-The Shah met today with the Defense Council to discuss the continued instability in Himyar. The Shah's spokesmen, Dr. Samal Ihab, SPC, stated that the meeting was productive and that the Council was confident of the United Emirates continued security. He also noted that the continued presence of Carentanian forces in Jurzan was of special concern, saying: "The contagion of revolutionary communism must be stopped before it can advance further in the region. As such, the presence of Carentan revolutionary forces in Jurzan, ipso facto, represents a threat to the stability of the region." Dr. Ihab also called on all foreign participants in the Jurzani conflict to withdrawal there forces to within there own borders and for a return to the the status quo ante bellum.

-The Emirate of Asur is celebrating the 30th year of rule of His Majesty Emir Saleh the First. The celebrations will last all week and will include a military parade on Saturday. Shah Karim III sent his congratulations to Emir Saleh I who is often seen as one of the closest political allies of the current Shah.

-A bank robbery occured in the Royal Bank in downtown Asion City today. The two robbers were arrested later that day.

-The Finance Committee of the House of Delegates meet today to begin discussing the Shah's budget. The Shah is overwhelmingly supported in the House of Delegates and the budget is expected to pass with little opposition.

-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added the Republic of Jurzan (formerly Akhaltsikhe) to the official list of "States of Concern." The reason for the listing was the continued instability and the presence of the armed forces of the Left Wing/Revolutionary State of Carentania. The issue of recognition of the new government of Jurzan remains controversial and is currently being discussed in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Elders.

-The Shah sent a personal message of condolence to the Government of Ascalon yesterday after the recent death of Prime Minister Mangano.

-Elements of the 2nd Division of the Peshmarga began exercises in Eastern Cakistan today, near the City of Ursontona. The Eastern exercise area was chosen to ensure the regularly scheduled exercises would not increase the tensions along the UEC's western borders.

-Delegate Amir Talibani spoke against the Shah's budget today in the Finance Committee of the House of Delegates. He stated that the budget provides insufficient resources to provide for the welfare of the people of Cakistan. Mr. Talibani is a member of the People's Party, a minority party which holds only 12 seats in the House. The budget is supported by both the majority Nationalist Party and the Islamic Alliance and is expected to pass with little trouble.

Voice of Cakistan: Budget Passes

-The Shah's budget was passed by the House of Delegates by a vote of 98-27 today. While the nays where higher than expected by many political observers, the vote confirms the high support for the Shah among the members of the Delegates. The budget had been approved by the Finance Committee by a vote of 11-2 Monday. The budget will now be considered by the House of Elders, where it may face oppositions from the Elders appointed by the individual Emirs.

-Rumors swirled around the Ministry of External Affairs today that the Byzantine Empire, long ensconced in self-imposed isolation is opening up once again to the outside world. The Empire, which is a southern neighbor of the United Emirates, has been shut off from the rest of the world for over 350 years. No immediate reaction was given by Ministry spokesmen during today's press briefing who said only that they "were investigating the situation in our mysterious and powerful southern neighbor." More details will hopefully be available soon.

-A series of low intensity skirmishes have been reported along the border of the Divine Republic of Ascalon and the Umbazi Republic. Sources inside the Ministry of Intelligence suggest that the conflicts are related to rampant smuggling along the border. Several violation of Umbazi sovereignty by the military forces of Ascalon have been reported and increased Umbazi military activity is expected. This news adds another flash point to Himyar, a region already seen by many observers as a smoldering powder keg waiting for the most inconvenient moment to explode.

-Peshmarga exercises near Ursontona concluded today. Major General Said Pasha stated that the exercises were a "complete success."

-Representatives of Shah Karim III signed the Southern European Economic and Defense Treaty (SEEDT) today. The SEEDT creates a new bloc in Himyar consisting of the United Emirates, Fulanistan, Jurzan, and Ascalon. Many political observers were shocked by the signing of the treaty due to the shaky relations between Cakistan and Jurzan especially. The Shah's official spokesman Dr. Samal Ihab, SPC stated that the treaty "represented the best way to ensure that the new Jurzan state does not fall permanently into the orbit of Carentania and the other Left Wing Revolutionary States."

Dr. Ihab also stated that the alliance was not meant as an explicit threat against the Talemantros Empire. Dr. Ihab elaborated "The current conflict in Jurzan predates the signing of this treaty, and the government of the United Emirates does not see entering into the conflict except in a post-conflict peace-keeping role."

The new alliance is expected to bring several benefits to Cakistan including increased trade with neighbors and increased economic vitality.

We are deeply concerned for this open admittance of anti-communist motivations behind the SEEDT and do hope that such motivations hold in no way true for the Jurzan.

We are not declaring war on Communism. SEEDT is set up for the simple and noble purpose of creating a peaceful Himyar. Ideally all of Himyar would join the alliance, but we are full aware that Carentania considers itself a Communist State before a Himyari State. We ask Carentania to remember that Cakistan is merely speaking for itself and has it's own goals. If it sees the SEEDT as a cause to fight Communism, then that is how it sees it. Cakistan is free to make it's own agendas.

We deduce from the Cakistani state news that SEEDTO is an alliance with the clearly stated aim of overthrowing the balance of power in Himyar.

The Sultanate is deeply disturbed by this mission the fledgling organization has set for itself, and warns its members that aggressive posturing will only destabilize the equilibrium in this great continent, which was so resolutely defended by the Jurzanis and their allies against Talemantine aggression only very recently. SEEDTO's goals do not match the interests of Himyar.

-Water shortages were reported today in the Emirate of Minana. The Department of Public Works for the Minanai Emirate stated that the problems were temporary and would be quickly rectified. At least 15,000 people were effected beginning late Sunday evening.

-Tensions continue to rise between the Umbazi Republic and the Republic of Ascalon. After the recent reported death of three Umbazi citizens in Ascaloni hands, the Umbazi have ordered the closing of the border between the two states. The Umbazi Government has also increased military presences along the border region by at least 37,000 troops.

-The ratification of the SEED Treaty hit a snag in the House of Elders today when it was spoken against by His Excellency Mirza Anass Ziyad, HoE. His Exe. Ziyad was appointed to the House of Elders by Emir Sakhir of the Ursontona Emirate. His Exe. Ziyad is often seen as a principal leader among those members of the House of Elders appointed by the Muslim Emirs. He stated that an alliance which included a nation fundamentally dedicated to Christian Imperialism was folly and unsustainable.

At this point His Exe. Ziyad was interrupted by His Excellency Father John Daniels, HoE, one of the five Senior Christian clerics in the House of Elders and the only Catholic member of the body. His Exe. Daniels called for His Exe. Ziyad to be called to order and named for his insults to "Christiandom and our new ally Ascalon." The President of the House declined to call His Exe. Ziyad to order but reminded all members to remain civil during debate. Noting the late hour might be causing tempers to flair the President of the House recessed the body until tomorrow, when he hoped cooler heads would prevail.

Asked about the tensions at his press briefing the Shah's official spokesman Dr. Samal Ihab, SPC stated that the Shah remained committed to the treaty structure and was confident that it would pass the House of Elders.

The House of Elders is the Senior House of the legislature of United Emirates and its members are mostly appointed. The Shah appoints 15 members and each Emir appoints 5. In practice this mean the Shah appoints 20 members as he can also make appointments as Emir of Estis. Also represented are 15 senior Islamic Clerics and 5 Christian Clerics, who are elected by all registered clerics of their faith in the Emirates. Lastly, the 7 members of the High Court of Law also serve as members of the House of Elders. Generally those members of the House of Elders who hold membership due to being Clerics or by sitting on the High Court of Law do not vote on political issues.

The SEEDTO has no such mission and does not understand how the Sultanate could have deduced such. Cakistan has always treasured its relations with the Sultanate. SEEDTO seeks confrontation with no other power, but only the stability and prosperity of the region. The Ministry urges the Sultanate to engage in further dialog with SEEDTO in order to ease whatever fears the Sultanate may have.

Cakistan Walks Out of Conference - Belmont Punishes Jurzan

Taze Jiyan, UEC- In a shocking development the Foreign Minister His Excellency Minister Orhan Abd Nasir, HoE walked out of the SEEDTO-Belmont Conference today. Minister Nasir walked out over what he called "the shocking and outrageous attacks by the Foreign Minister of Belmont."

Minister Villevan of Belmont suggested that the SEEDTO alliance was destabilizing the Himyari region and was supporting Republic of Ascalon in its confrontation against the Umbazi Republic. In fact, all four other members of SEEDTO have publicly backed international reconciliation efforts and have urged Ascalon to cooperate with investigations. How such information could have been missed by Minister Villevan is unknown.

Dr. Edwin Said of the Cakistani Institute of Strategic Studies suggested that Belmont's imperious manner clearly indicated its neo-colonial intentions. Said Dr. Said, "I think it is quite possible that Minister Villevan did not even care about the issue between Ascalon and Umbazi. If he did the natural course of action would have been to support the rest of the alliance in their efforts to deescalate the situation. Instead he choose to attack the organization as a whole and make demands. This was clearly a power play to show the members of SEEDTO who was in charge." Dr. Said also suggested that the Kingdom of Belmont's later actions only reinforced the neo-imperialist narrative. "The Foreign Minister of Cakistan walks out the conference, and what does Belmont due but withdraw aide from war torn Jurzan. Have to show those damn Himyari there place somehow I suppose. Its the classic neo-imperial drive to discipline and punish those who stand up to them."

Upon arriving back in Cakistan Minister Nasir stated to assembled news media that, "the Shah's government remains fully committed to SEEDTO and to a peaceful stable Himyar." Minister of External Affairs spokesmen also stated that plans were already being made for another SEEDTO conference without foreign participation, likely to be held in the Kugelan Free State.

MoEA Approves Emergency Loan for Jurzan

Taze Jiyan, UEC- The Ministry of External Affairs has approved an emergency $40 million aid grant to the Republic of Jurzan. This action was taken because of recent new reports of the Jurzani Government having to shut down some services because of lack of funds, as well as the recent decision by Belmont to shut off pledged funds to Jurzan. $40 million is the most the Ministry of External Affairs can pledge on an Emergency basis without approval from the Parliament. The Ministry suggested that a $500 million aide package would be submitted to Parliament within the next few days after consultation with Jurzan about their precise needs.

Accusing the Kingdom of harboring neo-imperialistic ideology is most offensive. Furthermore, the offense taken to Foreign Minister Villevan's statement is grossly exaggerated and claims made by the real Himyari powers seem to have substance in them.

While we disagree with the statement that Belmont is engaging in Neo-Imperialism, we feel that Belmont should have taken a more positive role in our internal issues, as it now seems that Belmont is meddling for the benefit of Belmont and her allies.

We regard the Cakistani walkout as a sign of diplomatic immaturity and the continuing difficulties of SEEDTO members to engage meaningfully with Himyar and the international community in general. Not in the least does the Sultanate share the Cakistanis' opinion that this is a case of neo-colonialism, a claim that can only be regarded as ludicrous.

First All SEEDTO Conference Opens
Pretoria, Kugelan Free State- The first conference including only members of the Southern European Economic and Defense Treaty Organization has begun in Pretoria. Experts at the Ministry of External Affairs are confident the Conference will yield more positive results than the last conference in Belmont.

Islamic Parties Engage in Street Protest
Cakuk, UEC- Thousands flooded the streets of Cakuk as members of the Islamic Alliance protested in favor of increased Islamic law in the Emirate. Specifically the protesters called for the banning of alcohol and other indecent items in the Emirate. Currently alcohol is illegal in three of the thirteen Emirates of Cakistan. No comment was forthcoming from the Emir of Cakuk.

Man Starts New Pro-Literacy Charity
Taze Jiyan, UEC- A local citizen, distressed by the continued high illiteracy rate in Cakistan has created a new charity called Reading For Our Future. The charity will supply books and other material to schools in rural Cakistan where the literacy rate is lowest. The Shah's Endowment for the Nation has promised to donate $100,000.

Jurzan Aid Bill Stalled in House of Delegates
Taze Jiyan, UEC- A bill sponsored by Minister Nasir, HoE to grant at least $500 million in aid to the Republic of Jurzan was referred to the House of Delegates Committee on International Cooperation today effectively killing the bill for the foreseeable future. The Committee on International Cooperation is a mainly ceremonial committee which has not conducted a formal meeting in the last six years. Generally members are appointed to the committee before they go on international junkets as a way of showing government support of their mission. Referring bills to the committee is a common parliamentary tactic to stall or kill a bill that is seen by the House of Delegates Leadership as both undesirable but which they do not want to formally vote against.

While the leadership of the House of Delegates did not state a reason for the referral, Dr. Edwin Said of the Cakistani Institute of Strategic Studies suggested the action was likely in response to perceived Jurzani intransigence regarding SEEDTO cooperation and their lack of response to previous aid given on an emergency basis by the Cakistani Ministry of External Affairs.

Delegates Meet in Talemaniki
Talemaniki, Talemantros- Delegates from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of External Affairs began meeting with counterparts from the Talemantine Empire today. Informed observers suggested that the agenda for the meeting would include closer trade relations and securing another route for Cakistani trade good to reach the rest of the world.

Leaders of Islamic Group Detained
Cakuk, UEC- Members of the Cakuk Police Department detained Islamic leaders behind a recent street protest in the city of Cakuk. A spokesman of the CPD stated that the protest was illegal as no permit had been applied for or granted by the Emir of Cakuk. 10 leaders of the Islamic Alliance in the Emirate were detained, and all were released later that day. One was issued a formal citation for planning/leading an illegal assembly. The CPD stated that no further action was planned as the protest remained non-violent and was not considered subversive by authorities.

The Cakistani policy towards the Jurzani Aid Bill clearly exposes the hipocrisy of the bourgeoise state. Nothing is given for free and strings are attached to every coin handed out. Bourgeoise states do not extend a helping hand without trying to steer their supposed 'friends' with it.
The continued suffering of the Jurzani population seems of no importance to Cakistan, which seems to look at humanitarian aid as a form of trade.

The Minister of External Affairs as well as the government of First Minister al-Din remains fully committed to the passage of the Jurzani Aid Bill. Unfortunately in a system of government with democratic checks and balances situations like this occasionally happen. Please be assured that First Minister al-Din is working with his counter-parts in the House of Delegates to resolve this situation and allow the aid process to Jurzan to continue on track.

Belmont in Diplomatic Row with Much Of Europe
Taze Jiyan, UEC- The arrogance of the Kingdom of Belmont continues to amaze observers in the United Emirates of Cakistan. After the disastrous initial joint SEEDTO-Belmont conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belmont has gone on a seemingly world wide tour of unproved attacks and arrogant pronouncements. These diplomatic rows included the recent split between Belmont and the EDF, Belmont intruding in a purely Himyarian dispute of the Mare di Duo, and the Kingdom of Belmont's recent "official insistence" that the Papal States change their policy towards Tiburia.

International response to Belmont's recent haughty and arrogant foreign pronouncements has been almost universally negative. The Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Aquitania call it "a sad day." The Wieserreichische Welle declared the row with neighbors and former allies of Belmont "harmful." Le Journal de l'Aigle editorialized: "a new diplomatic row that has risen concerning Belmont's confusing and sometime irrational foreign policy." The Holy See though no doubt gravely affronted by Belmont's imperious demands, remained aloof as befits a state that also functions as the leader of one of Europe's great religions. For that restraint we at the Voice of Cakistan can only applaud the Holy See.

Some positive reaction has been forth coming from the League of Free States but Dr. Edwin Said, of the Cakistani Institute of Strategic Studies, suggested that such praise may have more to do with trying to destabilize the EDF than any real support of Belmont by the LFS. "The hostility betweeen the EDF and the LFS is legendary, and in that sense it makes sense for LFS states to embrace Belmont's recent diplomatic action. All that said, I doubt very much we will see the League rush to embrace such a unpredictable nation."

These recent turn of events seem to entirely justify the United Emirates own Minister of External Affairs, His Excellency Minister Orhan Abd Nasir, who led the SEEDTO walkout of the joint Belmont-SEEDTO conference. It seems that incident was just the beginning of a new Belmontian foreign policy, one which is brash, unstable, and almost certainly dangerous.

Trade deal to be announced with Talemantros?
Talemaniki, Talemantros- Rumors are swirling around the ongoing economic conference between Talemantros and the United Emirates. A Senior Official from the Cakistani delegation informed the Voice of Cakistan that a free trade agreement and more would likely be announced in the next few days.

Despite Jurzan's exit, Minister Nasir sees SEEDTO conference as successful
Taze Jiyan, UEC- Minister of External Affairs Nasir said he viewed the recently closed SEEDTO conference in the Kugelan Free State as a success. He said the participants had a frank discussion and have laid long range plans for a strong alliance. As for the departure of Jurzan, Minister Nasir said that it was likely "inevitable," due to strong foreign pressure on Jurzan. Nasir further stated that such influence likely did not have Himyar or Jurzan's best interest at heart.

Shah announces the Shah's Charity for a New Himyar
Taze Jiyan, UEC- Dr. Samal Ihab, spokesman for the Royal Palace, stated that the Shah was donating $200 million to create the Shah's Charity for a New Himyar. The charity would engage in humanitarian projects throughout the region. Informed observers speculate that the Republic of Jurzan will be an early target for projects, the Umbazi nation was also mentioned as a possible destination.
