HANUKKAH SALES ON THE RISE

Romia Segal
New Haran, New Haran - With Hanukkah a mere three days away, businesses across the Combine are gearing up to serve the imminent surge of customers. From bakeries increasing their orders of various ingredients to be used in sufganiyah fillings, to toy stores loading their discount aisles with dreydlekh of many colours, one can tell that the Festival of Lights is about to take off.

Uprealm, menorah sales are rising, as families prepare to light candles in their homes for the incoming eight nights. "Even Christians have started buying them fifteen years ago," says Benjamin ben Romi, owner of a local furniture shop in Berlaufeld. "I think it's a form of respect. Times are changing."

Doting grandparents are also buying several piggy banks' worth of chocolate gelt. Major South Coast Chocolatier Kupner's is even predicting a smash hit for their new white chocolate and Tiburan mint flavours of gelt, based on current sales reports.

"Sales for either flavour are at roughly 35% of the original milk chocolate gelt," says Kupner's spokesperson Ilan Mayer. "Gelt sales usually peak on Erev Hanukkah and on the morning of 25 Kislev, since that's when people do their last minute shopping."

"Unless it's a Sabbath, of course," Mr. Mayer points out, "In which case they they buy on the day before. We hope the little kiddies appreciate the effort we put into this new enterprise. With some white chocolate or mint, Hanukkah will be more enjoyable for them than before."

Chocolate gelt isn't the only festival treat that's getting some diversity. A new trend with New Harani bakers is coming up with a smorgasbord of new filling flavours for their sufganiyot.

"Aside from the classical strawberry, we're also adding chocolate, blueberry, cream, and lemon bar fillings to our sufganiyot," says Dorit Spitzer, owner of Wonder Dough on 4th Street. "These choices were based on several surveys we did over the past year, so we've had a lot of time to prepare."

"I'm confident that we'll please our customers," Mrs. Spitzer added. "We did our research."

All portents are pointing towards a very dynamic Hanukkah this year. And with such tumultuous events happening in the surrounding world, we must never forget to be thankful for the blessings we have. As we begin to light our candles on the 25th, let us continue to commemorate the miracle of a day's worth of oil lasting for eight.

Ashkelon, Ascalon - Renowned firearms manufacturer Asher-Kempinski reports a 50% completion on a major contract with the Pan-Oceanic Federation.

The contract, which aims to deliver a total of 200,000 AR-47 rifles to the Pan-O, runs on a quarterly basis, shipping 20,000 units per batch. These will be used by the Pan-Oceanic Armed Forces in the defence of the archipelagic nation.

Stipulations give Asher-Kempinski a maximum of 4 years to fulfill the order, which the company is all too eager to accomplish in record time.

"We are proud to be able to export these weapons to eager clients," says Asher-Kempinski spokesperson John Levin. "The 47 is a fine assault rifle."

The AR-47 has proven to be an excellent all around service weapon, combining low production costs, a rugged reliability that allows it to continue functioning under the most rigorous conditions, and incredible ease of use.

These factors have made it not just the weapon of choice for the Combine Defence Force, the various Realm Militias, Knightly Charities, and militaries importing from Asher-Kempinski's stock. It is also one of the most preferred weapons for civilian purchase.

Men and women who are out fulfilling the Homeland Defence Code also prefer the AR-47 as their primary home and personal defence weapon, with another popular automatic weapon, the Misrah Arms Seraf submachine gun, as their secondary firearm.

Asher-Kempinski expects to complete the Pan-O contract in under two years.

Pelasgian Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Public Statement

28th of November, 1956
To whom it may concern.

The Pelasgian Empire shall not surrender even a single breath of air, a single drop of water, or a handful of soil belonging to the Empire to any foreign state. If the chauvinists of the Alayah Party and those like them have any treacherous designs on the Holy City of Hierosolema, they ought to abandon them instanter, lest they dive straight into their own doom. The Empire's territorial integrity is unquestionable and non-negotiable. As such, the Empire's armies are ready to defend it, standing side by side with the Empire's allies, if necessary. Hierosolema is not the extension of any foreign country's land, but the rightful and sole territory of the Empire and Her citizens. All those in Hebron would do well to heed the warnings of Mr. MacCarrain. The Empire has not been so impertinent as to lay claim to the territory of any sovereign state, Ashkelon included, and demands the same rightful courtesy.

Signed and Sealed,

Ikaros Dragases

Minister of Foreign Affairs
Pelasgian Empire

Joint statement from the Yiddish People's Party and Homeland Union

Constant demands for territory only seek to put international Jewry on a collision course with the community of established nation-states. While wishing our cousins in Ashkelon a happy and safe Hanukkah, we urge them to end these ultimately futile negotiations and recognise that Jews have a homeland in whatever country they already live in.

The Jewry of the Combine wish a bright and happy Hanukkah to our brothers and sisters residing in the Free States. Having just received definitive remarks from the Pelasgian Empire concerning their stance on the Holy City of Jerusalem, it is likely that the recently passed Jerusalem Enclave Act will go into the awkward state of stillbirth. We thank you for your advice concerning this heartfelt matter, and will do our best to adjust to this current situation.
