In The Eyes of the Awakened Gods and Men,

The Golden Porte expresses its concern about recent developments in the Long Sea region. The founding of the so-called "Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty" - ostensibly called so for aesthetic reasons - without prior consultations with regional actors of concern, has gravely upset the balance in the Long Sea region. The Golden Porte is convinced that the naming of this institution is no coincidence, and that the name itself indeed carries a hegemonic ambition within it to an extent, and as such is far more than a tripartite treaty of friendship. At no point in the process of the creation of this treaty, had the Golden Porte been briefed about the existence of intentions to create a mutual defense network in the Long Sea region, nor had Imperial diplomats been informed about the intended scope and mission of such a network. Already, the announced plans to expand the network even further with additional invitations reveal the treaty's nature as an expansive force rather than as a gathering of friends.

It must therefore be assumed that the negotiations for this treaty have happened in secrecy for a reason. We invite the Lords of the West with commercial and other interests in the Long Sea region to share their concerns regarding this new, so brazenly announced institution, and we call upon the tripartite negotiators to in detail brief the concert of powers about the scope and mission of this "Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty". Finally, the Golden Porte seeks an open and public commitment of the involved powers to non-hegemony in the Long Sea in the eyes of the awakened gods and men, so that the status quo in the sea can be maintained and not usurped by one interest group or the other. Already this latest conflict amongst the Lords of the West is creating bigger and bigger waves, and the Lord of the Thousand Lands is not determined to be hit by a tsunami, but rather stop these developments in their tracks.

Once more, it must be stressed that the announcement of this compact with this name came as a grave concern to the Celestial Empire, and it is the earnest hope of the Eternal One that these concerns will be addressed forthwith.

Your Excellencies,

We understand your concerns, however the choice for the name was purely aesthetic, as the name Tripartite and all names related to it were already in use and "Treaty of Mutual Defence, Friendship and Commerce of Eiffelland, Ionia and Nichtstein" ,which we originally proposed, sounded too big. Your excellencies were not informed of the negotiations behind this body as it was a way to officialise the cordial relations between Ionia, Eiffelland and Nichtstein, not an attempt at uniting the Long Sea or achieving hegemony over it. The invitation extended to Eiffelland and Nichstein was publicly made known even by media so the negotiations were definitely not in secret.

If it concerns we can simply change the name to Treaty of Mutual Defence, Friendship and Commerce of Eiffelland, Ionia and Nichtstein. We are interested in maintaining the staus quo more than anything, and this was one of the prime reasons for our founding of this agreement. We hope we have put your concerns to rest.

To whom it may concern,

The Union State, having carefully monitored the situation in the Long Sea, now endeavors to express its own considered opinions and sentiments on the topic of the so-called "Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty". We are resolute in our determination that our trade with the Orient, growing every year in bulk and value, not be at the mercy of hegemonic, expansionist, and potentially destabilizing power blocs. In the view of the Union State, this organization constitutes just as grave a threat to Occidental and Gallo-Germanic commercial interests as any that may be posed by either the Arretine state or Red Vangala.

The brazen eagerness with which Ionia has sought to directly confront the Arretine state, outside its own territorial waters and with excessive force, seems portentous. It confirms for the Union State the sentiments expressed above, whereby the organization, created and having conducted its affairs in secret, aims to achieve domination of the Long Sea. In blunt terms, the control of such a vital trade lane by imperialistic Old World powers constitutes an unacceptable situation for the Union State. The so-called declaration of neutrality made some days before by Ionia will thus no longer be recognized by the Union State, in the view that any claim to true neutrality has long since now been tarnished by alliance and the ambition to control the Long Sea passage. This dispatch may be considered a formal protest for all intents and purposes, the Union State lodging it against the blatant powerplay going on.

Our colleagues in the Golden Khaganate have already raised all other concerns which the Union State currently possesses, and we must commend them for seizing the initiative in commenting on this matter.

While I understand your worries regarding the Long Sea, it is time that I share with you my plans for this region, something I should have done awhile ago. You and I share a common enemy, those you lie west of your borders. The Arretine Empire has no desire to harm your trade throughout the region. Our simple goal at this moment is the destruction of the "Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty", ruining this Ionian grab at economic and military power in the Long Sea region. We do not wish to conflict with you, a fellow Empire in this world slowly turning against the likes of us. Instead we wish to become partners. While Arretine-Eternal relations may not have been the most smooth in the past, we have never before come into direct military conflict. Recently, we have overcome our vast differences and entered into a fruitful friendship with our friends in Auraria. We wish to extend this hand to you as well. Should we succeed in clearing the Long Sea of this Ionian alliance, trade opportunities for the Eternal Empire, and their friends, will be greater than ever before. The Grand Duchy of Nichtstein wishes to assure all the nations in the world that the Nichtsteiner Steel Panzerstrikelegions and the Nichtsteiner Kriegsarmada shall pose no threat to any nation on earth for the simple reason that they do not exist. The Grand Duchy of Nichtstein does not maintain a hostile posture, has always maintained a relaxed attitude towards international relations and does not intend to threaten or bully or even in so far as verbally insult anyone. That our Ionian friends are a bit too free with their words is simply southern character. After all, Arrentines are just as free with their words.

To all those who are threatened by the Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty, the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein will be happy to provide a prize fund of ten thousand Nichtsteiner Marks (10'000 NM) to come up with a new, seemingly less hostile and aggressive sounding appellation. Because, indeed, there is nothing hostile or aggressive intended in the entire affair. Those who will even bother reading the charter, available for all publicly to obtain at your nearest Nichtsteiner Embassy. Also, to all those who claim that negotiations are conducted in secrecy, we are grateful, for you are far more confident of the Nichtsteiner capacity to keep anything secret than we are capable of. In fact, the timetable of the Foreign Minister, Urs Unterhosen, is publicly available and there was nothing secret in his movements. That we do not yell on every roof about the exact locations our Foreign Minister is going is just a matter of common sense.

In so far as consulting with other powers is concerned, we ask forgiveness for this oversight and shall indeed strive forward to consulting with a broader range of powers in the future.

However, the Grand Duchy quietly draws attention to the fact that the alliance between Auraria and the Arrentine Empire, which, if one looks at the map, began to straddle the Long Sea long before there was any talk of association between Eiffelland, Nichtstein and Ionia, has also never sought to consult with anyone. Indeed, neither Nichtstein nor Eiffelland were consulted on anything going on and about between Auraria and Arrentine. It is, thus, our opinion that powers criticising us should also dedicate a few lines to those countries, just for equality's sake. Equality is quite the thing in Nichtstein and Eiffelland lately.

In all this, the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein seeks to yet again reassure all and reiterate that it is but a small and humble friendly nation sitting about minding its own business.

For us, the Confederation of Ionia has simply lost its diplomatic legitimacy. How can we believe what their diplomats are saying, when one day they declare neutrality and that they want peace and friendship, then the next day they enter military alliances. Now we find out that because of a simple letter from an Ionian island to the Arretine Empire, an imperial battlecruiser and a tugboat were attacked by the Ionian the Ionian fleet, in international waters. The response from the Ionians being that it was in their exclusive economic zone. We cannot accept ships being attacked in international waters and still talk about the neutrality of the aggressor.

We would also like to remind you all that while Ionia was declaring permanent neutrality and the fact that their alliance with Eiffelland and Nichtstein is just a defensive one, the Ionian newspapers were talking about military exercises between them and the other two members of their alliance and the fact that the Ionian government started for some time a "modernization program" for their naval forces, the goal of those being the creation of a powerful blue water navy.

Our questions now are the following for Ionia and the other countries of the world. Why would a neutral country enter a military alliance? Why does it need to spend billions on huge battleships? Why does it attack foreign ships in international waters? What are actually their plans behind the whole declaration? Right now, this declaration of neutrality is null and void because of the militarism and aggressiveness of the Ionian Confederation.

In the end, what do the Ionians have to choose from not accepting all nations that neighbor the Long Sea into their alliance? If they are so neutral, why are they preferential? The continuous disagreements between the very words of the Ionian ministers who one day say something and another day something completely different has shown us that the words of the Ionians weight nothing and that they will be judged by the posterity for their actions, not for their soothing, but feeble words. Right now, they have forever destroyed their reputation as a neutral country. And this is not because of our condemnations, but because of their very own actions.

No such ships were attacked. They were intercepted. It is an entirely different thing. Unless of course you have proof of any attack, which you don't.

Article VI. of our declaration states we can enter a Defensive Military Alliance. Unless you have historic examples of neutral nations and internatioanlly accepted documents on the definition of neutrality then your theories are just that; theories.

And when did we say we did not accept other nations in the agreement? TO us you lost your credibility and neutrality on the matter the moment you called the islanders of Lesbos "Arretine Citizens". We have shown no sign of aggressiveness whatsoever. If you really did come to these conclusions we highly doubt your diplomats' ability to analyze information.

We understand the concern surrounding the events unfolding in the Long Sea and we also understand how you may find this message redundant as we do not control access to this body of water, but our message one of warning rather than one of empty words as the many messages you've no doubt received surely are. This "Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty" is only one of many organizations meant to usurp the power of the Eternal One, another is called the 'Tripartite Agreement' which has fooled many within the world as being in favor of peace but is no doubt responsible for this conflict as well as many others and we understand that the Eternal One within his unbound wisdom has already seen through this facade, we implore you as your fellow eastern brothers to take heed to these warnings from the West as a sign of increased ambition and colonialism and to do what you feel is necessary to ensure continuing peace and security in the Long Sea for years to come.

The Golden Porte does consider the name behind this organization to indeed reflect upon a claim, certainly in regards to the geographical reaches of this agreement. At best, the manner in which this organization was brought about and its naming have been poorly thought out, at worst, the Golden Porte's fears have not been mitigated. The Lord of the Thousands Lands considers the utmost openness in regards to discussing political changes in the Long Sea to be of prime importance, especially while keeping in mind the history of treason and hostilities by the Lords of the West which the realms of the Eternal One have not yet forgotten. The Golden Porte will eagerly observe the upcoming developments in regards to changes to the charter, membership and naming of the body that has now come under international scrutiny, and words alone will, in the eyes of the Eternal One, will not restore concord within the ranks of the concert of nations. The Golden Porte expects concrete action on part of the treaty nations and will continue to comment on the upcoming developments or lack thereof, respectively adjusting its policy depending on how this calamity will develop. More specifically, the Eternal One hopes that there will be an ongoing dialog between all concerned parties about how to proceed from this point on.

Above all, the Throne of the West values continued stability and reliability in the Long Sea, and we trust - and are reassured by the international response - that this is the strong desire of many Lords of the West as well.

The concerns of the Rzeczpospolita Wendziema in regards to the establishment of the Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty are focused solely on the coincidence of its founding alongside the rapid escalation of tensions in the Long Sea between the Arrentine Empire and the Ionian Confederation, tensions that, day by day, threaten more and more to bring destructive conflict to the tranquil trade routes that are so vital to many peoples, not merely the Wendowie. This potential polarization and possible establishment of an attempted hegemony over such an important body of water concerns the Wendowie, and as such, we wish only for the crisis to be defused and an understanding established between all nations bordering the Long Sea, not merely those invited to the unfortunately controversial and crisis-provoking Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty. The Rzeczpospolita Wendziema wishes also to announce its continued willingness to cooperate with all interested nations in defusing this crisis and returning the Long Sea to an era of peace, prosperity and partnership for all peoples.

The Golden Porte receives with benevolence your thoughts about the Long Sea Mutual Defense Treaty. As for my enemies, the enemies of my people, they do lie in the western lands, in the petty realms of the universalist sun worshipers, calling for an united house for the community of lies, but they are themselves divided, unable to agree on a sun high priest, instead all aspiring to be the snake in their Garden of Eden. Even in this day and age when the sun is indeed slowly setting upon their beliefs and their people turn to secular salvation in material goods, there are many amongst he Lords of the West who still oppose my rule, realm and people out of envy or spite. Your Arretine house and throne have, traditionally, not been counted amongst these most fervent truth deniers however, and our scholars have recognized that there are cores of what we in the East consider to be the true teaching amongst your beliefs. It would be a folly to deny that there have been historically passed on antagonisms between our realms, but we are both intelligent enough to know this and seek a path forward in the knowledge of the historical burdens with which we march on. The world does change, and so does, I believe, with time, the relation amongst domains.

As regarding the Sun Kingdom, I am naturally apprehensive. Too great has the suffering they caused my people been, to ingrained is their state with the symbolism of the demiurges. However, any potential cooperation in certain fields between us two should not fail because of whatever other friends we decide to keep around. I'm certainly willing to lend an open ear to any proposals regarding Ionia and its threats regarding the Long Sea on a personal level between our two parties. A fruitful resolution of this issue to mutual satisfaction could then well lend to future situations where our banners may rally for one purpose, and over time, the Arretine and Golden houses might grow closer, forged together through growing mutual trust.

As much as it comes at a surprise, the Golden Porte thanks the New State for sharing its input and wisdom regarding the menaces of the Long Sea. The people of the East and the Lord of the Thousand Lands will maintain their readiness, as their watch never ends; too numerous are the defilers, traitors and enemies of prosperity. Security in the Long Sea is not only a matter of concern for those states that enjoy direct access to it, but also those states in the Long Sea's hinterland that indirectly profit from the traded goods arriving on the shores and traveling further inland; as such, the New State is surely chiefly aware of the importance a neutral Long Sea has to its national health. As regards the Tripartite nations, the Golden Porte has and will continue to be cautious, as many of the new idols promoted in the lands of the Lords of the West can be directly traced to the faulty and dangerous ideas propagated amongst their peoples. It is the hope of the Golden Porte that this encouraging message we have received from Felszabad can be seen as a sign of awakening in the western lands perhaps, a path away from the nauseating quest of the nations to rise to a place in the sun, a path towards attaining gnosis and true fulfillment through the annunciation of truth and sharing the gospel of holistic rebirth of the peoples amongst the nations.
