Nationalists surge ahead in polls

  • Panic among main parties
  • 'Sympathy vote' for Schneider-Krogsgaard
Magda Steinn, Chief Political Correspondent
Christiansborg

Nationalist Hjemland are placed ahead of the Liberal Party, the first time a nationalist party has had higher ratings than a major party, throwing the establishment parties into desperation to roll back the tide of nationalism increasingly dominating the national elections.

A syndicated opinion poll places Hjemland on 29.6% compared to the Liberal Party of the incumbent Statsminister who are at 29.1%.

The increase in poll ratings has largely been attributed to widespread sympathy following the attempted murder of the nationalist leader, Asbjorn Schneider-Krogsgaard and popular revulsion at violence entering the national elections, a point that Hjemland has actively sought to capitalise on.

If the polls are correct and are an accurate reflection of the election results due to be announced in one week's time, it would mean that Hjemland would become the lead party and be asked to form the next government following the traditional invitation and visit to the King at Karlskrona Slot.

However, the percentages are still so narrow that it is still too early to tell who will end up in the lead position and the likelihood of another coalition is on the cards.

The last time a single party gained enough votes was in 2000 when the Social Democrat Poul Edvard Jensen scored a crushing landslide with 58% of the vote, but it does not appear that any party will be able to match that record this time around.

News that the Liberals had been knocked into second place has been met with a mixture of calm and anguish inside the Liberal camp who are expected to do all they can to appeal to voters over their economic and foreign policy record and warn the public that a Hjemland dominated coalition is dangerous and an unknown quantity.

Many Liberals are said to be alarmed that there is a chance that the Statsminister Hr. Jens Peder Hillerod may lose the chance of returning as head of government despite appearing to have a largely dominant and seeeming impregnable position and a strong record in office due to the assassination attempt.

Their multi-millon krone election coffers and attempts to crush the nascent nationalist party, which only formed a few weeks ago, do not seem to have succeeded following the upsurge in favour of Schneider-Krogsgaard and the shooting incident in Skanderborg.

The Hjemland leader is understood to be recuperating at home following an operation after the attack but is reportedly 'itching' to get back on the campaign trail.

The syndicated poll result has little consolation for the other parties apart from the Greens and the Agarian Leader and current Vice Statsminister, Hr. Svend Fulk.

The Social Democrats are down to 24.2%, with many party activists lamenting what many see as a lack-lustre performance, whilst the Agrarians have slumped to a base support of 8.9% loosing almost 50% of their support with the only commiseration that its leader, Svend Fulk, now looks likely to keep his Folkhus seat despite earlier indications that he may not do so.

The Greens, meanwhile, have done well scoring 6.9% up from around 3% earlier in the election.

The leftist Ny Venstre seems to be struggling for survival as it is left reeling by the fact that Torsten Bak, an ideological supporter of the party, is due before a court for the attempted killing of the Hjemland leader, and it struggling to fight over the remaining votes with five other parties including two regional parties, the German Sachsen Partei and the Danish regionalist Slesvig Unionen.

However, most analysts concede that whoever comes out on top it will be difficult.

"If Hjemland emerges as the larger party it will face a struggle to find coalition partners unless it can haggle points with one or more other parties to get over the 51% needed to effectively govern. It could try to go it alone as a minority government but it would risk jeopardy to its legislative program with the risk of being out-voted by the combined might of the Liberals and Social Democrats who collective weight will far outway what Hjemland can itself muster. They will need to do more to appeal to less nationalist minded voters and parties to have a realistic chance of governing", claimed Henk Lampaard of the main polling agency, Danske Meningsm
åling.

"In that event of a failure to enter into coalition, the chalice would fall to the current Statsminister who, based on the poll figures, would be the leader of the second party. He would find it easier to enter into a coalition agreement though in what form it could take is open to debate. Either way, the next week will be particularly interesting. Whilst Hjemland needs to appeal to the less nationalist, the others will need to up their nationalist credentials to roll back the tide of electoral nationalist sentiment and sympathy for Schneider-Krogsgaard".

It is little surprise to most officianados that Hjemland have managed to steal the show following the attempted murder of Asbjørn Schneider-Krogsgaard.

What is more spectacular is that the Liberals have failed to fight off the challengers given their pole position. Even the 'great table thumper' Statsminister seems unable to thwart the tsunami that is nationalism.

But it is still a game to play for. The poll margins of error are +/- 3% so it is hard to tell who is actually on top. But that the Liberals have thus far failed to strike a convincing lead is ominous.

But the main parties, as I warned, have been complacent and have thus been found with their pants around their ankles in embarassment. Can they learn to change that in the final week?

The parties will seek to look for a scapegoat but the biggest problem is, arguably, themselves. They have relied on cash to seek to win the election and have not done enough convincing of hearts and minds.

Hjemland has shown itself a tids
ånden (zeitgeist) of the moment. It has been able to convincing tune itself to the prevailing undercurrent of public sentiment which is increasingly proud and anti-foreign in its views. The biggest casualty in this election in terms of anti-foreign sentiment will be the Germanian League. If Hjemland wins this election, it will be one of the first things it will deal with by suspending membership.
But even if it doesn't, whoever comes to power will have to deal with that issue.

For all his statesmanship and self-belief in his course as being 'right', the current Statsminister has a huge Achilles Heel in the Germanian League. He may claim its fruits and benefits, but many ordinary Danes do not see it that way.

If he again takes the reins of power, will be able to commit to a volte-face in his Germanian policy or will he plough on regardless?

If he does, can he convince enough of the public to follow him?

That is one huge 'what if?'

Potenzan political donation causes election fallout
Arne Bentzen
Christiansborg

Opposition parties have heavily criticised the acceptance by the Liberale Parti of Kr 14.8m (
2m Potenzan Lira) in political donations to help the re-election of the Statsminister as an "outrageous example of foreign interference and greasy skulduggery by the Liberals", according to Johannes Christoffersen, the Social Democrat leader
.

The outburst against the donation came as the election campaign has become more heated as it entered its final week with all parties playing to hit the dominant Liberal Party and chase votes before the election next Sunday.

The donation has become a major headache for the Liberals as they have been rounded on from all sides with questions being asked about the party for accepting the cash as it is already the wealthiest party with an estimated Kr 260m in an election fighting fund, far outstripping its rivals.

The donations came from a special loosely formed political advocacy group termed "Potenzans for the Liberal Party". Donatees include the Potenzan Prime Minister Gaetano Merlino, and two prominent aristocrats Count Niccolo di Grimadi and Duke Guido della Torre.

Johannes Christoffersen also slammed the acceptance by the Liberals of foreign donations as "irresponsible" and a "feckless desire by them to hold onto power at all costs".

"Their expediency knows no bounds. I call for a change to the law on foreign donations and a cap on the amount donated by private interests. It isn't healthy for democracy to have cliques financing campaigns like this. This donation by foreign concerns is unprecdented. We also call for the Liberal Party to be transparent and open up its accounts for public inspection".

But the Liberals rejected the accusations levelled against them by the leader of the Social Democrats and also by other political parties.

"There is nothing wrong in accepting donations from various quarters and there is no law against it. Indeed, it is an indication of confidence. The Potenzan donation is merely one of many donations to our campaign and is only a small part. We can count on the multitude of ordinary Danish people and small businesses who are confident in our pro-business policies and our advocation of temperance in foreign affairs. If the other parties had the same appeal, then perhaps they would have equal standing in donatory bequeathments.", said the secretary of the Liberal Party, Fulmar Svendssen.

He also criticised the Social Democrats for their links to trade unions: "I think it is rich for them to criticise our finances when they are bank-rolled by the unions, but this is something they are keen to avoid talking about. In who's pockets are they? They have never made this clear".

However, the issue of foreign interference has taken a turn as nationalist Hjemland sought to distinguish a distinct line between themselves and the established parties.

"We don't accept donations from outside interests. We are transparent - our finances are open to inspection. There are no backroom deals and brown envelopes stuffed with the King's Schilling, especially from foreign donors. We trust the Danes to make their own wise decisions and we only accept Danish donations".

Montelimar peace heralds new dawn
Eluf Damsgaard

The armistice agreement (cession of hostilties) between Engellex and Montelimar has opened the doors to a new era of cooperation between Danmark and Great Engellex, the Foreign Office has announced.

The armistice, as the Engellexians phase it, has seemingly ended the war between the two countries but with a significant victory by Engellex over the forces of Montelimar which continues to cause debate in Danish political circles and the public, as 90,000 refugees escaped the conflict to seek asylum in the Kingdom, with many calls for intervention.

But Henrik Westerveld heralded the cessation of hostilities as "heralding a new and official era of working alongside Great Engellex for the common good and regional stability".

Christiansborg was one of the first to welcome the news announced from Dulwich with the apparent ending of the war breathing fresh life into Dano-Engellexian relations.

The main focus, according to the Foreign Office, will be economic and political relations with a keen determination by Danmark to help in the reconstruction of war-torn Montelimar.

Previously, the Vice Statsminister, Svend Fulk, had called for the Montelimarian royal family to be evacuated to Danmark due to links to the Danish royal family, though negotiations are currently in process with Franken, where it is believed the Montelimarian royal family currently live in exile.

Henrik Westerveld affirmed that Christiansborg would be working closely with Dulwich.

"Whilst we still have qualms over Montelimar and will be calling for an equitable settlement that saves the graces of the Montelimarian people, the Kingdom believes that the time is ripe for a thorough working relationship. I shall be inviting my opposite number to Christiansborg for talks to discuss mutual ground and consensus".

As an indication of changed relations, HKH Prince Lauritz and HKH Prince Ingeborg are due to visit Engellex following a successful tour of Gallia, and are due to arrive in Dulwich on Tuesday.

The likelihood is that the Danish royal visit will be a prelude to the attendance of Queen Empress Charlotte at the coronation of Crown Prince Sweyn.

Danish royals, given their distinct heritage and symbolism of identity, make rare visits abroad. The fact that HKH Prince Laurirz and his consort have visited Engellex is indicative of a new era in relations, claim many observers.

"The Danes do not simply send their royal family members abroad at the drop of a hat. It is a rare honour that not even the Germanian League nations have been able to extract", said one observer.

Military practices mountain, Snieg exercises
Rasmus Wulff
Kongenbjerg Canton

The Crown Forces have announced a series of intensive mountain warfare exercises to prepare for alpine conditions and hone techniques.

The exercises are an extension of routine training to prepare and practice recruits in mountain warfare and in precarious terrain to defend alpine borders, involving
a joint-liaison between army, airforce and marines and will take place over coming months.

As the northern border of the Kingdom is moutainous, greater emphasis has been placed on defensive and attack manoeuvres as part the Phase II military overhaul.

Also, the Joint Crown Forces will undertake extensive training in semi-Arctic conditions on the Snieg region of northern Midgaard in the next few weeks to test personnel to their limits in sub-zero temperatures. Those tests are expected to involve all arms of the Danish military.

There are wider considerations to the exercises as Danmark increasingly seems determined to engage in a foreign-militarist direction with Alpine manoeuvres seen in that context by military analysts.

The Joint Crown Forces have also said that they will undertake desert training and manoeuvres to prepare the military for all temperature ranges.
'Chain of Steel' initiative
Per Claus & Frederikke Knudsen-Holm
Christiansborg & Sharjah, The Jurzan

Fovarsministeriet (the defence ministry) announced a significant integrated proactive and reactive defence strategy to join together Danish Long Sea and Sindh Policy into one called St
ålkæden, or the Chain of Steel.

The new defence initiative is expected to work alongside existing naval base agreements in the northern Himyar states of Altai, Jurzan and Talemantros as well as add beef to the Danish policy of defending Cisalpine Germania (Germania south of the Alps).

The Dano-Breotish Pact will remain unaffected as the Chain of Steel initiative will incorporate the archipelago of F
ærøerne and joint-agreements with Breotonia allowing the Danes to meet their joint commitments alongside Lunden.

It also announced a major focus on collaboration with the Kyivan People's Republic, an extension of the Sindh Quartet.

The major change is consolidation of Danish Southern Policy with a clearer demonstration of regional and homeland defence with the development of a rapid-reaction force involving the airforce, army, navy and marines and other technology - a step up from the sole naval focus of late.

The Defence Ministry stated that the Chain of Steel Initiative will be primarily protective and as a robust deterrent in 'reaction to events and threats to interests' but the announcement of the initiative at this time is indicative of greater seriousness, though it was clear in stating that
St
ålkæden would be not used in offence 'unless Danish interests were threatened' which if it were to transpire 'the full force of Stålkæden would be put into effect in part or in whole'.

The ministry stated: 'It is not expected that our interests will be harmed in the short term, but all precautions must be taken and it is wise to do so in reaction to future events'.

Analysts say that alongside maritime issues, the Danes have a keen focus on protecting its Jurzani oil source following the announcement of the construction of an oil pipeline servicing oil requirements which Christiansborg has indicated it will defend stringently.

Alongside that, Christiansborg and Sharjah signed a naval base agreements very similar to the Altai agreement, though as yet Forvarsministeriet has not made an announcement about basing naval forces there but announced that it would do so 'if the need arose'.

Protests against 'outsiders'

Protestors show their dislike of the 'foreign' bidet
Ultra-nationalist protesters gathered outside the Danish parliament, Folkehuset, to express their anger and indignation at what they denigrate as 'alien influences that corrupt the 'Danish Way'' with a focus on Germanophobia and, bizarrely, the Montelimarian bidet.

The protests galvanised during the election campaign following the nationalist surge with many calling for the erosion of non-Danish influences and withdrawal from the Germanian League, the bogeyman for many nationalists, as a litmus of corruptive influences against the Danes' Scanian heritage.

But a great deal of ire was directed at Section 11 of the Public Hygiene Act brought into law earlier this year that made bidets compulsory for all households and the phasing out of lavatory paper by 2014.

According to belief, the bidet (the Montelimari
én term) was invented by the Montelimarian Jean Baptiste Dupois who struggled to find a market in his homeland but who found a ready acceptance in hygience conscious and ultra-clean Danmark. But others say that the Danish inventor Mikael Krønssen invented it 20 years before Dupois patenting it as the røvstrålen (anal cleanser), but due to his early death he was overshadowed by Dupois.

But most nationalists characterise the bidet as an example of foreign cultural imperialism that are beyond the pale for many.

"If it's not krauts (Germans) it's those frogs (Montelimarians). Wherever you turn, you see foreign products. If they aren't bombarding us with smoked cheese and snail-based 'cuisine', they're seeking to to clean our asses with jets of water. Where will it end?", exclaimed one street protestor in Christiansborg.

But counter-demonstators mocked the ultra-nationalists as "small-minded zealots who seek to roll back the clock the the days of insular days Hyggism (Days of Closedness)".

"What do they hope to achieve?!", shouted a counter-demonstator. "They're focused on useless diversions that mean nothing to most people. They are the worst sort and do not speak for most of us".

Crown Prince visits Arendaal

The Crown Prince in Arendaal
HKH The Crown Prince Sweyn has visited Arendaal in an official visit and likely final visit as a Crown Prince prior to his accession to the throne, the coronation being regarded by most as being the most significant national event for a generation.

The Crown Prince flew to the Arendaaler capital, Armyn Aren, for an official four-day visit meeting King Edvard V and the Arendaaler royal family at Karlheim Slot.

His Royal Highness attended a glittering State Banquet representing the King of the Great Danes and in a personal capacity.

Greeted warmly by the Arendaaler public, the Crown Prince is expected to conduct a tour of the Nordic kingdom but also indulge in one of his personal pastimes - skiing.

Speculation has gathered pace as His Royal Highness has reported to have stuck a friendship with HRH Princess Iselin of Arendaal, second in line to the Aren throne.

There had been much discussion of closeness between Princess Amalie of Schaumberg, in the Wieserreich, but discussion of this has significantly subsided in recent months.

Rumours persist that the Crown Prince has homosexual inclinations, a claim repeatedly denied by the Crown Prince's Secretariat at his official residence, the Yellow Palace.

Given the due accession of the Crown Prince to the Danish throne, there has been much speculation over whether he will adopt a regnal title.

"There has never been a King Sweyn - the name has roots dating back 1000 years, but there has never been a king holding that title", said royal historian Astrid Juhl.

"He could emulate the current king and become Hans Gustav IV, but there are clear indications from the Yellow Palace that he may choose to emulate one of his royal ancestors and maintain tradition. The Yellow Palace has refused to be drawn on this".

"His Majesty the Emperor, His Excellency the Chancellor and the Council of Ministers of the Reich commend the democratic process in our traditional friends and allies the Kingdom of the Danes. In this joyful democratic process, we are watching with great interest as to what developments will take place. The German and Danish peoples have coexisted peacefully for centuries, and in the past decades they have managed to build a most commendable and likeable relationship, the pinnacle of which was the formation of the Germanian League among the German and Danish states of the region.

"It is our sincere hope that after the conclusion of the election any new Danish government will show its neighbours, allies and partners the respect it has been shown, as well as respect the country's international commitments, reputation and signature. It is our belief, however, that the Danish people harbour no ill intent towards Germania and the world, and that our cooperation can continue to prosper and bring stability, wealth and security to all. The Reich is thusly looking forward to the Danish election and its results, and will continue providing its friend with support in whatever form might be required for as long as that will be possible and allowed."

His Majesty's Government will observe the election campaign in Danmark with due interest and respect. Being able to exercise one right to choose a democratic government ought to be a gift to be enjoyed by all peoples of the world. We are confident that any democratic government of Danmark will be aware of the rich shared history, the kingdoms' shared interests as well as the opportunities that lie ahead of our states.

Also we follow the Danish festivities of democracy, which elections actually are. There have been and there still are many warm relationships between the Germanics and the Danish. We are convinced that the Danish will understand that as well.

An Interview with
Asbj
ørn Schneider-Krogsgaard

by Solvej Gr
ønkjær

The sudden rise of the newly formed nationalist party, Hjemland, and of its leader have been meteoric and have taken the Danish political scene and the national elections by storm. There seems no stopping the nascent party which has thrown the political class into turmoil. The certainties of the past twelve years have been dramatically blown out of the water and the election has become the most divisive but energetic for over a generation. But the sudden prominence of the party has also proved a risk as the establishment asks probing and difficult questions which Hjemland has sometimes found difficult to bat off. But this has not diminished the steel and drive of Schneider-Krogsgaard. Even an attempted murder has failed to silence him. He is as bold and determined as ever. As he recuperates from a close brush with death Den Danske Tidende gained permission for an exclusive interview, at his home, days before the polls open and a potential paradigm shift in politics takes hold.

SG: "Thank you for taking the time to talk to Den Danske Tidende after what must have been a traumatic experience for you. Firstly, how is your recovery going?."

ASK: "The pleasure goes to you for taking the opportunity to interview me! Yes, the experience of having a bullet in ones shoulder is not one I would wish on anyone and having another whizz past your head is, quite literally, hair raising. But thanks to the great national health service we have and the dutiful and professional care that I have received, I am glad to report that I am indeed on the mend. To be frank, I am raring to go but the best doctors have advised me that it is best to rest up and allow nature to take its course in healing. I have reluctantly taken their advice. I must consider the long term rather than my short term impatience. But I must say that my heart is greatly warmed at the solidarity shown in the face of aggression and violence that some sought to use to bluster the election campaign. It failed and failed miserably - terrorism is limp in the face of the people. That is a lesson for all of those that seek to use violence to hijack our democracy- it does not work and the Great Danes have fundamentally showed their voice in quashing all hope of terrorism. That is a good sign and indicative of the health of democracy here in our great nation."

SG: "The polls indicate that your party, Hjemland, is on a roll and has the potential to become the largest party. And yet, the polls are also too close to call and there is a chance that you could be trumped by the Liberale Parti of the incumbent and widely respected Statsminister. Isn't Hjemland somewhat a flash in the pan?"

ASK: "[laughter] I've heard this accusation consistently that we're a 'here today, gone tomorrow' party, that we can't cut the mustard. It has become a favourite of the media and political establishment and demonstrates a clear bias against us. But what they inwardly cannot stomach is that support levels and the fact that we have filled a void that the established parties have clearly let down indicate that this is not that this is not the case. It is also often conveniently forgotten that there is considerable talent within our party, it being derived from the merger of three very old nationalist parties each with well organised machines and a loyal support base. Let not that not be forgotten. My party taps into regions that the established parties cannot hope to reach as they have forgotten the people and like to take a rather arrogant top-down approach to political discourse. We look the other way and take a bottom-up approach. This is something that has worried the establishment because they have been so blinkered, priggish and self-consumed by their own self-righteousness so they seek to deflect attention onto us to conceal their own mistakes. That says more about them. In essence we are a threat to them but that is indicative of their own insecurity and arrogance."

SG: "So if Hjemland were to become the major party and you could gain a coalition partner, after this Sunday's elections, what major changes can we expect?"

ASK: "We have made our position clear. Amongst things, but first and foremost, we shall immediately suspend our membership of the Germanian League. This is of supreme importance. For too long, my country has gone down the swanny of taking orders from outside or being leaned on despite what others may insist is contrary. We must govern and take decisions for Great Danes first and foremost, not directives from Elbebruck, Augsburg or elsewhere. I believe that most of our countrymen, our patriots, feel that too much leeway has been granted to the dictats of Germans - but not anymore, those days are over if the referendum results vote in favour. In that eventuality, it will be a new dawn for all involved. If that offends others so be - they will have to deal with it. The greatly ignored people will decide for themselves the future direction of their own nation. If we were to be able to govern in a coalition, as let us face facts is likely, we shall call the referendum within one week of the election result this Sunday of an election. If the people decide to choose continued membership we will accede to their request. If they choose the opposite, it will mean that our country shall completely withdraw from the League with immediate effect. That is up to the Great Danish people to decide for themselves in their wisdom.

You mention major changes. Well let me illuminate you and your readers of our position. Aside from the position regarding the League, a major component of our platform is to introduce vastly increased defence spending. Phase II of the current government is an admirable development and one that we support. But we would go much, much further with development and manufacture of weapons and systems
across all arms of the Crown Forces, alongside procurement from Breotonia and Kyiv, currently our largest foreign military procurement sources. We need to be able to defend ourselves thoroughly and meet our international commitments and an increase in spending and R&D is part and parcel of that. Furthermore, we would seek to introduce compulsory military service for all people aged 17 and beyond and the enhancement of a reservist force much greater than it has been before. We must construct an enhanced military force to defend a population of 97 million people. I am not sure the current arrangements are adequate. However, our plans are open for flexibility and development as needs occur. That is a wise arrangement.

On trade, we shall continue to construct, and honour, existing arrangements signed by the Hiller
ød government with far flung nations as Yujin, Potenza, Breotonia and the rest. We shall seek to enhance trade relations with Kyiv and also seek to develop them with Engellex, as well as other nations. Existing trade relations with League states will be honoured, as it benefits both sides, but we shall continue along the trajectory of developing trade outside of Germania. It is far wiser not to put all ones eggs in one basket.

Military arrangements and procurement deals with Breotonia and Kyiv will remain in force. Procurement from the League will also remain but only on a case by case basis and dependent on requirements and cost-effectiveness. Those caveats will a premium in consideration of procurement but that applies to any source."

SG: "Isn't a withdrawal from the League likely to cause friction, ill-will and problems?"

ASK: "Only for those that deny the Great Danish people their rights and put their own aggrandisement and self interests upon a pedestal. If the people decide to part company, that is their right and we shall act upon that. But it is not an opportunity for the priggish to become haughty, but if the reaction is to be that way, it shall be dealt with. It is the will of the people, if they so chose, not the right of outsiders. But even so, in realpolitik, a cession would not mean complete abandonment of relations. We would still seek to work with German nations but only if it matches our own interests. But one key area that we would not cooperate on in anyway would be military cooperation or the use of the Kingdom as a conduit for the passage of forces. That is off the cards. The Kingdom will not be stooge for others' battles or be used to assist them. Otherwise, there will be no ill will from Danmark. We will not be the cause of friction but if unnecessary barriers are raised to cooperation we would necessarily be required to exact similar measures. That is clear to me."

SG: "Doesn't Danmark lose a lot out of this by withdrawal?"

ASK: "Potentially, but to the credit of the current government, far less so than if they hadn't proceeded along the path they did of significant diversification. But as far as I can see, it works both ways - there is a degree of mutual linking both ways. There are mutual arrangements but in future they will be based comprehensively upon our interests and renegotiated accordingly if necessary. But a withdrawal is not black and white, it involves shades of grey. However, we shall take all decisions on a case by case basis and deal with all states individually. If the people decide to vote with their feet, my government will deal on a one-to-one basis and not in a bloc fashion".

SG: "What are your perspectives on foreign policy? Has the government struck the right balance or do you see room for improvement?"

ASK: "I firstly must say I am a great admirer of Henrik Westerveld. He has done the country proud and has fought our corner most honourably. Even though he is a Liberal! I sense he is as nationalist as the rest of us, though nationalism comes in many shades, I readily admit. I would be proud to invite him to continue in a future government but that is a decision for him.

As for the general policy, there are elements where it is right and where it is not. Danmark has a traditional multilateral consensus approach which is a thoroughly decent and effective approach. But, there are areas where it has proven weaker than expected. Our approach will be much more clear and less of the frequent 'sitting on the fence' variety. We must speak much louder and with crystal clarity, and a Hjemland coalition will ensure it does so. Hr. Westerveld has already illicited his view on this and it is one we concur with. He is a thoroughly wise international statesman and representative of our nation. No flies are on him!"

SG: "Earlier, you touched on Kyiv. What do you see for the future of Dano-Kyivan relations?"

ASK: "Hr.
Hillerød did a wise thing in going beyond the usual confines and breaking consensus which is an unusual but, in this case, admirable move. The relations with Kyiv are good and we have to thank the current Statsminister for that. It will go down to his credit when historians look back over his great term in office. My desire is to seek to enhance them even further and go beyond what the Statsminister agreed to on military procurement and the exchange of military attaches. I believe it is in our interests to draw much more closely to the People's Republic if it serves our interests. However, I feel there are grounds of mutual cooperation that both our countries can work on. I look forward to greater friendship and a working-relationship and a Hjemland government shall place a priority on building deeper relations with the People's Republic."

SG: "Yet we discuss all this and it is far from clear that your party could ever manage to construct a coalition under your leadership. I return to the original premise - isn't it all flash in the pan?"

ASK: "Admittedly, it is far more difficult to construct a coalition as a nationalist party due to the inbuilt bias in our body politic against our sort of party, but it is far from impossible. We have successfully pitched on the ground of not only the Agrariparti, previously the third party, but also made inroads into the constituency of the Social Democrats. Our vision of helping the less fortunate and the 'forgotten people' has resonated and has caused people that may never have considered voting for a nationalist party before to consider us. Meanwhile, the Social Democrats are lacking in vision. Our aim to help the less fortunate, rural communities and find ways of alleviating unemployment through industry, projects, lowering the tax burden on the working class, and providing them with opportunities to broaden their horizons and potential through education, apprenticeships and military service has given new hope. It has turned a hitherto marginal force into a major platform for real, effectual, and operable change. For the first time, people feel confident in the ability of a nationalist party to govern for all Danes not just for some of them. I don't see that this will in any way preclude us from gaining coalition partners as there is common ground with many of them though, ultimately, I would much prefer a nationalist plurality, but that is a big task."

SG: "You've never held national office before. Some say you are inexperienced. How would you cope being a Statsminister if it came to pass?"

ASK: "As much as any other man who has acceded to the venerable office. No doubt it will come with its issues, trials and tribulations, but that is the learning curve. So in life, so in national politics. The rise of my party and the pressures of grappling with public dissection, ridicule, party machines against me and wholesale slander by some sections of the media are enough to make any man either fight or flee. I am a fighter, unluckily for some. I upset apple carts and tell it as it is. Some do not like that - tough for them. I will not be daunted by the burdens of responsibility of governing on behalf of His Danic Majesty. I shall not shrink."

Hjemland in historic poll victory
  • Victory larger than polls predicted
  • "The people spoke" - Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard
  • Four-party coalition of "all the talents" including German Sachsen Partei accepted by His Danic Majesty
  • Liberal Henrik Westerveld breaks ranks to serve in new government as Foreign Minister
Magda Steinn, Chief Political Correspondent
Christiansborg

Nationalist-populist Hjemland have scored a major historical victory emerging as the largest party as the votes were tallied with 35% of the count with Hr. Asbj
ørn Schneider-Krogsgaard assured of becoming the sixty-fourth Statsminister of the Kingdom of the Great Danes, as he announced a new coalition involving smaller parties and elbowing out the Liberals and Social Democrats.

The poll victory outstripped previous predictions as Hjemland beat their closest rivals, the Liberale Parti, by eight percentage points and upsetting the consensus of the establishment parties who have been left stunned by the margin with huge soul-searching and rancour among the two previously largest parties, the Liberals and Social Democrats.

The count of ballots which went on through the night following the Sunday vote saw the parties as follows:

Hjemland - 35.3%
Liberale Parti-27.1%
Socialedemocraterne - 20.3%
Agrariparti - 8.3%
Gronen - 7.5%
Others - 1.5%

Turnout was 84%, higher than the usual average national turnout of around 75%.

Whilst Hjemland fell short of the required 51% of the poll to govern outright as a single party, announcement of successful talks with the Agrarian Party (the junior coalition party in the previous Liberal-Agrarian Coalition government), the resurgent Green Party and, in a surprise, the German Sachsen Partei mean that Hjemland can govern with slightly over the 51% required, with a new four-party coalition government already arranged.

The inclusion of the German party is an attempt to dispel rumours that the nationalists are 'Little Daners' by working towards internal inclusiveness across all sections of society, a clear preference for the motto "We're all Great Danes together united in diversity".

Upon the announced arrangement, the new Statsminister attended an audience with the King to formally receive the mandate to govern.

Hr. Asbj
ørn Schneider-Krogsgaard hailed the election victory as "Great Danes speaking with their hearts and voices free from the stifling oppression of the status quo. This is a new era for our country. We shall govern with pride and dignity and work hard for this great and ancient nation of ours. Gud Beware Kongen! Gud Beware Danmark ! (God Save the King! God Save Danmark!)".

The parties had been engaged in intensive closed-door talks for the past week, Den Danske Tidende can reveal, as Hjemland was unsure if it would secure enough Folkehuset seats to govern with opinion polls in the run-up to the vote still too close to call.

It is known that Hjemland had entered into talks with the Social Democrat leader Johannes Christoffersen but ended after two days.

The coalition parties have already secured several ministries in the deal, with the Greens taking the Office for the Environment, and the Sachsen Partei taking the Office for Social Regeneration and Regional Development.

The second largest party in the coalition as in the previous government, the Agrarians, may take the Vice Statsministership, but no details have yet been announced and the rest of the composition of the cabinet has not been revealed.

But in a surprise announcement, the Foreign Minister of the last government and Liberal Party member, Hr. Henrik Westerveld, issued a statement that he has agreed to serve in the new coalition arrangement, on condition he was returned to the position of Foreign Minister.

Although it was no secret that Hjemland had been actively courting Hr. Westerveld, a moderate and multilateralist, with several hints of widespread admiration of him, the news has caused consternation among Liberal ranks with some members calling for his expulsion from the party.

Hr. Asbjørn Schneider-Krogsgaard promises a new course for the Kingdom of the Great Danes on a variety of levels
The clear margin that the nationalists scored over the hegemonic Liberals and the establishment has caused big questions and a feeling of shock which has reverberated around the establishment and with polling organisations, the common refrain often being: "How did this happen? How did we get this wrong?"

One polling organisation,
Danske Meningsmåling, headed by Henk Lampaard:

"The big parties had large reserves of money to draw from and which in most other elections would have generally secured their position. There was a lot of commentary that Hjemland would be snuffed out by the huge election machines that are the two big parties, but they failed to reckon on the deep public draw that the nationalists created with the wider public. It promised them something new and it was deeply attractive. Clearly money is not the be all and end all in democracy but some believed it was a guarantor of success. This election turns that upside down not only for them, but for polling organisations which had consistently put the margin much closer. It could well be an inbuilt bias within polling groups, that the public was not fully open about telling pollsters their real thoughts and voting intentions, or that as election day came, the choice was galvanised in their minds".

League membership suspended, referendum called
Magda Steinn & Arne Bentzen
Christiansborg

Statsminister Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard has suspended Danish membership of the Germanian League with immediate effect and has announced a referendum to be held next Sunday to determine whether the Kingdom will remain in the organisation or formally withdraw.

The Statsminister signed the executive order requiring suspension of the previous Folkehuset legislation pending the vote meaning that Danmark will be in a period of haitus, uncommitted and unrequired to abide by any existing commitments until as the Statsminister says "the people have made their choice".

The signing of the executive order, a copy of which was handed to the Germanian League Secretariat by the Danish representative in Elbebruck, and the announcement of the referendum are unprecedented and likely to have a significant impact on the Kingdom's relations with German states though Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard reiterated his position that whatever the outcome of the vote the Danes would still have relations with German states and enter into arrangements as and when appropriate on a mutually-agreeable basis.

Hjemland, as expected, will campaign for withdrawal alongside the regional Slesvig Union, the hard-left Ny Venstre, trade unions, and some of the Green Party, the latter split on the vote.

The opposition parties have pledged to vote against Danish withdrawal citing that it would be a bad outcome for the country to sever ties to the League.

The Liberal Party has said that it hopes all its party members to vote against withdrawal, but the Social Democrats have advocated that all members should vote according to their conscience but will urge for continued membership.

The Agrarian Party, who have seen themselves in the new coalition, have stated that they will follow a line similar to the Social Democrats which has drawn criticism especially as they had previously supported the Danish accession to the League, leading to accusations of political opportunism.

Massive fallout as Hr. Hillerød resigns

Here tendering his resignation, the defeat of the now former Statsminister has ricocheted around the establishment parties

The Liberal Party and the wider political establishment have been rocked, stunned and left floundering as the former Statsminister Jens Peder Hillerød tendered his resignation to His Majesty the King at Karlskrona Slot ending seven years of Liberal ascendancy as news of the success of a Hjemland coalition agreement was announced.

Hr. Hiller
ød visited the King following the earlier visit of Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard, to conduct his last official high-state duty - the submission of his Seal of Office and a resignation letter for himself and his government.

Karlskrona Slot became the centre of a heave of activity as crowds gathered outside the official royal residence to watch the coming and going of streams of black limousines and special forces vehicles hoping to catch a glimpse of the incoming and outgoing Statsministers and be there for an historical moment in Danish political history.

But, in a populist measure, the Statsminister arrived at the palace in an ordinary car, ironically made in German Eiffelland.

The collapse of the previous government has caused deep soul searching among the major parties and many struggled to hold back tears at the demise of the much-heralded 'strongman' of Danish politics with much talk that his 40 years of high government were over.

Many Liberals and Social Democrats have called for a post-election analysis with some calling for party reorganisation, greater grass-roots politics and changes in leadership.

The Social Democrat leader has faced fierce calls to resign, despite only being at the head of the party for 6 months, but has dismissed the calls saying that an early resignation would be "premature".

But now 'private citizen' Hillerød later spoke to Liberal supporters at a post-election rally with many seeking to drown their sorrows and with a overwhelming gloom, pledging to continue as the leader of the main opposition party.

"We must accept the verdict of the electorate. They have made their choice so we must respect that. I have spoken to the new Statsminister and sent him my congratulations and support as he leads the country. But I shall continue to lead this great party of ours from the opposition. We have still much to say and I shall be part of making sure we get our voice heard. I will work with the new government in a constructive fashion where necessary and act as an appropriate opposition where it is required."

To warm applause and cheers, he held up his trademark - a cigarette - and lit it and blew up a puff of smoke.
New government to send 32,000 personnel to Altai
Per Claus & Bendt Lars Paersgaard
Christiansborg & Altaisk, Altai

In its first major wider foreign policy announcement, the new Hjemland-dominated coalition government has said that it will commit to the deployment of 32,000 Crown Forces personnel from across the navy, airforce, army, marines, special forces ('shock forces') and intelligence units with immediate effect to the Principality of Altai.

The announcement was made by the Danish government as an extension of the existing stationing of forces in the Altaic port of Altai but goes much further than the previous administration agreed with the Principality which concentrated solely on naval forces.

The new government stated that defence of Altai was an important foreign policy objective and the first priority in the bringing of peace and stability to Himyar.

The new Forvarsminister, Hrok Enevoldsen, stated that the new government was committed to the defence of the Principality and that the deployment of 32,000 personnel was appropriate in respect of the instability of the region.

"Northern Himyar has been an historically volatile place and this is of great concern to us as it threatens the stability of the greater world. As such, the deployment of the Crown Forces in such a number is completely appropriate and measurable to the level of instability that exists there. The Crown Forces will help secure peace and equilibrium in a all-encompassing framework together with partners".

Forvarsminister Enevoldsen announced that around three aircraft carriers would be deployed with immediate effect to the major ports of Altai alongside 70 naval vessels, ground troops, heavy weaponry, Shaw-Fujikawa missiles - brought by military air carriers - Shock Forces, and major air force deployments.

It is expected that the Crown Forces will station at strategic locations throughout the Principality including ports, airfields, major cities, and other important sites.

The Danish and Altaic forces are to conduct a series of 'familiarisation exercises' in forthcoming weeks so that the two sides can converge techniques and procedures, with the Danish military also undertaking desert training in the far south of the country.
Kyivan forces to be invited to the Kingdom
Per Claus
Christiansborg

In a statement by the new government, the Statsminister has announced that it has formally invited a contingent of forces from the People's Republic of Kyiv to visit the Kingdom as part of a national security initiative.

The government has outlined an agreement that will see the temporary stationing of forces from Kyiv on Danish soil amounting to a corps of 25,000 personnel with supporting aircraft, air defences, and special forces reaching a total of 40,000. These are due to arrive over the next few weeks and are expected to liaise with the Home Forces.

Forvarsminister Hr. Enevoldsen claimed the agreement was crucial to assist in the national defence and security sphere.

"We are able to defend the Kingdom adequately, but temporary suspension from the League requires an extra dimension and implementation of alternatives".

Questioned on the tenure of the stay of the Kyivan forces, the Defence minister went on to say:

"The stationing will be temporary but there is no clear time-frame on that and will be under constant review, responsive to real-time requirements and circumstances".

Sort Svaler (Black Swallow) Stalk jet bomber aircraft will be deployed over the region of Corsica and the Holy See

In a further extension of its military agenda, the new government has stated that Crown Forces, specially the Kongelige Danske Marine and the airforce will significantly increase its presence in the Kattegat (separating it from Lorraine), and the region around the Kingdom of Corsica and the Holy See as part of a strategic proactive defence and monitoring program.

The response comes as an addition to the previous government's policy of increasing security in the Long Sea region following maritime trading concerns.

The increase in forces in the region has also been enacted due to the volatility of the situation unfolding in the Kingdom of Corsica and potential threats to the integrity of the Holy See, which the new government has dedicated itself to supporting.

There are wider fears are that an instability in Corsica and the wider regions near to southern Germania have a direct impact upon national and regional security. It has become a major objective of the government to use military and political tools to ensure stability in the area and is an extension of the 'Chain of Steel' initiative unveiled by the former government which the nationalists have pledged to maintain.

Prime Minister Merlino would like to send his most sincere congratulations to Schneider-Krogsgaard and his party on the election victory. The Grand Duchy hopes that our own nation and the Kingdom will be able to continue with the economic and diplomatic relations which we have enjoyed in the past.

SUSPENSION OF PREFERENTIAL TRADE WITH THE KINGDOM OF DANMARK

As per the unilateral decision of the Kingdom of Danmark, that very same Kingdom has placed herself in breach of Germanian League provisions and in overt violation of League law. The Free State of Wendmark regrets this decision and calls upon the Government of the Kingdom of Danmark to reconsider this decision and return the Kingdom to respecting the duties and obligations the Kingdom took upon itself in full accordance with Danmark's constitutional and legal process. Until such a time as the Danish people have in a referendum decided to withdraw from the League, League law must be upheld. Should the referendum hail a withdrawal from the League, then an orderly withdrawal process must be completed.

The hectic, unilateral and abusive decision of the new government of Danmark is unworthy of civilised states and casts an eternal taint upon Danmark and her ability to uphold her own agreements. Those who might seek to pactise with the Danes in the future better remember this day and brace themselves for similar moves from the Danes in the future.

In responce to the unilateral suspension of preferential trade between the Free State of Wendmark and the Kingdom of Danmark upon covert and dishonest initiative of the latter, the Free State of Wendmark is hereby forced to suspend all preferential trade and other agreements in force between the Free State of Wendmark and the Kingdom of Danmark.

We cannot stand for this deployment of Danish troops in Altai. This move is clearly intended against the Talemantine Empire and this slight will be remembered in further dealings with the Kingdom of Danmark. As of now our embassy will be downgraded to a legation for the foreseeable future.

"With great regret and sorrow we see the long efforts to build up a peaceful, prospering community among all Germanians irrespective of nationality or faith to have dramatically failed. The Danish People, who have chosen the path of hyper-nationalism and xenophobia, have also chosen to alienate themselves and not uphold their international commitments and signed treaties, but instead promote general hostility.

"In response to the Danish suspension of their Germanian League membership the Reich hereby recognises this unilateral move as fully legal and shall automatically and indefinitely suspend its own practice of the Germanian League law in the case of Danmark, as the Danish government has requested. Free trade and movement of goods will be hereby suspended, however relations will nevertheless not be discouraged. In addition, Danish representatives relating to the League will be expelled from the Reich in light of the suspension of membership.

"In response to the violent and irresponsible foreign policy of the Kingdom of the Danes and their continued foreign military deployments in Germania, Himyar and elsewhere, we must express our sorrow and sore disappointment that things have ended up as a contest about the length of Danmark's gunpowder-laden penis. It is most regretful that our country can no longer trust yours for maintaining peace and security in the borders."

While His Majesty's Government respects the outcome of a democratic election, we are forced to reciprocate the suspension of Danmark's Germanic League membership. Until a definite decision on its GL membership by the Kingdom of Danmark there will be no more preferential treatment of Danish companies or citizens. They will be treated as respectfully as any citizen or entity from a friendly neutral third-party state. Apart from this regrettable issue the Kingdom of Franken will continue to eagerly cooperate and engage with Danmark.

PUBLIC

On behalf of the Kyivan Peoples Republic I congratulate Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard and the entirety of the Hjemland Party for their unprecedented victory. The results of this election have demonstrated once again that there is an irresistible consonance between the aspirations of the civilized nations of Europa and those of the Kyivan Peoples Republic. Going forward from this momentous day Kyiv shall march side-by-side with our newfound comrades to build order and prosperity in Germania and Europa as a whole.

The State Defense Council has authorized the commencement of Operation Talis. Based on the newest assessments of the Main Intelligence Directorate we have nominated to accelerate the completion of Phase Isisny by temporarily diverting assets from Phase Apple of Operation Thaumantic. To achieve the objectives of Phase Isisny in consonance with the revised timetable we will require the continued extraordinary cooperation of the Danish Government and Danish Military to pre-empt any and all potential obstacles.

Regrettably to maintain consonance with the new timetables we have been forced to abbreviate the linguistic and cultural training of commissioned officers. All available personnel fluent in Danish have been assigned to the expeditionary units but overall linguistic capabilities of KPA units in Danmark are not projected to meet the former objectives by the completion of Phase Isisny.

Heinrich Maximilian Graf von und zu Babelfisch,
Reichsministerium des Ausw
ärtigen,

Kaisertum Wieserreich

His Danic Majesty's Government is shocked and appalled at the unbecoming and ungracious language issued by the yourself, the Foreign Minister of the Wieserreich, and registered in your name, which is unsuitable for the conduct of high state affairs between two sovereign states.

To characterise the foreign policies of His Majesty's Danic Government as being about the "length of Danmark's gun-laden penis" is obtuse and highly uncivilised. Furthermore, the connations directed at the people of the Kingdom in exercising their legitimate democratic rights are insufferable. Such language is not expected of the representative of a sovereign state in their dealings with us and is a reflection of coarseness of manners that is intolerable. We are of the belief that you, Graf von and zu Babelfisch, should reconsider your position as the Foreign Minister of the Wieserreich as if this is an indication of the uncivilised levels that the Foreign Ministry has descended to, it makes future relations strained, regardless of the future course of events. We therefore lodge our official protest.

In response to this and following the announcement by the Foreign Ministry of Weissereich of the expellation of Danish League representatives to the Wieserreich, His Majesty's Danic Government regrettably must follow a similar course. We will forthwith expel the Imperial Ambassador of the Wieserreich to the Court of St Ansgard and reduce our presence in Augsburg by recalling the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Great Danes to the Wieserreich to Christiansborg for the forseeable future.

Further to the remarks of the suspension of the membership of the Kingdom from all agreements and structures of the Germanian League, we take the opportunity to remind you that the law of the Kingdom is paramount and shall remain so. It is our sovereign right to undertake and rescind agreements as necessary and the Kingdom is not beholden to League structures. The signing of an executive order yesterday is commensurate with the rights of the Statsminister enshrined in our sovereign legal framework which declares that the adoption of membership to the League by the previous administration was contrary to the sovereign rights of the people who are, under Danish Law, where ultimate sovereignty resides.

However, we have to state that the case of Danish membership of the Germanian League is a special and immense case as it has and has had significant implications. The government of the Kingdom has, as is widely known, enacted a popular referendum the results of which shall be announced following the count. It is the belief of His Danic Majesty's Government that the sovereign right of the people have a full bearing upon the future of the membership of the Kingdom to the League.

"His Majesty's Council of Ministers expresses the Reichs and the Kaiser's regret that the Kingdom of Danmark has chosen the path of such an unfortunate escalation of circumstances and a closure of diplomatic channels. However, in full accordance to the respect earned by the Danish nation and state from Wieserreich, His Excellency the Imperial Chancellor Rudolf Prince Schwarzenberg informs that the desire of the Danish government shall be respected at its full extent.

"Effective immediately, as per the wishes of His Danish Majesty's Government, His Imperial Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary & Minister Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Danmark Hermann Jäger von Waldau shall be withdrawn with most expediency. The Legation in Danmark shall, however, continue to otherwise function to provide Imperial subjects with its necessary services, unless otherwise obstructed by the Danish official authorities. Its mission status shall unfortunately have to remain without upgrade as previously intended, at least until Chancellor Schwarzenberg can complete consultations with the Envoy.

"Concerning the up-and-coming referendum on the status of the presently suspended Danish membership to the Germanian League, I would like to reiterate my government's stance that we look forward and shall respect the results of the referendum. However, with Danish membership presently suspended by your Rt. Hon. Government, in line with His Imperial Majesty's sovereign rights and the Reich's official policy of reciprocal equality and non-intervention in the domestic affairs of other countries as underlined by several bills of the Imperial Council and the Imperial Diet, the Council of Ministers is left with no choice but salute and respect the decisions of the Danish government and return them in full reciprocal equality.

"It is our honest hope that this present crisis, stemming from the misunderstandings of the Danish government with the Reich and the League, can be resolved at the soonest possible and with the least possible further collateral. Irrespective of the actions and possibly xenophobic intent of the Kingdom the Kaiser, the Lands and the People of the Reich shall forever continue to believe in the sovereignty, historical friendship and full equality between the people of the Kingdom of Danmark and those of the Kaisertum.

"Due to the unfortunate circumstances arising by the Danish choice to suspend direct diplomatic relations, until the possible resumption or cancellation of Danish membership in the Germanian League the Reich shall be open to maintaining diplomatic contact through the Germanian League institutions in Wendmark, and afterwards through mutually trusted third parties which may be determined either individually or collectively by the Governments of the Kingdom of Danmark and the Wieserreich.

"I and the Imperial Council of Ministers look forward to a proper resumption of direct diplomatic relations, however."

I also want to make clear that Danmark has profited enormously from the GL, both as an economic vehicle and as a platform for stability. But now suddenly Danmark, a country where human rights have been very important up to now, wants to cooperate with a country where human rights are nonexistent. Danmark's membership of the GL has never been a threat to Danmark's culture or the freedom of its citizens. Danmark's courtship with Kyiv, however, will on the longer term lead to a loss of freedom. It would be very unwise if the Danish government, or the Danish people, would continue the course recently chosen.

  • 54% favour pulling Kingdom out
  • "End of an era" - Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard
Magda Steinn, Chief Political Correspondent
Christiansborg

Official results from the Germanian League Referendum count indicate that the Kingdom will withdraw from the Germanian League with immediate effect as the 'Yes' camp have secured a majority of votes closing the door on an era.

The results indicate that those in favour - especially Hjemland but also the Agrarians, some business leaders, trade unions, and communists - have seen off a stiff challenge from opponents - particularly the Liberals, Social Democrats, and other business leaders, the latter split over continued membership.

The 54%-46% margin was hailed as " a victory of democratic will over the ignominity of the political establishment" by Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard.

"We have reclaimed our country and can now take all required, often tough, decisions for ourselves in a free manner. This is a good day for all countrymen and will go down in history".

The referendum result will have a significant impact but also freedom of manoeuvre upon the direction and dealings of the country as it is no longer officially aligned, but the Statsminister urged his erstwhile colleagues in the League to respect the finality of the vote.

"Danes have chosen their way and this must be respected. I don't expect to see it and I trust not to, but there can not and must not be peevishness at the choice of the electorate. The die is cast".

Immediately upon the result, the government stated that it would be withdrawing it's naval fleet and airforce contingents in Eiffelland, part of the Long Sea security initiative, and relocating them to Port de General Pierre d'Lumette on Frescanian island of Franmandie, and to airforce bases used by the Republican Airforce, on a temporary basis pending final approval by the Frescanian parliament. In return, the Republican Army of Frescania will be permitted use of Danish naval ports and utilisation of airfields.

The referendum is also likely to see renegotiated terms with the GL, now a totally German entity, on aspects of trade and wider economic cooperation, but the government has already stated that cooperation with the League either bilaterally with individual states or with the bloc en masse would not be ruled out but that dealings would be treated equally alongside other non-Germanic competitor nations to "get the best deal", in the words of the new Trade and Industry minister, Mikkel Stott.

"Withdrawal, whilst causing some immediate implications, does not preclude mutually favourable deals. I believe we can secure those unless there are quarters not as disposed to Danes after the referendum."

Though Stott stated that the government would be "intensifying diversification", the term coined as the previous government embarked on a series of economic deals with countries right around Europe which the current government accedes was one of its most successful policies it will retain, with talk of the development of an economic bloc with other nations.

Minister Stott also announced that there would be an immediate moratorium on military procurement from the League, though this is less a concern to the government as the Danes had already made significant open-ended military procurement agreements with Kyiv and Breotonia.

But one area that the government is not likely to budge on in the immediate future is allowing League nations to move military equipment over Danish territory, the Statminister saying during the election that the "Kingdom would not be used, abused and soiled" by transit of GL forces between the northern and southern parts of the League.

League nations are expected to pay standard customs duties as all non-League states with a final decision upon tariffs expected in the next few weeks, with these to be negotiated on a one by one basis or en bloc as circumstances develop.

However, the Foreign Office has not indicated that it intends to re-establish its embassy in Augsburg and restore the full status of the Wiessereich embassy to the Court of St Ansgard following a diplomatic row over what were described as "kneejerk, slanderous, obstuse and insulting" initial comments against Danish foreign policy, the Danish people, and the electoral process from the Foreign Minister of the Wieserreich, Count von and zu Babelfisch after suspension of League membership and the announcement of the referendum.

Foreign Minister Westerveld: "We will revisit this issue at a later date but are committed to a down-graded status for the current period. People are saddened at the 'Babelfisch Rant' and the status of the Wiessereich in Danmark has been harmed, in comparison to the respect shown to the democratic process by my counterparts in Franken and Eiffelland. It is clear that there are moderates and those less so that inhabit the body politik of the collectivist approach of the League".

The current impasse is likely to see the government deal directly with Franken and Eiffelland in GL dealings, as much as possible, at least until the current dispute is resolved between Christiansborg and Augsburg.

Statsminister honours Crown Forces, Home Defence Forces' readiness to be heightened
Arne Bentzen
Christiansborg

Statsminister Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard has paid homage to the Danish military as "defenders of the Great Danish nation and harbingers of equilibrium", and announced that the Home Defence Forces would be mobilised in significant defense and attack measures in a major speech to members of all branches of the forces.

Statsminister Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard addressed 4,500 Crown Forces personnel following the large-scale military parade by the navy, army, airforce, marines and special forces through the centre of the capital to commemorate Liberation Day, this the 352nd anniversary of the regaining of independence from the Holy Germanic Empire, and a national holiday in the Kingdom.

"The exalted Crown Forces have a special place in all our hearts. Whether through the battles and wars of our emergence thirteen-hundred years ago, to the smiting of the Holy Germanic Empire, defending our unwavering separateness and distinct identity, or helping to bring stability to forelorn quarters of the globe, the brave men and women who give active service, their lives to this, our country and its desideratum, have a great deal to be proud about and this will never be forgotten. I salute you all for courage, strength and indefatigability".

Also in his speech, the Statsminister announced that the Home Defence Forces would be placed in a state of heightened preparedness following the withdrawal of the country from the Germanian League citing the "necessity of looking after our own backyard", no longer as reliant upon the multinational defensive alliance.

Regular, specialist, and reserve Crown Forces personnel will engage in a range of exercises around the country and be despatched to various locations, along with increased presence at the national borders, increased military practice manoeuvres involving all arms of the forces and a militarisation of the Rhineland as well as along coastal regions.

He also pledged an increase in government defence expenditure, acceleration of weapons and armaments production and facilities, and international procurement, though details of this have to be discussed by the coalition cabinet.

The manoeurvres of the Crown Forces in Altai are not expected to be effected but preparations have increased in recent days following a huge explosion attributed to a lone Zamosk terrorist and fears of destabilisation. The Kingdom, responsible for the greater stability and protection of the Principality, has so far not issued a statement on the event, but is expected to do so after consultations and liaison with Altaic authorities.

Foreign Minister Henrik Westerveld unveiled the Danish Himyar Fund following the formation of the HPP
The government has welcomed the announcement of the formation of the Himyar Partnership for Peace and an invitation to the Kingdom as an observer state by pledging a £4bn Breotish sterling Danish Himyar (Investment and Development) Fund for HPP states.

Unveiled in the Frescanian capital of Fortaleza Real and signed between three Himyar states - Altai, Frescania and Jurzan - HPP was heralded as an attempt to bring "stability and peace" to the troubled northern Himyar region.

Foreign Minister Westerveld congratulated the parties for their "groundbreaking, foresighted and determined initiatives for fully grounded peace and non-belligerency", and paid homage to the non-partisan nature of the HPP with especial respect to the invitations sent to Talemantros as a full member and the admission of Observer States.

"We are heartened to see genuine overtures by including a multitude of hitherto mutually-combatant countries. We hope these constructive approaches will be seen for what they are and welcomed by formal application measures by all invited nations".

After the HPP was announced the Foreign Office, following discussions with the Danish Treasury and the International Development Ministry, outlined a multi-billon krone investment and development fund for the HPP.

It is expected that applications to seek finance from the fund will come from the poorer members, but it is intended to be open for all members of the Partnership on a basis of greatest need.

The Fund will prove useful in a broad range of areas especially for establishing industrial and manufacturing bases, upgraded transport networks, water supplies, irrigation, health provision, housing, and education.

Foreign Minister Westerveld said that the Fund demonstrated the Kingdom's aim to assist the region to bring it up to high standards and "kick into the long grass" the one-dimensional preoccupation with conflict to settle disputes.

Military exports to be liberalised
Per Claus
Christiansborg

In a series of measures aimed at loosening restrictions, the government is to liberalise military export permits as the Kingdom seeks to increase arms export revenue in a move expected to generate billions of krone to the treasury.

Strict government licensing of military exports is currently in force, even though the previous Liberal-Agrarian government had made significant liberalisation of export permits a priority, but the current government's announcement is a major development in the Kingdom's relation towards arms exports.

Current legislation requires each export to be vetted by the Danish Ministry of Defence in a tightly controlled export procedure. In a major departure and scale-back of state intervention, the current government has pledged that it will allow private military manufacturers and export concerns, after they have acquired their own corporate licences, to export military hardware to foreign markets based upon demand.

The new industry minister Bram Fokkelsten stated that there would still be restrictions upon what he called "irresponsible exports" but that it would be largely left to market forces to determine where Danish military manufacturers exported.

Fokkelsten: "If private manufacturers are capable of demonstrating their merits in order to acquire government licenses and proving their worth and capabilities, we shall leave it to private sector concerns to best determine where it sells arms to".

The Crown Prince, seen here visiting the Holy See, is a quintessential 'Renaissance Man' who is a patron of philosophical and intellectual enquiry and exploration
HKH The Crown Prince is to conduct a wide-ranging private international tour of Europe's religious sites and establishments in an endeavour to be, as he said "to be acquainted and with the marvels of the religious experience in all its multitudinous complexity".
Dubbed the 'Journey of Faith', The Crown Prince began his whistle-stop tour at the Holy See and is to visit various countries and meet with religious leaders including Talemantros renowned for Christian Orthodoxy where he will meet HH Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Talemaniki, the Jurzan and Hajr to visit holy Islamic sites and mosques, Altai to experience paganistic Diagism (close to the Danish pagan Wodenism), Fryslân for it's Calvinistic tradition, Lutheran Franken, and the eastern mystique of Yujin and Touzen.

There is no official state church in the Kingdom, freedom of religion being a major tenet, though many members of the royal family are Danish Protestant - a legacy of the troubled relationship the Danes traditionally had to Holy Germanian Catholicism which have only thawed in recent years.

Though the Crown Prince is known to have actively explored many religious traditions, he is not officially aligned with any, despite hints that he finds sympathy with Eastern Taoism and Buddhism.

Mindful of the Crown Prince's multifarious interests and affliations to various religions, the government is seeking to rush emergency legislation through the Folkehuset (Danish parliament) enabling him to be styled as 'Defender of the Faiths' upon his coronation.

Constantine and Sebastian in royal marriages
Lars Kristian, Chief Royal Correspondent
Christiansborg

HKH Prince Constantine and HKH Prince Sebastian are due to wed in the next few weeks, according to a Court Circular from the royal palace of Karlskrona Slot.

They will join with their elder brother HKH Prince Lauritz in being wedded, leaving HKH Prince Christian, HKH Prince Jørgen and, lastly, HKH The Crown Prince as bachelors.

HKH Prince Constantine, third in line to the Throne of the Great Danes and the only practicing Catholic of King Hans Gustav III, and a staunch conservative and military man who recently agreed to become patron to the Danish Brotherhood of Neo-Reactionists, is to wed Duchess Petra von Faber-Castell, the youngest daughter of the current head of the Faber-Castell royal house, the only Catholic house of the six main royal houses of Franken, following a two year engagement. Upon marriage, Duchess Petra will assume the royal title Princess Petra of Danmark, Duchess of Pommerania and of Slesvig, Lady of the Kattegat and be bestowed with the Order of the Elephant. The only other person in Franken to have acquired that honour his HM The King of Franken.

Meanwhile, HKH Prince Sebastian, fifth in line, is due to marry Princess Catherine Rion, third in line to the Corsican throne and sister of the Holy King Jean-Pierre VII after a courtship lasting around eight months. The marriage has caused more of a sensation in Corsica, due to Prince Sebastian's affiliation to the Danish Protestant Church, than it has among the Great Danes who place less purchase upon religion in marriage, though the royal marriage has helped ease tensions between the Kingdom and Corsica over the latter's internal issues and is expected to help assist reconciliation and dampen religious flames between Corsica's Catholics and Protestants. It is expected that the wife of Prince Sebastian will assume the Danicised title Princess Katherin, Duchess of Skagen.

The Statsminister congratulated the Kongeligeprinsren upon the news.

"This is a momentous day for the royal family and for all the Great Danes. We send our best wishes to Prince Constantine and Duchess Petra and Prince Sebastian and Princess Katherin. This year will go down in history as a huge event for the our great, ancient and illustrious monarchy with the Coronation still yet to come - a truly hallowed, slendiferous and majestic event and spectacle sure to catch the eye of the world".
