Greetings,

We could not help but notice that Belmont and the newly-active Drakun government have publicly announced the prospective chance of working together. The Drakunian press has even hinted at the possibility of the so-called 'Sceptor' (who, by the way, is clearly a dangerous, foolish and over-confident fellow) sending aid to Belmont regarding the South Gallia Conflict.

While not pretending to be an all-knowing power, we do wish to remind our counterparts in Paris that our two countries have some fairly lucrative trade agreements, specifically oil and gas. Belmontien companies have been granted contracts to construct pipelines, refineries and offshore-rigs in the South Batavia Sea or Fisherman's Sea. We would be very upset if these contracts had to be terminated due to Belmontien cooperation with a truly dangerous dictatorship that apparently is interested in destabilising our region via care-free and imperialist measures.

We have, throughout the early stages of this conflict, remained mute, respecting Belmont's sovereign right to act as it sees fit. We in Vlaanderen will not, however, sit back and watch Paris collaborate with what we see to be Scanogermania's newest and possibly most serious threat.

Therefore, as it is my duty, I dispatch this message with the intent of receiving a formal reply. The Prime Minister has personally asked me to deliver a response from Madame Prime Minister Martinique.

I am, as always, reachable via the usual methods and will answer night and day, if urgent.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Arjan van Vliet

Bataviën concerns over Belmontien ties
Warm regards to my counterpart from Vlaanderen,

As far as Sceptor Abeloth's offer of aid is concerned, it is a matter that has yet to be decided and when the need for decision arrive, a joint decision will be made, taking into account the views and opinions of HRH The Prince Regent, Members of the Privy Council, Members of the both houses of Parliament and the Government. Additionally, so early on, we can not adequately judge the character of Mr. Abeloth.

Secondly, it is good of you to remember the details of our financial dealings. It must also be remembered, that when the de Graaf regime collapsed and the democratic government was installed, Belmont has bought extensive Bataviën bonds and has provided several loans in the past year. All of which have contributed to the Bataviën economy's stable growth in recent months. Furthermore, agreements have been made with the companies and not with the Government of Belmont - that was assumed here in Paris to be understood by all. It is not wise at all to mix business deals in this political matter.

Thirdly, the neutrality of the Bataviën Republic has been much appreciated but, considering the role the de Graaf regime played in supporting the Socialist Republic of Coronado for many decades, the request of Vlaanderen seems hypocritical to us and requires further explanation for that impression to be shed from our minds.

For it must be realized, whatever threat Batavië faces from Dracun is the same what Belmont faces with Coronado.

Let it be made clear, from the onset, that we do not want to see our economic co-operation falter under the stresses of this new regional player. We in Batavia are also very grateful for the various financial stability packages presented to us since the fall of communism of March this past year. They have helped us continue on the path towards democracy and stability.

Drakun, and certainly its dictator, appears quite simply to be a supporter of chaos, anarchy and tyranny, not democracy or stability. While there may have been alleged connection between Vlaanderen and Toledo during the De Graaf era, I would not go so far as to compare the threat that Coronado has on Belmont to that of Drakun.

Coronado, at any rate, has acted in the past decades under the realms of the status quo. Something which, until recently, was respected by all parties in the Scanogermanian-Gallian greater region. I am certain that should Paris really intend to further this armed conflict it will not face too much of a problem, what with the well-prepared and well-equipped Belmontien armed forces. We simply do not see the need for the acceptance of aid from Drakun. After all, the country has been isolated for decades, trades with no one and has a military smaller, probably, than our two national police forces combined.

Please do not take my suggestions and comments the wrong way. I, as Foreign Minister of Batavia, am not asking Paris to refuse relations with the new player. That would be preposterous and arrogant. I simply wish to strongly urge you as Foreign Minister of Belmont to carefully calculate the pros and cons of dealings with the country in the far north. Trade and a normal exchange are one thing, co-operating militarily is certainly another.

Our Northern Council partners would certainly be disappointed if Paris were to come under the dictatorial thumb of the 'Sceptor'.

Met vriendelijke groet,
