Prometheist League and United People's Party unite for the elections
The members of the UPP and of the Prometheist League have officially decided to unite together and form a united front of the left in the upcoming elections. The decision comes after two weeks of negotiations between the two parties and a series of compromises made by each party, so that both of them renounced parts of their ideologies, so that the Union would not be so decentralized, with numerous ideological factions, as the United People's Party was. The Prometheist League agreed to renounce all its vanguardist remnants, while the United People's Party has agreed to adhere to Prometheism. The resulting union will be called the Prometheist People's Union, with its main ideologies being Social Democracy and Prometheism and its political alignment being center-left.
"We hope that we can create a functioning welfare state in which we can help the lower strata improve their living conditions and we can lower the Gini coefficient of the Commonwealth. The big discrepancy that appeared in so many years of conservative rule starts to be a threat to the Commonwealth of Camden. We cannot call ourselves a republican democracy when we see the rich strata gaining more and more of the national wealth thus becoming oligarchs and thus threatening even the right of equality in chances. For this, we have decided to change the flat tax rate to a progressive one, housing, healthcare and education programs for the people," declared the chairman of the UPP, the Honorable Liam Savage, MP for Fortitude Valley-Harton.
"We hope that Camden can become a beacon of social justice in the western hemisphere, as it already is in the southern one. We heed to create a system in which all the people of this country, from blue collar workers in Blackmere to white collar workers in Harton, from farmers from Parramatta to fishers in Salamander Bay, from Barapa Barapa aboriginals to Yujiner immigrants can feel at home on this continent and they can know that they aren't paying their taxes just so that the money enters the pockets of certain members of the government. The whole concept of paying taxes must be changed, from a simple chore one has to do to the state to the perspective of an investment. You pay taxes today, but tomorrow, you will have free healthcare and education," declared the General Secretary of the Prometheist League, the Honorable Robert James Edwards, MP for Catsview-Morans Crossing.
The union between the two parties have literally managed to unite the whole left wing specter from the Camdenite politics. In all Camden's history, the left-wing parties developed a tradition of unity in the election season, in contrast to the right-wing parties which were more and more decentralized and broken in the election campaign but still, managed to create powerful coalitions against the UPP.
Country Party, in dire need of a reformation
The Country Party has dominated Camdenite politics in the last 10 years, with three governments, one led by Ryan McCormick, one by Evan Blackburn and another, still in power, led by John Ross. 1954 came as a great shock for the main conservative party from the continent, when the reformist faction led by John Ross and Yankinao against the traditionalist faction, led by Evan Blackburn and Jon Eaton. The event, in which the members of the party voted for a motion of no confidence and thus dismissed Evan Blackburn from the office of party chairman, and thus also dismissed Blackburn's government has often been called by the traditionalists as being a coup.
The current chairman of the CP, John Ross has declared in a press conference that the party has to adapt and modernize, if it is to survive and continue the conservative political tradition in the country. The main program of the Country Party is developed around a mixed economy, in which the government holds the majority of the shares at the utilities but keeps a laissez faire policy towards the other sectors of the economy. It also supports free education and free essential healthcare, but it doesn't support the open doors policy of the UPP, nor the progressive tax promoted by them.
"We hope that now, when we have cleansed our party from those elements that presented themselves as CP-like and conservative but started to actually be rude to the people of Camden, we can evolve to a modern ideological conservatism. We have to defend the current economical system but still, we have to make the social system more inclusive for the people of Camden," declared the chairman of the CP, the Honorable John Ross, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Camden.
The Camdenite Nationalist Movement anxious to enter the parliament
The Camdenite Nationalist Movement was created by the old traditionalists from the Country Party that left the party when Evan Blackburn was sacked from the office of party chairman. In the last three weeks, the National Tribunal of Camp Hill decided to grant the old faction the status of political party, thus the CNM became the newest party in Camdenite politics.
The policies of the CNM are largely based on the policies of the Country Party. Even if by its name, some sort of xenophobia would be expected, nothing of this sort has been seen coming from its members, yet. The CNM's support for the state owned utilities while the rest of the economy being based on private enterprise, the support for free education and limited healthcare and of the flat tax makes the CNM have the same political program as the County Party. The main difference between the two parties comes from the visa policies and the citizenship grants. While the Country Party has shown that they support the status quo on those subjects, the CNM have declared that they want some more restrictions on the visa system, while on the citizenship grants, they declared that Camdenite citizenship should be granted only to third generation immigrants.
It thus shows that a vote for the CNM against the CP, or vice-versa is not an ideological vote, but more likely a vote based on personal sympathies regarding the members of each party. The supporters of Blackburn and Eaton will surely vote for the CNM, while a supporter of Ross and Yankinao, would surely vote for the Country Party.
The Chairman of the CNM, Evan Blackburn has been generally reserved in his declarations, while his right wing, Jon Eaton has been vociferous against the current leadership of the Country Party and of the United People's Party, especially against the Lady Protector, Deanna Bowman. Jon Eaton is currently the subject of a police investigation regarding an assault against Andrew Lewis Bowman, during a parliamentarian session.
Other Parties
Freedom Party and the Democratic Liberal Party have decided again to unite and create the Free Democratic Union. This move has been done by the liberals at each election in the last 20 years. The liberal leaders hope that they can keep their position in the parliament.
The Vittish Unionist Movement's application for the election has been denied by the National Tribunal of Camp Hill, as they didn't managed to gather enough signatures on their applications. The continuous decrease of the members and supporters of the party, the all time low they got at the last elections and with the current grim news, the VUM may be soon disbanded.
