of the law.”

Before a packed Deputies, the secretary announced proposed a bill that would allow the Government to seize assets that belonged to Disannde and his allies. Mssr. Guyon also announced the creation of a task force that would employ agents from among several agencies, including the National Tax Audit Bureau, Customs & Revenues, and the Royal Gendarmerie. It is now believed the regime of the brutal dictator sent assets abroad or hid them in private banks in the Kingdom.

The investigation began after it was discovered Valois Bank was one of several banks used by former President Disannde and several key members of his government. News came shortly after it was announced the bank’s owner, the Marquis Valois de Saint-Germain, was engaged to Queen Henrietta Maria. Earlier this month, Her Majesty officially broke off the engagement.

Pardon Shakes Cabinet!
Merteuil

The Speaker of the Chamber has been asked by more than 200 Deputies to bring the entire Cabinet before the assembly, hours after it was announced the Prime Minister has asked The Queen to pardon Jean-Paule Disannde.

"It is the duty of my office to formally call upon The Cabinet of Her Majesty's Most Trusted & Esteemed Council of State," the Speaker of the Chamber, Olivier Cotte, read before the Chamber this afternoon. The motion was overwhelmingly passed in the lower house, with at least half the votes coming from the ruling Conservative party.

The Prime Minister will be given three days to respond to the motion. Failure to do so may result in a No Confidence vote.

Jean-Paule Disannde became President of the Coeurlois Republic after the death of his father, Jean-François. However, his rule was cut short after support for the Monarchy soared, bringing back Louis X to the throne in 1936. Accused of embezzlement and murder, Disannde has been sentenced to life in prison.

A government spokesman made no comment.

Queen Returns to Capital
Merteuil

The Queen made a formal entry into Merteuil this afternoon, after a monthlong stay at the Château d'Espeyrac.

It is usually the custom of Monarchs to withdraw from the bustling Merteuil to the spa city of Espeyrac, 97 miles northeast from the capital. It is from the royal family's ancestral home that Court is held.

The Queen, accompanied by The Queen Dowager, arrived into the capital in The Merteuil State Coach. They were escorted by Royal Musketeers on Horseback. The streets were lined with hundreds - if not thousands - of well-wishes, happy to see the young Queen return home. But it will not be an easy week for the new monarch.

There are already bets the Government will collapse, or Parlement prorogued, this week over The Prime Minister's request to pardon Jean-Paule Disannde. Queen Henrietta Maria will also attend the funeral of Emperor Francesco VIII this week.

PM RESIGNS!
Merteuil

Mssr. Albert Coïdavid has tendered his resignation to the Queen this morning at Palais de Sainte-Elisabeth. His resignation is seen by many as the result of his proposal to pardon Jean-Paule Disannde, son of the late President of the Republic.

Mssr. Coïdavid has been in politics since for almost 20 years. Holding the seat for Montchapeau's 11th arrondissement, he became Leader of the Opposition in 1947 before winning a landslide victory for his party in 1952. Seen as the 'Great Negotiator', he was respected by many in Parlement for his ability to find compromise with his political opponents.

However, in recent weeks he has lost the support of his party over the proposal to pardon the son of Jean-François Disannde. Tension erupted after more than half of the Conservative Deputies broke ranks, joining with others to request the Speaker of the Chamber summon the leadership.

"I have dedicated my life to Crown & Country," Mssr. Coïdavid said outside Hôtel de Loncret, the official residence of the prime minister. "And will continue to do so in the Deputies."

The Conservatives leadership have already picked the Foreign Secretary, Count Maximilen de Cöez du Barche, as the next prime minister. He is expected to kiss hands with Her Majesty after she asks him to form a new Government.
