Explosion in Batavian capital, Vlaanderen
 Reports from Batavie report that central Vlandeern was the scene of chaos earlier today after a gas leak triggered an explosion that destroyed a grocery store in the city centre. As of yet there has been no confirmed report on the number of dead or injured, but the incident is believed to have caused some loss of human life. The Aren Foreign Minister has expressed the condolences of the Aren government and people to the Batavians on the eve of this tragedy.

Royal StatOil appoints new CEO, set to increase exports
 The board of directors of Royal StatOil (RSO), the largest Aren Oil company and the country’s only state owned oil company, has announced the appointment of a new CEO. Gustav Svensen (42), share holder and member of the company’s board of directors since 1998 has been selected with the approval of the Ministry of Energy and the National Parliament. Svensen announced at a press conference held in Emyn Arnen earlier today that he was “honoured by the decision” and that he intended to significantly expand the level of oil Arendaal exports and diversify the number of countries which it currently exports to.

It is believed that the matter of increased oil exports will be raised with the delegation from Belmont headed by Queen Diana I, currently in Emyn Arnen for talks.

Arendaal would be most honoured to increase its oil supply to Montelimar by as much as Montelimar's Government should choose. We are most pleased that one of the nations Arendaal holds in high esteem should desire to receive oil from our nation.

Belmontien-Aren Royal Engagement Speculated; Queen Diana I to Visit Arendaal
 Karlheim Palace confirmed earlier today that Queen Diana I of Belmont is to visit the Aren capital within the next few days. The announcement comes on the heels of speculation that Belmont’s Crown Prince [WIKI]Nicolas, Prince de Montaigne[/WIKI], has proposed to [WIKI]Princess Iselin of Arendaal[/WIKI]. The third child and second daughter of [WIKI]King Edvard V of Arendaal[/WIKI] and Queen Laura of Franken, inside sources suggest that Iselin is expected to marry the Heir to the throne of Belmont within the year. Officials have neither confirmed or denied the rumours, stating only that the Belmontien Queen intended to visit the Aren Royal Family and that Princess Iselin would indeed be present to meet the Queen.

His Majesty King Edvard V of Arendaal and His Majesty’s government would be most honoured to welcome the Prime Minister of Batavië to Arendaal at his earliest convenience. The Aren Government and people stand behind their southern neighbours in this difficult time of transition and would be glad to discuss matters of mutual interest with PM de Jonghe in further detail

Queen Diana I of Belmont visits Arendaal
:arrow:Belmont’s Queen Diana I left Emyn Arnen today after a week long stay with the Aren Royal family. Insiders have speculated that the Queen seemed particularly interested in getting to know [WIKI]Princess Iselin of Arendaal[/WIKI], fuelling fervent rumours of an upcoming engagement between the princess and Belmont’s Crown Prince. The couple was recently spotted at a boutique owned by Cartier Jewelers. [WIKI]Karlheim Palace[/WIKI] has so far refused to comment on whether the young royals were there to buy an engagement ring.

Batavië’s Prime Minister expected to visit Emyn Arnen
:arrow:King Edvard V’s government has extended a formal invitation to the Prime Minister of Batavië, Alex de Jonghe, to visit Emyn Arnen. This will be the first official visit of a Batavien leader to Arendaal since the fall of the country’s communist regime. The Aren government has repeatedly expressed their support for the new government in Vlaanderen and hot topics on the agenda are expected to be investment, economic assistant, political and diplomatic support and the establishment of a Northern Council. An Aren delegation headed by the Foreign Minister is currently attending a conference to discuss the establishment of such a council alongside the other nations of northern Europe.

Fashion Guru Takes Army Shopping For Less Hideous Uniforms
 Fashion consultant and reality television star E.E.Bonnevie surprised the General Commander of the Army this Monday by unexpectedly arriving at Arendaal's Army Headquarters and offering to help the Army shop for less repulsive uniforms.

"I happened to see the soldiers on television, and I couldn't believe they were out in public wearing such garish ensembles," said Bonnevie, who was born and raised in a windmill in southern Hainaut. "That antique-green color is just appalling, and frankly, against that colour the unbalanced medals on their chests look frumpy. Furthermore, the shoes are very unflattering."

"No wonder we never go to war," added Bonnevie, claiming he felt obligated to assist the "fashion-challenged" army. "It's just shameful for professional killers to be dressed in outfits that fail to accentuate their strength, sleekness, and dashing qualities."

While the majority of the Army officers were initially reluctant when asked to discard their old uniforms, the 6-foot-9 General Major Knut Larssen admitted that with Bonnevie's guidance he felt confident enough to wear bolder colors. He also said he learned that the silhouette of his former uniform did not highlight his wide shoulders. "Thankfully, I found out that the shirt I was wearing was too long, which deemphasized the contours of my waist," Larssen added.

The Ministry of Defence announced today that the Army's official uniform was indeed about to be changed, from combat green to navy blue. Bonnevie was reportedly very proud of the armies sartorial efforts. Speaking of the new uniforms, Bonnevie told reporters, "Out army has come so far,". Wiping away a tear with his pocket square, he added, "Now, just look at them—they are simply gorgeous."

The new uniforms, pending the cabinet's approval, are to be navy blue, trimmed with white. The Aren Navy, whose uniforms are vaguely similar, is said to be furious.

Foreign Ministry Confirms Upcoming 'Oil Talks' with Belmont
 A spokesman for the Aren Foreign Ministry confirmed today that talks have been scheduled with representatives from Belmont about the expansion of Aren oil exports to the country. A high ranking Belmontien delegation is expected to arrive in Emyn Arnen later this week for discussions which the Foreign Ministry hopes will result in an agreement being signed by the end of the month.

Royal StatOil representative Adele Erichsen told reporters that the company is "completely capable" of increasing its exports to Belmont, and that a "mutually beneficial" arrangement was imminent. The Belmontien Ambassador to Arendaal declined specific questions on the subject but acknowledged that talks were to go ahead. "Our two countries share a long history of friendship and cooperation," His Excellency noted, "and so it is natural for our economic partnership to be further strengthened."

A wave of good feeling towards all things Belmontien is currently also the social flavour of the month in Arendaal following the wedding of the Belmontien Crown Prince, Nicolas, Prince of Montaigne, to the Aren Princess Iselin (now Elise).

Editorial: Popularity of Food Soars
 Statistics reveal that food is more popular than ever.

Leading researchers working for premiere Think Tank ERPYJ have announced unequivocally that "People Like Food." Doctor P. J. Hammersmark told an ARNN that: "These days it's hard to get people to agree on things. Some people like wearing shorts all the time, but other people think you always have to dress up nice. Some people like movies with cartoons in them, but other people only like watching real people. How do you find a middle ground? You don't. It's impossible. But, there's one thing I've found where I think we can all agree: food. People like food."

Independent sources have verified the declaration. Here's a fact: Food has been around forever. Food was there when [WIKI]Gustav I of Arendaal[/WIKI] unified the country. Food was there during the Revolution of Light. If you think about it, eating food is the one thing humans have always done. It's what makes us who we are. Without food, could we really even call ourselves human? We'd probably be tired and hungry. Or dead.

Belmontien Delegation Arrives In Arendaal For Oil Talks
 A prominent delegation of the Belmontien government arrived in Emyn Arnen this morning for talks with government officials about increasing Aren oil supplies to Belmont.

The delegation, headed by Belmont's Minister of Energy, Achille Riviere, and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Victor Peroché, received a warm greeting at Emyn Arnen International Airport from the Aren Foreign Minister. The high ranking officials then made their way to the Residence of the Prime Minister where talks began.

The Aren Prime Minister, Svea Bjornsen, as well as the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Finance and Commerce, Natural Resources and Trade, alongside the top representatives of Royal StatOil, were all present at the talks. The Belmontien Deputy Minister of Finance is further scheduled to meet with his Aren counterpart in a series of related meetins tomorrow, aimed at improving the existing economic agreements set up between both Kingdoms. Amendments to improve cooperation between Aren and Belmontien intelligence agencies are also on the agenda, the Ministry of Defense confirmed today.

Details of the outcome have yet to be confirmed. The delegation is expected to remain in Arendaal until Wednesday, until which time discussions will presumably continue. A spokesperson for Royal StatOil told reporters that the talks "had gone exceptionally well" and that "details of a beneficial oil deal are being ironed out" at the moment.

Lucrative Oil Deal Agreed with Belmont
 After nearly a week of rigorous talks, an oil deal was signed today between Arendaal and Belmont. According to its terms, Arendaal is to become one of Belmont's top three suppliers of oil and natural gas.

The deal, a propitious one for the Government and Royal StatOil alike, will see oil exports to Belmont triple over the next year. Analysts agree that the speed and size of the agreement reflects the Belmontien aim of lessening its reliance on Talemantine oil.

Greater cooperation between Aren and Belmontien intelligence services, as well as greater commercial cooperation between the two countries were also agreed at the talks.

The Petroleum Oil Supply Agreement 2010 has brought the Kingdoms of Arendaal and Belmont closer together. It is our hope that the bilateral relationship of both our kingdoms continue to expand in coming centuries, as they have done since the marriage of Princess Engeltrude of Belmont to HM King Edvard I in 998.

Crucified Corpse found in Karlheim Palace Gardens
 Emyn Arnen: Police have confirmed that the mutilated remains of a man have been recovered at day break from the public section of [WIKI]Karlheim Palace[/WIKI]’s gardens.

The victim was apparently crucified upside down after sustaining multiple injuries from torture. It is as yet unclear who is to blame for this bizarre and gruesome deed, but the security services have launched an immediate investigation to bring the culprits to justice. The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed but inquiries by forensic investigators are taking place.

Karlheim Palace, the residence of [WIKI]King Edvard V of Arendaal[/WIKI], has never before seen such brutality, a spokesperson for the Royal household told reporters some hours ago. The representative conveyed the King’s shock at the incident and his desire that the perpetrators be apprehended swiftly.

Meanwhile the Government’s Press Secretary appealed for calm and urged the media not to blow the incident out of proportion. “The victim was found in the public parks and not in the Palace, as the media seems bent on insinuating,” Press Secretary Johannesson stressed at a press conference earlier today, “We are confident that the responsible party will imminently be apprehended by security personnel and brought to justice for taking the life of another human being.”

This gruesome and horrid act, surely inspired by the dangers of a religious fanatical sect, is an outrageous event that we hope is solved as quickly as possible. In solidarity with our Northern Council allies and partners we offer the full support of the entire Batavian Police, Veiligheidspolitie and other authority and investigative branches. We are at your service.

The Government of Arendaal offers its heartfelt gratitude to our Batavian counterparts for their concern on the eve of this brutal criminal act. We have no doubt that the Aren Police Force and Intelligence Services will imminently apprehended the perpetrators of this heinous deed. However, we are grateful for Batavie's offer assistance and will not hesitate to contact Batavie's investigative branches should the miscreants not be apprehended forthwith
