"Of course I understand, Matthias, that Eiffelland must remain committed to a public stance that the matter is an internal affair of the fucking north pole. But there are ways. Convince His Majesty to say 'tut tut.' Get Gøternhaven on the phone and bluff. Find some microbes and slap some sanitary regulations on their exports."
Robert sighed deeply.
"What I really want is Eiffelland to admit only that this is an issue of sovereignty, international law, and northern security, not to mention civil war in a volatile region, and to step in as a mediator, and strongly urge all parties to closed-door talks to resolve the dispute. You appear only as peacemakers, and at the negotiating table Steve Larkin gets to pressure for a wee little compromise that helps Clan Gunn save face, and solves my angry boys problem. I need great power involvement, and it would be awkward to go to Ivar."
