Indeed. That country existed. There even existed a country that mainly traded sexy female underwear. That was not Grated Cheese by the way, but ECE (États conféderées d'Europe).

Wow - this brings back memories! Monkecia has been around for 10 years now! Who knew a link from a friend to a "silly, boring little game" would do that!

Though I do need to minutes the five years since I left until three days ago... 2003 - 2006, then 2013-? who knows???!

Clearly this is the beginning of a bold new era!

Personally I do find it rather funny that in my various incarnations, I've been around in this community for seven years or something. And all that just started with someone posting a link to Nationstates to a Finnish game discussion board, and me eventually discovering Europe. Actually, it's interesting to think that without that someone and his links I'd probably have never discovered this place. :p

I think I found NationStates through a link on a Warhammer forum, and soon after NSEurope as my Eurocentric sensibilities compelled me to move to the region, where I then joined the forum - my teenage years sadly wasted

OMG!!!!! The old Europe MAP!!!!

September 2003!!!!! I played a version of nasty fascist Portusgalia!!!! Odinium was my ally in the game xD And Portusgalia was great enemy of the must proeminent fascist country in the game, Nosterra! It was something like the rivalry between China and the USSR back in the 60s xD

From 2006 or 2007 when I occupied the peninsula south of Coronet.

Hmm I remember looking at some of the first maps when I originally started playing NationStates, participating in a few alliances (Atlantic Central Command, the Meritocratic Senate) that weren't on good terms with Europe. I remember being intrigued by the system of alliances and people roleplaying their own nation and the isolationist mentality.

Can we, like, remake the map like this? I don't care how comparatively ugly it was, I'm getting so many nostalgia feels from times when I was just about to show up and start playing here.

Even though I absolutely hated the old map, calling it ugly was a gross understatement, I did appreciate how it didn't resemble the real world map.

I really think it had a better game value, regional hotspots were more common because of the general equal size of map spots and many nations sharing straits or gulfs etc.

Yeah it was a pretty bad map propped up by nostalgia. Good riddance, good thing it will never return.

May we forever enjoy the prosperity which our current geostrategically uninteresting map affords us.

Anything outside of Gallia-Germania is effectively ignored and disregarded. Though the time period probably also doesn't help.
