Silk Sea Crisis 'big test' for Imperial-backed new government
JUGOL - Opposition politicians have called on the new government to act decisively and de-escalate the situation in the Silk Sea in the first parliamentary session in nearly two years, after at least two warplanes were shot down by rival forces near Justosia.
The Pan-Hasremotic People's League (PHPL), the newly formed majority party, had hoped to use the opening session to set out ambitious spending plans but the brewing conflict in the Silk Sea forced a change of topic. Instead extra patrols around the Pillars of Nearchus and Azraqi Spice Isles, together with an offer to host mediating talks in Jugol, ended being the League's first major announcements as governing party.
Opposition members in the Council of Youth, the lower chamber of the Imperial Parliament, questioned whether the extra activity by the Azraqi military would inflame tensions and demanded greater action to minimise the risk of conflict.
Justice Party leader Mulatu Birru, recently released from prison after being accused of having links to banned terror oganisations, said failure to prevent war would be "black stain" on Azraqi foreign policy.
The government has made clear Azraq will remain neutral in any conflict, despite us having a treaty of friendship and trade agreement with the Continental Empire of Justosia, which allegedly shot down an Ambrosian fighter jet. Sylvania, another Westernesse nation, has since claimed it shot down a Justosian aircraft in response.
His Imperial Majesty Boqor Tiirka Illah also made a personal televised appeal for peace and offered to host private talks in one the imperial palaces.
One member of the PHPL, which was formed after the Emperor brokered deal between the long dominant Party of Principles and number of other smaller parties, admitted the crisis represented a "big test" for your new administration.
"All eyes are on us and the Emperor," he said, "there is a lot of pressure."
