Varden Sea/Long Sea Protection and Trade Pact [ATTN:Andaluz, Pelasgia, Ashkelon, etc]

The DIRECTORY jointly states within this document the public interest of the Peoples of Mendiak and the Assembly. In representing Mendiak, the DIRECTORY approaches your gracious peoples and majesties with the following proposal. That in the interest of the common good, cultural values, and shared heritages, ideals, and beliefs, we formally enter a treaty of friendship and amicable relations. Our peoples and our ethics align to a great extent, we must defend our own sovereignty from ideologies that would seek the destruction of old institutions or freedoms.

This treaty would be open to change or suggestion by any other people or majesty for the purposes of maintaining common interest among our peoples. It is an outline of what the Peoples and DIRECTORY of Mendiak hope to achieve.

This TREATY outlines the following:

- That joint shipping among these signatories shall be free from impediment from each other signatory unless for the purposes of law enforcement, security, or customs enforcement.
- That all signatories of this pact shall agree to retain no sovereignty over the Varden Strait and Long Sea aside from commercial coastal areas used for the purposes of fishing or drilling.
- That in the event of a belligerent nations or entities attempting to claim sovereignty over the Varden Strait or Long Sea, all signatories will jointly defend the strait.
- That in the event of a belligerent nations or entities unlawfully occupying territory, vessels, shipping lanes, or unlawfully arresting ships or persons of the signatories, that all signatories will come to their aid and defense.
- That each nation shall jointly patrol the Varden Strait and Long Sea with military vessels in the interest of mutual defense.

If you feel this treaty is sufficient or you are interested in helping to compose a different plan, we by all means are interested in organizing a meeting for this auspicious occasion.

While we welcome the initiative of the Republic of Mendiak, it is the position of the Imperial Government that all countries interested in such a compromise should come together to draft a treaty from scratch, rather than accepting or altering one which has been dictated by a single sovereign state; the document which this Empire has been invited to accept as binding serves perfectly well as an outline of the aforementioned Republic's position on the issue, but fails to be anything more. With that in min, and with our mutual interest of security in the Long Sea and its nearby regions at heart, we would like to bring the fact that a treaty of nations wishing to trade freely among themselves and to defend each other in case of external aggression already exists in the form of the Trier Concord. We would invite the Republic of Mendiak, as well as any other nation in the region to meet with representatives of its current signatory states and to become a member of said coalition.

REPLY FROM THE DIRECTORY

The Directorate was woefully unaware of this Concord and is deeply interested in an already established pact - this document holds no weight, but from the sounds of it, the Trier Concord does. Our goal will be to press for membership in this case to the Trier Concord.

Grand Duchy of Nichtstein

The Grand Duchy of Nichtstein hereby makes the regular disclaimer on the Grand Ducal Sovereignty over areas of the Retalian Sea considered as Archipelagic Waters by the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein, broadly encompassing all waters between the Retalian Islands within the sovereign domain of the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein.

While names for this body of water may differ from language to nation, the Grand Duchy hereby reiterates that such waters are considered national and territorial, with all rights of sovereignty associated therein.

This stated, the Grand Duchy makes the second obligatory disclaimer that the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein fully respects and protects the right of free and peaceful passage of all nations through the waters within the domain of the Grand Duchy as long as such a right is clearly used in good faith and will, and is not abused or diverted for means of aggression against the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein or the Kingdom of Eiffelland.

To whom it may concern,


We are in understanding that this piece of legislature proposed by The Directory of Mendiak is written with the right goals and mindset, we here are more interested in the Trier Concord. While we have many friends within the Concord, we ourselves are not a part of this, and we humbly request to meet with representatives and become a member of the Coalition. With tensions in the region finally dying down, we wish to be fully protected in the case of another series of events occur similar to those occur again.
