King Lother opens Royal Unification Festival in Wiefelburg

King Lothar III has inaugurated the IX Royal Festival of the Unification of Wiefel and opened the Royal Festival Park in Wiefelburg.
The festival has been organised to mark the bicentenary of the coronation of the First King of the House Raitz-Frentz (Raitz von Frentz). It is intended to comemorate the unification of the Kingdoms of Wiefel and Hesse.

After a special service attended by the King, Queen Helmina, Prince Lothar and Ruprecht and other senior members of the royal family, King Lothar declared the festival open in a broadcast from the steps of Schloss Wiefelburg.

Cheering and flag-waving crowds lined the route taken by the King and Queen to Schloss Wiefelburg from Schloss Steinhäusser.

Wiefellander Ministerpräsident found dead!

Wiefellander Ministerpräsident Hildebrandt "Hilde" Heidrich has committed suicide hours after resigning. He was found by his son in his private apartments in Thredburg.

Dr Heidrich, who shot himself through the heart, left a dramatic suicide note that was broadcast on national radio just two hours after his body was discovered.
In it he complained his efforts to expand the Wiefellander Economy and open it to the world, within Germania.

His letter read: "Nothing remains except my blood. I gave you my life, my life to defend this country!"
It ended: "I take the first step to eternity. I leave life to enter in Wiefellander history."

The King will apoint a new Ministerpräsident after his funeral in 16 December 1954.

Helmina Scharf is the first women to be elected Ministerpräsident!

A relatively unknown noble of the Christlich Union has been elected the new leader of the Party and Ministerpräsident.

Helmina Scharf won 71% of the votes of the Parliament and was apointed by the King, soundly beating his rival Karl Grechsf.

Helmina is the first women to be elected Ministerpräsident of Wiefel, and she was received with great hapiness by the population of Wiefelburg. She announced that will mantain the cabinet of the former Ministerpräsident.

But some Christlich Ministers are nervous that an women will now be leading the party and the country. Ludwig Heidrich, the son of the former Ministerpräsident, said he doubted Mrs. Scharf could lead the country after the recent events.

A new Wiefellander currency!

The Wiefellander Government has launched a new currency system across the country.
The familiar Mark and Obermark coins are to be phased out over the next 18 months in favour of a system dividing the Mark into units of ten, including half, one, two, five, ten, 20, 50 and 100 denominations.

Minsiter Karl Brugenn said "It will be an new sistem to change the national coin's shape over 1954 and 1955". But he expected it would take several months to adapt the new sistem in all Wiefel.

Banks have been closed for the past five working days to prepare for the implementation of the new currency.

Heimatborg's port blocked by fishermen, Vinceborg "cleared"!

This morning several dozen members of the Wiefellander Fishers Trade Union (WFTU) moved their boats to block Heimatborg's merchandise port, protesting against the royal government scheme of fines on overfishing that is scheduled to apply in the following days. Several tentative of negotiations between the government and the WFTU failed over the last week and the fishermen said that "since nothing worked and the government is deaf to [their] point of view, [they] have no other way to act". The WFTU declared that "for the moment" they intend only to block "two or three major ports" before starting any wider action. Heimatborg was not the only target this morning as several boats assembled to block Vinceborg's main port. Things went quite differently though in the two cities. Heimatborg's blockade is still going on tonight but Vinceborg has been cleared when an unit of the commands of marines of Lotharia coastguards stormed the fishing boats and forcibly removed them from the port's entrance. The WFTU's direction has condemned these "Lotharian methods" and intend to bring this affair to court. The royal government has complained about the "brutality" of that action but pointed out that ducal governments are responsible for law enforcement within their territory". The Lotharian Ducal government has a documented history of not allowing "perturbations" around the industrial facilities.

King makes Christmas speech!

Millions of Wiefellander listeners have been listening to King Lothar's Christmas broadcast. In a tradition that began in 1941, the King made his address on WRBN radio from the study at Schloss Hergotten at 24 December.

He used the same desk and chair as his father King Rudolf and his father King Wolfgang IV had done. The King began: "In Christmas, at this time and at this same place, my father broadcast a message to his Wiefel. In this Christsmas I am doing this to you, my loved Wiefellander. As he [The King's Father] used to do, I am speaking to you from my home, where I am spending Christmas with my family, just like you."

The King also made mention of the protests that started in this week. "Wherever you are either at Thuringen or Lotharia, in snow or in sunshine, I give you my affectionate greetings, we wish a merry christmas and a happy new year!"

King Lothar will spend the Christmas Day in Wiefelburg, and in the New Year will part to Ludwigsau Castle, in the Lotharian Mountains.

Heimatborg's blocus continuing on!

The fourteen boats that are obstructing Heimatborg's main port are still in place and will remain "as long as [they] need to, possibly for weeks" according to the Wiefellander Fishers Trade Union's (WFTU) representative. A new attempt at negotiations failed yesterday when the WFTU stepped out declaring that "the government's proposed compensations are ridiculous compared to the amount of potential fines it would gather by evaluating the quotas on falsified data". The royal government - with Ministerpräsident Helmina Scharf as main negotiator - proposed to compensate for the reduced profits the fishers would suffer from if they were to respect the quotas and stop over-fishing. The WFTU's representatives claimed that ""over"-fishing will continue, even if [the government] send the police against [the fishing boats], because there's no depletion of the stock as claimed". Ministerpräsident Scharf indicated that the government will implement a stricter control of fishing quotas but was searching for solutions to make it "acceptable" to the fishing industry.

Minister of Dreisenburg found dead!

The Minister of the Duchy of Dreisenburg, Anna von Torhen, has been found dead in her office today as announced by the Dreisenburguer media. The Minister, 45, had been in office since January 1949, the eight democratically elected representant of the Duchy of Dreisenburg in the Royal Parliament since the 1910. The cause of her death is unknown for the moment. Von Torhen, a member of the Christlich-Soziale Union, had a history of shaky relations with the ducal crown since the coronation of Heinrich Berber as Duke of Dreisenburg. Her funeral will happen in 30 December 1954 at Schloss Dreisenburg, at the Duchy of Dreisenburg.

A bridge collapsed in Karlsborg!

A road bridge on Motorway 11 collapsed early this morning 31 km to the north-west of Karlsborg in the Wiefellander highlands. The bridge - actually a double bridge, one separate roadway per direction- was crossing a small valley near the village of Kirtburg with a maximum height of 17 metres. It appears one of the central pillars collapsed on itself, draining the whole roadway with it, on the Sacreburg-Karlsborg side. The bridge, built in 1945 with the motorway, had been renovated between 1949 and 1951 and was "in good shape" according to Vanderborg S.A., the motorway's managing company. Ministerpräsident Scharf visited the location of the accident earlier this evening.

Vanderborg accused of "criminal negligence"!

Under cover of anonymity a member of the investigation board for the Motorway 11's bridge catastrophe claimed that Vanderborg S.A., the private company managing the motorway, holds a large responsibility in the collapse. In the document released to the weekly Wiefellander Zeitung, the member claimed that "[Vanderborg] have neglected the renovation of the bridge to reduce costs. The materials were not of the best quality and not guaranteed to be used on a structure such as a motorway bridge." The document also claimed that several executive from the contractor in charge of the renovation were involved in selecting a lesser-quality material. Vanderborg refused to comment these "shameful lies".

The Sublime Empire of Arakan wishes to stand besides it's friends from the Kingdom of Weifel. The Self-Strengthening Junta wishes to state that the Sublime Empire is saddened by the sufferings of the people and state of Weifel. Protests in the ports, ministers dead, bridges collapse, it is clear that the spirits, either karma or jinn, stand being all this. It is clear, again, that the Kingdom of Weifel is ending this year with a series of bad lucks that have literally plunged the country into crises after crises. To resist, the people of Weifel needs to be strong and hopeful that if this year ends badly, the next one can be full of fortunes. All those events may also be a sign that the Kingdom of Weifel needs to start a series of programs to reform itself. Usually those problems are showing us the way to become stronger by resolving them.

We sadly cannot help the Kingdom of Weifel, as our resources are all being used in the modernization of Arakan's military and economy. But, to prove that we are with our harts together with our friends from Weifel, the flags from the Arakanese Embassy in Weifelburg will be flown at half mast. As for the bridge collapse, it is clear that a more powerful state intervention is necessary to be sure that everything the private enterprises do are clearly at the highest standards for the people, not only their own highest profits.

Heimatborg's port liberated!

Today, after an long meeting with the Leaders of the WFTU, Minister Heidrich closed an deal with the fishers and liberated the port of Heimatborg. This new attempt at negotiations was successful and the President of the WFTU declared that "The proposal of Minister Heidrich was an system of compensations that will maintain the rights of the fishers! ". The son of the old Ministerpräsident Hilde Heidrich caused polemic this week, when he send an message to the Arakanese Government criticizing the Christlich Union and Ministerpräsident Scharf.

Vanderborg's CEO interrogated by police!

While the investigation board has yet refused to publish any of its conclusions after the severe leaked that was reported by the Wiefellander Zeitung, police's actions have given strong hints at the veracity of the allegations. The criminal section of Wiefelburg's police - that is in charge of the affair despite having the accident happening on the territory of neighbouring the Capital City - interrogated Karl Vanderborg, Vanderborg's CEO, for five hours this morning. Neither Mr Vanderborg nor the police accepted to comment on what they discussed but Vanderborg left the police building free. His lawyer declared during the afternoon that he will probably be granted the status of assisted witness for the criminal case that will probably open once the investigation board publish its conclusions.

Celebrations in all Wiefel!

The whole nation celebrates today the 141st anniversary of the Accord of Wifelburg, the document that marked the birth of the present form of the Kingdom and was ratified by the Parliament on 06 January 1813. Each Duchy's capital is going with its celebration but as traditionally since 1814 the major celebration is held in Wiefelburg with the famous military parade. Last year the celebrations were graced by the presence of the Dukes of Karlborg and Thuringen and governmental delegations from all the world. Ambassadors from several nations - Caria, Eiffelland, Arakan, Ulstland, etc. - will also attend to the celebrations.
