Kidnap attempt on the High Queen

The High Queen and her husband Captain-Prince Niklazs Attenberg Äslaug have escaped an apparent kidnap attempt in which four people were wounded.
The royal couple were returning to the Haughter Palace along Mall when their chauffer was forced to halt by another car which blocked their route.

A man appeared from a light coloured vehicle and fired six shots, all of which it is said were not directed at the royal couple, but left four people in hospital.

The High Queen' private detective Inspector Karl äv Zsü und Þenn fired at the man before he was wounded and the chauffer Jarald äv Jiirstädt, one of the High Queen's senior drivers, was also injured.

They have both now been taken to Aschgæt Hospital were they are understood to be undergoing surgery.

A High Guard who heard the shots and attended was hit in the stomach and a man passing in a car was also wounded.

Flood devastates an city in Mildiþe

Twelve bodies have been recovered and 42 people are missing feared dead in the flood which has swept through the City of Vrægn-Valebä in north Mildiþe.
The normally picturesque holiday city was evacuated early today as troops and council workers were brought in to begin clearing the devastation.

Hundreds of people have been left homeless. There is no water, gas or electricity supply. All the boats in the harbour have been washed out to sea. Four main road bridges have been swept away.

The flood followed yesterday's torrential rain. In the 24 hours before, some nine inches of rain had fallen on Þenn, just four miles away.

"We watched a row of cottages fold up like a pack of cards"

Jræa äv Jiirstädt

The water flowed off the moors and into the rivers East and West Liok which came together as a raging torrent in the steep, narrow valley leading into Vrægnsite.

Harald Teþand, owner of the Vrægn aun Teþand Hotel, said his cellars had flooded before so he was not too worried at first.

"It carried away the chapel opposite and a fruit shop. Three people in the fruit shop were swept against the lounge windows of the hotel. We managed to pull them through in the nick of time.

A fisherman, Karl Oxendott, said the high street was impassable so he had to run through the woods to reach his wife and child, who were staying in a caravan at the top end of Vrægn-Valebä.

The High Queen has sent a message, which was read out at a meeting in the town hall this evening. A telegram was also received from the Councilor of the High Kingdom.

Anniversary of Eilänian's accession to High Throne

Three hundred years ago on Friday, the High Council called on an unremarkable, if not downright dull, Eilänien princeling and invited him to wear the High Jørven crown.

It had been a long quest. But the old and ailing Aren queen, Liaer Inger Aren, would die leaving no surviving children despite enduring 9 pregnancies, and the list of her close relatives was inconveniently long.

Jeor of Eilän, King of Eilän, may never been in line, but he was aan influent King, and a great-grandson of King Harald Firginn Aren.

Having been proclaimed High King, Jeor arrived on Ostvallen shores in September 1698, aged 54, leaving behind a mad wife.

"He never fully succeeded in asserting his power," said Ferning Ostgabst. His attempts would have been marred by courtiers and the fact that he hardly ever attended High Council meetings.
