The People's Republic of Vangala is concerned that the suggestions Coronado is involved with the attempted assassination of Thomas Martinique are an effort by Belmont to try and punish Toledo for bravely recognising North Ratomkira as an independent state.

As the government of Coronado had no hand in the assassination attempt, the far too convenient timing of this leak and the silence of the government of Belmont concerning the contents of the document has led this government to conclude that it is officials within the government of Belmont itself that are attempting to cast blame on the Socialist Republic of Coronado so as to divert attention away from themselves.

HEADLINES ACROSS BELMONT

Le Journale Politique Étrangère
THE GOVERNMENT OF CORONADO DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN MARTINIQUE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Toledo points finger of guilt at officials in Paris, believes its a conspiracy against them

As the headline hit newsstands across the world, the Government of Coronado has reacted with harsh denials as to any involvement in the shooting of Benjamin Martinique or the botched assassination plot to kill his wife; the Premier of Belmont and its Foreign Minister has claimed that Belmontien officials are trying to deflect attention from themselves, a claim that has been ridiculed across the Belmontien journalistic community.

The Government of Belmont has responded by issuing a statement in which it has said that claims such as these were intended to discredit the Kingdom and that no sane media group would believe that the Government of Belmont has planted something such as this, the statement also pointed to the fact that the practices of leaking government documents had at times worked to the detriment of the Belmontien governments of the past and that the Government could not control the freedom of press in Belmont, an idea, which it said, was unheard of in Coronado.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandre Renaudière has further stated that claims made by his counterpart were utterly flawed and he expected an apology to be issued within 24 hours or "considerations will have to be made." Security along the southern borders remains tight and the Frontier Corps, the paramilitary force in charge of protecting the borders, has been put on increased alert. The situation with Coronado has been deteriorating since the country recognized the northern Ratomkiran insurgents as representatives of the Ratomkiran people.

LORRAINE REBOUNDS AGGRESSIVELY FROM OPPOSITION CLAIMS ITS A THREAT TO BELMONT
Metz questions the motives of Belmont for maintaining strong defensive capability

The announcement made by the Opposition leader in Parliament, in regards to the perceived threat facing Belmont from our borders with the EDF states of Montelimar and Lorraine, has drawn severe criticism by the Government of Lorraine and to a lesser extent by others in the EDF Bloc. The statement issued from Metz has communicated a fear there that Belmont would be abandoning its no-first strike policy and could possibly use its military against the Kingdom of Lorraine, a claim which has been refuted by the Government in Paris.

The Opposition Leader, Mr. Rebinaud, has said that he regrets that his comments caused this misunderstanding but said that it was his duty to make sure that the nation was militarily prepared for its defense. He pointed to the fact that during the 1930s Belmont was peaceful and was thus invaded in the Great War. He said that the experience of occupation, even partial occupation as experienced during the Great War, was something which could not be allowed to take place again. He furthermore said that it was not in Belmont's interests, or in the interests of the Opposition, to wage war against those who have remained peaceful for centuries towards us.

In an effort to ease the situation, Mr. Rebinaud has invited the Lorrainese Ambassador to his home to discuss the matter and to convey his opinion that Francophone Unity wasn't "dead" and that hope existed to restore historically peaceful ties. Premier Martinique has supported the effort and has herself scheduled a meeting with the Ambassador for Wednesday.

ARCHBISHOP OF PARIS SPEAKS AGAINST POPE STÉPHANE IV'S NON-CANONICAL TEACHINGS
Says: "None of the Belmontien cardinals voted for him, we know he doesn't understand all the people of his realm"

The Archbishop of Paris has once again invited controversy by claiming that he supported the Bishop of Wiese in his comments that Pope Stéphane IV's stance on homosexuality went against the Bible. The Archbishop of Paris further stated that the involvement of the Pope in the "homosexual question" came only after it was revealed that an Eiffellander Prince was homosexual and, in his opinion, the Pope's edict was issued with geo-political aspects in mind rather than religion. He said that with the Papal States descending from one disaster to another since the ascension of Pope Stéphane IV, the Papal States government has thought that it must seek to win Eiffelland's favor for its own needs such as money and defense.

The Archbishop, when speaking to the audience of young students from the University of Paris, said that he was sure that it was simply a matter of time before Pope Stéphane would "show the medieval tendencies of his office" and remove him as Archbishop of Paris, the senior-most clergyman of the Catholic Church in Belmont. In his opinion, he had been around for as long as he has solely because of the support he enjoys from the people of Belmont. Later on in the speech, he went to remind the audience that the Belmontien cardinals abstained from voting in the Conclave because of the politicization of the Holy See by some regional powers.

As he ended his speech, The Archbishop said that he was of the opinion that His Holiness didn't understand the people of his realms and he aired his concern that maybe Pope Stéphane might live to see his domain shrink even further.

Whereas there's no doubt that any democratic state worth its very name and titling ought to tolerate freedom of speech, it's the belief of His Majesty's Government that there's a fine line between asserting one's constitutionally granted right of free speech and mere slandering. We hope the political elite of Belmont is aware of their collective responsibility towards their people and the people of Germania. Regarding the leaked document which also includes references to the European Defence Federation I would like to address this particular matter directly with the Belmontien ambassador to the Court of Nürnberg.

An apology will not be forthcoming as the government of Belmont, in their silence allowed their own media to implicate the Socialist Republic of Coronado in the assissination attempt of Premier Martinique. Whether Paris officials leaked the documents intentionally or not, they were duplicitous in Belmontian press smear of the government and state of Coronado. As of the statement of "considerations will have to be made", I remind the government in Paris, we are not spineless like their Lorrainian cousins and do not respond to threats lightly.

 Official ISE report points finger of blame on SRC Government

Released by the Premier's office yesterday, soon after she spoke to journalists, the official ISE report has determined that the Socialist Republic of Coronado was responsible for financing the man who carried out the botched attempt on Premier Martinique's life and the subsequent shooting of her husband. The report determined that the suspect, whose identity remains classified, has confessed to his crimes and names key personnel who assisted him financially and providing arms to him. The report outlines that several names mentioned by the suspect have connections to the Coronadan Government and other international communist terrorist groups.

Premier Martinique announced that such "blatant terrorism [would] not be acceptable" and the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Immigration would be launching a full investigation into possible Coronadan connections in Belmont and would "deal with them with the fierceness the like of which never seen before in Gallia... terrorism will not be tolerated."

 Foreign Ministry of Coronado rebuffs Belmontien ultimatum

The ultimatum issued to the Government of Coronado to apologize to the Government of Belmont for their claims that the Martinique Government was orchestrating a cover up has passed and the Coronadan government has announced that an apology shall not be issued. Instead, pushing to deploy additional troops along the border, a move which has drawn fierce criticism from Paris. The Government of Belmont responded by deploying three regiments of the Frontier Corps to the southern border and heightening their state of alert.

Such an implication is an outrage as the government of Coronado had no part in the assassination attempt on Premier Martinique. With this announcement, there is no longer any doubt in our minds that this entire scheme was been planned and executed by individuals within government of Belmont, and considering the bogus report, it is likely that the primary participants are within the Belmontian inteligence community itself. We warn Paris, be careful the path you follow, its destination may not be the one that was intended.

Guiana has always condemned terrorism in any of its forms and do so now if such is the case in this instance, but we caution the Belmontian government to tread lightly in this matter as such accusations, without irrefutable evidence to back it up, may have disasterous consequences.

If that is the decision of Paris, so be it, but it will be communicated to all foreign embassies in Toledo that it was Belmont that broke off diplomatic relations and not Coronado.

We are extremely concerned about the recent developments between Belmont and Coronado. We consider it needed that this matter is re-investigated by a neutral instance. Because we are not seen as a neutral instance by the Belmontien government, Eiffelland will not officially investigate it.

While we emphasize our full support for Paris in the wake of this assasination-attempt, we would like to urge the Belmontien government to avoid taking too drastic steps and wait for a full investigation to be completed.

The Revolutionary Council condemns this blatant fabrication on the part of the Belmontien government. Until irrefutable proof of the SRC's complicity in the assassination attempt is presented, we will regard any attacks by Belmont on the country of Coronado as a blatant act of aggression against the whole of the Revolutionary Defense Treaty Organization.

As there has been doubt cast upon the claims made by the ISE of Coronado's involvement in the assassination attempt of Prime Minister Martinique, HM Government recommends that the government of Belmont not to take any hasty actions until all avenues of investigation is exhausted.

This document is authorized to be disseminated to the Belmontien Foreign Office.

Rumors are circulating throughout multiple diplomatic channels, supported by limited satellite surveillance, suggesting a Belmontien attack against Coronado occurred. In lieu of the evidence presented to DICE by ISE agents, the Office of Foreign Affairs in Sinhai has concluded that any action taken by Belmontien Royal Armed Forces was conducted under the premises of defending national sovereignty against infringements made by the RDTO on the South.

The RDTO has resorted to worse in the past, and it would be folly for the European Defense Federation to begin supporting nations popularly believed to sponsor terrorism. When the conclusive evidence is uncovered, the European Defense Federation will realize it is the Communists, and not the self-preserving actions of the brave soldiers of Belmont, that are to blame.

REPORT: HRH The Prince Regent declares of war against the Socialist Republic of Coronado

In a broadcast from his office, this morning, HRH Nicolas, The Prince Regent has announced that the Kingdom of Belmont has responded militarily by launching a surprise military air raid against key Coronadan defense facilities across the northern countryside of Coronado. The most important part of the twenty five minute speech has been quoted here:

Good Morning. As Regent of the Kingdom, I take every opportunity to speak with my subjects... on a variety of issues... as is my duty appointed by God. But today, as my voice reaches every corner of the country, I inform my subjects that a very difficult decision has had to be taken by myself. A decision made, after full consultation with The Government, The Parliament and the Military and the whole range of evidence produced before me, including satellite imagery and communication signals picked up by our satellites. Simply one impression can be made by this deluge of information.

The Socialist Republic of Coronado, our southern neighbor, has been planning to strike against our Kingdom and I, as the regent of this Kingdom, cannot allow the lives of my people to be endangered and thus, early this morning, with my full assent, the armed forces of Belmont carried out a preemptive strike against critical military targets in Coronado that were a direct threat to the public of Visidame, and the people of the Kingdom. This information doesn't surprise me or my Council... as an ideology, communism has shown itself to be against everything any civilized state holds dear and we must never forget the ravages of the Great War, brought upon the world by the communists.

This decision was one of the hardest, I have had to take, and this decision is bound to have opposition from those who would have preferred the diplomatic option. But I have done what, in my opinion, is the right thing to do. With communist insurgents, supported by the an RDTO ally of Coronado, ravaging northern Ratomkira... it is my firm belief that had we not acted now... we would have faced Marxist insurgents being implanted in Visidame. Those who shall claim that we have violated our military doctrine of no first strike... should remember that with absolute evidence against the Regime in Toledo, in regards to the attempted assassination of Premier Martinique, the first shot was already fired by someone on Toledo's payroll.

Furthermore, I must address concerns in the region, especially those in the Francophone fold, Belmont wishes none of you any harm... for you have stuck true with our ancient paths... though our politicians disagree occasionally, I am committed to maintaining a friendship among the Crowns of Gallia. I must also say, that Belmont has assumed this grave responsibility not just for its own interests but for the interests of the other Gallian powers as well.

Yes this war brings instability... but only temporary shall it last... though had we not, we would have seen untold levels of near constant turbulence across Gallia."

The accusations of Belmont concerning Coronado we find are without merit. War over a botched assassination attempt. The belligerent attitudes of Belmont concerning all of its neighbors, most recently before the war was Lorraine, has been the cause of any possible Coronadoian moves to defend themselves. Because of the actions of Belmont we have decided to shelve our plans to reopen our embassy in Paris indefinitely.

We encourage all nations to not believe the Belmontian lies concerning this war and see it for what it is, as Belmont aggression. Soon we will review the possibility of economic sanctions against the Kingdom of Belmont if it refuses to cease its warlike behavior in a region know for its stability.

The United Emirates of Cakistan condemns the unwarranted and illegal aggression against the people of the Socialist Republic of Coronado. While the Emirates stood with Paris after the recent assignation attempt we find the evidence of Coronadian involvement in the plot to be underwhelming, and not of the quality sufficient to undertake such drastic action as a state of war. We urge the Republic of Belmont to take a step back from the maw of war. It seems certain that if the current course is continued then the outcome will be thousands of casualties on both sides. This human tragedy can be averted through renewed diplomacy and international arbitration of the current dispute.

As of this date we are officially recalling the Emirates Ambassador to Belmont back to Taze Jiyan for consultations. The Shah's Government shall continue to monitor the situation between Coronado and Belmont and hopes sincerely for an quick and pacific end to the conflict.

A nation must consider first and foremost the security of its own people and the strength of its sovereignty before all other duties. It is the responsibility of a government, assigned to it through the social contract, to protect the interests of its own people.

I find the actions of Belmont, while unsavory, to be necessary in lieu of the threats perceived to it. I pray for a swift and decisive end to the conflict that will ensure a stronger and more continuous peace in the Occident. Save for the actions of outsiders, I do believe that peace between Coronado and Belmont is still achievable. Should the immediate threat to Belmont have been extinguished by the decisive actions on the part of Belmont, Coronado presents no further threat.

Should Coronado continue to engage in a conflict when a logical diplomatic exit to quickly end an undesirable war has presented itself, then the blame will lay on the shoulders of the nation which continues to engage in that practice which is detrimental to the lives of citizens and in violation of the critical contract that all governments are beholden to.
